  1. Hey folks, I was able to snap a cheap 2080 and have been enjoying it for a few months now (used to have a gtx 1080), but now I'm wondering whether my ryzen 7 1700x is holding it back. My fps is lower in newer titles but I'm at relatively low gpu utilization. Any thoughts? Would a cpu upgrade solve my issue?
  2. I can't take credit. I stumbled upon this "ability" from "The Tech Tank" on Youtube (he is/was part of UFD Tech) when MSI sent him a MEG X570 Unify, but only had a 1st gen Ryzen CPU. Well, it works on with a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master too. I flashed to oldest available BIOS on Gigabyte's website. Anyone else tried?
  3. Hello everyone! I come to you in a time of great desperation. I am looking to upgrade my stationary for gaming performance, but i've hit a bit of an impasse. My current build is a rather basic MSI B350 motherboard (MS-7A34) with an AMD Ryzen 1700x processor, and a Gigabyte GTX 1070 4GB (Windforce). Also 16GBs of . This holds up alright, but i would like an upgrade for gaming purposes. Many recent games are able to push both my CPU and GPU quite hard, but between VR, a new QHD 144Hz monitor, and a desire to play with ray tracing, the 1070 is my biggest issue. With the current GPU prices and three years left of studying (and 2023 without my machine), i'd like an upgrade that lasts those remaining years, and i would like it before summer. I have an opportunity to buy a 3080 (10GB) for 1070 USD, or a 3070 for about 950 USD. This is about 118% of original price for both cards (Prices in Norway). This beats all retail prices i can find, and i'd love to upgrade to it. However, this leaves little budget for other upgrades, and i suspect the Ryzen 1700x would be bottlenecking a 3080 quite a bit. With a B350 motherboard, i could technically get a Ryzen 3800x without replacing other parts, and it's gotten quite affordable, but then my motherboard would probably bottleneck it... Short rant: I have heard that GPU prices were supposed to drop around these times, but i've seen little indication of this here so far. I also fear that next gen cards will see a price hike to match demand and growing consumer numbness to the mad prices). it would also be bottlenecked far more in my system anyways, and further upgrades will likely wait until 2024 for me. At some point i'll have to bite the bullet and just purchase a damn card, because i was planning to upgrade to the RTX30-series since it was announced, and the wait is getting ridiculous. My patience has worn plenty thin at this point, and i'd like the upgrade for summertime gaming :D. Full name of the card: RTX 3080 10GB PNY XLR8 Gaming REVEL EPIC-X TF Lhr I haven't heard of this producer before, but some quick searches seem to verify it being alright. TL;DR: I really want a new GPU before summer. Next gen doesn't seem relevant for me right now. I want it to remain somewhat competitive for about three years. i can buy a 3080 for 1070 USD (In Norway). This will likely be botlenecked by my Ryzen 1700x CPU. Any opinions on the value of this deal? Thanks for reading this essay on my life story and frustrations. Any reccomendations for upgrades is greatly appreaciated!
  4. Hey brains trust, first time poster here with a bit of a newbie question. I have a mid-range gaming/workstation pc I built a few years back after ryzen was released, nothing too fancy, just a Ryzen 7 1700x, GTX 1070 and 16gb of corsair lpx ddr4 3000mhz ram. Something for some medium to heavy level of gaming and some casual vfx rendering. I only just realised that after noticing a lack of speed and some lag in games that the ram i have installed is capped at the 2133mhz default, despite being 3000mhz speed. I've updated my bios, and played around with my d.o.c.p settings and have an option for it to run at 2993mhz, which is close enough, but once i make that change and restart, i get a lovely little bsod after about 5 minutes. I remember that there was some issue with memory post-launch for ryzen chips and their mobos, but i believe they've all been fixed with bios updates. could i be having an issue with the power? I'm super keen to get any info or pointers as to where i might be going wrong. full parts list: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Endykits/saved/g4YbvK attached pic of cpuz for reference. Cheers, Liam
  5. Price drops to 349.99 IN STORE ONLY Not sure if this is Temporary or Permanent. http://www.microcenter.com/product/476004/Ryzen_7_1700X_34_GHz_8_Core_AM4_Boxed_Processor
  6. Well, here it is. I spent WAY too much money on it, and still had to settle (was wanting the 1800X, but I doubt it would make much of a difference. Also, I know, my cable management isn't that good. Unless someone wants to come to Indiana and help me fix it, I don't want to hear it, lol. Oh, I'm technically not REALLY done, because I had an air cooler, and I'm about to install a CoolerMaster MasterLiquid Pro 240, but aside from that...I finally got it done! What do you all think? Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen R7 1700X GPU: Asus Strix GTX 1080 Mobo: ASRock AB350 Pro 4 RAM: 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 SSD: 500GB Samsung 850 Evo Pro HDDs: 2X 4TB Seagate HDD's in RAID 0 PSU: Corsair RM850x Case: Enermax Ostrog ADV Blue
  7. One more Ryzen leak (more realistic than the last one IMO) starring: Ryzen 1700X also note that there is no turbo enabled on these tests source
  8. I want to buy DDR4 for my new Ryzen rig. But as far as I know, there are some issues with memory frequencies. As you can see on the attached screenshot, maximum speed can be achieved using Single Rank Memory in dual channel mode (only in 2 dimms). Maybe someone has 3200Mhz speed on Ryzen platform already? I have AsRock AB350 Pro4 mobo + Ryzen 1700. So, it would be great if someone suggest fastest DDR4 kit for my combo.
  9. Hey guys, I'm building a gaming/workstation PC, will it be right to pair 2 1080 ti's with ryzen 7 1700x and also would 850 watts power supply would be enough or should I get 1000 watts. Will all 4x8 GB dimms over clock to 2933 MHz.
  10. Hey all, So I can overclock my 1700 to 3.8 easily but when I try to bump the RAM speed up from the stock speed of 2133Mhz it won't post. If I set my RAM to 2933Mhz it won't post unless the CPU multiplier is set to auto. So basically I have to choose between stock CPU speeds or stock RAM speeds. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or have any ideas? If I just have to wait for a BIOS update to get both which would you choose? I personally think faster RAM speed is more important because AMD's infinity fabric runs at half the speed of RAM if I'm not mistaken. Any input is appreciated! Specs Ryzen 1700 Asus Prime x370 Pro Running the newest BIOS on the website G-Skill Aegis 3000Mhz PSU XFX 1050 Pro 80+ Gold
  11. Price to performance is very good imo, the slightly lower gaming performance is worth it imo for more productivity. (as I also heavily take use of multithreading) What are your thoughts on the launch? It was overhyped, but not as bad as some people hoped
  12. I found a strange thing happening with ryzen cpu. I overclocked it to 4.00GHZ and then i ran my tests and put the pc to sleep. After that i started the computer and i was still running at 4.00GHZ but when i started a benchmark i started running at 4.20GHZ can someone with ryzen try that and say if it is just mine. If someone other gets this "problem" please tell me AN if everybody gets it someone has to tell linus or luke Because it is stable really stable and if i know good it is not normal to run at 4.2 Please try it and say if it works for you Thanks for the spared time
  13. Hi everyone! My Ryzen Build is almost finished (still waiting on the matx motherboard to go on stock)I have a question. I was planning on splitting my current memory kit from my main rig (4x8GB g-skill ripjaws V 3200mhz) to my ryzen build so they'll be 16GB each at 3200mhz. I'm a bit worried about stability so I was wondering if there is a specific kit that works better for ryzen. if there is can you guys tell me so I can order now. I'm looking for a 16gb kit (2 sticks) if possible at 3200mhz too (can be slower if recommended) TIA
  14. I was checking partpicker.com and putting togethert a PC, but it seems like the cooling device I chose to use is not going to work because of that being incompatible with the 1700X. I checked Corsair's website and it says it is compatible with AM4 Socket and that just confused me more. Also I'm Planning to use the motherboard GIGABYTE GA-AX370-GAMING 5.
  15. My motherboard - gigabyte ab350 gaming 3 rev 1.0 Bios- F5 Cpu cooler - cooler masterliquid lite 120 Power supply- corsair vs 550 Ram-gskill ripjaws 5 2400mhz 16gb kit. I am getting 70-80°C itself in bios mode and 40-50°C idle temps in windows 10 under high performance power plan with xfr(auto overclocking) enabled. The cpu core voltages remain 1.2-1.43V continuously. When I changed power plan to 'balanced' idle temps are 35-50°C and core voltages are 0.8225-1.43V.My room temperatures are around 25-30 degrees. Am i the only one who'z getting such high temps or is there anyone like me too.During Prime95 torture test the cpu goes to 70-80°C within just few seconds. All the temperatures stated above by me are noted after subtracting the 20 degrees offset as declared by amd community.I Q-flashed my bios but still no change in temps.During load temps cross 70°C easily.I have applied cooler master mastergel thermal compound in right quantity yet facing the issue.Even the cpu cooler's fans also spin at maximum speeds even at idle temps.Should I RMA my chip ?someone please help me out.
  16. Processor: Motherboard: Memory: Hard Drive: Crucial M4 128GB SSD, Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD, Crucial M500 960GB, 2x2TB WD Black, 2x3TB WD Red (also few more 1 and 2 tb drives not in but used) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 ACX Monitor: ASUS VG278H 3D Monitor, HP w2207 Wide LCD Monitor, Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium HD Headphones: Sennheiser PC 363D Keyboard: K70 Rapid Fire Mouse: Logitech G700 Mouse Surface: Corsair Cloth Mat XXL Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Computer Case: CORSAIR 800D So my last PC was a 3930k with a Rampage IV Extreme Dead from a leaked AIO cooler. Now i have been waiting for ryzen to release. So i have come down to Processor: AMD R7 1700x vs 6850k Motherboard: ??? vs Asus X99-A II ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory So my biggest limiting factor is PCIe lanes or sata drives? I stream games like Battlefield 4/1 Overwatch and other games. Now with the 3930k i hit the limit of what i could stream at 1080p @ 30fps or 720p @ 60fps and still look good.(not pixels all over) I also save the recording at the same time, my 2tb drives tended to stay 60-80% full with uncut video and a 3 tb drive with done stuff on it and the other has most of my movies i got saved. The SSDs are 128GB for OS and 256GB Programs and 960GB for games. I do have a few drives i plug in and clone my stuff every few months so i do not lose a lot. So do i spend more on the 6850k and not get a GTX 1080 but for sure not hit some limit of PCIe with all my drives running or a risk a r7 1700x and get a GTX 1080 and find a limit on the pcie with my drives? As i said i have drives not in but i do use but I already looking for more space so been look at PCIe raid cards for more drives.
  17. Ok, I know this has probably been discussed to death and if you're thinking right now "Holy sh*t. Not another "What CPU" post" .... then sorry I'm sure I can't really make a bad decision with any of the choices, but here's where I am right now. So, I'm looking to retire my old editing/gaming laptop (ASUS G750JZ) with a new desktop... cos the laptop is too frikkin heavy to take anywhere The new machine will be used for both gaming, streaming and editing with CS6 Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Lightroom I used to pretty much only use the laptop for editing, but I've recently come back to gaming and streaming and I'm spending a lot more time with that at the moment. But I imagine I'll turn my head back to heavy editing again in the future, so I'm looking to build a new machine that can do both well I know editing and gaming machines are pretty close in spec, but was looking for advise in which direction to go. The system will be build around a 1080Ti and 32-64Gb memory and SSD storage (archive footage is moved externally once completed) But it's the chip that I'm a bit hung up on. From the LTT 2K buyers guide the recommendation was for an i7 6800K for the extra cores, but the i7 7700K is a bit cheaper and looks to have better gaming performance (possibly due to the faster single thread performance?). However the 6 cores "should" be better for rendering footage and is benchmarked higher in comparison tests that way. Then there's Ryzen. Thinking about the 1700x which is closer on price than the 1800x It looks to have all the cores and oomph needed for even better performance in rendering out video footage, but my concern is more around it being new tech. The perception I have is that there have been some teething problems with it, less 3rd party compatibility and some of the performance can be dulled unless you have the right spec memory. It just feels like AMD have rushed the release a bit early following the stock drop and it needs to mature a bit. So ... i7 6800, 7700 or Ryzen 1700x (or 1800x) ? I'll happily trade stability and compatibility over bleeding edge tech all day every day. Footnote: I'll be streaming sometimes too, but I don't need CPU horsepower for that. I use NGinx to an external PC to re-encode and stream from there. I sometimes NVENC from the laptop when I can't be bothered with the external PC ... and I'm alright with that
  18. My build: CPU: 1700x @ 3.9 Cooler: H100i v2 RAM: Corsair LPX @2666, x16GB Main Storage: Samsung 960 Evo 500GB M.2 NVMe Other storage: x2 PNY 1311 128GB SSD, OCz 240A SSD, Seagate 1.5TB HDD MB: MSI X370 Carbon Pro PSU: Corsair RM 750x GPU: Dual MSI RX 480 Gaming X, 8GB Ok, so I built system several weeks ago, and everything has been fine until this morning. I'm not sure if it's an OS thing or a MB thing. I can boot and load windows totally fine, but my OS only detects my boot drive which is my Samsung 960. None of my other drives are detectable. When I boot to BIOS, I can see all of my HDD/SSD's are recognized by the MB in the SATA ports, but that is about it. I've got school stuff to do, and my school stuff is on my other drives.... Any idea what to do at this point? I've ensured all drivers are installed from MSI for the MB, no results. I'm lost here. Any help would be amazing.
  19. The title says it all. I'm looking for an upgrade from my 8350, and I'm going into game development. I plan to use Unreal Engine 4, Unity, and the Cry Engine. As of now, I'm looking at a few. Mainly the 1700x or the i7-7700k. I wouldn't be opposed to paying extra for a 1800x, but much more is too expensive. I was wondering what anyone would recommend, and thanks for the help.
  20. Hello everyone, thanks for checking out my new build! No build log here just the finished article. 21. So I am about to upgrade and wondering whether I should pick up the 1700 or 1700X. It will be paired with a Gigabyte AX370 Gaming 5 and and 16 gigs of 3000 MHz (which I will OC to 3200 MHz which is the mobos limt). I plan to overclock it on air at first (Hyper 212X) then when the time comes cool it with an AIO. Someplaces I read that the 1700 is better for OC others say the opposite, I've yet to find consensus on the topic which led me here. There is about a 10% price difference between them where I live (not that much honestly) so the 1700X would be worth the extra for me if it turns out to be a bit better overclocker (I know i have to win the silicon lottery too :/) Thanks for the responses!
  22. Hello, I'm planning to buy a Ryzen 7 PC. I'm not going to overclock my CPU. And I don't play games. I'm a content creator. Currently, all the options I've got is like this... Ryzen 7 1700X Deepcool GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler (Official) (Newegg) (Amazon) Ryzen 7 1700 Stock cooler I'll use a Gigabyte B350 Motherboard with any of these choices with Corsair 16GB 3200 RAM. In my local retailer shop, that Deepcool cooler is the only available cooler that is compatible with AM4. So I don't have much of a choice. And I don't really want to go for liquid cooling because it is high in cost. So my question is, does Ryzen 1700X with air cooler perform less than Ryzen 1700 with stock cooler? Or does the lower 1700 outperform the 1700X in this situation?
  23. Okay short description. I updated my BIOS Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. AB350-Gaming 3-CF (AM4) from Version F3 to Version F6. Gigabyte Link Before I updated to BIOS Version F6 I could run my RAM at 3200 MHz but now the PC boots up ca. 5 times, after that normal start-up. I already tried to FLASH the BIOS back to my old one. Which did not help sadly. Dropped a “Open Hardware Monitor Report” for people willing to go threw it. Thank you for your attention. MyHardware.txt
  24. Hey guys! So having the Ryzen 1700x for a few weeks now I had gotten some requests to show what it was capable in terms of gaming while streaming. Did a full review that I will post on my profile, but as always won't post here for forum rules. So I tested 5 games GTA V Battlefield1 DOTA2 CSGO Overwatch Here is the settings and rig I used to conduct the tests. After testing multiple games here are the benchmarks. I got better FPS in most games in 1440p which isn't a shock as that puts more burden on the GPU and Ryzen lags behind in single core performance which allowed more CPU power to be put towards streaming. There was 0 quality loss across the board, I actually got better than 60 FPS on all games while streaming at the same time, here is sample from the review. It's legit people, you wanna game and stream Ryzen definitely performs.
  25. Most liked platform for me was AMD Dragon. I was surprised at 2010 after the launch AMD Phenom II X6. Yes, its 7 years ago, memories...Today we have new Crosshair motherboard. Sixth generation named Crosshair VI Hero. Everything what you need to know about Crosshair VI Clock generator is great info for us! Motherboard - new Crosshair It was more clear, I must have some Ryzens and this motherboard. I was in silence, first BIOSes was not ideal and BIOS chip at my board was broked. Ryzen 7 1800X is my AIO rig. But I bought also Ryzen 5 1500X and Ryzen 7 1700X. And have borrowed 1700 non X + 1600. I tested quickly only 1800X and 1700X, a little 1500X. The main benchtable PC - 1800X inside and Crosshair with Alphacool Eisbaer cooling. Type of DRAM Im using HyperX Savage, Corsair Dominators Vengeance or TridentZ from GSkill. Unfortunatelly, all kits are not B-die. My favourite BIOS for this board are 1001 and 1002. Whats inside the box? Many good stickers :), SATA cabels, ROG SLI HB bridge, coaster for drink etc., discount for sleeve PSU cables, RGB extension cable, installing DVD, paper manual and IO cover This is perfect inovation. Crosshair VI Hero has holes for AM3 and AM4 brackets :). The board has solid digital power circuit, which is including phases for CPU=vcore+SOC part. In blue is it digi controlled 2 phases for DRAMs. Remember, if you are use Ryzen, it has 16x PCIe 3.0 links for GPUs and extra 4 directly for M.2 NVMe discs. Others PCIe are 2.0 and interconected with Promontory FCH chipset. SupremeFX with latest ALC1120A codec, some Japanese cappacitors, ampfs and separated lines in PCB Nice designed pasive of PCH. The board looks like really nice, similar as Maximus IX Hero sister. M.2 port is almost bottom, its smart, because its not between SLI/CF slots for GPUs. NVMe M.2 discs are a bit hot, specially in 512GB or higher capacity Ryzen is supporting up to 64 GB DDR4 memory (A2+B2 are primary slots). Ussually you can use 3200 MHz, but at this Crosshair board its possible to get around 3600 MHz or higher for some benchmarks! But you must change BCLK and 2400/2666 MHz in BIOS Near the 24-ATX pin on the left you can see modern front USB3.1. In this area are measuring points of voltage. And post display. OC part is at the bottom. Its change against Common opinion. I think, its better to have it on upper the right corner. Reason? If I will use for extreme OC last PCIe, after I have not good access to the buttons. At photo you can see classic START, small reset, safe and retry buttons, LN2 jumper and slow mode switch. Everything what the extreme overlcockers need to be happy. The board has support for ROG OC panels. And for casemoders there are also two RGB connectors. IO part, so many USB ports, including 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 :-D I like it. But one PS2 could be here also. Function buttons are BIOS flashback and clear CMOS. Stock vs OC AIO cooled benchmarks I tested only few benchmarks. But you can see big impact in IPC for AMD. Compared it with FX-8370 in table. I did also quick stable OC for 30min in AIDA. I got 4074 MHz with Ryzen 7 1800X. Benchmarks are doable at 4100 MHz also. Crosshair IV Formula + AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE and LN2 Few days ago I was at dealers day as ROG overclocker. I wanted test my favourite platform AMD Phenom II and new Ryzen. I started with old one, with Thuban. I must say, it was really fun and I used non tweaked Windows 7 for it. Kingpins thermal paste for LN2. Its better than I thought. Isolation with old classic method and many papers. I used also OC panel for read the temperatures and PCI post card into the motherboard. Temperatures minus 186C was the max on sensor via OC Panel. Time for some results. The cores of CPU was similar, the best cores was first, third and fifth. So for some benchamrks I could use mix of 5900 and 5800 MHz :), example for Cinebenh R11.5. I was a bit disappointed from Superpi, I thought, this CPU could be 6500+ MHz chip, but it not happens... Wprime 1024M and 32M Cinebench R11 and R15 Superpi Geekbench Max clock ( I had almost 6500 Mhz, but file is corupted) That was my Thuban And Chew* has the right in this case. This sample is really great on AIR, but only good at LN2...My 1100T BE is with LN2 better extra 300 MHz. Still, it was fun and most of liters was consumed by Thuban :)¨ AMD Ryzen 7 1700X and LN2 For Ryzen, I have not much LN2. Next time I will start with Ryzen and not with oldschool platform Ryzen setup was almost the same, I changed only OC panel for OC Panel II And I started with Cinebench R11.5. I found some interesting things. The CPU scaling very well with low voltage. I dont know, if is it normal, or abnormal with Ryzens. Example -120C, 1.44V and 4800 MHz Cinebench R11.5. I was surprised with this. Of course, the best way is start with lower BCLK and 2666 MHz RAMs, specially with low temperatures at CPU/SOC part. But I tried step by step temps down and the lowest CPU/SOC voltage. Few times I got something as coldbootbug. If I was at -180 C at sensor and working in WIndows, everything was perfect. But if crashed it, I got code for CPU. If I warmed pot up to -150C, CPU was alive and booted But sometimes crashed CPU at the same temperatures around -180C and rebooted at -180C also...I dont know what exactly happens. It was my first experience with Ryzen and LN2... Step by step I jumped up to 1.488V and last one nitrogen in thermos. 4950 MHz Cinebench R11.5 passed After I was without LN2 and temps goes up...So time for Superpi. -srry without better DRAM clocks and DRAM timings - it was dry run without LN2 Ryzen was fun also, after few first experience and issues at start I was much smarter. Repetation of Ryzen in next 2-3 weeks guys! Hold my fingers! Il need it.
