Hi all, I ran into a problem, i'm repairing a very old PC from a client. It's runnig a Celeron D 351, ASRock mobo, an old nvidea graphicscard, 1GB Ram, a WD Blue 500GB (this is a new one). I installed Windows 7 after formatting the drive to NTFS. I did this with another working PC. I installed the drive with W7 into the old pc. In the BIOS the drive shows up but it doesn't boot and a Black screen with the follow text shows up. Thanks a lot.

Hello, I just reinstalled windows on an old OEM laptop (2011 Dell Inspiron) using the laptops original disk. I am attempting to install windows updates and for several hours now it has just been showing "Checking For Updates" I've tried rebooting to no avail. Attached is a screenshot of what windows update shows. Any help would be appreciated. I know your probably going to say "Just upgrade to Windows 10" but I really feel uncomfortable with some of 10s security settings, etc.

Last year i bought a G27 steering wheel, i initially configured it to its full 900 degree rotation and used it for about 6 months then i started playing some other games and unplugged my wheel for about 3 months. When i plugged it back in around Christmas time it still worked perfectly with all my games. then in the last few weeks i wanted to play racing games again and it just had configured its self back to the windows default and has been impossible be reconfigure because vital options have just disappeared. NOTE I still use windows 7. The sliders and the tick options for reset have just disappeared and i cant get them back searched around and none of these methods have helped please could someone help me figure out what is wrong.

I'm currently dual booting my Asus X550JX laptop with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Windows 10. The PC that is streaming the content from my laptop is running Windows 7. When my X550 is booted into Windows I can stream all my content without a hitch; this tells me it cannot be hardware related and it has to be some setting in my Ubuntu. I have installed caffeine to ensure my laptop does not go to sleep or turn off the screen when I need it to. The problem when sharing from my Ubuntu is that it will stream a movie or series for a few minutes (usually 10minutes+) then it will stop the video. When I play the video and go to the same place where I was it will stop the video again. The only way to watch the whole video is to skip past the point in the video where it "stops". Another problem is that it buffers which it never does when my laptop is booted to Windows. I have also tried different media players on my media machine but that does not seem to solve this problem. All my videos are saved on my Windows partition that I have mounted at start up to give me ownership on the drive in order to share the folder over samba. This is the line I added into /etc/fstab /dev/sda4 /mnt/OS auto user,exec,uid=slugger,gid=slugger,x-gvfs-show,umask=002 0 2 in /etc/samba/smb.conf [Videos] path = /mnt/OS/Users/Slugger7/Videos available = yes valid users = slugger read only = no browsable = yes public = yes writeable = no I have thought about spin down time of my hard drive but I have no idea on how to change that or to test if it could actually be that. I have noticed that when I am working on my Ubuntu then it does not cause problems. Any ideas welcome.

The current situation of this computer: Is able to boot into Ubuntu Live CD, did not try to install yet Is not able to boot into Windows installation disk (both Windows 7 and Windows 10) both with drives or WITHOUT drives (SATA Data cable disconnected), my SSD is completely blank in GPT Attempt to boot into Windows installation disk using EFI on usb results in: Recovery - Your PC/Device needs to be repaired - An unknown error occured. - 0xc000000e What is a potential solution to this problem? I need Windows desperately for some software that I need in the future, exclusive to Windows. (Virtual Machine is not an option, the software required heavy graphics and CPU usage)

I have researched further into Windows and I have decided that Windows 7 Home Premium would be the best for me, I have found a website that looks trustworthy that I can buy it from (will put link at the end because it is long), since both of my USB sticks have stuff for my Youtube and Schoolwork, I can't use those, so I also found a place I can buy another USB that has the ISO on it, what do you think of that? Right had a PC made the other year and had Window 7 put on it. Got into making PC's the last 6 months and used the Windows 7 disk they included on a build because it had 3 uses. Today I've learned about OEM and was planning on wiping the PC of Window 7 to do a complete upgrade (new motherboard/CPU) and get an SSD to do a Hybrid set up. Now can I/how do this? Without using up the other product key or affecting my other computer? Thanks, CP

I was given a used Laptop an HP mini 210 with windows 7 and Microsoft word, which I really need for school, but it is filled with viruses and Malware which makes it hard to run. I would like to reformat it, but it didn't come with anything. She has never backed it up and if it came with any disks she has lost them. Is there a way to reformat but saving the OS and Microsoft word?

Hello all. I have a problem... Ok. Here is the rundown. I have an APU (A8-7600) which is running a display. I also have a very crappy GPU (GV-N210SL1GI) running my secondary monitor. (I only use stuff like firefox on this) I have gotten the proper drivers for both of these devices. Here is my problem: I've been having BSODs. Noticeably only when my system is under load. Is his due to my setup? Please help me! :3 Much more detailed CPU-Z output: https://ghostbin.com/paste/kejhu PSU: CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W BSOD:

I have been at this for two days straight now and still can't get anywhere. It's driving me insane so I thought I'd ask here as I've heard nothing but good things about this site. Basically my problem is that, When I first built my PC a few years ago back in 2012, I used an old 160GB Seagate hard drive for my operating system and installed windows 7 on it. A while after that in 2013 I decided to upgrade to an SSD. So I bought a new Crucial M4 128GB SSD and installed a brand new copy of Windows 7 on it. My problem is that even though the computer boots onto the SSD, without the old Hard Drive it will not boot what so ever, the computer needs the old Hard Drive in order to function for some reason. I have made sure the boot order is correct in the BIOS multiple times and that the SSD is the priority boot drive. But when I disconnect the old hard drive it will not boot up into windows. I have tried putting my Windows 7 disk into the computer as an effort to repair the SSD as it will not boot on it's own but it won't even find the SSD. However when the old Hard Drive is re-connected it all works fine. When I go into the SSD on windows, all of the windows files are seemingly there and I really don't know why it will not work on it's own. If anyone could help me or suggest anything, I would be very appreciative. Thank you greatly, -Eddie - My PC Specs are as follows - CPU: Intel i5 3570k (1155) *Not Overclocked* RAM: 16GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz (4x 4GB) PSU: Corsair RM850 MOBO: Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe GPU: 2x Evga GTX780SC in SLI OS: Windows 7 64BIT CASE: CoolerMaster HAF-X Cooling: CPU - Corsair H100i, GPU - Reference stock coolers, CASE - Aerocool fan controlled system (6x case fans) CD/DVD Drive: YES STORAGE: 2x Western Digital Caviar Greens - 1x 1TB, 1x 2TB. Crucial M4 128GB SSD (OS Drive). Seagate 160GB 5400rpm(Old OS Drive). Western Digital 160GB 5400rpm(ShadowPlay Drive) Any other PC specs unlisted, feel free to ask!

So I noticed that for CS6 and above <Adobe> Windows 8 and 8.1 have some type of bug that is incompatible with the programs; as a result, you have to limit the GPU by switching it to Basic mode, which limits you severely if you go to render or perform high quality edits. Should I downgrade to Windows 7 and deal with it, or do I keep 8.1 and hope that a solution emerges from Adobe? Combine this with other bugs between other design programs and I'm not exactly sure if I should downgrade or not. Any advice would be welcome. P.S. This is a brand new build, so data or incompatibility shouldn't be an issue.

I'm building a gaming computer, and upgrading from my laptop. My laptop has a copy of windows 7 installed, and I was wondering if I would be able to use the copy without having to remove the hard drive.

Hey guys, I've been battling an error with installing windows for the past day and a half. I've never had this issue spiral out of control so badly... I'm making a fresh install of Windows 7, onto my new SSD (Samsung 850 Pro) via USB. No matter what I've done so far I fall into the following error:- "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information." I have done the following:- http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/314463-fresh-install-windows-7-driver-problems/ DISKPART = Countless times Converted the HDD to MBR Disk - though CMD in the Windows install (Ctrl + F10) Only running SSD and USB Completely changed SATA Cable Swapped SATA Cables (with another cable) Checked if my Bios is Legacy or not Reset my BIOS (removing the battery) Swapped USB to another location eg:- http://druss.co/2013/10/fix-error-during-installing-windows-7-from-usb-setup-was-unable-to-create-a-system-partition-or-locate-an-existing-partition/ 1) When you see the error – remove the flash drive from the computer 2) Press exit (red cross in the top right corner) 3) Start installation from the beginning (without reboot) 4) After selecting Windows 7 edition you will get new error - (cant get past this point, without plugging the usb back in. However the error returns) 5) Press OK in error window, you will be redirected to installation main menu 6) Insert your USB Flash drive in to the computer 7) Install windows I'm out of ideas, and frustration is takings its toll. - Any help will be greatly appreciated!

when i turn on my computer, i see gigabyte screen , followed by the resuming windows screen (Like it normally is) then black, with only my mouse showing (it can be moved as well). ive tried restarting it by turning it off and back on but it doesnt help. before the black screen started originally, i could see my background but no icons or anything, just the background. i tried turning it off and on again and since then its just been the black screen after the resuming windows screen. i can also hear noise emitting from my headphones because i had skype open and i can hear myself receiving messages. I dont know what to do about this, it may help you to know i just but the computer a few days ago and i havent updated my motherboard drive or graphics card drive yet.

Hey guys, thanks for clicking on the thread, I'm going to try make this as short as possible without missing out on important detail. Ok, so I've been having some problematic issues with my PC for some time now, I've decided that It's time I do a fresh install of Windows 7 on my Gaming Rig, and at the same time install a fresh new Solid State Drive, so I plan to have the OS installed on that. I have two hard drives, a 1 TB WD Blue, and another 500 GB hard drive, which of I'm not too sure the manufacturer of. So here's what I plan on doing, I just want someone to tell me if any of these steps are wrong, or should be done in a different order because I'm not too good with this type of stuff, and still relevantly new. Step 1: Remove both HDD's from computer, place them aside for later, afterwards replace the SSD with my main C: Drive, ( 1 TB WD Blue ). Step 2: Turn on PC, place in the copy of Windows 7 and boot the PC from the disc, download Windows 7 and install all updates, and drivers. Step 3: Turn off PC and place in the other HDD's, boot from the SSD and move over all necessary/important files over to SSD, and format old drive. I'm a little worried I may be doing something wrong, and I'm also clueless on how to name the drives to what I want them to be, all in all though, should this give me the conclusion that I want? ( Windows 7 installed on my ssd with all my important files included, and a formatted WD Drive). I'm sorry, I could not find anywhere better to place this, I just wanted to be safe than sorry later onwards! Thanks all, I appreciate all the help.
