Got my hands on a old dual Xeon system. HP Z800. I used it 5 years ago, and I remember all the memory slots worked. Now both CPU 0 and 1 (both X5675s) say that memory in slot 1 is not working, but I've tested the same memory in other slots and all is 100% ok. Was thinking bent pins, but seems odd that both CPUs have a error, on exactly the same DIMM slot. Help appreciated!

Hi, I was wondering, do you guys think it's a good idea to buy a used workstation? I know a company here in Japan, with a shop in Osaka, that sells tons of used computers. Among them, quite a few Dell or HP workstations. Deals are often interesting, start rather low for 4C/4T or 4C/8T Xeon + 16GB Ram a Quadro and new SSD (about ¥40,000~¥50,000), up to quite a lot more for a Dual 10C/20T Xeon + 128GB Ram a Quadro and new SSD. They also offer a 3 years warranty, which is totally unheard of around here for second-hand computers. My worry is, well, for what I know all these computers might have been ON 24/7 for years and could just stop working anytime. Can't make up my mind. It's tempting, but is it really such a good idea to go the second-hand path...?

Hi, hi have been trying to get a Xeon phi Coprocessor card working in a system and I have run into a road block, I don't have the Drivers for the card. I believe I need the intel mpss-3.8.6-windows.zip however if you go to intel's website the download doesn't seem to work. if any one has the drivers or can tell me were to find them that would be much appreciated. All help or intrigue welcomed

I found these cheap parts that, in theory, should perform very well for the price. Is it a good idea? I play very cpu-bound games like Beamng.drive, and Fortnite (which has great multi core optimization) would this be a good budget build? (Gpu and others will be determined after)

I was scouring eBay for some stickers and I had come across a Xeon inside sticker, but it also curiously came with a LGA 771 socket to LGA 775 socket "adapter" in order to xeon mod it. Is this a real thing that people do? Is it a load of bunk or would that actually work? Listing I am talking about. There are plenty of listings like this, offering both a sticker badge and an adapter. Seems super strange. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-LGA-771-to-775-Adapters-for-Xeon-Mod-with-one-Intel-Xeon-Inside-sticker/331590180430?hash=item4d34509e4e:g:BN0AAOSw9N1ViuGs

Could I just buy 2 of these cpu's and have a 12 core system for pretty cheap? (Not including the price of ram, storage, gpu, etc)

Have an Gigabyte GA-G31M-SL2 LGA775 mobo in a secondary PC. Replaced an old celeron for a Xeon E5430 in it. On the old hard drive it booted win 7 with no problems. Formated the hard disk and installed a fresh win 10 on the drive with my main rig, moved the hard drive back expecting to boot, but it won't, swapped the cleron and it works. Will the microcodes and a flashed bios help?

I wanted to replace my old synology Nas with a decent server for my movies and some game servers for both of my sons. I decided to put everything in one Maschine. So I bought a used mobo/CPU/RAM combo of eBay. I bought a supermicro x9drl-if 2x Intel Xeon e5 2670v1 and 4 x 8gb 2rx8 12800e in a set. the vendor insured me that everything worked so I bought it. Now the to problem. System won’t boot. No video Signal - can’t see proper post code only Buzzer code. FullSizeRender.mov Sound is in slowmo No pci card attached. only via onboard vga connected to Monitor Onboard video is enabled via pin bridge I Tried to boot with 2 cpus 4 sticks, 2 cpus, 2 sticks, swapped them, and cleared cmos multiple times. Booted with only 1 cpu and 2 sticks and Switches cpus and ram Checked if the ram is in the correct slot everytime I can’t check if mb, cpu, ram is broken because I only have what I bought. The fans are spinning mobo led is blinken PDF is the mobo manual Im not a professionell. Does anyone have any ideas? Greeting from Germany MNL-1298.pdf

Budget (including currency): 250 usd Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Davinci Resolve, Adobe Photoshop, OBS Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): GTX1050TI, Cooler Master Masterbox 5 (build would be around 350 including the graphics card and the case.) These parts we have received: Processor: Xeon E5-2650 V2 8 Cores 16 Threads 2.6 ghz 3.5ghz Turbo: 30 USD Motherboard: Dell T Precision 3600 Server Board: 45 USD Ram: 32 GB Crucial DDR3 ECC Memory @1600mhz for Dell Precision T3600: 65 USD Cooler: Enermax ETS-T40 Fit up to 200W TDP Air Cooler for Lga 775/1366/1150/2011: 29 USD These parts we are still waiting on: Storage: Kingston 240gb SSD Sata 3 2.5": 26USD Western Digital 1TB Blue 7200RPM Sata 6 Gb/s: 40usd 8in 24 Pin ATX 2.01 Power Extention cable Atx (m) to Atx (f): 6 Usd 6 Pin PCIE M to Female Power Extension Cable: 3.5 USD Part we need to return: EVGA 500B 80+ BRONZE PSU: 47usd Parts in consideration after the PSU return: Antec EA-650 Green 12V 80+ Bronze 650W Psu: 48 usd Hurdles about this build: We will need to do something similar to what Linus did in scrapyard wars with the Lenovo pcs where we have to rewire the power supply to work on the proprietary pinout, luckily someone on the Hardware Canucks forum named Enaberif has already successfully done this and has provided a pinout map of the connector The ECC memory only works with a 630W + PSU from the server it was supposed to be in, so unless we have a way to ignore the ECC requirement, we will need to ship back the PSU we bought on ebay to find something with a 650W+ 80+ bronze rating that will still fit in our budget. (has to be around or the same price we paid for the 500W unit). Soldering Iron Required, I do not own one myself, but I have a friend in town in one who will let me use theirs, so additional cost for solder is also something to keep in mind. If anyone can I need recommendations on any old PSUs [pref with an 80+bronze rating] that they could recommend within the budget of 48-50 usd that have the ketchup and mustard cables so that I wouldn't feel bad destroying a modern psu for this, thank you in advance!

Alright, this isn't really the right forum, however, everywhere else I posted it my request got ignored. The point of my question that I would like to pull the trigger on a 1650 Super I saw on sale for 200$ Canadian. I will be recording gameplay with OBS 1080p 60fps (Silder's Basic Shaders). I am asking this question because this processor is very old and the single core/thread performance is extremely important in Minecraft. Any other specs and details will be listed below- 48 Gigs of 1333mz ram Current GPU is a NVS Quadro 290 (barely get 720p 30 fps with it) 1100WATT PSU (HP z800) Dual CPU Configuration (totaling 12 cores 24 threads) And hey, I might record some other games for my YouTube channel. There are no other external resources and or videos about this configuration and processor, henceforth me reaching out to you guys. Thanks, xniqht

Hello, i ordered an MFS2600KI and i wanted to put my 2 e5 2640 in it with my Ram wich i already own. I then saw it dosn't have any kind of normal Power Connection. Is there a way to Connect a normal PSU to it with an adapter or maybe buy a PSU with those connectors. Maybe buy a chassis with those connectors. Any help is appreciated.

First of all, I don't know if this is the right category for this post, but here goes. My problem, as stated in the title, is that I have more Xeons than I know what to do with. I have listed a few on Ebay, but they haven't sold well. Apparently, there isn't a huge m,arket for used Xeons. So, with that in mind, what should I do with them? I would like to make some money on them, and to recoup my investment I only need to sell them for $5 each.

Budget (including currency): 2600 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Virtualization, testing, web, encoding/decoding, 3d modeling, financial apps Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I bought a new machine in 2015. It fried before I had a chance to use it, was not covered by a warranty for the particular issue it had, and consequently I'm using a desktop from the 2007 (era). I do work using heavy applications requiring ECC, and I like the solid performance of Intel (despite it's recent criticisms). I've been looking for a Xeon CPU with a manufacturer warranty (No tray CPU's) at or below $2600. The prices seem to be totally inconsistent or all non existent. There are similar prices for Xeon's ranging from v2 to Xeon Gold, despite huge disparities in performance and special instructions. The only option with the characteristics I need that I've found, so far, is an E5-26xx V4, at $2.6K. I bought it, but haven't taken delivery of it yet. It seems like it will meet or exceed my needs, but I can see so many newer CPU's with similar core counts at or around this price. I have to think that for that price there should be something newer available on the Xeon platform with the same core count on a single socket. I'm surprised to not see the internet flush with retail warrantied CPU's, since American's have endured so much economic hardship over the last 7 to 10 years. One would expect there to be a surplus. Also because 14nm on any platform is cheap for Intel to produce by this point. Where am I not looking?

Hey guys, just got delivery of a E5-2690 (Socket 2011) with a TDP of 135w. Looking to put this into my server and replace the stock 2011 Intel CPU cooler already in there. . . any recomendations for 24/7, super quiet coolers for this kind of power? Was looking at the Arctic Freezer 34 CO, but with a maximum TDP of 150w I'm afraid the CPU will run too hot?

Budget (including currency): 600-1000$ Country: Russia programs or workloads that it will be used for: Ubuntu 20.4. processing large files/tables in RAM Disk Other details: I built a workstation: Deepcool Matrexx 70 HUANANZHI X99 T8D Intel Xeon E5 2678 V3 SSD 2.5 64gb HDD 3.5 1000gb RAM 64gb Hynix 14900R 1866Mhz I spent on buying the necessary components 550$, some I had or made here are some test results: text files will be processed in RAMDisk and for me the main parameter is the memory bandwidth and high processing power of the processor when processing this data, about 40 gigabytes at a time, and hundreds of terabytes of such data I understand that 3950 and older will be able to show a higher result, but there is lower memory bandwidth and the price is already several times higher, what do you think, what other build options are available for my needs

I'm starting on a new build for a bare metal hypervisor, which will be running the following VMs : 1. pfSense (ISP Bandwidth - 50 Mbps symmetrical, IPSec enabled) --> 2GB RAM 2. Windows Server 2019 (DC/DNS/DHCP/BlueIris) --> 8GB RAM 3. NextCloud Community Edition --> 4GB RAM 4. FreePBX (4 Extensions). --> 2GB RAM Blue Iris running 8 cameras @ 4k, motion detection enabled, direct to disk recording, no transcoding. I'm on a tight budget, hence I have only two options : 1. Xeon E5-2678V3 (12 Cores) / Huananzhi X99-F8 + 32GB DDR4 ECC 2. Ryzen 7 1700X (8 Cores) / ASUS Prime B550-PLUS + 32GB DDR4 ECC Both the CPUs have nearly equivalent all cores performance, however single thread performance of 1700X >> E5-2678. I know more physical cores are better than faster cores, but since I'm running only 4 VMs, I was wondering that higher speed cores might just turn out to be better in this case. I need this build to be stable, since this will be located on a farmhouse that my family owns, far away from my house, and it will be primarily for monitoring the area for intruders, a]nd I am also a little bit skeptical about running all of this on a chinese x99 motherboard. What would you guys recommend ? Budget (including currency): ~$250 Country: India Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Hypervisor

I have an old i7 920, 4gb ram, 1tb hdd, R9 280x video card(3gb variant) I want to edit videos in davinci resolve (because I like the program and it's free) but it's painfully slow like I can't even put a video on the timeline without two "not responding". I recently found a xeon x5675 6core 3.06 ghz for 50$ (240 ron because I live in Romania) and it's compatible with my motherboard. Should I buy it with another 8 gb of ram? Like I want to edit 720p / 1080p with a simple timeline. Srry for bad english because it's not my first language.

so i was browsing aliexpress for getting deals, and this seemingly motherboard combo caught my attention, it included a xeon e5 2420(6 cores 12 threads), motherboard, 8gb ddr3 ecc ram, for 55$, kinda sounded too good to be true, atleast compared to the local prices here in my country, i would like to see what you guys think about it, as im ready to buy it, but dont want to pull the trigger before knowing what im buying. oh also the shipping is free link: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33029748040.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.14504c4dJFgbjU also this is my first ever post on linustechtips.com, so dont be surprised if i do mistakes
