What do you guys think about this build for 1440p, 60 fps gaming? Also, would you rather get an i5 or i7 for mainly gaming and light video editing as well? I plan to get this build and keep it for around 3 years before upgrading anything. 1. Budget I would like to spend US$1100 but am willing to go up to about $1200 2. Aim VERY IMPORTANT: I want this computer to last four years or more, secondly at the moment I don't know much about over-clocking and am not sure how it will affect my 4 year goal. I plan to use this computer for mostly gaming but I will also be using this as a productivity computer. Productivity is nothing intensive and I will be playing games such as: borderlands 2, the witcher 3, and CS:GO. In addition, I already have a 240GB SSD and a 1TB HD so don't include them in the price. Lastly, I personally want to get Intel CPU and Nvidia graphics. 3. Monitors I am planning to run a 24-27in monitor(not sure, whatever the normal size is) as well as a smaller monitor for references. 4. Peripherals I have a keyboard and mouse as well as a headset. I will need to buy a monitor and windows but that is not included in the $1200 budget. 5. Why are you upgrading? My previous computer was a 5 year old iMac and that worked fine but the logic board recently failed and it would cost over $1000 to replace. 6. Questions Is it worth to get the new skylake processor for the added DDR4 vs. DDR3 and more up to date motherboard? If I'm not going skylake, what are the advantages and disadvantages of xeon vs. i7? If I don't over-clock, will having a base clock of 3.4GHz or 4.0GHz make a huge difference for me? ATX or Micro ATX, do I lose much in the transition or is it ok for what I want to go micro? Should I even consider i5? 7. Hello LinusTechTips Forums! I come to you guys and girls with a question, my friend is looking to build a gaming PC, around the £800 mark but he is willing to go a bit over if necessary. Would you be able to help us out? We are basing it around Linus's $1500 build, which is about £930, and we're wondering what updates you guys could add to this build in respects to hardware? We already have the Graphics card down, a GTX 960, and all the peripherals to go with it. what would you guys recommend for the rest? Thanks!

This is my first ever build. I intend to play games on 1080p with settings maxed out and some low-end content creation. I also intend to mildly overclock my components. My original budget was $2000, but life happens and I've had to cut that down dramatically. Now I'm at $1200 (USD) maximum budget before tax and rebates. Lower is better. This is my first actual build. I've educated myself a lot (thanks in large part to LTT) since I started learning a couple of years ago, but I'm looking for seasoned builders to have a look. My goals for this build are: * Excellent performance in games at 1080p on a single monitor for the next few years * Reliable performance for occasional audio/video editing * Can handle the crushing weight of Chrome with a bunch of open tabs/apps * MOBO supports overclocking and 2x SLI for future upgrades * Going for a blue and black theme Must Haves and No-Gos: * Gotta have an i5 * Gotta have an NVIDIA GPU (I've had mixed results with my current 7670m) * Gotta have an SSD boot drive * AC Wireless is a must * Don't want a 970. Even if it somehow fit in the budget the whole VRAM thing makes me skittish for future upgrades to resolutions >1080p... The feedback I've gotten is that it's nothing to worry about. I agree if all I'm looking at is 1080p on a single monitor, but what if I upgrade down the line and to multiple monitors at higher resolutions? I think I'd rather upgrade to a current card in 3-5 years than add in a second 970 and risk dealing with a performance hit for accessing that extra 500MB. So there. Does anyone have suggestions to reduce this price without major sacrifices? I know there's cheaper drives out there, but I'm wary of lower quality. Thanks for taking a look! Hey Guys, this is my first post on the forums so hopefully this will be a good experience! This is my first gaming build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/TripleHelix/saved/kCrD4D I didn't really know much about how to do this so I just threw some stuff together and that is what I go (it ran much better than it seems like it might). I want to be able to push 3, 1080p monitors and possibly recycle some parts if I can from the old rig. If I can't its nbd but it would be nice. I am going to use this PC to do audio editing (I won't need a sound card), programing (PHP,Cpp,HTML, etcetc), and gaming. I'll be playing games like BF4, TF2, Dota2, and what ever games come out that peak my interest. I'd love to hear what you guys think I should build! I'll post pics when I'm done! Thanks!
