Hello Everyone, I have a PC i bought used like a year ago, it was prebuilt, it was working smoothly until today, while I was playing Counter Strike (which I do a lot) my pc just went black screen, when I turned it off and tried rebooting nothing happened, then i opened my case and there is a solid Blue Led by the CMOS Battery PC Specs: Intel i5 4690k Evga Gtx 970 G Skill 2 x 4gb Ram 1 x 128 GB SSD 2 x 1 TB HDD Corsair H110i liquid cooling CS550M Power Supply. What I tried: Removed / Replaced CMOS Battery Took out RAMs tested each slot Took out video card Checked the power supply with a paper clip and it worked Took out all the hard drives Took out all the wires from the power supply (corsair psu have removable wires, except the 20/24 pin) It was working fine for like 18 months because the guy who i bought it from used it for 6 months, but it just happened today, If anyone can recommend a solution that'd be great thank you.

Hello, I have no video with my integrated graphics.PC Specs:MSI Z97 Gaming 5 (latest bios)I5 4670K8gb Mushkin Silver Line 1333MhzCorsair VX 550wGeforce 7300 gs (test video card)I was watching a stream (PC was working fine) on twitch, went to eat and when I arrived the PC monitor was without signal, audio from stream was still playing so only the video was not working. I press the power button to shut down. Once it turned off I press the button again, the PC start to turn on and off each 1-2 seconds, ON and OFF and ON and so on.Memory was not the problem since I installed another one and it didn't work. Disconnected everything, disk, fans, USB headers, sound card and the PC turned ON normally but there was no video. The Motherboard display showed numbers between 28 to 34 (Early CPU Initialization).I installed a spare video card, 7300 gs and I had video!!On windows devices it does not find the Intel HD 4600 graphics. When I plug the DVI cable to the motherboard I have no video, on graphics card I do.I think I have a defective Motherboard but why was it working fine and suddenly no video?Sorry for my English.Thanks.

Selling old i5 4670k + Z97 mobo, what to consider?
Bremykt posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hello. I'm going to sell my old i5 4670k + Asus Z97-AR + 2x 4GB HyperX Fury (1866) + 2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance (1866 - old generation). Also keep in mind, I wasn't able to make this ram work together well at 1866Mhz, so I ran it at 1333Mhz. I have been looking to see what the absolute cheapest brand new skylake system one can get is with like a H110 chipset + 2x 8GB vengeance old gen ddr + i5 6400. It comes to about 3500 NOK (418 USD). What I'm confused about is how I should compare old gen hardware to new gen. Since, yes you can get a cheap skylake system for that price, but it would be missing a decent motherboard (do people care about that? I know I do). What I was planning to sell my old stuff for was about 3200 NOK (375 USD). I also looked up used PC sales in the area (within 100 kilometers of where I live) and there isn't much, but there are a number of whole computers that are somewhat competitive. Those whole computers are more expensive, but you would get more for the money. I do also have a 60GB SSD I'd be willing to throw in if that's a good idea, but they're not great for keeping windows. I'm also not posting it on a public forum, I'm first publishing it to the university group of my study since some people had luck selling their hardware there fast, so it would be local. I'm also willing to help them build it if they don't know how. TL:DR What is this worth: old (i5 4670k, Asus Z97-AR, 16GB ram (4x4GB)), but feature rich system for with little local competition? And what are the things I should consider? Also, specific pricing might be a bit useless to suggest, unless you're from Norway yourself. I would prefer guidance on what to keep in mind. Thanks for any replies in advance. -
So I have an intel core i5 4690k and a Z97 pro gamer cooled by a Noctua NH-D15. I have set the CPU to run at 4.3Ghz@1.25volts stable and I was wondering whether this was a bad OC, since I have seen many people go to 4.5 or even 4.8Ghz @1.3 volts however when I put 1.32 volts through my CPU, I only got 4.4Ghz. Did I lose the silicon lottery?

Hello everyone, I am just looking around but im interested in building another PC, in the past i have always done AMD builds due to the cost, but now i would like to jump to intel. I can get my hands on an i7-4790k for pretty cheap. So since that chip is an LGA 1150 socket i would be looking at getting a Z97 board. But is Z97 still a good chip set? Opinions please! Thanks,

So I was on Intel ARK and i was looking at my motherboard's chipset (Z97), and it had a USB section and it was "Number of USB Ports" and it said "14." Does that mean I can only have 14 USB Ports readily available or I can use up to 14 USB Ports at once. Right now I'm using 6 USB 3.0 ports on my motherboard's I/O with 2 USB 2.0 ports currently unused., but lets say I wanted to use my front panel connectors on my case, and also note that I have 2 USB 3.0 ports on my case and another 2 USB 3.0 ports on my 5.25" card reader with 4 USB 2.0 ports that are currently not in used. Let's say I somehow manage to plug in a USB Device into all of those connectors, does that mean at I can use all of those USB Devices at once? My idea sparked is when my USB 3.0 Header on my motherboard broke (pins fell off, literally), and I saw USB 3.0 PCI-E cards with built in USB 3.0 headers built into the PCI-E cards. So can I get a USB 3.0 splitter and split that signal into my 5.25" card reader and my case's USB 3.0 header? I know that I will never use all those USB headers, but I was the functionality of being able to use any USB Port I can use on my computer. Thanks! http://ark.intel.com/products/82012 (Z97 Intel Ark page) P.S. Sorry for this lengthy thread, I made the grammar better than usual to hopefully please your reader's needs.

When I originally put together my rig with my i5-4460, I made sure to buy a Z97 motherboard so that in the future when I want more power, I can upgrade to a 4790K or the like and not have to switch platforms. I'll be using the extra power mainly for video encoding and rendering. However I've had several people now suggest that when I upgrade I go with a Xeon instead. Would that be a good choice? If so, could someone recommend a specific one? Thanks.

Hello from Toronto! So I have a 4770K in a Gigabyte Z87 OC Mobo but now my mobo is giving me a bunch of issues and just needs to be changed at this point. I don't want to have to upgrade my whole rig because I really cant afford it atm. I looked online at whats available for Z87/Z97 and there is not much options, very basic options available. So my questions is this. LinusCatTips Community. Do any of you have a Z87/Z97 MOBO I can buy off you that is comparable if not better then the one I currently Have? Preferably in working condition. Pls n Thanks sorry for posting

Hey folks. I'd like to get some opinions on replacing a z97 motherboard or making the jump to a ryzen build. My current system: 4790k ASUS z97 pro gamer DDR 3 1600mhz RAM. So this is my current predicament. two weeks ago i had one of my RAM sticks fail on me. it was a 16gb kit of Kingston hyper x 4 x 4gb 1600mhz. This left me down to 12gb and my system maxes out that ram when under my regular usage, gaming, working etc ( chrome is a RAM hog). Today i went down to 4gb then back to 8gb. i have a h100i v2 cooling the 4790k, i reapplied new tim cause it was running hot on idle( temps went from 46 c on idle to around 34-35), after that my dimm slots all seem to have died except DIMM 4. so i tore the pc down, checking individual ram sticks ( all 3 sticks was working) removed and reset the cpu into the socket and mow i have only 2 working DIMM slots 3 and 4. which puts me down to 8gb of ram. 16gb of ram as the sweet spot for me, never went over it or maxed it out. Now i'm wondering if i should replace the ram and the motherboard or jump to a ryzen build. I'm considering a ryzen 7 1700 with maybe an asus crosshair vi, gskill flare ram 16gb. The upgrade part seems better with a ryzen based build atm since the later versions of ryzen cpu will use the same board. i'm not a professional streamer or content creator but streaming and content creation is what i'd like to tinker with as a hobby of sorts and i ratehr have one pc that can game strream encode etc wthout loosing much performnc ein game, which seems like the ryzen build. I doubt my pc will hold out for the next gen of intel boards and cpus. PS i am hoping to go full custom loop at some point in the future. Opinions and suggestions are appreciated!

I thought about getting an m.2 SSD for a while now. Is my MSI z97 Gaming 3 good enough for something like the Samsung 960 evo? It says on the MSI website that it is PCI Express 2.0 x2 and 10 Gb/s. Will there be any problems with the lanes? I want to use 3 sata ports, the m.2 slot and a single gpu.

Just bought a second hand computer for my fiance and it worked totally fine... until i tried to change to a different mobo. It turns on all fans, LEDs, and keyboard. Just wont post. THere are no error beeps. I cannot confirm nor deny if the mobo has a error speaker or not. I do have an external one that came with first mobo. I already swapped psu from my good pc and the same problem persisted. I ordered another mobo just in case the mobo i swapped in was dead. could use some insight. i5 4690k asrock fatality z97 board 8gb ram 1600mhz corsair gs700 psu cooler master evo cooler 160gb hdd for OS 1tb hdd for everything else

New here. Hello all. I have just helped a friend build his newest gaming computer. I have a lot of experience in Windows Technology and Custom Builds. I sent him and about 18 others an email I put together to help them all make decision about moving away from the Z97 motherboards or upgrading to the Z17 motherboards. The Email Very interesting research and personal experiences since 2013 have led me to a quantifiable choice of what made a really nice Gaming Box between 2013-2015 and 2015-2017. Both scenarios below include 16GB of 1600MHz memory sticks. 2013-2015 Any Z97 Motherboard with an i7-4790K with excellent CPU coolers and a GTX 970 FTW 4GB or Radeon 370 4GB meant (still means) that Gamers were/are going to have great experiences with their 3D/HD games. 2015-2017 Any Z170 Motherboard with the i7-7700K CPU with an excellent CPU cooler with the GTX 1070 8GB FTW or the Radeon RX 580 8GB means fun times to be had with any PC game. It goes without saying that there are many mixes and matches of different CPU/s and GPU/s depending on one's budget and preferences. I am pointing out what didn't' break the bank

Hey all, So im planing on overclocking my 4690k in the next few weeks, i'm just waiting on a new power supply to arrive. I had a look over this video from Linus about it from 2014 and was just curious, he mentions bumping up the voltage if a test fails up to about a max of 1.3v. What increments should i do these voltage bumps in? Is increments of 0.05v too much? Not enough? On a related note, does ASUS' Ai Suite still pump too much voltage to the CPU with its auto overclocking feature or have they fixed it since this video aired? I already use Ai Suite for my fans. Any other tips for an overclocking noob is appreciated too Thanks

Hello everyone! I have the ASUS Z97-AR motherboard and I was planning to buy a M.2 SSD drive for it, Samsung SSD 960 EVO (http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-960-evo-m-2-250gb-mz-v6e250bw/) Until I did some research and realized my motherboard's M.2 slot uses PCI express 2.0 and only 2 lanes, so I wouldn't be able to get full speeds from my M.2 drive. Is it possible to get that full speed on my motherboard if I use a PCI-express 3.0 M.2 Adapter for the M.2 SSD? This is the adapter I was looking at (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboard-Accessory/HYPER_M2_X4_MINI_CARD/) I would also really appreciate any other tips on installing it (what I need to configure in the BIOS to install Windows on the M.2 drive, etc) Thanks!

okay so a little background first. I am currently working on a desktop that currently has me stumped as to what the issue is. First here are some specs: Gigabyte Z97X Motherboard I7-4790k (No OC) 16gb DDR3-1600 Asus Strix GTX970 4gb Seasonic 80 plus gold 750W semi-modular power supply Crucial 476 GB SSD Cooler master Hyper 212 EVO Forgot to add its running windows 7 home premium So the problem is that every time I run a stress test on the cpu with Aida 64 either on the CPU or IGPU the system crashes and restarts. there is no voltage or O.C. of any kind applied. as for the stress tests there is no thermal throttling observed and when the CPU is stressed in crashes in 2 seconds or less and when the IGPU is stressed it lasts 1-2 minutes before crash I was wondering if anyone had seen anything like this before. the system is only 3-4 years old and I am so far stumped any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.

Fellow Techies, My motherboard is giving me problems. I don't want the hassle of getting new hardware (cpu, and ram) so I am sticking with z97 chipset. What do yall think of Asrock's RMA services? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157505&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker, LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

So I have an Asus Maximus VII Ranger and I want to get a new M.2 Samsung 960 Evo. The problem is that my motherboard has an M.2 port but its limited at 10Gbit/s. That means 960 Evo's potential is wasted on my motherboard. I thought about getting an M.2 to PCI 3.0 x4 adapter (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Lycom-DT-120-PCIe-Adapter-Support/dp/B00MYCQP38) to get the maximum speeds of the M.2. But I need to know if the M.2 will be bootable. If anyone knows if my motherboard can boot from a M.2 from PCIE 3.0 x4? Please help, I have been searching for days and found nothing. Thanks in advance!!

Hello everyone, about two years ago I build my PC with an i7-4790K, an ASUS Z97-Pro Gamer and 32GB DDR3 HyperX Savage 1600MHz. I overclocked the CPU to 4.7GHz with an input voltage of 1.900V, CoreVoltage of 1.320V and a multiplier of 47 with a base clock of 100.0MHz. This setting was 24h prime95 stable, 24h AIDA64 stable and 24h XTU stable. About two weeks ago I rendered a recoded gameplay with Handbrake 1.0.7 in 1080p 60fps H.265. My computer crashed! It even crashes with a multiplier of 46 ... 45 looks stable What the duck is wrong with my Computer? The other specs of this machine: SAMSUNG SSD 950 Pro (NVMe SSD) GeForce GTX 980 Ti 600 Watt be quiet! Straight Power 10 CM Modular 80+ Gold Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 Bit (yes I actually bought this back in the day) Here is a picture of my PC:

To make a long story short my computer wouldn't post. I just bought brand new ram and a new motherboard and am still having the same problem. I have an i7-4790k, 16gb 1600mhz corsair vengeance LP (brand new), and asrock z97 fatality pro (brand new). I'm getting post code 55, which the manual says, 'The memory could not be detected'. I don't understand how that is possible because it's a new motherboard and a new set of ram. I tried putting the sticks of ram in by themselves and in each dimm slot but no luck. Could someone try and help me out please?

Evening! I just built a new to me PC with a 4790K, MSI Mpower Z97 Max AC and a GTX 1080. I got the system up and running but when i went to go into the BIOS to start overclocking i noticed all the voltages were extremely high. This of course set off alarms in my head and I decided to come to the aid of the internet for this one. I've tried lowering the core voltage to the stock voltage but after saving and restarting AIDA still shows it at 2.016. I'll post Imgur links screenshots from my BIOS at the bottom. I'm worried now about the longevity of the CPU (I understand i bought a used CPU, but it was a great deal and money has been tight) but now i want to correct the issue. Here is what I've done so far: Updated BIOS Cleared CMOS Tried manually entering in just core voltage to 1.250 Thanks in advance! Looking for a few suggestions before I send my board in for RMA. Here is the build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6wx6Z8 I have intermittent BIOS freezing upon loading issues since I originally purchased the board in January of 2015, but nothing a reset wouldn't fix. Over the past few days I had several random crashes/restarts, which I believe were related to my OC and the high summer temperatures (80+ F). I had tried manually reducing my OC but still was experiencing crashing during gaming randomly which resulted in several complete reboots. My 4790k has been OCed to 4.8Ghz 24/7 since it's original install. Long story short I went into BIOS and loaded optimized defaults to test and see if the OC was the cause of the restarts. Upon reboot I lost my RAID 0 which is no biggy. Attempted to load up the BIOS and it instantly freezes upon loading of the BIOS. I attempted to clear CMOS twice and even reflashed the BIOS using USB flashback twice and the BIOS still freezes instantly. Since I can not reconfigure my RAID I can not boot Windows. Since I can't enter the BIOS I also can't re-install Windows on a single drive since I can't change the boot order to USB I contacted ASUS and explained what had happened and they instantly told me to RMA the board for repair without even trying any other fixes over the phone. I am curious if anyone has run into this and found a fix. The only positive out of all of this is the board is still under warranty until January of 2018. Thanks in advance.
