  1. I wanted to create this little post for people who try to flash the Xiaomi Mi4i FIrst thing first, if you don't own this phone, keep it that way and stay a mile away from xiaomi phones that aren't stock, damn things are filled with ridiculous amount of bloatware. (which led me to flash it, first time btw) The steps are pretty straight forward like any other ROM but keep few things straight and it'll save you hours. (I am not responsible for bricking your phone) Get your hands on this toolkit to save you the trouble - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4i/development/tool-mi-toolkit-v4-root-twrp-stock-t3170607. Put your phone into USB debugging mode and fastboot (The info out there is outdated). Get your hands on Xiaomi stock ROM 6.5 or less (In my case I have version 9 and went through over an hour of bootloop figuring out what did I do wrong, all because I lazied out to install the older version). Connect your phone to your computer with device manager open and make sure it's detected properly (If not, look into it and get the right drivers or use a USB 2.0 port). Get twrp on your phone (Option 2, use the batch file made for you) remain within OS, let the toolkit boot your phone into fastboot for you (In my case doing it myself resulted the app from not detecting my phone, just like some videos stated, again outdated info). After successful TWRP installation your phone will still remain in fastboot, hold the pwr button for it to restart when it does for the split second make sure to press PWR + Vol Up to get into the new recovery mode (Another place I needed to spend over an hour figuring it out, for some reason MIUI was overwriting the new recovery mode every single time it booted (It will be fine after first successful attempt to get into new recovery mode). SAVE A BACKUP before doing anything, the option will be available within TWRP Under the wipe option do a factory reset (It will be the slider) go on installing the old MiUI rom, after installation do the factory reset again. Make sure to remain in TWRP and not setup the older MIUI that was flashed. Finally install the ROM you want to along with the Gapp files. You are set (I probably saved you hours of debugging and annoying bootloop). Gapp - ARM64, your ROM version of android and something smaller than stock. Stock or higher result in insufficient size error Root - Wasn't required
  2. Which one do you think I should get? Prices are pretty much the same.
  3. TL;DR- Friendly, quick-to reply customer service coupled with timely updates, shipping and communication for orders- FastTech has been an uneventful shopping experience- just how it should be for shopping for computers and gets my endorsement. Order History (time in PST): (I cannot confirm nor deny any actions, conversations, or correspondences that may or may not have happened below for obvious reasons): 18th July, 12:06PM: Created FastTech account 19th July, 11:52AM: Placed Order for Xiaomi Notebook Pro w/ DHL Express Shipping, gift-wrapping, and hardbox packaging 22nd July, 8:15PM: Contacted by FastTech to whether I wanted to change the declared value on the package; their message (email and ticket on their site) said if I didn't reply back in 24 hours, the package would be shipped with its true vale. 23rd July, 7:45AM: Replied back asking the declared value of the package to $400 (value of Xiaomi's cheapest notebook) 23rd July, 7:16PM: Followed up with FastTech's live chat about an update about changing the packages declared value since I hadn't heard back from their support yet, and was nervous about it shipping with a declared value of over $1,000. Was told that their colleague would look into it as soon as possible. 23rd July, 8:34PM: Received confirmation that the order would be shipped with my asked value. 24th July, 5:53AM: Received order shipping confirmation (tracking number not working though; website asked waiting for 2 days for it to activate though) 25th July, 6:46PM: Received updated tracking number via email and support ticket; my orders page was updated with a picture of the package and tracking number. 27th July, 10:10AM: Received by me. Pictures of Packaging: https://imgur.com/a/kAxDqI7 Proof of Purchase: https://imgur.com/a/qe4pD6l Notes on packaging: When initially opening the package- I wished there was more bubble wrap around the inside box, but given the laptop box itself was enclosed in soft packaging foam- it wouldn't have helped a lot anyways in hindsight and would only serve to increase the already expensive shipping costs. There was a minor dent in the exterior packaging, but but the innermost box for the notebook itself was undamaged. The notebook box itself still had it's original shrink wrap on and security stickers- it was brand new There was some odor when opening the box, but the actual package enclosed in shrink wrap was odor free. For $1.50, the hard box and gift wrapping was well worth it; moreso since if opened by customs- gifts are usually not dutied at all. The above is as objective and factual as I can get it to be, that all said, if you want to hear more about my experience as I delve into the subjective, read on! Why did I not want to choose FastTech Little to no customer reviews nor shopping experiences on high end electronics purchases. Website looked outdated/ sketchy with unmatched fonts and styles Missing as a recommended seller under the r/Xiaomi wiki Why did I choose FastTech? Some subreddits (mostly those around ecigs and vaping of all places, with some scattered posts on tech ones) held their customer service among the best in the industry for imports from China- both in responsiveness and professionalism. This was the biggest reason atleast for me for going through with them- I wanted someone to have my back incase something went wrong and not have to deal bad customer service with weeks in CS replies for shipping delays, damaged goods, etc.; and atleast from what I read- that wouldn't be the case with them, which was a huge relief over others like GearBest whom were plagued with horror stories around delays and non-responsiveness. Their return policies were far better than GearBest, BangGood, Aliexpress and I could pay through PayPal- if something went wrong and if they refused to cooperate- I could go through PayPal. I mean, to quote their website- "FastTech reimburses return shipping charges. Contact us for a RMA, within 5 days of delivery, and ship products back via the least expensive method."; aka- they cover back a 100% of shipping fees during that 5 day return window. Comparable price to GearBest, BangGood, and Aliexpress (not really a shopping factor for me; $25-50 here or there is a bit trivial when you're paying $1,000+ for a laptop), I'd rather pay more for better CS. They may or may not offer changing the value of packages that they ship as well as gift wrapping them, which means paying little to nothing at all in customs duty. I read horror stories of people being charged over $200 for duties which would be crazy expensive for a laptop, so this, if true, would also have been a strong reason for me going through with them. Their policies said they would work as a middleman between the customer and Xiaomi itself if anything goes wrong after 6 months and up until a year after the order date to fix the device. Other notes: Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my experience- it was uneventful and required minimal input from me after placing my order- just like how anything that was ordered online should be. Atleast from my experience with them- I feel confident recommending them to others and they're definitely going to be my go-to for ordering products in the future if the need to do so arises again. From staff that replied in quite literally hours in legible/ clear English to actually adding a photo of the box as it shipped- buying from them has been a really stress-free experience.
  4. I'm going to buy one but I'm not really sure which one is better? I do believe the g6 will be better
  5. I posted a thread asking for advice on which phone I should choose, out of all the phones that fit my budget the 2 that seem to be the best for their price and that fit my phone needs are the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite and the Huawei Mate 10 Lite. They're quite close, I've heard and read more positive comments on the 2 than negative, but I still have to choose 1. So far the pros compared to each other: A2 Lite: - Better support for the slightly better(?) CPU (SD 625 vs Kirin 659) - Higher pixel density (432ppi vs 403ppi) - Bigger battery (4000mah vs 3340mah) (important) - Dedicated SD card slot (dual sim + SD card vs sim card + hybrid slot) (important) - Android One (already has 8.1 and on time updates) Mate 10 Lite: - Better display (AMOLED vs IPS LCD) - Better camera (16+2MP vs 12+5MP) (or is it not much of a difference? I don't know how much the secondary camera affects the quality of depth perception) - Huawei ROM ? (I never had experience with Huawei, I find a clean Android great but I don't know if Huawei offers something that's worth buying their phone over another?) - Quality ? (again, never had a Huawei, but I've heard at least for their "10" series that it's great quality overall, yet I'm not sure if I can count this as a pro since people say Xiaomi's quality is just as good as any other at this price point) But the price difference...: - Xiaomi A2 Lite: 185 euros / $220 - Huawei Mate 10 Lite: 220 euros / $260 I'm still leaning towards the A2 Lite for the bigger battery, dedicated SD slot and Android One, but as I said the Mate 10 Lite seems like a solid choice as well though for $40 more I'm not sure that it's really worth it, still I'm here to hear other's opinions. Thanks in advance
  6. Is the face unlock on the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE good and does it work in the dark.
  7. Hello everyone I'm looking for a thin and light laptop that I will be learning to code on. I'm looking for a laptop that is below or close to 2kg weight (I will be carrying it with me daily), has SSD, is with Geforce 150MX or another card that can play some light games (like Darkest Dungeon,Divinity Original Sin 2 and other turn based games), at least 8gb RAM and it's preferable to have 8th gen(I would consider 7th gen if it's a great deal) i5 or i7 4 core or more CPU (or AMD equivalent), as well as at least 6-8 hour battery life on light usage. I have found a retail shop that sells and gives warranty to XIAOMI Mi Notebook Pro for 1000$ and the 16gb RAM version for 1200$, so I've been looking at that as a primary candidate, but I would like to consider other laptops and possibly lower price. I'm looking for general suggestions of laptop models near the same price, as I do live in Bulgaria and prefer to buy from a local retail or online shop (since they are required to give me 2 year warranty and no import or shipping fees). Unfortunately some popular choices around that price range are just not imported in my country or have insane prices like the Dell XPS line that for some reason has 2-3 times it's normal retail price. Another laptop manufacturer I can't even consider is MSI, since for some stupid reason MSI only imports their heavy (and most of the time expensive) gaming laptops in my country.
  8. Can you think of any other device at €300 point that has such insane specs or at least that rocks a full TDP sd845? Do you think this device will leave every other mid-ranger in dust including the best-till-today One Plus 6 ? https://www.theverge.com/2018/8/22/17760932/xiaomi-pocophone-f1-low-price-high-end-processor
  9. Mobile data won't work on Redmi Note 5. Dual SIM card slot. Two different network SIMs used. Neither works with mobile data. Tried rebooting phone. Don't have another phone to try SIM in
  10. I would Connect an eGpu to my Xiaomi Gaming Laptop but i dont know if it would work or would be worthwhile.
  11. Hey Guys! So I just watched the "WHY Buy a Chinese Phone?" and I had some concerns that, if one doesn't follow current news, on China specifically, wouldn't know this information. I'm not saying that this is true, but I have a concern, that LTT could possibly look into? China, under the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) is a Police State. Everything the Chinese Citizen does is monitored, everywhere they go, everything they do online, everything. Its Scary. One of the things that the CCP does, is control App's. When Linus brought up the Weather App, and rightly asked why the app wanted all the permissions it didn't need, it raised some red flags, and alarm bells for me, personally. LTT. One of the things you guys could do, that would be super useful is to look into the Chinese Android OS's, and if possible, look into how much personal information they are gathering, and sending back to Chinese Servers, and by extension, the Chinese Communist Party. I don't really want to get political. This is not the Political Post. The only thing I will say, is that there is a difference between the Chinese People, and China, and the Chinese Communist Party. It would be the Party that is doing this, not the People of China.

  13. So i wanna buy new phone but its hard to choose one, cuz there are many great options rn. I have found these 4 phones that got little more attention(for me atleast) than rest of options Nokia 6 2018 Huawei P Smart Xiaomi Mi A1(have seen rumors of an A2 model but idk if its true) Asus ZenPhone 5 ZE620KL (idk the price yet on this so its on big maybe for now) My current phone is Huawei p8 Lite and it has worked like a charm, havent been for repairs even tho i tend to drop it very often, has survived water(rain), but i want an upgrade cuz its starts to get a bit slower and the support is dead for it. Things i dont really care about in the phone: screen size, speaker quality(using headphones allways), battery life(cuz i think all of them can last a day), good camera quality(very rearly take pic and post them somewhere) and good gaming preformance(i need phone for regular usage), fast mobile internet(dont use 4g cuz its an extra cost). Things i need need it phone: durability(build quality from out side and inside aswell) cuz phone must last atleast 2 years, good costumer service, good software experience(want to try stock android but its not an big deal braker if i wont get it). Maybe u guys know other options for me to choose from(but not very cheap ones(minimum is 200 euros, max around 300) and no older phones). Thanks for help!
  14. After the recent launch of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, I have been hearing that Xiaomi will not officially release the new phone in the United States market, probably because of all the stuff the government is doing to get rid of Chinese phone companies. Anyway, I am considering importing the phone and I just wanted to understand the pro's and con's of buying an imported phone, if there are any. I know many Australians import cheaper phones, but obviously I'm not in Australia. Thanks!
  15. My last two phones had been form htc and huawei(current), htc died 1,5 year in usage(power button died, usb port died and at the end mb started to lag and died), i had warranty still on it but they didnt even bother to fix it, sent 3 times to warranty and it came back 2 weeks later, 1 week later phone again dead(all 3 times) and i just gave up and didnt even bother to go for 4th time. So i bought my huawei and its woring fine still(starting to get lil laggi at times but its normal cuz it will pass 2 year usage mark next month ). im considering to buy my next phone from Xiaomi(buget line up) Are the Xiaomi phones durable and will last 2 or more years? i cant find any good info anywhere. tnx for help! Update: just got an security pach update for my Huawei its 3 year old model and they still update it.

  17. XIAOMI BLACK SHARK coming with liquid Cooling???? How is it possible? on a tiny smartphone how is it possible?
  18. In a bid to give Razor a bit of competition (or add more PUBG mobile players I guess) Xiaomi has announced their plans for a Gaming Smartphone. This phone will be running a Snapdragon 845 with an Adreno 630 GPU and 8 GB of RAM and using a 5.99-inch IPS display with 97% coverage of DCI-P3 color space a 550 nit brightness. One of the features I thought sounded unique is that they supposedly have some sort of multi-stage direct contact liquid cooling system, which can supposedly drop CPU temps by 8-degrees C. Hot Hardware: https://hothardware.com/news/xiaomi-blackshark-android-gaming-phone-snapdragon-845-8gb-ram-128gb-storage Techspot: https://www.techspot.com/news/74149-xiaomi-launches-black-shark-compete-razer-phone.html Wonder if this would perform any better than the Liquid Metal mod that Linus did on the Razor Phone... Also wonder how good the battery life is on this given that they are going with a 4000 mAH. Although the 20 MP front and back facing cameras make for some impressive specs.
  19. Good evening Since no one helped me over at Tom's Hardware, I'm gonna try my luck here. A couple of weeks ago, my Lenovo A536 got stuck in boot loop and then got into recovery mode, which I haven't been able to leave, and my attempts to flash the OS only bricked it completely. I've been looking for a new phone since then. I don't want another low-end device, so I'll increase my budget. After many hours spent on comparing various devices, reading reviews and going through benchmarks, I was decided to buy the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, which by their words should be available in my country by the next month. However, yesterday I've stumbled upon HTC U Ultra. According to what I've read, it's an unsuccessful flagship from the last year. It scored about 170K points in AnTuTu, 50K more than RN5 with its 120K. At about 8000 Czk (400$) in a reputable store, it is slightly more expensive than RN5, which when launched should be available from 6500 Czk (325$). I can't decide which one to buy. There are a couple of things I'm concerned about in case of the U Ultra. I have BT headphones, which support connection through 3,5mm connector in case I ran out of battery, so while I'm not happy about the connector's absence, I can get over it. What I'm more concerned about is the battery life. I don't expect the quad-core SD 821 to be very power efficient, so I don't know if the 3000 mAh battery will be sufficient, especially after some time. Another thing is OS updates. One of the things I like about Xiaomi is their support even for older devices. According to an article that I've read a few days ago, they're still updating phones up to 6 years old. On the other hand, almost every time I see a post by Huawei on Facebook, someone is complaining that once they release a new generation of smartphones, they almost immediately stop updating the previous one, and for example, the A536 I had before only received two small updates over the two and a half year I had it, so I don't know if I can trust HTC in this case. As for the rear camera, I found a few photos taken with both devices, and I think I like the pictures shot by RN5 a little bit more. I honestly don't care about the front one. Which one do you think I should buy? 400$ is a little bit more than I first intended to pay, so if you think the U Ultra is not that much better for the extra money, I'd rather go for Redmi Note 5. Thank you for all advice. PS: Feel free to unleash the full power of your inner grammar nazis upon me. I'd like to improve my English, so if I made any serious mistakes, feel free to smash them over my head.
  20. Helo, Currently I am on my trusty Xperia Z1 but it starts to show age (lagging, parts falling apart, battery capacity). As I am on tight budget I was considering Xiaomi redmi 5 plus. What appeals to me: -big 6inch screen -4000 mah battery -Fast fingerprint scanner What I am worried about: -Is snapdragon 625 even an upgrade on snapdragon 800? -is xiaomi camera much worse than Sony z1? (camera is not a dealbreaker but I don't want absolute crap) Please post your thoughts, mainly if this is even an upgrade, or if I should stay away from that device. (I am aware of missing b20 lte).

  22. Hi. I just bought myself a google home mini and I wanted to have my first integration of smart home devices to use google home mini. I tried to look for a good priced smart desk lamp, and the only one that came up to me was Xiaomi's yeelight smart led lamp. However, I don't know if the yeelight is supported by google home and I do Not know if it will listen to my voice commands. Please, if anyone have anyidea on this, please reply asap!
  23. Hello, i am looking for Xiaomi Notebook Pro alternatives, meaning the same specs or at least similar ones. Price range should be about 1100 cad or 860 usd. Please note, that the battery runtime is essential and so is the 8th gen intel cpu. Dedicated GPU, Precision Trackpad, Alloy/ Magnesium body and a NVMe SSD are required as well. I would be surprised if you know any device with a similar price tag. Kind regards
  24. Hey guys, am considering buying either the xiaomi mi 5 3gb ram or mi aa 4gb ram, both are amazing phones i know, in my country there is a flash sale for mi 5 so its cheaper than a1 by about 40 bucks now, I am torn between the 5.5 inch display, audio dac and stock android vs the ex flagship processor, fast charging and better build quality, what do you guys think? I don't play much games, my usage is mainly media consumption, chatting, social media, and web browsing. I do a lot of multitasking switching between apps.
  25. Hi. I have a Xiaomi mi a1 phone. I have android 8.0 oreo on it. I saw a lot of videos about the oreo's new features, one of them is that you can make a little window for your youtube videos, while you are running other app. I can't do this on my phone, maybe i should enable somthing. Sory for my English and sory if this is a wrong place for my topic.
