Hey! I built my computer mid 2016 and it served me well. i7-6800k@4.2GHz(all core) 32GB 3200mhz cl14 RAM 1080ti Multiple SSDs and harddrives All on the Asus ROG x99 Motherboard. A 280mm AIO cools the CPU and a 140mm AIO cools the GPU. I'm still happy with most of the things, except for the CPU. It works fine, for the most part, but I feel it's a little slow, especially since I began to use more and more of the Adobe Suite(Lightroom, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro). But I also game! Even if not as much as I used to, but I'd rather retain my 144fps since I got a monitor for that, too. As far as I understand the best choice for rendering/workflow would be the i7-6950X which can be had for €200-300 from ebay. If I mange to sell my current CPU that's a good deal. I think. But I'm out of the loop. Haven't really checked all the hardware news and numbers since I built this machine and I don't know if this would even be a good upgrade. As you can probably guess, I'd like to keep the motherboard to cut the costs. Would it be a big mistake to get the 6950x?

I'm editing HD (1080p, x264, 60fps, 12000Kbps, CBR ) content in Premiere Pro (version 14.0.0 build572) and when I set it to use CUDA as a renderer instead of using software only, it actually runs a lot slower. I used to use a software that is called hazel to automate file sorting on my macbook. Here is one of the scenario: once a new pdf file is downloaded to my desktop, i ask hazel to automatically move that file into a folder that I pre created called : PDF collection. Can I do this using apple's own automation app?? If so, how can I do it? Hazel 4 is quite expensive and I don't really wanna pirate it. So.

Hey Guys, Me and my flatmates doing some graphics designo and we decided to establish as best workflow for us as it possible (we're also runing weekend operating full time LANparty hardcore gaming). I was thinking maybe some of you guys have some tips on enhencing connection between computers. Right now we've established workgroup, and shared drives with each other. Is there any thing that comes to your mind guys and could do something more? We don't have any server for now, but we thinking about buying one. BTW. Here's a photo of ouer "facilo" druing weekend lanparty, hope you like it!

Why..? Why the heck Linus? Enough of the exaggeration... Why do you shoot in ProRes, which is easy to edit and post process, he still transcoded the footage to Cineform? Is he just wasting time or something? For footages from GH4, 100 Mbps H264 UHD 29.97 fps, I get it. But for FS700 or FS5? It doesn't make ANY sense to transcode ProRes to Cineform. I guess. Can somebody please explain?

So I thought about this idea and I want to know if there is an app for it (idealy on iOS) that, in a very similar way to StumbleUpon, just randomly goes through the articles on the Wikipedia:Unusual Articles. Alternativly is there a way you can set up another app, e.g. FlipBoard/Stumble Upon, that would do this operation? Cheers Xvantok

So I keep a variety of windows open on my second monitor and I was wondering if there is a way or a program i can use to dock these windows inside another window. and potentially save the configuration. I keep generally a minimum of 4 windows on the screen at once (mainly GPU-Z, Task manager, Intel XTU and skype or disscord) but i also often have a other application on the same screen that I keep maximized like my web browser, steam ect. so if im playing a game and tab into my web browser to check something I then either need to mouse out of the game to minimize the full screen window or tab each of the smaller windows to the front individually. also It would be nice to be able to have multiple layouts saved so without having to manually reorder my layout i could switch between my performance screen (as i will refer to my gpuz xtu taskmanagetr screen form now on) and a obs/twitchchat screen lets say if i was live streaming. Picture of my typical layout

Hi there, I am videographer/photograper trying to upgrade my data storage workflow. Currently I am using a lot of USB 3.0 external HDDs which are very slow and painful to use. I want to get NAS with 10gbe connection. I found this budget friendly option: QNAP-TS431-X2 but I am not sure if I would be able to playback and edit 4K ProRes 422 using this NAS. Has anyone else used this NAS for video workflow? Which other budget friendly options would you guys recommend? Thank you for your help

keyboard Is there some kind of Android Macro Keyboard?
Allptraum1989 posted a topic in Phones and Tablets
Until now i've been using SwiftKey. But i have to text one of five never changing sentences to contacts very frequently and all the typing the same sentence over and over again is getting verry annoying. There must be some kind of virtual keyboard with macro keys like most gaming keyboards have. But somehow i can't find one. -
I heard both on streams and in videos they mentioned Jira and Trello. But never actually see how it looks like. Want to really know how its managing, how people delegate to do something in a video. Like how it transfers from camera flash cards to video editing, how after that goes to sound director, and how goes to producer, which will help to give corrections to the video (like cut something there/there is sound a bit loudly etc) Basically im really want to know what LMG uses all time and for what. Even messaging software. I understand that I may be asking too much, but if it's not a secret, can you tell us?

Hi all! I just wanted to run my video editing workflow by you to see if it makes any sense, or if I have to modify my plan for optimal speed/redundancy/backup/archiving. I will be receiving the raw footage on SD cards, which I will then transfer to my high-speed editing RAID (4 SSDs in RAID 0). From here, I will setup hourly backups to an external RAID consisting of high capacity HDDs (likely in RAID 1, or something else that offers decent redundancy). The footage on this RAID will be uploaded to the cloud. When I'm finished with the project, I will remove the footage from my high-speed RAID, and the backup of the footage and the project will remain on the HDD RAID until it can be archived (ex. Project 1 is cloned onto a portable 1TB external drive) and in the cloud permanently. Does this make sense? Do you have any further recommendations? Thank you in advance, Erin Joan

I wanna know how many macros taran has now with a proper update and if there has been any changes to the software he uses to get his keyboards working and also i am a video editor myself and i would like to know how to add more than just the 2 keyboards i have and get them working stabiliy. And i am having some issues with lua macros and frankly i dont want to learn how to code in lua. I would also like to know how your editors work round any corrupted footage they may encounter, well tbh i want to know how they work around premieres bugs. I have used premier for the past 2 years and i will continue to use it but i have en counted points where premier actually corrupts its own project file while in use has that ever happened to any videos in LMG?

after reaching the conclusion that I may have bought an underpowered CPU for my new machine (I DO have a 1080 GPU) I have a 7740x and was wondering #1 should I drop the 2grand I plan on dropping on an i9 or drop it on the new zen and threadripper as I plan on using this rig for editing and heavy gaming, also will the OC to 5.0 on the 7740 I have to be enough for now, as I am doing more gaming and streaming than editing right now, I am a blue fanboy just for the reason that I am old enough to remember when AMD cpu,s were melting boards. but it seems that they aren't running hot plus water cooling so I guess its a non issue

In theory it is possible that USB 3.0 hubs in displays are connected via DisplayPort to the computer. However, I've never seen that in practice. Has someone experience with this or can test this? I am looking into displays like the x34 predator, but I am worried that the USB 3.0 connectivity is only via the extra USB cable and not over DisplayPort. For me, it would be a nice setup when coming home from work: plug only 1 cable (DisplayPort) into my laptop and use the external mouse and keyboard over DisplayPort. This would be a clean work setup, at least in theory. Here is a sketch of what I had in mind (notice my MVP photoshop skills):

Intro Hello, I realize this might be a strange thread to be on the LTT forums, but it's tech related and I need help. So I thought it would be worth-while for our household as well as others who want a similar solution to ask here. The Problem I'm mainly helping out my father who has literally tens of cubic feet of paper that needs to be better organized. Hopefuly the solution will also help the rest of the family to be better organized when it comes to paperless document organization as well. The trick is that we already have a printer that has a quality document scanner that is relatively quick and we don't want to invest in another scanner with proprietary hardware/software (i.e. Neat Scanner). The workflow When it comes to high-efficiency paper scanning and organization using a DMS (Document Management System) there are a few components that need to be considered and setup before scanning. A backup system like a NAS The scanner: Does it scan both sides quickly? Does it make corrections like straightening out pages on the fly? A paper shredder The DMS Where I need help I have a temporary backup solution which I hope to improve upon by investing in a Synology DiskStation NAS with some Seagate NAS drives. I have a scanner that scans both sides relatively quickly although it doesn't automatically make corrections. I have a great paper shredder. The part I'm having the hardest time finding is a relatively cheap, home-use Document Management System. Something that automatically take the scanned documents and use OCR, index, label, and organize the documents so that they could be searched and found quickly and easily. DMS It would be great if the DMS could: Save the final, indexed documents in PDF form for compatibility. Work with MS Office programs (OneNote) Something like eFileCabinet except without the cloud stuff, the price tag, and all the extra features. While nice, it's business orientated instead of home oriented which makes it way more expensive. I will be paying close attention to this thread and hopefully we can make a super-cool paperless scanning and organizing workflow. Don't be shy. Even if you don't know anything about DMS systems I'm sure you guys will have some other suggestions, which I'm open to.

Hello I'm just wanting to know how I can utilize the full power of a GeForce GTX Titan X for digital content creation such as 3ds Max. Like figuring out how to use the 12GB of VRAM and the fully unlocked GM200 architecture to fully accelerate my particular workflow especially rendering my projects in a timely manner while maintaining a high quality standard. Last semester I knew for me could have been better if the school computers had much beefier GPU's and I had my own computer of similar strength. The first and foremost reason why I am considering a Titan X is so I am able to create 3D models and scenes of my wildest dreams, but can't since I am severely limited on power and the fact that the laptop I commonly use would, die. Again, being able to use the entirety of the Titan X like you would with the M6000 or the K6000 in 3ds Max. Please no 980 Ti suggestions. I have seen more than enough of it.

I'm trying to spec a system for true 10-bit workflow (photography mostly). Does anyone know of a list of true native 10-bit monitors? When I say 'true' I am specifically excluding 8-bit+FRC. There's so much misinformation about this topic that it might be the subject for a video, Linus :-) I'm leaning towards a HP Z27x Dreamcolor but I want to explore the alternatives. Thanks in advance!

To all the Lightroom users out there, I am in a bit of a stopping point here as I have been using Lightroom for a year now however I have run into one big issue: I am unable to find folder structure that will help keep my photo organised. Most people use the "Year -> Month -> Date" folder structure. After listening to a lecture by Tim Grey though I have found that a "Year -> Event" folder structure is quite a good idea as it avoids having to sift through folders to find a specific point in time in which my photos are store and also avoid having empty folders if for example there are not photos for the month of June (I hate empty folders on my PC). My only issue is what if I have the same even more than once (an example might be a tri to Spain twice in one year). Would I then have to have a "Spain 01" and a "Spain 02" to avoid confusion? I was wondering if any of the avid Lightroom users could maybe share their workflows so I can have a broader picture or get ideas which I could implement into my own workflow since the biggest hindrance I have found in using Lightroom is having to maintain an organised and cohesive folder structure from the onset of creating my Library. hanks in advance to the LTT community.
