http://www.anandtech.com/show/11463/intel-announces-kaby-lakex-processors-highend-desktop-getting-the-latest-microarchitecture If you're looking for Skylake-X monsters read my other thread Leaks were spot on for these Kabylak-X parts. Higher TDP, higher clocks, higher price, X299. Compared to the current flagship i7 and i5 processors on LGA 1151 these parts have no iGPU and more power delivery through more pins and increased vias, this means +100mhz on the i7 for 21W. They also have support for higher speed memory 2666mhz vs 2400mhz. Who's this for? 1) People who want the most single thread performance 2) People who want to buy into X299 now and upgrade later 3) People who want overclocking records (read: Intel's marketing department) Differences between Kabylake-S, Kabylake-X and Skylake-X Overclocking-ness So looks to be a better overclocker than the current consumer Kabylake parts. They are using TIM rather than solder, kinda sends mixed signals for parts where overclocking seems to be a main focus.

Okay maybe I am late to the show here but I just saw this article on Arstechnica regarding windows 10S and had to share it here. "Windows 10 S blocks the execution of any program that wasn't downloaded from the windows store. Arbitrary downloaded apps, even with physical install media, are forbidden." For those of you like me who are security buffs this is a great thing as it positions Microsoft as a gatekeeper, and if you trust Microsoft to not allow malicious apps from getting on the store, then that's great, if you're still skeptical and don't 100% trust MSFT, then it's still not a bad thing as long as any other program you use for security is on the windows store. But this also means that programs that are mainstays of the Windows PC, like photoshop or Steam got a big fat banhammer from Microsoft. What are people's thoughts on this? Do you want it to succeed like the author of the arstechnica article wants you to? If it hasn't been brought up already, maybe whoever is on the next Wan show can weigh in.

So I happened to have had the opportunity to catch a live stream that EVGA did on Facebook like a day or two ago and one of the guys that was talking legitimately stated that he was about to build his first Ryzen PC with a MSI 970 MoBo (I don't remember which CPU or MSI board he said specifically but I distinctly remember him saying he was building a Ryzen PC with an MSI 970 motherboard) and at first, due to me still being new to building PCs and tech, I thought "Oh cool." and just continued to watch then I realized that the 970 chipset is an AM3/AM3+ CPU socket where Ryzen CPUs are AM4... Is this a slip of the tongue or is it possible to run an AM4 socket type on an AM3+ socket? I'm genuinely confused. Lol.

So I have been playing IW for a few hours and got into the multiplayer and found out I am trash with a mouse and keyboard, mainly because I have played every other COD on an Xbox but I thought I could try it. So I decide to plug in my Xbox One controller and I'm doing marginally better. Now on Steam it says full controller support and it is made for two other consoles as well but whenever I get a payload it says "Press unbound" to call in my payload. So I think, hmm that's odd because THIS IS MADE FOR OTHER FING CONSOLES! So I go take a look at the control settings and guess what? Nowhere does it say anything about a payload or whatever. And all it says for the d-pad is "Campaign, multiplayer and zombie specific" WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!? Do people on console just not have payloads? This is crazy annoying and really is starting to piss me off. I love the game but gosh darn it people! DO YOUR JOB!

is it worth trying to sell my 970 strix to get a 1060 FTW2 6GB? and would i actually get that much more performance out of it?

Not to long ago, biostar has introduced their mining motherboard. Now they are introducing their own riser for mining. They claim it can handle up to 104 usb devices. Far more superior than Intel x299 cpu, that's for sure. https://videocardz.com/newz/biostar-teasing-motherboard-with-104-usb-risers-support-for-mining

Magic Task Manager? Someone Explain This!
CykelStativet posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
BACKSTORY: So.. I'm new here. Signed up just to tell my story. Forgive me if this belongs somewhere else. Anyways, I have a simple server. Just old hardware functioning as a NAS. For good measure I'll list the important hardware: i3-2120 3.3GHz 4Gig's of RAM 3 HDD's This runs on Windows Server 2012R2 and functions perfectly for my needs, which are SMB shares. I access this server only with Remote Desktop when necessary, however I notice that everything runs EXTREMELY slow. Especially Windows Explorer. The funny thing is that browsing the shares on any other PC runs smoothly, even though the shares are on the slow server. INTERESTING STUFF STARTS HERE: So one day while using Remote Desktop I noticed, by coincidence, that while Task Manager was open in the background, everything seemed to run smoothly. I started testing this. I closed TM and navigated Explorer. Now it was slow as balls. Then I opened TM again; everything runs perfectly. WHAT?!?!? I have tested this extensively now and can only conclude that my Task Manager is magic since this works every time. I now have Task Manager running in the background all the time with refresh speed set to "Paused" and everything runs smooth like butter.- 10 replies

So i decided to play some mine craft on my new strix 1070 cause y not. So i got like 200 fps and got bored so i downloaded some heavy shades. They look great but imm concerned. fraps says imm getting 45 fps but the websight says that the lowest I should be getting is 60 fps... on a 960. I want to be getting way higher than 45 fps in mine craft! It is not incredibly noticeable but if i enter an area with a lot of stuff it will probably drop. I have the render on a sad 12 chunks (I need to max). wats up with my game or card. idk how to fix it.

Hello my name is Danni, i have had my custom build for about 2 or so years now. It's nothing special but good for mid gaming, with a Nividia GTX 970 gpu, and an i7-4790K GPU overclocked with watercooled CPU, and three storage devices one an SSD. Today i was playing World at War Ships like always on my system and randomly i got a loud noise screeching... and my game freezing and maybe jouttering a couple times before the blue screen of death with the error, WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. Once my system reset i immediately wanted to find out the problem to this, and one of the first was the condition of the system. I oppened up software to tell my the systems temperature and a few other things and everything seemed fine. GPU and CPU fine temperatures especially after gaming. And then it hit me, the System and AUXIN1\2\3 were running at 116'c !!! LIKE WTF, i couldn't understand why the fan circulation was perfect the water cooling was working the main components were cooled why was it overheating... but i could not find out why... The image sent says the fan speed is 0 but they are all working as normal? Please help im really confused to why i was getting these speeds ?

So I've done some crazy upgrades over the years but ones in a blue moon one comes around that knocks me on my ass. A customer came in and ordered an ASUS Strix GTX1080ti, EVGA 600 Watt PSU and a new case (Corsair 200R) with the intent to have use move his old P8P67-M Pro Motherboard, 8GBs of DDR3-10600 and balling i5-2400 into. As an aside he also had a failing HDD full of Viruses that we had to clone then clean to get working... WTF? That's over $1,000 of Hardware plus the Labor charge he's paying for the work... The word Bottleneck is REAL with this one wholly balls!!! He said he's going to try out some VR stuff and his tech friend told him he needed a better GPU so he went with the best. When we told him he should upgrade his whole system and get a new CPU, Motherboard and RAM he said he wasn't allowed to spend any more. If he had an i5-2500k with good cooling to OC the balls off of it he'd still be choking the 1080ti...

I think I'm safe in saying that microtransactions are seriously becoming a cancer in the gaming community, however, Activision appears to have found a way to one up this in a recent patent it was granted. The patent in question details the use of matchmaking and social engineering to encourage players to make more purchases, also titled as "System and method for driving microtransactions in multiplayer video games". HardOCP Link (Originally saw this here): https://www.hardocp.com/news/2017/10/17/activision_uses_matchmaking_tricks_to_sell_ingame_items https://www.rollingstone.com/glixel/news/how-activision-uses-matchmaking-tricks-to-sell-in-game-items-w509288 This just seems really horrible to me and kind of leaves me at a loss for words... Seriously, with each new microtransaction story, it's like the game companies are trying to emulate drug dealers to try and get gamers hooked on a games microtransaction system to reap higher profits. Patent: http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect2=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/search-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&d=PALL&RefSrch=yes&Query=PN/9789406 Update: So on the good news front, if Bungie and Activision are to be believed, this is currently not being implemented in any of their titles... Again, this is if the companies that are implementing this are to be believed. Personally, I still hold my doubts as if it was well implemented, then you may not be able to tell whether or not this is influencing your game or gameplay.

Fellow Techies, I have been able to solve some of my past BSOD problems, but this one is new. The info is given by BlueScreenView. It is a f4 (not quite new but I will continue), caused by driver: ntoskrnl.exe, Caused By Address: nstoskrnel.exe+70400. Thoughts?

Hello Guys! Recently I noticed thatthe price of my desired GPU for an upcoming build become simply too high, a GTX 1060 6Gb. A couple weeks ago it was just 240€ and now its around 600€ (WTF!!!). this is also the case with 1070, 1080/ti and the AMD RX500 series. WHAT THE FRICKING HELL?!?!? Almost 200% prices? As it turns out it's because of cryptominers (again) who buy extensive amounts (about 6 cards for ONE build), so they can make profit. This trend became so big, that production capabilities were overpassed, and stocks, emptied, so producers had to raise the prices. BUT TO FRICKING INSANE LEVELS. What can we do, who don't want mid-advanced cards? I personally choose GTX1060 6gb because it's one of the few 'cheapo' GPUs with official VR support (for a possible future upgrade)

So I got an SSD a few days ago, Samsung 580 Evo 500GB. I cloned my old HDD to it and everything. After I formated the old drive, I moved most of the files back to it to save space on the SSD. Then I downloaed SSDLife to see what's up, and BAM ( not a bus). It's showing a ridiculous amount of data written to it. After 4 days of having it, it has already over 1400gb written to it. Okay, the cloning was about 450 and I installed GTA a couble of times but still. Yesterday it had 79gb written on it in ONE day. I didn't do any of it, just gaming and browsing. As of last night (12 am) it has already written 20gb into it. So what the F**K is that about?I tried monitoring with SSDReady and I see constant activity in idle, which is normal of course but I can't see the amount of data written. Any ideas?

Hey. I have build mysef a new PC. Everything worked just fine. Now, sometimes, The Computer Freezes completely. I can't do anything. The Mouse Moves but i cant click on anything. All Programms are saying "Not Responding". I cant use anything like "ALT F4" or "Controll ALT delete". When i Restart the Computer, my only Storage Devise ain't get detected anymore. Afer a complete Restart (also Power supply turned off) everything works Fine. That happend sometimes in the past but i didnt thaught that it is ""dangerous"". I thought "Ryzen is still unstable and i didnt done a BIOS update". Now, after the BIOS update it is still Happening. Is maybe something on my Motherboard Broke or my SSD ? All Sata Cables are hardly plugged in. I Used the 6. SATA Port because it was better to reach. Thanks for the Help, Benny. *EDIT* I Built The PC a week ago

Hey guys, so I moved to a slightly warmer room in the house along with my setup, and I suspect it to be the cause of this month's electricity bill to be double of that from previous month. Like, is that even plausible? Because this is not even the end of the month yet, but my electricity bill is already 50% more compared to what I paid in the previous month, and other than the fact that my PC is running on a slightly warmer room, pretty much nothing has changed, I'm actually using even less electronics now (room has no lamp). I'm going to call the electricity company soon to make sure it's not a billing issue where they failed to receive my previous payment, but I just want to make sure first if my suspicion is plausible. My PC has 2 intake and 1 exhaust fans running on constant speed, I'm pretty sure the only dynamic fans I have on my system are my CPU and GPU fans. Would a warmer room which makes the fans need to run faster make that much of a difference in my electricity bill? PC is running almost 24/7, just like in the previous month.
