AMD Ryzen 5 1600X OC on MSI X370 GAMING PRO
Nero_XY posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello, I want to overclock my AMD Ryzen 5 1600X OC on MSI X370 GAMING PRO. I tried it bevor and got it to 4.0GHz all core at a fixed voltage of 1,35V. But with a new BIOS that doesn't seem to bee an option anymore...what settings do I now need to get the same (or better) result? Is there anything I should adjust for stability and longevity? Thank you very much for your answers -
According to specs ryzen 1600x can support max 2667mhz ram. https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-5-1600x So if i will go past that pc will not boot? Because i have 3000mhz xmp ram, that doesnt boot. But it does at 2400mhz, 2667 is not stable, first i thought it didnt boot because of not updated bios.(mobo is b450m pro 4 bios p1.10).

Hello there, I posted earlier today but got no answer. I think I posted in the wrong place and for that I'm sorry. Hopefully this is the right place. I want to upgrade from a 1600x to a 3600 but I fear stability issues on my b350 board, because I started to have some after the bios upgrade. Config: MB - Gigabyte AB350 gaming 3 CPU - 1600x PSU - Seasonic S12II 620W RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB DDR4 3000MHz CL15 Dual Channel Kit GPU - RX580 4GB A few days ago I flashed my bios to the latest one (F51b) from the first one (F3), following all steps: 1. Updated windows 2. Installed latest AMD chipset drivers 3. Installed bios in the specific order from the documentation. Issue 1) 1600x has problems reaching 4.1ghz which it did before: Checked in aida64 during a stress test and the 1600x no longer boosts to 4.1ghz, instead it stays stuck at 3.7ghz on all cores all the time. Does the same thing in gaming, never reaches 4.1ghz. However when I'm not gaming or doing anything in particular I can see it spike at 4.1ghz occasionally in aida64 statistics. Issue 2) BSOD: The first day after I got a couple of blue screens, nothing major, everything seemed to be Ok-ish. I started getting them today as well out of nowhere. I have no idea what's causing them. I also gamed for two 4 hour sessions and didn't have any issues, but when I'm just browsing the web it sometimes BSODs. I will try to scan the QR code next time. How do I fix this? Will I have the same issue with the 3600? Already ordered a new PSU: Super Flower Leadex III Gold, 80+ Gold, 750W in preparation for a new GPU (50$ msrp variation 3070 or 6800) Thank you!!

So i'm looking into buy a 1600x when they come out later this year as my 8350 isn't really keeping up at the moment with the kinda games i'm playing. this is the bulid i'm planning on doing: Ryzen 1600x Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming or MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon (Whatever DDR4 is cheap at the time) I'm a university student and i have my PC in my dorm with me, i was wondering about using an AIO instead of an air cooler but i'm a bit worried about moving it too and from my university. So would an AIO be fine or would it be better just to get a better air cooler?

It seems that Ryzen will likely deliver. It seems that AMD will almost price match intel and offer a category above of their pricing. Also I would say be wary of the leaks as always but since we are getting so close to launch I am inclined to believe that this has a large chance of being real, since I am guessing most reviewers already have the chips at hand. source

so im trying to plan up a build, im a huge AMD fan boy and want to make a amd themed build my key points are got to have a amd cpu and gpu i like asus and msi brands, its got to be small and portable for lan parties, quite and cool, and rgb stuff<3 and i was thinking about the next aio cooler?

I've been thinking about selling my 6700K for like $275 and my motherboard for about $60 so that I can buy a R5 1600X and motherboard to go with it. The reason for this is that while I do play some games, its barely ever when I do, so giving up the little bit of gaming performance is no big deal. Also I do a lot of video editing and rendering, where more cores would benefit. Another thing I've been considering is buying more RAM as video editing and especially After Effects benefit from this greatly. However ram prices continue to skyrocket (16Gb of DDR4 3000MHz will cost me about $170 alone right now and buying an 8Gb stick isn't worth it as the price doesn't scale very well) What would be the best choice for my situation? Keeping in mind gaming performance is not really a concern at all.

Hello fellow ltt-enthusiast ;), i'm currently planning my first own build and could use some help :). Budget: 1000€ - 1400€ specs: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/NbgfgL (Prices should be in euros as i'm living in Germany) I haven't yet decided on a cpu cooler. Regarding gpu: does anyone have experience with the evga ftw hybrid, i just saw it somewhere and kinda liked the concept, is it worthwhile/ any good? The choice of case isn't set in stone either, I'm open for suggestions. pls keep in mind that this is my first build so dont tear me apart ;), you seam to be a nice community anyway. thx in advance

Hey guys! I did a full sys upgrade yesterday. All components except the case and CPU fan are brand new - Ryzen r5 1600x (they didn't have 1600 at the store and couldn't give me an ETA for ordering), MSI Tomahawk B350, 16 gigs of HyperX ram and RX480, all powered by a Seasonic. For the time being I am using a leftover stock cooler from my Phenom II 955 BE seeing as it was the only thing I had around compatible with the new socket. I will hook on a CM seidon AIO I used on my last build as soon as I get the new mounting bracket (on it's way from Switzerland now), as I am not in the mood to spend another 40 bucks for the cheapest AM4 cooler I can find here. After putting everything together (I had to disassemble everything and take it to the shop for a BIOS flash as my MoBo wouldn't POST due to BIOS v1.0 not recognizing my CPU), I finally installed win10. My temps are around 55 oC at idle, and after 5 minutes of prime95 small f testing I got to 90 oC at which point I shut the test down. The stock cooler I'm using used to come bundled with a 125w TDP CPU, so the high temps left me a bit stunned. Also, even at those very high temps the heatsink is almost cold to the touch. What do you think could be the cause? Is it a faulty read from the MoBo, did I screw up with the amount of thermal compound I used, or is it something third?

So I overclocked my 1600x to 3,9ghz and set the cpu volt to 1.4V. For some reason it would boot up so I put it to auto in the BIOS. For some reason though it automatically put it to 1.525 Volts (which is guess a bit too much) and otherwise it won't boot up. Can somebody explain to me why

I am planning to get a new cpu and motherboard (some ddr 4 ram as well). My current cpu is fx 6300 and gpu is gtx 960. I am planning to get a 1080p 144 hz monitor, one of either benq xl2411 or lg 24gm79. I will be upgrading my gpu next year as well. I had decided to purchase a i7 7700 and a b250 mobo. It was simply a better deal than an i5 7600k. However, this got much more complex when I started considering ryzen. I've spent more than a week going back and forth between the i7 7700 and ryzen r5 1600. I want to purchase a cpu mainly for gaming and want one which is capable enough to not bottleneck gpus for the next 4-5 years, or in other words last a long time. My argument is that if a budget fx 6300 could last this long, an i7 surely can. I live in India. The following are links to the prices of the said processors and motherboards that I chose. R5 1600 - Rs 16,300 = $ 253.05 (USD) R5 1600x - Rs 18,950 = $ 294.19 R7 1700 - Rs 25,100 = $ 389.66 i7 7700 - Rs.23,500 = $ 364.82 i5 7600k - Rs 20,070 = $ 311.57 b350 amd - Rs 8500 = $ 131.96 b250 intel - Rs 7800 = $ 121.09 z270 intel - Rs 11,520 = $ 178.840 The motherboards cost roughly the same. My budget is somewhat flexible but not flexible enough to fit an i7 7700k and I'd rather not spend more than I have to as I'm buying this for a college student. r5 1600 clears up room for additional stuff like ssd as well, but I'd like to emphasize that the processor is the priority here. Note on overclocking and why I didn't consider r5 1600x- I have no problems with overclocking and might as well do it if I can. I chose an i7 over an i5 because the i7 didn't need any overclocking to perform better than the i5. As far as aftermarket coolers are concerned, I already have a cooler master hyper 212x but I have no way of getting a compatible bracket for the am4 motherboards here in India. For this reason alone, I'm never going to purchase anything from cooler master again. This is why I didn't give much thought to the 1600x. It doesn't come with a cooler and I don't want to buy another. I was hoping to find some way of importing a stupid bracket from abroad in the future (please tell me if you know a way) or not deal with this complication entirely by getting the i7. I will only purchase a new cooler if it is absolutely worth it. PS My psu is a Cooler Master Thunder 600w. Any suggestions regarding anything from ram recommendations to opinion on monitors (would free sync be worth it) are welcome. Please don't hold back from what's in your mind. It might help me out.

so just yesterday i updated my old i5 3570 to a shinning and lovely new ryzen 5 1600x(MSI x370 pro carbon & 16gb 3200mhz ddr4 corsair vengance lpx, c16 though) and while all seemed fine and dandy, the cooler (an id-cooling SE 903, only thing that i could get that was compatible) wasnt behaving like i though it would. DISCLAIMER: i'm no expert in third party cooling, always used stock cooling, mostly out of poorness and lazyness. i was expecting temps between 30-40°C on idle and 50-60°C on load. What i got was 40-45 idle and a lovely 60 to 75°C on load. also did some testing on prime95 and after not only the cpu got all the way to 75°C, the PC also restarted(which is always a bad sign imho) so i would like some help to figure out: is the cooler crappy or is just mine crappy? or can it be because i installed it wrongly for some reason?(the cooler is hard as balls to install) also what would be normal temps for a cooler like this on ryzen? Thanks guys

Hello , I currently am running 2500k on a Gigabyte UD3 mobo and Hyper 212x cooler with 16gb ram and a GTX 980Ti G1 Gaming. I use my computer for gaming, programming/work and Video and Photo Editing. I'm mainly thinking of upgrading my CPU to have more threads to help with the video editing. PS my gaming is done on a 4k 60hz panel and I am more for the cinematic of games than raw performance and I also watch 4k content when available. My 2500k performs just fine in all games I play so it's not really an upgrade aimed for gaming. https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/list/2Dd6VY What do you guys think about this upgrade path? Any other options?

hello community, i want your humble opinions and suggestions about the following parts that i'm willing to buy Case : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B01M35FI12/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1X6FK5RDHNB96&psc=1 Cooler :https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B01NC06ZYT/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A38F5RZ72I2JQ&psc=1 Cpu : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B06XKWT7GD/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?smid=A1X6FK5RDHNB96&psc=1 Gpu : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B01GVHNWUK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?smid=A1X6FK5RDHNB96&psc=1 Motherboard : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B06X9LN311/ref=ox_sc_act_title_9?smid=A1X6FK5RDHNB96&psc=1 RAM : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0134EW7G8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A1X6FK5RDHNB96&psc=1 PSU : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0100QRRTK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=A1X6FK5RDHNB96&psc=1 Storage 1 (m.2) : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B01M2WYNP2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A1X6FK5RDHNB96&psc=1 Storage 2 : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0088PUEPK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A12AZO93WUWC8P&psc=1 Total ( amazon.fr price) = 1.293,18€ there you have it, now for the cpu cooler,i know its an overkill since i'm only willing to boost my cpu to 3.9ghz or 4.0ghz and i really want the Bequiet! dark rock 3 ( mainly for looks) but i don't know if it comes with AM4 brackets out of the box, so i'm open to hear your suggestions about air coolers that come with am4 brackets out of the box. Also, i live in a rather warm city "32C ambient temp", so i want a cooler that performs really well and keeps the cpu cool since i'm only willing to game all day. Waiting patiently for your replies

I'm building a pc around July, and i originally wanted to get the 1600X. But i was told to get the 1600 since the performance price isn't that far apart with the 1600X but comes with the wraith spire cooler. In LTT's 1600X review with the wraith spire that the 1600 came with, the differences between the stock cooler and a noctua aftermarket one is pretty far, so i decided to get the 1600X with a cryoric h5 ultimate cooler. The 1600X with the cooler costs around $300 while the 1700 costs $320. Should i get the 1600X with the cryorig cooler or should i just get the 1700 and use it's stock wraith spire since there's only a $20 price difference but i can get 2 extra cores and 4 threads. PC parts list so far: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QMYh8K I decided to get the cryoric cooler from this comparison: https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cases_cooling/cpu_air_cooler_mega_test/3

Hey guys i was just wondering where to buy Ryzen 1600x in Canada?
-
So i've been waiting for ryzen 5 for a while now and i'm planning on upgrading to it however, i haven't really seen it put up against the FX lineup. My 8350 is only 2 years old at this point and it's still going strong so i was wondering is it worth getting ryzen 5 now or waiting a little while and sticking with the 8350? I mostly use my PC for gaming and i have picked up some CPU heavy games recently which the 8350 is struggling with a little but is easily rectified by changing the settings down lower. Current build: FX 8350 Sapphire R9 fury nitro 8GB kingston HyperX fury ram Gigabyte 970 gaming motherboard CX 750W cosair PSU planned build: 1600 MSI X370 Pro Carbon motherboard 16GB Kingston DDR4

Hey guys apologies in advance if I overlooked a pre-existing forum that already covers this, but I'm curious for my upcoming build: How many cores/threads does one need to stream any given AAA title (Ghost Recom: Wildlands comes to mind) without dipping below 60fps on my end, and stream aforementioned games (using obs or xsplit) preferably at the same res I play at (1080x60fps)? Internet bandwidth isn't a concern for me, just FYI. I'm currently set on the new Ryzen 7 1700 seeing as it has 8 cores and SMT for 16 threads, but could a 1600x suffice with it's only 6 cores and 12 threads? Or perhaps something even lower, like a quad core 8 threaded processer could do it potentially? Thanks for all the help guys! (Quick side note, $330 is the highest I can go for a CPU atm, and I'm not favored to either side, just wanted to try AMDs new latest and greatest)

So I'm looking into getting the 1600X when it launches and I'm also going to get 16GB of ram but I can't decide on whether to get two 8GB sticks or four 4GB sticks. Thoughts?

I had made an original post here: I wanted to make another forum post to organize and not leave out information. I put together my Ryzen build, Downloaded the latest drivers and set everything up accordingly. I ran benchmarks on cinebench and I then Restarted and entered the bios on my Crosshair VI hero. I set my core clock speed to 41.00 and turned the voltage to 1.4 for a start. I ran another benchmark. I jumped from 1210 cinebench to 730. My core speeds were then running around around 2200mhz instead of upwards from 3600mhz. The Motherboard is running on 1107 and the Ryzen drivers are the latest. I have tried doing it with and without the newest drivers. I have tried leaving voltage on auto, and leaving it on 1.3. I have dropped the core speed. If I do anything to configure the bios manually. the cpu will not function properly. Any and all suggestions will be attempted even if i have tried it already. I am grateful for any help. Here is where I will link my Monitoring: Nothing Overclocked---https://gyazo.com/e91aaf085f95906d4cc0f7d6c84665f0 Overclocked to 4.0 GHz---https://gyazo.com/c526abccb99983a8940537807a0f9235

I'm trying to overclock my Ryzen 5 1600x to 4.1 Ghz on auto voltages. My memory is clocked to 2933MHz on 1.3 voltage. My motherboard is asus crosshair VI hero. I get the max Core clock to show 4088 MHz in HWMonitor, but the cpu cant seem to press past 2248 while manually OC'd. The card normally pumps out 3.6-7. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem? I have my bios to 1107. I am new to Overclocking and used Paul's Hardware as a refrence video and he made it seem very simple. The card seems bottlenecked. ***As an edit, im providing my monitoring as a gyazo link**** https://gyazo.com/a50ac06f83b9acb8a0ff5a16c1dcfb6d

After much heartache I have finally got a fully functioning Ryzen build. *celebrates* However, when I try overclock the CPU (BCLK: 100MHZ, Multiplier: 38 or 40, Voltage:1.375-1.400) in CPU-Z and HWMonitor it shows the multiplier being set to 22 and thus the CPU frequency is 2200MHz. Running Cinebench with these settings I get about half the score I get when I don't change anything and the CPU runs at stock settings and HWMonitor and CPU-Z show no change in clock frequency. The motherboard is running the latest BIOS (F5 for Gigabyte) and I am running the latest versions of CPU-Z and HWMonitor, I have set the power settings to High Performance. Has anyone had any experience of this happening, be it on Ryzen or another platform?

Im on a very tight budget (around $950) and im not sure if the 1600x plus a cooler is worth the extra $75 over just the regular 1600. Thanks.

Built an 1600x system with an Asrock x370 Taichi Originally booted up fine, worked for the day, started the overclocking process. Easy 3.9ghz at 1.375. But as soon as memory was touched, it wouldn't post. It got worse and worse and worse, then just wouldn't post all together. Quick call with newegg, bad board, RMA'd in a jiffy. New board, now RGB actually works (didn't on the old board apperently), I can overclock the ram no problem now. But now I can't seem to get over 3.7ghz at 1.375, I bumped the voltage up a single notch to 1.38 and I have it happily at 3.8ghz with XMP ram. Can't seem to get 3.9 now, and 4.0 is just out of the question without dumping in voltages. Originally on the new board 3.9 was alright, started crashing, bumped it down to 3.8. Passed all tests, ran at that for a week, and started crashing. That's when I bumped the voltage up a slight bit. Its a Noctua u14 so temps are more then alright. 56 degrees under Prime95, Ambient of 19C. What would be the likely hood of a bad board degrading processor as such? Give the evidence that seems to be the case...
