I have an AsRock x399 professional gaming with a 1920x. I am having problems detecting two mechanical hard drives when in the bios, as well as in os. I have one sata populated with a 128 gig ssd and it reads and mounts perfectly. The drives in question and two 10 TB easystore external drives who have been taken out of the enclosure when new and installed. I had them installed in a server for a quick test of drives in a drive pool raid array. The drives mount and appear on the server when I take them out. But when I put them in my pc, nothing. Also I try the original external drive bay and they show up as well. I have updated to the latest BIOS I am pretty sure the chipset is up to date. Could the drives being used in a raid cause them not to show up on the separate machine. If you need any other info just ask.

Hey guys, I got a new M2 SSD as I needed some space for games and video rendering. The installation turned out to be a nightmare for me, lost 3 years data I'm using a X399 board (MSI Gaming pro carbon AC) with Threadripper 2950x, I had a 2TB Seagate SSD with my OS installed and another 1 TB SATA HDD. After I installed my M2 onto my PC, it was not showing up in the drives (though detected in Device Manager). Thought I need to enable bios settings to enable M2 and followed steps in this MSI official video for X399 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MClnWJ9mws The video showed BIOS settings to enable "Windows 10 WHQL Support" and change SATA mode to "Raid" from AHCI. Little did I know doing this needs me to re-install my OS (as it involved deleting arrays and creating new array). I ended up re-installing my Windows 10 in my new M2 SSD. But, post OS installation, my SSD and SATA HDD are not getting detected. I installed Raidxpert2 tool and found out my new M2 SSD is being red-flagged with type as "LEGACY". I have options to Create new arrays with my other SSD and SATA HDD. Now I have the below questions: 1) Why is my M2 SSD red-flagged with type as "LEGACY", What went wrong here? 2) Creating new array from Raidxpert2 is giving an option to select array type as Volume(JBOD), RAID0, RAID1, which one should I choose? My primary use is gaming and video encoding/rendering. If I choose Raid0/Raid1, its allowing a min of 2 drives to be selected and mixing SSD with SATA HDD isn't an optimal way right? 3) Do I really need SATA mode as RAID for M2 SSD to work with X399 ? Which one among RAID/AHCI would yield more performance? 4) Since, I started my win10 installation fresh, please let me know if there's a better way to format my drives and use them all together. I'm planning to add more M2 SSD's in the future and would ideally want a smoother onboarding. PS: I have UEFI enabled in BIOS as well. Thanks for reading through my long post and would appreciate any ideas. Regards!

I might have chosen wrong CPU, but I always wanted a Threadripper. But need save some money for it since I likly go to try Alphacool system than. (because easy to extent and connect to each other.) But as you can see on Image 4 I need bit more cooling. Some one might tips for good timings for the Corsair Rams?

I have 2x G.Skill 32GB (2x16GB) Trident Z RGB DDR4 3000MHz CL14 (F4-3000C14D-32GTZR) - 128GB in total. Which x399 motherboard will most likely support this RAM? What about the boards from Asrock (Taichi or Fatal1ty? Any input is much appreciated!

Hey guys, a friend of mine and I started to build his Worksation today. Everything went fine, until the final assembly. Specs: Threadripper 1920X Asus Prime X399-A 64GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-2666 Quad Kit 2x Gigabyte Vega 64 Corsair H150i Pro 1200 Watt Corsair HX1200 I installed the necessery parts (MB, RAM, CPU, Cooling) and plugged everything in and checked if everyting would start up (no monitor yet), everything went fine, fans moving, LEDs on etc. After the final assembly and proper cable management everything still went fine, but I couldn`t get a picture (no BIOS) and the DRAM-Debug-LED was on. I did some troublehooting with the RAMs and ended up in a bootloop, where everything lid up and started running for like five seconds (fans) and went off again, still no picture. I tried different RAMs and different slots, checked the PSU connection but no success. A CMOS clear wouldn't help also. When I dis- and reattached the CPU, the PSU appearently died, because after that, nothing would happen, except for the MB RBG-LED lighting up. I'll change the PSU as fast as I can, but IMO that doesn't explain the first problem. Since the PC is at my friends house, I currently can't get any pictures... Can anyone help me?

Hey there, I'm building an AMD Threadripper 2950X build with an Aorus Xtreme X399 motherboard. I've heard that "Threadripper loves fast memory" so have been looking at 32GB kits in the 3200MHz to 3600MHz range, though I'm not actually sure how true that statement is. The 3600MHz kit with the best XMP timings I've found is the Patriot Viper 3600MHz with 16-18-18-36, which is better than the timings of some 3200MHz kits. Problem is this RAM isn't on the QVL for my motherboard, and therefore I'm not entirely sure whether it would work. A slightly weird note is that on the motherboard specs page it states: "Support for DDR4 3600+*(O.C.) / 3466+(O.C.) / 2933 / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 MHz memory modules * Recommend to use a 1st Gen. Ryzen™ Threadripper™ processor to achieve 3600MHz (O.C.) speed." I don't really understand what this means, I would have assumed a 2nd gen threadripper would be able to handle higher frequency ram better than as 1st gen chip. I've seen a review at Hexus of the motherboard which had RAM overclocked to 3800MHz stable using a 2990WX. Can anyone clarify what this statement means, and suggest whether the Patriot RAM listed above should be compatible with the Aorus Xtreme X399 board? The Patriot RAM seemed to have the highest frequency with the lowest timings from what I could find. Are there any other RAM kits that you would suggest instead? I was looking at the Aorus 3200MHz RAM as each 2x8GB kit also includes 2 "dummy modules" to fill up the remaining dimm slots on the motherboard which would look nice (and match with the Aorus mobo), but these add about £50 extra per 16GB kit compared with comparable memory from other manufacturers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a new build that I've been working on and am having trouble getting it to power-on (parts list here, though I'm currently trying to boot it with a 1900x installed, in order to flash the BIOS). Background: After assembling everything, I was able to get the computer to turn on, but the CPU led was lit and got an error code of EE (or 33, not sure). I then noticed that the 24 pin connector had a wire loose (3.3v line) and would not snap back into place. I received a replacement from EVGA and ordered a set of CableMod cables, but then the issue turned into the computer not powering on at all. Assuming the MoBo was injured, I RMAed it (Amazon's return policy is pretty great), but the issue persists. Current status: If I disconnect every power cable from the motherboard and jumper the 24-pin connector, the PSU powers on just fine (PSU fan spins, etc.) and I'm able to run the pump via it's molex connector. However, when the 24-pin and CPU cables are connected to the motherboard, it will not boot even to the point of the PSU fan spinning up (even using the on-board power button), regardless of whether I use the new EVGA cable or the CableMod cable. I've even tried connecting the CPU power cables into the motherboard and jumping the 24-pin with no luck. Is this a weird form of PSU death, or am I missing something? Might a small spark from the loose wire killed something in the PSU?

Hey guys, long time lurker first time poster here So it's tax season and I'm about to spend some money to upgrade (read: replace) my current rig that's served me fantastically for the past 5 years (currently running an i5 3570k paired with a GTX 770) and it's a bit scary coming back into system building after a five year hiatus; I didn't even realise DDR4 memory existed until last year (yeah...).... Anyways, I've been looking at getting into the x399 platform, mostly because I believe it to be superior in terms of upgradability, especially due to its' 64 PCI-E lanes as well as Quad Channel memory. I mostly do a lot of programming/compiling and simulation with Matlab/Spice (for uni related stuff), running a few Linux virtual machines, doing some basic emulation (mostly PS2 stuff, though I realise my GPU is probably a huge bottleneck here, not so much my current CPU), as well as some recording/mixing in Cubase (where I run a lot of VSTs). I do game a little bit, but it's mostly Source Engine/UE4 stuff, so I'm not really too concerned about that. Multitasking performance is key too. I'd really like to get the 1920x, but I don't know if I can really justify spending an extra ~$500AUD when I'm not really going to see _that_ much of a performance boost over the 1900x. I've been doing research on benchmarks, but most reviews I've read have absolutely blasted the 1900x beacuse it is a very shaved down product when compared to the 1920x, 1950x and in some cases the Ryzen 7 1800x(?). I don't really mind spending the extra money, but whether it's a waste or not for my uses is the question. Here's the current build I have planned (all prices in AUD): https://www.pccasegear.com/wish_lists/827978/Threadripper 2018 Note that there's no GPU, I'm reusing my 770 for now (roasts accepted). Also I'm not splurging on memory at the moment (though I know I should with TR due to the infinity fabric/latency), it's WAY too expensive for me to consider anything more than 16GiB, that's a future upgrade for sure. I have considered a regular Ryzen build, but the biggest appeal to me with Threadripper is the sheer amount of IO on the board paired with the 8c/16t (for using -j with gcc for my fellow programmers ). It'd be nice to have a second opinion from people a little more in the know than me, there's so much information online it's kind of hard to absorb it all. Cheers, -quaker P.S Can someone explain Ryzen memory compatibility to me? I've read people have had some instabilities with 3200/3600 RAM on Ryzen, hence the "AMD compatible RAM".

Hey everyone I am looking into performing a few upgrades to my Threadripper 1950X build over the next few months. One of the big upgrades I am looking into is a custom liquid loop. The case I am using is the Gigabyte AC300W mid tower. I will be upgrading the side panels plastic see through to a tempered glass panel, from a EVGA GTX 1060 SSC 6GB ACX 3.0 to a 1080ti/1180ti depending on if we see the 11th gen, 32GB 2x16GB DDR4 TridentZ RGB 3200Mhz to 64GB 4x16GB sticks. Let me know what you think about liquid cooling? I'd like to stick with a 280mm radiator up front so I can do a push pull configuration. Maybe mount the resivour/pump in the bottom? Hi, I'm currently running an UnRaid multi-headed gaming setup/workstation using Threadripper. System Specs: Threadripper 1950X (soon to be 2990WX) Asus ROG Zenith Extreme 128 GB Trident Z RGB DDR4-2933 3x 960 Evo 1tb 2x 1080 Ti 1x Titan V 1x 1050 Ti Here's my problem: I'm currently running this configuration just fine, however, I want to add proper NAS functionality using a FreeNAS VM in UnRaid, but a) I want to add 10 gbe networking, and b) I want to add a SAS card because I found https://www.pc-pitstop.com/sas_cables_enclosures/sas8bay.asp which seems like a good option since I don't have anywhere to put drives internally, and I want to have hot swap drive bays. c) You might wonder why I have the 1050 Ti in there, and it's because I can't seem to pass through the GPU in the primary slot, and so I put the cheapest GPU i could find there, current configuration is: 1. 1050 Ti 2. Titan V 3. 1080 Ti (water cooled, single slot) 4. 1080 Ti (water cooled, single slot) So here's what I *wish* I could do. I wish I could split my first slot, the top PCIe3.0 x16 slot between the 1050 Ti (which I'm not really using, it's just taking up space), a 10 GBE card (most of those run on x4 or x8 slots i think) and a SAS card that runs on x4 or x8 as well. However a) I've not seen anything that splits a PCIe x16 into what I need (other than Mining cards which I'm not sure will do the job) b) My 1050 Ti runs off a x16 connection (even though I don't really need it, I just need it to register and have it act as primary GPU) c) I have no mounting solution even if I do split it, I'd need to find a way to mount it in the case (though this I'm more optimistic, I could use riser cables and maybe CNC something to mount it, less concerned about this). Any advice? I really want to add 10gbe and the SAS card, but I'm not sure how to do it, and I don't want to build a separate machine for NAS, since i have plenty of cores and RAM to spare on this machine, just need a way of connecting drives and better networking.

A couple of days ago I bought an asus x399 prime-a and a threadripper 1900x I assembled the system and when I got into the bios I couldn't find a way to make my front panel fans a just with the temperature of my GPU (a 1080 ti) instead of the processor, and because the CPU gets kinda hot when it's stressed (around 80c) my front noctua nf-a14 go crazy and ramp up to full speed And another issue is that whatever I do when the CPU reaches 75c the fans all ramp up to 100% and I can't change that for some reason

Hi Guys! I've been looking everywhere I could on google to find out about the code D2 Test NVRAM coming up on the BIOS screen. I cannot find a link anywhere or even a list of code error from Asus... Obviously you can also see the CPU lights on... When I removed everything including the CPU, I've discovered that one of the screw circled in red was actually not screwed in properly... making the connection with the blue screwing part for my monoblock nearly impossible... I've screwed it back in place as it uses the same size as for the Threadripper but it hasn't changed anything. So guys I need your help... If you know what else I can do or know about the error that would be great... Thank you!

Im a high school kid who is pretty new to PC building (one system built so far) and i recently went all in and bought some stuff off ebay (incredible dealz). I bought a X399 Aorus Gaming 7 mobo ($200), threadripper 1920x ($437 Brand new never opened :0), 16gb corsair vengeance RGB ddr4 3000 ($160) , along with a 512gb nvme ssd and 1tb hdd (both of which i got for pretty cheap and do not remember the prices of), and a super basic AMD graphics card which i found lying around and am only using as a hdmi output for the time being. This PC is a labor of love for me and is causing me some problems. when i recived my mobo and CPU (the last pieces to arrive) i spent a little time putting it together and making sure that i followed instructions perfectly, however when i went to boot the system for the first time with everything connected i was met with a strange Boot Loop. The PC would light up for a split second (RGB goodness) but all the lights would soon flash off and the small error code light would flash multiple codes in quick succession (pretty much too fast to read) then all the fans would turn off. Currently i have the 24 pin and the 8 pin PSU cables from my 750w psu plugged in but i left the extra 4 pin plug unconnected because it is supposedly optional and only should be used for extreme overclocking. the small status LED for the CPU lights up when i power on the system indicating that the problem might be with the CPU, i have tried reseating the CPU multiple times and inspecting the socket for any damage (i found none) and even reseating the AIO cooler but to no avail, i ask you.. oH wise computer gods, pls help me figure out what is going on with my baby boi. with bated breath -Ceta

Hi,I have a two usb receivers plugged into two rear usb ports for keyboard and mouseAs soon as I plug in a usb drive the keyboard and mouse completely freeze. The usb drive opens in windows explorer though I am unable to use my mouse to do anything with it.The second I unplug the drive my mouse and keyboard are immediately usable again. I was having latency issues and installed some update drivers which solved the latency but now I have this problem.Any idea what is going on here? My front usb ports have also become unresponsive too.I am running AMD Threadripper 2950X // MSI 399x Gaming Carbon Pro// 32gb 3000mhz Corsair Vengeance RAM // NVIDIA GTX 1070 // 800w PSU // WINDOWS 10 PRO

Spy pictures from TechPowerUP’s coverage of Computex have revealed MSI’s upcoming Threadripper motherboard. https://www.techpowerup.com/244806/msi-meg-x399-creation-to-be-the-most-outrageous-threadripper-motherboard-you-can-buy Yes, despite being a refresh, it is still called X399. it clams a 19 phase power delivery (most likely a 8+3 phase with 2 sets of components each like they usually do; or a doubled 8 phase (8x2) since there is no 19 phase controller on the planet) which is massive overkill probably even for a 32-core Threadripper if AMD will release one. It has a very, very unique design which is a love-it or hate-it deal. It has minimal RGB which to me is a good thing but for others might be bad. IO wise: Not sure if there is 10gb Ethernet though. This board also claims to have StoreMI integrated as it is technically a X399 "refresh". Bonus: MSi has also teased a B450 board which is spotted by tweaktown: That is so far the new motherboards at computex that I'm aware. Expect more b450/Z490/Z390/X399 boards for the upcoming days.

Computer specs: Amd TR1950x Gtx 1080ti Trident RGB 3200 mhz 14 cas 32gb (quad channel) Samsung 960 nvme sad (boot) Samsung 850 evo (steam library) Seagate expansion desktop 5tb hdd Toshiba 2tb hdd Asrock taichi x399 mobo 850 watt psu (can't be bothered to look up brand maybe corsair 80+ gold) Problem: Needed to route a cable around my computer so I shut it down, and then unplugged the psu (didn't flip the switch on psu). I unplugged one other item from my power strip pretty sure it was my tv not my desktop hdd. When I plugged in the psu I got no boot. So I removed the graphics card, and removed the battery from mobo to reset cmos. Still no boot so I flashed the bios the version I have been using is 1.50 released 9/7/2017 (https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X399 Taichi/index.asp#BIOS). Bios flash changed nothing. So I restarted with all peripherals unplugged (except 1 monitor). At a loss right now, next I would try to unplug all sata and all m.2 drives aside from nvme boot drive. Any suggestions???!

Hi everyone this is my first post, i'm a big fan of Linus youtube channel and after some time of saving and watching videos wondering what to build i managed to buy a new rig a month ago: 1. Threadripper 1950x 2. Gigabyte 1080ti Waterforce (The AIO one) 3. Corsair H110i v2 Cooler 4. Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB 5. Gigabyte Aorus7 X399 Motherboard 6. Samsung Evo 860 500GB 7. EVGA Supernova G3 850W 80 Plus Gold 8. Cougar Panzer Case Right now i have only the h110i at the top (pulling) and the 1080ti in the front (also pulling) and only one stock exhaust fan in the back. I just built it last week but i need some advice to setup the best airflow config because i havent started doing long renders with it yet (only graphic design and a little gaming) and both the gpu and the gpu are keeping below 40° (60°-70° with 4K gaming) but i'm noticing higher temps (up to 20° higher) in other parts of the mainboard so i'm starting to think the airflow is not optimized... do you think it's enough or should i need an extra fan? and what config do you suggest for me? Thanks for your time and advice... this is my first build in a long time... Rob.

Hello fellow pc builders. Today I want to ask you for some help because I’m a bit stumped. i was a simple i7-6700k intel man until amd came out with those juicy threadrippers. Naturally I decided to ditch the intel setup and move to the threadripper one. I got myself a 1950x chip and an Asus x399-a prime. I decided to be a bit of a Scrooge and jack my old Hiper m1000 out of my old set up to use in the new one, but I ran into a bit of a problem. the Hiper m1000 that I have does not have enough cpu cables. It has a 4+4 pin, a 24pin but no extra cable to power the 4pin eatx12v_2 socket. I got a bit of dilemma on my hands right now. What I thought I can do is use my 4+4 pin to split it and use one 4pin connector to power the eatx12v_2 and just leave the second part of that 4+4 to dangle around. The problem is that if I go with this rout I won’t have a cable to power the eatx12v_1 socket. So I’m just sitting here without a damn clue what to do. I was wondering if I can perhaps use one of my extra pci-e 8pin to populate the eatx12v_1 socket but I’m not sure if that is the right thing to do. Naturally I really don’t want to damage a rig this expensive by being an incompetent boob so here I am. I never encountered an extra cpu socket on a mother board like this and it confuses the heck out of me. Can you guys give me a hand with this? Is it ok if I do this or should I get a new psu? If so what psu would be good enough for a pc with 2 gtx1080’s and an overclocked threadripper to 4ghz?

While doing research on another kit of RAM for x399 I am seeing Samsung as the preferred chip manufacturer and the QVL is nice enough to call out which DIMMS are Samsung or not. The question is, do you buy faster frequency, tighter latency or stick with Samsung and accept lower speeds? Example - Would you get a non-Samsung DDR4 3200 at 14 or 15 CAS. Or a Samsung DDR4 3200 at 16+ CAS? I haven't heard of anyone reliably booting X399 at over 3200 yet, so I am not bothering to look at those speeds, but should I? In the future there could be BIOS updates that make higher speeds possible, right? Thanks!

I used to use the 9260-8i on an Asus P6T motherboard and I could access the card's firmware config utility just fine, but now that I've moved it to an Asus PRIME X399-A I can no longer access the utility. The card and the RAID array on it still work, I just can't get into the firmware to change or clear any settings. Is there any way to get back access, or am I stuck? Access used to be by pressing Ctrl+H at the RAID card's boot messages which came after the motherboard boot page. The prompt still shows and the keypress seems to be acknowleged, but the config utility fails to come up and the PC goes through to Windows.
