I found a neat CPU on ebay, an Intel Xeon E7-8880 v3. On Intel Ark it says this CPU is compatible with an FCLGA2011 socket. So with the help of Google I tried to find a mainboard, which is compatible with this CPU. As it is a server CPU, I tried looking for a mainboard that specifically lists it as compatible in order to be sure it would work. However, I was unable to find one. Does anyone here know which mainboard would be compatible with this CPU (ideally something consumer-like with one socket) or how and where to efficiently look for that? Best regards El_Brodini

Until I get the parts for my build I'm leaving the dual cpu precision t5500 I picked up to cannibalize for parts intact for amusement. Steadily I've been raising it's R23 cinebenches: cleaning heatsinks, cleaning fans, removing the hard drive rack thing, yanking out every dummy panel & useless part. Now I've upped the scare by 70 points (not insane but not nothing) & made jumps in single core performance dropping my mp from x14.8 to x14.45 (12core system). So it's not thermal throttling, but it's downclocking CPU 1 because it's heatsink is half the size of the heatsink on CPU 2. Since it's my donor PC I don't want to invest in it, but is there anything else free/creative (I have tools, time, & scrap materials galore) that I can do to it to see how I can raise the benches higher? Rn my best idea is the disconnect the primary cooling fans from the motherboard & over power them separately from another power source (ie. A couple nine volts) & see if that spins them faster. Anyone with experience is welcome to weigh in but someone with Xeon, thermal, or precision tower experience would be kick ass to hear from.

To my understanding, a Franken Cluster is a cluster of dissimilar devices used to run server tasks but because of their lack of uniformity making it work is harder & less out the box. Has anyone made a franken-cluster/server? Would those who have recommend it? When I finish building my PC I'll have a dual Xeon cpu tower with ECC ram, an old laptop with just 1gb of ram, an old Android phone, & possibly a few other used computers. Is there a worthwhile way to tether such an amalgamation? This is a curiosity question

I have a Dell Precision T5500 workstation with dual Xeon X5690's, 8gb ddr3 ECC RAM, & a Quadro P4000. I bought it for the Quadro to put in my dream workstation build with a Ryzen 9 5950x or a Threadripper. But, looking around ebay, selling the cpu cores is @ max $130, the PSU $30, the disk drive $20, the Mobo is useless, idk who'd buy the RAM, and the case is worth less than it'd cost to ship it. that leaves 3 options: 1. Part it out & make money where I can 2. Keep it as a server & build a home network 3. Take other suggestions from the internet Internet, 1, 2, or 3?

Hello, I'm trying to build a PC to beat my precision 7500 series laptop, it runs a 6 core Xeon, 16gb ddr4, & quadro p1000. I bought a t5500 tower for the gpu, a Quadro p4000. The tower has old dual 6 core Xeons & 8gb ddr3 ECC RAM. I'd like to know what programs are good for benching these sorts of systems, most benches are gaming oriented & do not appreciate dual CPUs or ECC RAM.

Hey guys, I had the idea of building my own low budget server so I went into the google-jungle to look for a wild low budget CPU, but I couldn´t find a single answer to my question. A couple of friends and me are playing ARK on a private cluster so I had the idea to build a small server instead of paying virtual servers every year.(520€/year) In theory this server should do the same work for less money. And of course there is way more potential to do other stuff then just paying for one game. Someone would say that the energy costs are to expansive, but if I pay less then 500€/year for it I can deal with it. Is there any alternative for more performance or less costs? And which one should I take, finally? Please excuse my bad English I´m not using it very often. Budget (including currency): 400-800 Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: multiple VM, some game servers, maybe TS Other details Dual Intel Xeon E5-1650 v2 (6 Cores, 3,5Ghz) 100-200€ dual cpu socket Mainboard 150-200€ 8x8 DDR3 Ram 150-200€ or Intel I7-9700k (8 Cores, 3,6Ghz) 290€ B365 Board?(not sure about that) 70€ 32GB DDR4 Ram, 2666Mhz 150€

I have just finished my server build with the following hardware: SuperMicroX10SRA-F (rev 1.01) Intel Xeon E5-2680 V4 Kingston Server Premier RAM 2x8GB sticks of 2400 MHz Reg ECC CL17 288 pin PC4 (Kingston KSM24RS8/8MEI) attached according to instructions in first two blue slots DIMMA1 and DIMMB1. be quiet! Pure Power 11 600W As I finished the build, I tried the first boot. Everything seemed fine but I am not getting any video output. I have tried two options: 1) connecting motherboard output from VGA to the monitor (via VGA/VGA cable + VGA/HDMI adapter), that doesn’t work; 2) I have attached PNY Quadro P1000 and connected monitor via Mini Display Port/HDMI cable. That doesn’t work either. The VGA jumper is set by default to 1-2 (ON). The error display was reading: “00” I tried disconnecting everything unnecessary from the MOBO including SATA drives. I have also tried to reduce RAM to just one stick in the first blue slot. I also tried to reset CMOS. None of these attempts worked. Now after the CMOS clear the error display reads: “62 - installation of the south bridge runtime service” After this I contacted Supermicro technical support and based on their suggestion I resit the CPU and checked the pins (they are fine). I also tried to run the system with no RAM. I got alarm and error "53" by doing that. But at least it fixed the error 62 and I am back to 00 with no video output still. Does anyone have an idea what is going on and how could yo I solve the issue? Thank you in advance guys for any ideas!

Hey, does anybody know if i could put a Xeon 8124M in a Dell Precision Tower T7820 Workstation. Both are socket LGA3647, but the Xeon 8124M does have a lot of compatibility problems. Since these Xeons are off-roadmap its pretty hard to find any info on them. Me again, I found a good deal on some quadro K4000 GPUs, and I was thinking about putting two of em in my folding machine. Would two K4000 GPUs outperform a GTX 1050 Ti or should I look for something a bit more modern? I also use this rig for other stuff like modeling and rendering. It's got two Xeon E5-2680v2 CPUs and 32GB of 1600 Mhz DDR3.

My Asus Sabertooth X79 shipped with an older .rom BIOS that doesn't support the Xeon E5-2650 I'm trying to install. The support page says that BIOS number 4502 is necessary for my CPU to be supported, but I can only get to BIOS number 1203 because it is the last .rom revision. BIOS number 4502 is a .cap BIOS file. The support page mentions .rom to .cap converter software in the driver section in BIOS-UTILITIES, but no such software is to be found. Needless to say, the system hasn't posted yet. Is this software archived anywhere else, or was there any reason why it was removed from the Asus website? Please help! CPU: Xeon E5-2650 MOBO: Asus Sabertooth X79 RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) A-TECH DDR3-1600 PSU: Corsair RM 850x GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Current BIOS: Rev. 1203

I had been using a 7 Years Old Lenovo Thinkstation. I know if you want respect at LTT you need have something $2000 or more - but hey this is my story and I am sticking with it. An awesome machine - Ultra Quiet, No Heating Issues working superbly. Light use mostly rendering family home videos, running a pi-hole in docker and etc. Xeon 6 Core, 48GB RAM, 1 256SSD, 2 x 1TB HDD, 2GB Graphics (Graphics was the only thing I upgraded 3 yrs go from the 1GB stock card). I dont remember what it was. But nothing special a $80 Nvidia 710 if i recall correctly Till a recent power outage and fluctuation created a problem and I could not get the PC to power up. It cycles powers but immediately shutdowns. So I decided to replace the PSU - ordered the EVGA 600W PSU - there was a connector mismatch the the MoBo has a 3 power connectors and one of them is a four pin 2x2. So Question 1). Are there any adaptors that I can use to convert one of the spare connectors to this 2x3 2). I started thinking how to low cost upgrade this - i.e. swapping the Mobo wit a dual xeon Mobo that can take the grpahics card? or getting a newer Gen Mobo and commercial shipset - Don't know how to solve this and need Idea and help. I would not want this computer to go to scrap given how good it was and how well it was serving me till this recent power issue.

source Sourcing Xeon W-1250 for CAD Workstation build.
Kuala97 posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Budget (including currency): £500 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AutoCAD Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Boss wants me to build systems based off an existing system we have, it has a Xeon W-1250 in it and I can't for the life of me source this chip from anywhere! Does anyone have a reliable vendor for these server/workstation cpu's? or someone point me in the right direction of the consumer equivalent. I've put budget 500 for the cpu, not the system. -
Budget (including currency): $400 Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General visual workstation and light gaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'm looking to find out whether or not X5690 is compatible with X58 chipset. I'm trying to upgrade a 10+ year old Alienware Area 51 into something that would still be a fairly powerful workstation my today's standards. An HTML doc is attached outlining my current plans for upgrade under $400 Computer Upgrades.html

Hi. I losing time&mind with Mb and my endless boot problem. I read that maybe bootlooping problem is too weak PSU with 450W. I cannot get MB to boot, I try ram check, reset on that&another way, I try even to reset with putting together 1 and 6 pin on bios chip. It's always the problem of money. For my mind is safer to get MB to servis and fix the problem. In Slovenia is working hour 40eu. Without parts...Any suggestions? I also try all the Google tips&tricks... If I cannot fix the problem, I look for new or used MB. I like 2 MB. One is ASUS P6T and other is MSI P67 C45 B3... If u could choose, which one u choose?

Budget (including currency): Roughly under $5,000 USD with Windows server 2019 License Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Microsoft Remote App Other details: Looking at either Dell Poweredge Rack server or HPE Rack Server. Was hoping to get away with a cheaper Xeon Silver since this will only be supporting say 5 users up front. Maybe down the road somewhere in the ballpark of 30 users. The remote app will only be using one App so storage shouldn't be an issue. Maybe 2 SSD's in a RAID 1 or 4 HDD's in RAID 10. Not sure how much storage is used for each user but the App we are using saves all data back on server. As for RAM I think 64GB will be plenty even if we hit 30 users. Expandability isn't out of the question especially if 30 users will need more than 16 logical cores to operate. Is the rule of thumb 1 logical or physical core per user? 2 sockets isn't a bad idea if that is the case. For Reference: I'm not setting up this server as a remote desktop machine for thin clients. This will only be used for running our warehouse management software through a windowed app. Thanks for any advice.

So, i was thinking.... Can get around 4.2ghz after doing OC on a cheap Xeon E5 2470 V2 for around 50$ from AliExpress or Alibaba? IS IT POSSIBLE? Or should i just go with RYZEN 3 3300x instead? Stuffs I'll use the PC for- *Photo editing *Video editing *Gaming *Screen recording
