  1. Hey brains trust, first time poster here with a bit of a newbie question. I have a mid-range gaming/workstation pc I built a few years back after ryzen was released, nothing too fancy, just a Ryzen 7 1700x, GTX 1070 and 16gb of corsair lpx ddr4 3000mhz ram. Something for some medium to heavy level of gaming and some casual vfx rendering. I only just realised that after noticing a lack of speed and some lag in games that the ram i have installed is capped at the 2133mhz default, despite being 3000mhz speed. I've updated my bios, and played around with my d.o.c.p settings and have an option for it to run at 2993mhz, which is close enough, but once i make that change and restart, i get a lovely little bsod after about 5 minutes. I remember that there was some issue with memory post-launch for ryzen chips and their mobos, but i believe they've all been fixed with bios updates. could i be having an issue with the power? I'm super keen to get any info or pointers as to where i might be going wrong. full parts list: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Endykits/saved/g4YbvK attached pic of cpuz for reference. Cheers, Liam
  2. Hi, Any help is greatly appreciated! I am an electronics enthusiast but I am not a pro in building PCs. I built a desktop with Ryzen 1700x, 16Gb ram, SSD+HDD, 750WEVGA PSU, x370 killer motherboard, and a used 980 Ti. A week ago, it seems like the 980Ti overheated and burned out. I got instant black screen and It smelled like burnt resistor/PCB but I didn't see any magic smoke so I was not sure if it actually was the 980ti that has failed. The computer does not boot with the graphics card installed. Ryzen 1700x has no integrated graphics but the computer boots without the GPU and I can access it with TeamViewer(basically a remote desktop). Now the problem begins: After installing new 1080 Ti hydro, the boot retries about 8 times, during the entire process I got no fan, no pump, and no post on the 1080Ti. The LED does light up and the computer boots without the installed 1080ti. I can still remote access the computer through Teamviewer. I dont see the 1080ti detected in device manager. Things I have tried and did not help: Clear CMOS Uninstall all nvidea drivers in Win10 Trying 2 PCIE slots Restarting many times, with USB devices unplugged. Things I tried and got interesting effect: Plugging and unplugging the 12v VGA power supply after the computer is booted can often trigger the pump and the fan in the graphics card to turn on. But I dont see GPU detected in device manager. Reverse engineering the 12v VGA input pins of the 1080ti, all 12v rails are internally connected. 2 GND are reserved for detection for if the power cable is connected. All trigger requirements should be met. 12.5v voltage is present whenever the other part of the system is running.(This does not mean the overcurrent protection isn't tripped, though. I dont know and have zero experiance.) WHAT SHOULD I DO ? I can not access BIOS because teamviewer runs after win10 boots. CPU PCIE controller fried? Overcurrent? Old BIOS? Broken GPU? I feel like I'm about to die. Any reply is greatly appreciated including IDK, etc.
  3. Kinda noob question. I notice that my 1700X, so far in games like Doom and Max Payne 3. I notice that ONE and only ONE of the 8 Cores and 16 Threads tend to run very high Usage, around 90 - 99%. Is this normal for this CPU? Total CPU Usage normally is only about 20 - 30%. I'm gaming on 1440p and Windows 10 if that matters. Paired with VEGA 64 Liquid and 16GB RAM @ 2133 (STOCK)
  4. HELP! I am having a very odd issue with my AMD Ryzen 7 1700x on a Gigabyte AX370-Gaming 5 motherboard. After some extensive overclocking, I suddenly had issues with getting the Gigabyte App Center CIV app to work properly. No matter how many times I wiped and re-installed the software, I couldn't get it to control the fans anymore. So I decided to re-install Windows 10 Pro to see if it would fix the problem. This didn't fix the issue, but now I'm having a far worse problem. Even though "Device Manager" shows I have all 16 threads visible and working properly, Going into "Task Manager" and selecting "Performance" shows I have literally half of my processor available. Even CPU-Z shows I have 4-cores and 8-threads. It's even showing I only have HALF of my cache! Has anyone else had this issue, or is this possibly the sign my CPU has died (praying to Bob it's not a dead CPU)?
  5. Hello, this is my first post here. I am trying to decide on either a Ryzen 5 2600 or a Ryzen 7 1700x. From my research, the 2600 has a faster core clock. Also, game favor faster core clocks over multi core performance. So, the debate boils down to, are the two extra cores worth the sacrifice of a lower clock speed? Any answers or responses would be appreciated. They are about the same price used, so, I'm not sure what I should go for.
  6. Many people talk about over clocking the 1700x to 3.9 or 4 Ghx. Is that the core clock or the boost? Also is that reasonable to expect? (I am pretty new at this) specs: 1700x 2060 super 8 gb ram ASRock b450 pro4 motherboard (I think) Also I game (mostly Fortnite), stream and record. Is that setup enough to get 144 frames?
  7. As of recent Window's 10 Patches, AMD RyZen Balanced Power Plan no longer needed nor exist with their latest Chipset Driver ( from AMD Site ). Now I'm wondering, which Power Plan should I use ?? Window's Balanced / Performance ?? I've try Googling it, but there's no solid answer. Most are old topics. Which suggested to use RyZen Balanced. Some suggested to use Performance. Problem with Performance, it will peg all your Cores to MAX speed even at Idle and never down clocks. I did try using Balanced, only played one or two games, didn't notice any weird lag and such though. I even tried Cinebench....scores is about the same as RyZen Balanced, give or take. No huge dip in scores. But I do notice when using Window's Balanced, some of my Cores doesn't run at 3500Mhz constant. It will go down to 2200Mhz then up to 3500Mhz and it's not like between few long seconds, but it's like ever 0.5, up and down up and down... Is this even " good " ?? I don't recall my Intel CPU even does this, it would least stay at a certain speed for a certain amount of time before it clocks down. Just like while I was playing KF2, some of the Cores be pegged at 3500mhz which it should, but then some of the other Cores be all over the place....constant up and down. But as I said I didn't experience any lag / FPS drops etc though. Because the thing is, back when I was using RyZen Balanced, all my Cores are at 3500mhz in game, constant no drops ever. Maybe a slight Boost on One or Two Cores up to 3700mhz for a mere second. If you do own 1st Gen RyZen do share what Power Plan you use. Did you tweak anything else ? I want to mention my CPU is at Stock obviously, I only OCed my RAM.
  8. Hello, with the generation 3 Ryzen processors coming along, I have been finding great deals on the past gen CPU's. I am building a computer primarily for gaming, with some light coding on the side. I have all of my parts except the CPU, so waiting for generation 3 doesn't seem like an option; not to mention I am on a budget. Just wanted to know if the 2700x is worth the extra bucks over the 1700x. From my browsing, they both seem like monsters for gaming, although many people say the upgrade is not worth it. Thank you
  9. I've got the Biostar A320MH PRO motherboard. Although the board features a single 4 pin CPU power connector and 3+2 vrm configuration, their website lists that it supports CPUs upto 95W! Maybe because they use low resistance ppak mosfets? Idk tell me your opinion on this. I got the a320 mainly for the price and I don't plan on overclocking this system.
  10. Hey so I just upgraded my Video Card to a 1080ti (from a Radeon R9 290) a few days ago and I was wondering if anyone here could help with something. To start off here's my PC: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/KeanMorris/saved/#view=VGnJVn I have a 2560x1080 75 hz ultrawide monitor (freesync). I have my CPU at 3.8 ghz and my ram is running at 2933 (unstable at any higher and I don't really know how to mess with RAM settings..) I first noticed this issue when playing Overwatch on low settings. In the beginning my FPS was going straight to the cap of 300 but then I noticed it kind of fluctuated and went down a bit (going down to like 250, sometimes lower; including a couple times it went down to 180 for a little bit). I thought this was weird so I started watching the usage in HWMonitor only to find that my GPU's utilization was starting out at 99 percent and then going down to roughly 50-60 and then constantly changing to values in-between. The utilization also seem to go down if I started recording with OBS, which doesn't make much sense to me as even when I'm playing OW and recording my CPU usage is still only at like 40 percent. Then I set my graphics set all the way up to epic and it seems to run fine; it doesn't hit 300 FPS but the utilization seems to stay at 99 and I get around 250 FPS. However NOW I have (or I just noticed that I have) quite a bit of screen tearing that I can't seem to fix no matter what I do, and while it isn't unplayable, it is certainly annoying.... But back to the GPU utilization, the same exact thing seems to happen when I play Doom. GPU utilization stays around 50-60 percent all the time. Ill put a clip that I recorded at the end showing this. Some other games seem to be fine from what little bit I've played; Witcher 3 and Just Cause 3 on ultra run pretty similarly at around 90-120 FPS, and the GPU utilization stays at 97 percent. Googling around I've read some posts and things from people who have a similar problem but I never really saw a definitive solution... Anyway sorry for the gigantic novel of a post but I figured its best to provide as much info as possible. Also thanks in advance to anyone who helps, and here's the Doom video:

  12. Hey guys this is driving me up the wall. This is my build below. My build keeps for no reason or warning just black screening and restarting, or blue screening with a Memory error. Can happen at any time. I've tried to find some common denominator to what triggers but nothing stands out. I've fresh installed Windows 10 . Reseated the RAM and Video card and the same for the Processor. I've run it with just one RAM stick and its still keeps happening. I've tried monitoring stats using HWMonitor to see if there's any overheating but the CPU idles at 35°C under load (Video and Photo Editing and the odd Game) it has never gone over 60°C. Same for the Video Card. Everything else seems fine with wattage distribution and voltages etc. Any assistance or recommendations of what to do next would be greatly appreciated. Oh BIOS and drivers are all up to date. I even have taken my RAM back to the store and they ran a few Mem tests on it and said the RAM is fine, and should definitely be compatible with my board. Build Specs: CPU : AMD - Ryzen 7 1700X 3.4GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: NZXT - Kraken X62 Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard: Asus - PRIME X370-PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory : Corsair - Vengeance RGB 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 760 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card Case: Phanteks - Enthoo Evolv ATX Glass ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Hey, This is my first time trying to overclock anything so any input would be appreciated Basically I'm overclocking my Ryzen 7 1700x, and I've gotten it seemingly stable at 3.9ghz. I only say seemingly because I have yet to run a test on it for a long time; I've basically done many Cinebench runs and I ran Aida64 for a little less than an hour. I was thinking of downloading OCCT and doing a longer test, unless if you guys have a better idea or a different program recommendation. When I run Cinebench the voltage goes up to 1.395 and switches to 1.38-something at times. Running Aida64 the voltage is a little lower; staying mainly at 1.373 and sometimes hitting 1.38. I tried setting my CPU to 3.925ghz and it crashed right away when I ran Cinebench. This has probably been asked on here many times but I guess my main question is should I even bother trying to get a faster clockspeed if I have to go to 1.4+ volts? I've seen a few different answers regarding the max safe voltage on a Ryzen lol. Thanks!
  14. I want to start my second personal build and would like as many opinions as I can get on whether I should buy into AMD with a 1700X or stick with Intel with an 8700K? Please vote using my StrawPoll link. http://www.strawpoll.me/14119535
  15. Hey there, so I'm building a new PC this month and im cracking my head over the question of which CPU would suit me best. I mostly do gaming on my 4k monitor while i watch videos or something on another monitor, idk if this counts as multitasking yet, but with my current xeon i get stuttering etc. I also use Ableton a lot, but in that im already happy with my xeon performance, no worries here. I know the 8700k is "out", but according to some articles i read online today, it seems almost impossible to get one until early 2018. Also the CPU has a whole 360mm rad custom loop on its own, so thermals aren't much of a problem. I'm not afraid of overclocking either, which is why i chose the 1700x over the 1800x. Furthermore, ram compatibility seems to be horrible with ryzen/AM4 motherboards, as far as i could tell from my google research, although i have to admit that many of those posts were from a few months back, maybe BIOS updates fixed these problems. (I would like some RGB Ram like the Trident Z, much RBG, that's why i care about compatibility) Basically, this is my story and I'm ripping my hair out bc i can't decide on a CPU. It's very hard to find benchmarks for these kind of multitasking situations.
  16. Nice and simple. I don't know a whole lot about OC'ing, or much in general, But it just seems like my 1700X likes being a pain in the ass. It started off at 3.8Ghz @ 1.35v, Then after a reinstall of windows, That clock seems to just be very unstable. Not sure what's up with that, but whatever, I took it down to 3.6Ghz. And well, under heavy load, for example C15 benchmark, where it hits 100% load, the temp hits about 75C, and the screen will freeze for a few seconds, then come back, almost as if all motion has stopped and then skipped to where it would have been, had it never stopped in the first place. I'm not sure if this is a problem with my computer in general, or my OC, or something else entirely. But i'm quite boggled as to what is wrong. Ontop of that, I seem to be averaging a 36.5C idle temp, currently on 2% load It rockets up to 55-60C when watching a youtube video, and as stated before, tops out at around 75C I'm rocking a Corsair H115i with it's stock fans, and it seems to run better if i run it off the CPU package temp on the balanced preset. Then if i can't stand the rapid fan changes, and set it to the H115i Temp, it just tops out it's temp under any load, and stays there until i stop whatever i'm doing and just let it idle again So long story short, Do i need to just lower my OC, or my voltage, or something in my bios, Or is this possibly some kind of problem with my bios or cpu, or something. Like i said, I have no real idea what i'm doing here, and can only go off what i've read and watched from reliable sources, such as here, the LTT youtube, other tech youtubers etc. Thank you very much in advance if anyone can help me, or re-assure me that i'm over reacting and it's all a-ok
  17. One of my buddies is building a PC. He is completely new to it and I only have one PC under my belt, so I do not want to mislead him. If he is getting the ASUS Crosshair VI Hero and the G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB(2x8gb) DDR4-3000 memory, will he have issues? The config menu for the Crosshair VI Hero has the following memory frequencies listed: DDR4-2133 / 2400 / 2666 / 3200. Does this makes the 3000 memory kit unusable and/or less efficient? Thank you in advance for your help. PcPartPicker Link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2GRnxY

  19. Hi everyone! My Ryzen Build is almost finished (still waiting on the matx motherboard to go on stock)I have a question. I was planning on splitting my current memory kit from my main rig (4x8GB g-skill ripjaws V 3200mhz) to my ryzen build so they'll be 16GB each at 3200mhz. I'm a bit worried about stability so I was wondering if there is a specific kit that works better for ryzen. if there is can you guys tell me so I can order now. I'm looking for a 16gb kit (2 sticks) if possible at 3200mhz too (can be slower if recommended) TIA
  20. Hello i have decided to finaly buy a new rig after 9 years. I want to build a system that it will last me at least 6 years. I currently have i7-920 3.8 OC with Seidon 120V v2, 12gb 1033MHz ddr3 ram, r9 290 tri-x. i want to build a ryzen system, i will use it for game development and gaming. These are the items i have concluded: CPU: 1800X or 1700X, not sure yet Motherboard: Asus Rog Crosshair VI Hero RAM: Gskill Flare X 16GB 3200MHz DDR4 Cooling: CoolerMaster MasterLiquid 240 Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Tempered Glass SSD: Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 250GB or Samsung 850 Evo 500GB HDD: i will use from my current-old rig PSU: i will use from my current-old rig GPU: i will use from my current-old rig I am tending towards 1700X, then get a water-cooling and OC at a later time. Here are my questions: 1) will 16GB be enough for the future or should i get 32gb ram with lower frequency? 2) Also i don't quite understand the dual rank and dual channel thing. The Crosshair VI Hero support 4 modules of ram, if i buy flare x pack which has 2 modules, and later i buy another flare x pack so i can get 32gb total, will they work? or i will have to buy a 4 module pack? 3) if i get 1700X and OC with water-cooling, will i be able to match 1800X OC? 4) which ssd to choose? go for speed with the 960 EVO or for lower speed but increased capacity with 850 EVO? If you have any suggestions or improvements i shall make please post below. Thanks in advance for helping.
  21. Howdy there, should I OC the 1700 inside the motherboard bios or use the AMD Ryzen master utility thing? As i would like to overclock it to 4.00ghz.
  22. Ok so I have read that the 1700x and the 1800x have a difference of 20C than what the temp is actually reporting. If that is true or not I don't know but even with that accounted for my temps just seem to be completely off. At idle temps sitting at 69C up to 76C. Played one game of Counter Strike: Global Offense and the CAM overlay showed temps jumping into the high 90s and right after the system stopped and shut down. Clearly there's some issue here. The cooler I am using is a Corsair H60 (I know not the biggest cooler but its just running at stock speeds so should be plenty of cooling power). Any help with this would be appreciated.
  23. Hey guys, I'm building a gaming/workstation PC, will it be right to pair 2 1080 ti's with ryzen 7 1700x and also would 850 watts power supply would be enough or should I get 1000 watts. Will all 4x8 GB dimms over clock to 2933 MHz.
  24. My motherboard - gigabyte ab350 gaming 3 rev 1.0 Bios- F5 Cpu cooler - cooler masterliquid lite 120 Power supply- corsair vs 550 Ram-gskill ripjaws 5 2400mhz 16gb kit. I am getting 70-80°C itself in bios mode and 40-50°C idle temps in windows 10 under high performance power plan with xfr(auto overclocking) enabled. The cpu core voltages remain 1.2-1.43V continuously. When I changed power plan to 'balanced' idle temps are 35-50°C and core voltages are 0.8225-1.43V.My room temperatures are around 25-30 degrees. Am i the only one who'z getting such high temps or is there anyone like me too.During Prime95 torture test the cpu goes to 70-80°C within just few seconds. All the temperatures stated above by me are noted after subtracting the 20 degrees offset as declared by amd community.I Q-flashed my bios but still no change in temps.During load temps cross 70°C easily.I have applied cooler master mastergel thermal compound in right quantity yet facing the issue.Even the cpu cooler's fans also spin at maximum speeds even at idle temps.Should I RMA my chip ?someone please help me out.
  25. So I'm sure you've seen this video doing the rounds, particularly among AMD fanboys looking for any and every possible reason that someone else who isn't AMD is responsible for Ryzen not being the fantastic gaming CPU they were promised -- and bonus points if you can claim that it's somehow Nvidia's doing (let's choose to ignore the fact that the only Nvidia CPU you're likely to be gaming on is inside the Nintendo Switch) As a preface I quite like Jim, I like the testing that he does and he's always a fun and interesting person to have a discussion with. However, his conclusion in this oftly cited gotcha video is just flat out wrong. This isn't the first time I've actually brought up on this forum how astonishingly multithreaded this game is in Directx 12, so to see the Internet plastered with this video claiming that this game is limited to mainly one core on Nvidia drivers is a little odd. I have, however, never looked at this game at 1080p, so I decided to have a little look at that, both with SLI on, and off. Just a warning now, apologies for "screenshots" being literal photographs of my monitor. GeForce Experience is borked for me atm and I cba to fix it, and steam overlay doesn't work with RotTR. So moving on, I tested Geothermal valley on my ageing 6-core both with SLI on (2xGTX 1080) and SLI off, in the same place as both AdoredTV and DigitalFoundry. Gaming with only one GTX 1080 even at 1080p it is difficult to say whether I am CPU or GPU bound. They are both running pretty close to their limit, but the 1080 undoubtedly has nothing left to give, while the 3960X has a little. This is actually why I still don't consider 1080p a "low resolution" when it comes to benchmarking CPUs. Even at 1080p, with a Sandy Bridge CPU an overclocked GTX 1080 is still at 98% utilisation. The picture shows at that point in Geothermal Valley I am getting 102.3 FPS, while at 98% GPU utilisation. It gets interesting when you look at CPU utilisation. Not too shabby, 75% utilisation across all 12 logical threads. I find it hard to look at this CPU utilisation and conclude that the Nvidia driver is loading one core particularly more than the others as AdoredTV claimed. Nevertheless, I had a look at what the numbers look like with Multi GPU enabled. In the same position GPU utilisation has plummeted all the way down to 56%, either this game has crap multi GPU support or I am truly CPU limited here. FPS has increased to 110.5 fps, which coupled with the complete lack of stuttering implies the latter to me. So let's have a look at what the CPU looks like here. See when I first saw utilisation like this in a Dx12 game my reaction was "holy shit, at last". 98% utilisation across 12 logical cores. Evidently, I am indeed CPU limited here. Whether I was GPU bottlenecked before, or whether the introduction of SLI has also resulted in additional CPU load, I can't say, but it is clear that my CPU has very little left to give here, while the 1080s do. What is clear, however, is that the claim being circulated that Nvidia's Dx12 driver for Rise of the Tomb Raider cannot split the first core's workload across the CPU, and therefore this is the reason for Ryzen's lacklustre performance is simply not true. This game loves cores. This game should love Ryzen much more than the 7700K, regardless of whose GPU it is paired with.
