  1. I am looking for a bit of advice or counseling so to speak on what I should look for or expect in a gaming laptop $1,000 USD or less. I need the laptop able to run most titles on low or medium settings at or above 60 fps while streaming or recording software is running. I honestly do not know what I should look for or expect to be good at this price concerning laptops. I would also like to edit videos and graphics at a stable a decent quality as well as a bit of music production at times. I also really do not want to go any less that 16gigs RAM and run SSDs only ngl. Some points I would say are needed to touch on would be: -Processor and clock speeds -Acceptable GPUs -Storage -Just every spec and part in the laptop is in question. I really want to make a informed decision and not get screwed out of the absolute best at the available price. I until now have not had anything better that pre-owned user referbished $250 old office laptops to game on. I have an out and do not want to settle. It needs performance and to be honest a little shine wont hurt given it would be nice if it felt good as well. Thanks for any and all help and advice ahead of time. Linus really likes to hype this forum so I want to see if it was worth the account creation given this is my first time creating an account on any forum. I only ever just scour forum after forum without accounts for any information or research. Given it would always be a colossal waste to make an account for every forum I come across given the dozens of unique issues I have or would have, I never do. Today is full of first for me. Please be gentle. EDIT: MADE THE FONT BIGGER. IT WAS HARD TO READ ON MOBILE.
  2. I need a laptop under $1000 (inr70000). My usage will look something like Ableton Live, autocad, coding and a bit of gaming (assassin creed , gta) I am thinking about getting a 3050 based but I am confused. Rn I am looking at HP victus , Asus tuf gaming f15 and Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 though they r pretty similar I am really confused. YouTube reviews concludes that hp has a better typing experience (keyboard), Asus has better build, and Lenovo have 1 year accidental warrenty.
  3. I am looking for a laptop for around inr 70000 (prox. $1000) .I plan to add a 1tb hdd or 512 ssd (whatever is supported) and a ram stick (to get a total 16gb ram) once I can afford to. Although I am quite confused the ones I have shortlist are :- -HP Victus (RTX 3050) Link -Asus TUF Dash F15 (RTX 3050) Link -Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 (3050) Link Feel free to suggest any other laptop in the same price range. I plan to use it for :- -gaming (gta, assassin creed or similar games) -coding ( whatever they r gonna teach once I'm in college in a few months) -audio production (normal usage in Ableton) -autocad ( I plan to learn it soon..)
  4. looking for laptop recommendations for going back to school but also gaming capable, around $1000 or less. Starting my first year of college and I want a possibly gaming laptop to use for college. An important thing for me though is looks, I do not want a "gamer" looking laptop. A sleek and thin laptop that is gaming capable would be the best for me, with also decent build quality. I don't really plan on playing triple A games or hard to run games, and I don't expect a beast laptop at around $1000.
  5. Budget (including currency): $1000 USD Country: California, USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): My friend would like a Windows key and a WiFi USB adapter. He does not have Ethernet. He would also like RGB, mainly on the RAM. I did build a PC: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZdHk9r

  9. Hey all, one of my friends has been a console gamer all his life and recently decided to try out PC gaming since all of his friends are playing on PC due to the virus. He reached out asking for help building his first PC with a budget of $1000. He isn't very tech savvy, but I figure if he watches some YouTube videos and has come common sense (and maybe a friend there to help him out) he should be fine. He asked if it could include the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. As far as I know, he plans on using it for school and gaming, no editing or streaming. Not sure what games he plays, but I'd imagine he'd like to be able to play anything he can play on Xbox on PC. Here is what we made while talking about what he needed: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor $172.76 @ Walmart Motherboard ASRock B450 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard $79.99 Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory $67.99 @ Newegg Storage Western Digital Blue 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $69.99 @ Newegg Storage Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $54.98 @ Newegg Video Card MSI Radeon RX 5700 8 GB MECH OC Video Card $301.99 @ Newegg Case Fractal Design Focus G ATX Mid Tower Case $62.98 @ Newegg Power Supply EVGA BQ 600 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply $74.45 @ Walmart Monitor MSI Optix G241 23.8" 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor $189.99 Keyboard Corsair K55 RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard $49.88 @ Amazon Mouse Logitech G203 Prodigy Wired Optical Mouse $32.65 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $1177.65 Mail-in rebates -$20.00 Total $1157.65 Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-04-29 01:24 EDT-0400 I'd appreciate any general advice about the build, but also have one specific question: On PCPartPicker, it says there could be potential incompatibility issues between the CPU and motherboard because the mobo might need a driver update. Does this model have this issue? He wouldn't have a spare second gen Ryzen CPU sitting around.
  10. HI, so I am helping a friend buy a laptop which he is looking for. He doesnt really need it for gaming because then will distract him but needs to be good for everday use and fast speeds for around $800-$900 (aus). please help me and ask any questions if not sure. THANKS
  11. Corsair XMS3 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1333 Memory Vs. G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory
  12. I am helping a friend design a build for him for $1000 (not the kind of guy that'll turn me into the "I need help" hot-line). The build will be in the USA. The hard drive will be recycled from his old dell box (it is SATA, he doesn't care for an ssd, and only wants a few games... for now). If you think you can beat my build and include an ssd, that would be appreciated, but keep in mind I would need a new windows key if I want to install it on the new hard drive (unless I'm dumb and there's a way to migrate the OS to a new drive... if there is please explain or link me to a place where this has already been discussed). He finds the aesthetic of the build very important, so if you cut back on the beauty of the build, there better be at least a decent reason other than "It saves money"... It'll have to be a lot of money and not compromise aesthetics entirely. Obviously if you can find a better value product (priced somewhat similarly, or not if there is good reason) that'd be a good enough reason to change a component like the case, ram (stick with G. Skill since they have the best ryzen support as far as I'm aware... I will probably reject any intel build unless there is a REALLY good reason to use intel, yes the budget is a good reason), or GPU. He will use several multi-threaded applications, or so he says (not sure of what they are, so I'm taking him at his word). This makes AM4 a good option IMO. He will also do some gaming. I think my second paragraph made this point obvious... just reiterating it. Sometimes either the ethernet or wifi goes down at our apartment (rarely, but when it does it lasts a while), so a wifi card is necessary to switch between the connections as required. His monitor is a 60 Hz 1080p screen, and he does not plan to upgrade this screen for a while. I would have gone for a better GPU if 1080p @ 60Hz was not the target. He'll upgrade the monitor with a better GPU down the line. He does not want to upgrade the system for a long time after it is initially built. This another reason why I think AM4 is a great option... you know, since LGA 1151 is a dead platform since cannonlake (and future generations) will not be developed on it. It is also why I chose an AMD GPU. AMD has a history of great support for there old GPUs (relative to the only other option, nVidia) since I delved into building computers 3 and 1/2 years ago. I'm very open to GPU suggestions. I would wait for rx 580 pricing, but I have a feeling clearance rx 480s will make for much better deals and cost less (open to rx 570 if it is cheaper and matches build aesthetic). Prices for the rx 5x0 series is still pretty blank on PCPartPicker. There is a hard price cap at $1050. Not a dollar over unless that dollar (or those very few) bring a lot of performance to the table. Narrow improvement will be outright rejected if they go over $1050. I really don't want to see $1000 broken though. This is what I came up with: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9HXxjc CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($319.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: ASRock X370 Taichi ATX AM4 Motherboard ($198.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($134.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: Asus Radeon RX 480 4GB Dual Video Card ($188.99 @ SuperBiiz) Case: Phanteks ECLIPSE P400S TEMPERED GLASS ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Amazon) Wireless Network Adapter: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter ($29.99 @ SuperBiiz) Other: SeSonic M12II Fully Modular 620 Watt PSU (w/$20 rebate) ($39.90) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16817151095 Total: $1002.84 Any suggestions, modifications, or comments that will add to the value of the build or share knowledge about the reasoning behind components in the build would be greatly appreciated. Please be extra specific if discussing the logic behind the ram/mobo selection, as verifying what ram works well with which mobo is a topic with much confusion right now. I know I don't know everything, but I do know samsung's dies are good, and G. Skill's Tridentz lineup uses just that. FlareX is pricey, so good luck making it work if you choose to use that.
  13. What do you think about this PC? HP Pavilion 600 Wave Desktop - Intel Core i7-6700T Quad-Core 2.8GHz, 16GB Memory, 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD, Windows 10 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4XBP6W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_u3XkzbD7YZE7A
  14. Alright guys, I've been researching a lot. But I need help there's just so much to choose and I'm afraid of the outcome being bad. I want to build My first PC with RGB, intel i7 and some sort of GTX 1070. And the rest of the parts to be affordable but still look great in the end. If possible for $1000 with a max price of $1200 Heres a free thoughts but I'm iffy on it. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Bradyvoelker/saved/jBRt6h https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Bradyvoelker/saved/KRBBmG
  15. I never thought I'd start one of these threads. Hey everyone. I'm going to be joining a conservatory in New York in three months and I need a laptop to get me through four years of it. I can only comfortably afford $1000, but I'm willing to extend that by up to $200 if it's really worth spending extra. I'm a musician and I also edit videos and do a little photo work, all of which will carry on through college. Here are a list of essential and non-essential features- please read them in their entirety before making any recommendations. ESSENTIAL Good build quality and durability I need this thing to last me four years, and I don't want to have to be too cautious with it. I will not consider laptops with poor quality control and high failure rates. This means stuff like the Dell Inspiron 7559 is out. I don't want to have to deal with failing hardware, and if extending my budget covers that base, I'm okay with it. I just won't have the time to deal with RMAs or servicing or DIY repairs. Good onboard headphone audio I don't mean the speakers. I need the headphone audio output to be clean, as I will be mixing audio here for my projects, probably using Tracktion 5 on Windows or Garageband on Mac. USB Type A Ports I need these. I'll have to use a MIDI keyboard, an external HDD, and a mic. I don't want to use dongles for all this. A capable processor Hopefully something that exceeds the performance of my current Core i3 4160 for video editing. The only exception are Mac laptops, due to Final Cut and iMovie's software integration destroying render times. Good battery life I don't need a complete tank, but I probably won't have a charger on hand all the time, so I'm looking for 3 hours or more of battery life under an average workload. A good IPS panel I'm not a pro, so I don't need something with 100% Adobe RGB coverage, but I do need reasonable sRGB performance for content creation and content consumption. I don't care too much about screen size. A good keyboard I'm not too miffed about the trackpad since my MX Master will always be by my side, but I need a good keyboard with reasonable response, travel, and some tactility. I particularly like the keyboards on Pre-2016 MacBook Pros and the old Thinkpads. I'm going to be spending a lot of time typing, so this is very important. I don't need a numpad. My preferred layout is that featured on pre-2016 MacBook Pros or the Venom BlackBook Zero. Upgradeable I would like to be able to replace the stock drive with a 500GB SSD and 16GB of RAM rather than have to buy a preconfigured model. The only exceptions to this are if I can get both of those for cheap; then I won't have to upgrade. A top-mounted webcam I HATE when the webcam is situated at the bottom of the screen. I'll be using this for video calls frequently, and I might even record a few videos using it, so it needs to be above the screen. NON-ESSENTIAL Good speakers Since my Shure SE112s are coming with me, this is not essential. However, it would still be nice to have good, reasonably loud speakers for quick stuff. I understand that anything will do in a pinch, but it won't hurt if the backup was good. A good trackpad I'll use my MX Master whenever I can, but it would certainly be nice to have a good trackpad, as I may not be able to use my mouse in class, and probably won't on the go. I've been spoiled with a 2009 MacBook Pro, so my standards for trackpads are high A discrete GPU I don't plan to game, but I would certainly appreciate the option. Something around the level of a GTX 960M or GTX 1050 would be perfectly adequate. The iGPU would do in a pinch for light titles like Rocket League, but again, I'd appreciate having the option of playing more demanding games. Lightweight Of course, super-heavy 'performance beasts' are already out, as this is a college laptop recommendation thread. I don't mind a slightly bigger laptop, but having something more thin and light is a nice bonus. I'm going to be buying this in July or August, so if there are any new technologies I should look out for (Ryzen/Raven Ridge Laptops, Intel Coffee Lake), let me know. If you're going to recommend a Mac, I'd appreciate if you can point me towards a refurbished product sale link, as they're way too expensive to buy new, even with a student discount. Regards, Aereldor.
  16. *If looking for pcpartpicker link skip to the end* (PSU Not included in pcpartpicker. Link below) Here I will be explaining on why I picked each of these parts and why I think they are more bang for the buck than what linus had done. Processor - Ryzen 5 1400 I decided over this cause it has cheaper motherboards without needing any of that bios update crap. Also I like this more than the i5's cause it has more threads. CPU Cooler - be quiet! - Shadow Rock Slim 67.8 CFM Rifle Bearing CPU Cooler Cheap be quiet! cooler compatible with Ryzen 5, I don't recommend getting a seperate cooler for this since the motherboard is not for overclocking and the wraith cooler does amazing at temp speeds anyways. But I just had to add a be quiet! cooler cause the video was sponsored by the company. Motherboard - MSI A320M GAMING PRO MOTHERBOARD Cheap motherboard on the AM4 chipset. Can be substituted for MSI A320M GRENADE. Memory - G.Skill Aegis 1x16gb or 2x8gb DDR4-2133 This is personal preference. If you are looking to add another ram stick in the future then get the 1x16gb kit. But if 16gb is enough for you then get the 2x8gb kit so you can set up your memory in dual channel. Storage - Seagate - Barracuda 1tb 3.5" 7200RPM HDD and Kingston SSDNOW UV400 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive. Fast enough ssd for a boot drive and a good reliable but cheap 1tb hard drive. Nothing else to say. Video Card/Graphics Card - Gigabyte - GEFORCE GTX 1070 8gb Windforce OC VIDEO CARD This videocard is one of the big reasons I can say this build is more bang for the buck than the build Linus made. Cause I have a more powerful GPU, You can also substitute this to a different aftermarket cooler if you want to add a little extra cash, It's all personal preference. Case - be quiet! Pure Base 600 w/ window (Black/Orange) ATX MID TOWER Still an awesome case, but I prefer others at this pricepoint but this is a sponsored build so I had to go with a be quiet! brand. The room for cable management and building is good. It's great for beginners, Power Supply - be quiet! Pure Power 10 CM 600W https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V5NC2060&ignorebbr=1 I just used the power supply linus used in the video.Since it was a be quiet! one. I also can't find it in pcpartpicker so here is the link Price: $990.2 pcpartpicker link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KsLpnn You don't have to directly follow this build guide if you don't want to like change the case for example etc. This is just to battle the build guide that linus had made. Cause I strongly disagree with the guide he made, I strongly do not recommend beginners and first time builders to follow that guide either cause you can get better at the same pricepoint. But if you disagree with a few things in this build guide then change it if you will. One of the great things about PCMR is you can make it however you want it. Thanks for reading everyone! Hope you like my build guide
  17. Hello, everyone! I have managed to save ~$1000 for my first tower in about 7 years, with a few extra set aside for a fairly cheap but decent 1080p screen I have in mind, a webcam, and a microphone. 1. Budget & Location $1000 or 7000 DKK, as I am in Denmark. Out of this, $140 or 1000 DKK are set aside for an Asus Strix (Did I get that right?) GTX 970 I'm getting from a friend who upgraded. 2. Aim This is meant to be my personal rig on which I'm gonna play games, watch movies, and browse the Internet. I've got a separate machine for work, and I'm a programmer, so even if I were to do any work on this, the most important thing would be that it can run a Linux VM and an IDE comfortably. It would be lovely if I could have some upgradeability where if I change a part, I don't have to change another as well for compatibility. I'm looking for a subdued black look, but if the case has a window, that's cool too. No RGB necessary. One of the parts I was looking at is a Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB SSD. I have one in my laptop and it seems pretty good to me. The price I bought it for was $190 or 1337 DKK including transport, so if you can include one of those, that'd be great. 3. Monitors Two monitors, an old 1440px HP P.O.S, and a 1080p main screen, TBD. No plans to upgrade the monitors any time soon. 4. Peripherals No peripherals or Windows included in the budget. Have all of that, or have separate budget for it. 5. Why are you upgrading? I'm upgrading because my laptop isn't capable of comfortably running games, and I'm sick of Lowest settings and 25 fps. A very important thing to keep in mind is that if you provide sources, websites like Newegg, Amazon.com, and eBay are off the table. I have to pay a metric f ton in import taxes if I order from outside the EU, so I'm limited to Amazon.de (if the seller delivers to DK), Amazon.co.uk, and some Danish websites like edbpriser.dk, pricerunner.dk, av-cables.dk, etc. I know they're going to be in the wrong language for many of you (including me because I don't speak Danish either), but I'm sure Chrome's translate function will help. Thank you for the assistance ahead of time, and Happy Holidays!
  18. Hello, I am wondering if anyone could help me create a parts list for a $1000 PC build. I do not need to buy an operating system. A optical drive is required along with an intel processor and atleast 16gb of ram. The final requirements are that it must be able to play almost all games at 60FPS max settings. Thank you in advance!
  19. Im building a new PC and I was wondering if I can get recommendations on PC builds that will give me good power for gaming, for around $1000.
  20. I am currently planning a build for my friend (who is fairly clueless about PCs). His maximum budget is $1000, and he says he would like to stay under that if possible. He is adamant about having that "gaming" look, and wants everything to have LEDs. I put the NZXT S340 case in here, but if anyone could recommend a case that would fit better, please do. Also, any recommendations on better LED fans, and maybe some RGB strips under $40 heres the list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Lq3K7h
  21. HMU with a sick rig for $1000 Price for Performance.
  22. I REALLY NEED YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS LAPTOP IM PLANNING TO BUY THIS. I HEARD ABOUT THE TEMPERATURE that reaches 86°c+!!! PROBLEMS DOES IT REALLY HEAT THAT MUCH??
  23. I've been looking for a replacement for my runaround laptop. I mostly use it for work, productivity, simple media streaming like watching movies in bed or on the move and sometimes using Steam's game streaming. It's not really for gaming, but a little extra power never hurt. I've had my eye on the Lenovo Flex 5 with a 512Gb SSD and a pen because I like the flexibility of a stylus and touchscreen, which I would replace with my own Wacom tablet while at home, and the folding is nice if I'm going to be using it to watch stuff while in bed or traveling. But I haven't been able to find anything similar. I wanted to ask what your opinion of the laptop is? If you know of any alternatives that are similar and perhaps better? I'd set my budget at around $1,000.00. Really what I'm looking for is at least a 1080p, touchscreen that can fold or somehow make itself more convenient. An SSD would be a plus, so would a stylus and any extra power :b Also a numpad would go down pretty well in my books.
  24. 1. Budget & Location Approx. $1000 Location: US 2. Aim Gaming and occasional 3D modeling (The software I use runs adequately with the i5-4460 that I currently have.) Types of Games: (I want to future proof it a little bit. I don't need ALL High-Extreme settings, but I want the games to run well and look decent. If I get a monitor that runs at 120hz or 144hz I want to be able to run at Med-High settings at that frame-rate.) - Rainbow Six Siege - Overwatch - Shadow of Mordor - League of Legends - Borderlands 2 - CSGO - Shadow of Mordor 2 (not yet out, obviously) 3. Monitors I currently only have one monitor (1080p 60hz). I might upgrade to two monitors, or to one monitor with better capabilities later. (either 120-144hz 1080p or 1440p 60hz) 4. Peripherals I already have Windows 10 on a disk. Components that probably don't need upgrading: - Monitor (1080p 60hz) - Keyboard and Mouse - Mouse (Logitech g502) - Headset (HyperX Cloud II) 5. Why are you upgrading? I'm upgrading because I was a cheapskate on my first build, and it shows to some extent. It was built in August of 2015. I chose cheaper parts rather than better bang for your buck parts. I also believe that my computer will start having problems running games that come out later on this year and next year without at least a few upgrades. I want to know if I should build a completely new system now that I have a better budget, or if I should just upgrade a few of the components from my current system. In an Upgrade: (GPU, add SSD, Change Case, Better Cooling) Current System Hardware: - R9 380 (definite upgrade- I like AMD, for the price, and the performance) - i5-4460 (With Stock cooler) - 8gb DDR3 RAM (I'd like DDR4, but if it doesn't really yield a huge boost in performance, I don't need it) - 7200 rpm HDD (I definitely need an ssd) - 600W power supply (CX600M Corsair Bronze) - Asrock H97 Anniversary Motherboard - Optical Disc Drive - A PC case that was the biggest mistake of my life (Limited cable management, blocks the majority of the intake fans, only has one exit fan at the back)
