I'm building a super cheap retro-ish miniPC for Windows 7, mainly aiming at co-op couch gaming, and trying to use used parts off of ebay wherever possible to do my part to reduce the net sum of e-waste floating around. I've already got a Core 2 Quad Q9400 coming in, an Intel DG45FC mini-ITX motherboard coming in, a low profile 95W cooler for LGA775 coming in, and I'll eventually be getting a new 300W flex-ATX PSU for it because used power supplies scare me. I want to eventually buy two 4GB DDR2 800MHz sticks for it, but for now I think I've got some 1GB or 2GB sticks laying around somewhere to get it up and running. I've also got a GT-1030 to pair with it for now, and all of this will be packed into a Velka 3 case I've been sitting on, with a 500GB SATA SSD. My issues/questions are these: 1. The motherboard in question only has a x1 PCIe slot, and the GT-1030 uses up to 4 PCIe lanes if what I've read is correct. It's already a little underpowered for 1080p gaming with that CPU, around a 13% GPU bottleneck, but will the x1 lane limitation make a meaningful dent in it's already modest performance? I have the appropriate riser coming in, I just don't know what to expect. 2. Given that x1 PCIe slot limitation, albeit with a x1-x16 riser, what low power ITX graphics card could I upgrade to later, considering it needs to be powered off of the slot, fit in the Velka 3, and have Windows 7 drivers? 3. How tolerant of lower RAM speeds are motherboards, generally? This one is specced for DDR2 800MHz and 677MHz, but would it hypothetically work with slower RAM if that's all I have on hand, as an interem configuration to get it up and running? Those questions and concerns aside, if anyone has any advice or ideas they'd like to share, please feel free.

Hello! A friend of mine uses at work this Lenovo G570 laptop - Intel Celeron B800 and 4 gb of RAM if i remember correctly. He uses it for basic stuff web browsing, youtube, microsoft office.Actually it has installed Windows 10 Pro, but he says that it is very slow. He suggests installing Win 7 for it to run maybe a little quickier, but i told him it comes with security risks for him and pc connected to the network where he works. What choices do we have on the software side (windows os)? Can windows 10 optimized to run faster on this laptop? Or take the risk and install win7? Install Windows 8.1? thank you!

I recently put together my windows 7 pc from a few years ago and it was running fine until a few minutes ago where the monitor went half static for a bit then went fully static and started making a rlly loud noise. I held down the power button for a few seconds to completely shut it off. After I turned it back on the CPU cooler and keyboard light up, but then the computer beeps and then turns off again and repeats. This happened a while ago but it sorted itself out. I'm pretty new to building computers so thi could be a rlly easy fix.

Hi all, I've been trying to install Windows 7 for quite a while now and can't figure it out. I know I sound mad but i want to install Windows 7 on my modern computer, with the specs: Asus Prime A320-K AMD Ryzen 5 3400g GTX 1050Ti 16gb DDR4 Memory 1tb SSD Is it because my motherboard does not have the correct drivers for Windows 7? If it doesn't, where can I get them? When I try run an installer, I get an error 0x000000A5, an error saying "The BIOS in this system is not fully compliant" Many thanks.

A work critical pc's parts has died and needed replacement, I swapped over almost everything except the hard drive because it has the installs of important programs and databases within it so a reinstall of windows 7 with USB 3.0 drivers baked in is out of the question. Though thru an USB to PS/2 adapted I have gained keyboard input. How can I get this computer up and running from this state? Any points to the right direction will be appreciated!

Specs Asus TUF B550M-plus Wifi (BIOS 1602) Amd 5600x Nvidia 3070 Corsair TX650M Windows 10 Home - 64bit / Windows 7 Premium - 64-bit (Dualboot) Problem When starting Windows 7, computer hangs at 'Starting Windows' (just before the balls come together to make the windows logo) and needs hard reboot. Happens every time. Unable to access OS Cause (Seems to be) Installing Nvidia 3070 drivers (designed for Win7-64bit) in Windows 7. Problem occured directly after installing drivers and rebooting. Other Windows 10 all working perfectly - only problems are with Win7 Thought problem might be because I haven't installed any chipset drivers for my mboard, but afaik there are no chipset drivers for Win7 for this board. Tried installing the Win10 LAN drivers (as no internet even through Ethernet) and somehow corrupted the winload.efi..? Had to do an entire reinstall of Win7 to fix Had to sideload USB drivers to get Win7 installation. Used a program called 7UPv57 from this link SecureBoot is disabled. Was able to boot into Windows 7 before installing the driver. Why? Trying to run a 2005 game that uses Safedisk DRM. Security update means it doesn't work on Win10. No noCD patch that works, so can't bypass DRM that way. Tried disabling Safedsc.sys driver/bypass digital signing etc. in Win10. No luck. Tried VM. 5600x isn't an APU, using an mATX board so no 2nd PCI_E, so no way to have GPU passthrough Solution Copious amounts of alcohol Failing that - get Windows 7 to load with GPU drivers installed/an alternate way of running a game with Safedisk DRM.

Browser, version and OS: Modded Windows 10 Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened? Not sure What happened? I received a computer with windows 10 installed, but the computer doesn't support windows 10. It was modified for this system since Windows 10 was never meant for this computer. It is the Aurora R3. It has been acting glitchy after a couple of weeks and eventually it shuts down when doing light things such as browsing the web. I just need a windows 7 system clean backup to install on my computer to go back so the shutdowns don't occur again. Screenshots of the issue, if applicable: I don't have any Any other relevant details: Screen starts to flicker and my mouse cursor stops moving. If anyone has a clean windows 7 system backup I can use to help restore my computer, not sure how to uninstall the windows 10 from this computer. p.s made this account for some help for this reason

Hello, I've just installed Windows 7 on my PC,(Windows 10 wasn't performing well). -Downloaded chrome and essential drivers. -extra software downloaded are :- Google Chrome AutoHotkey SciTE4Autohotkey [editor for AHK] AHK-Studio [another editor for AHK] Notepad++ Everything by Voidtools Downloaded each from their website.(I've basic knowledge of "Secure Browsing") That's it nothing else, haven't even activated Windows yet! So, I don't think it is malware or something. (fig.1) SciTE4Autohotkey is unable to update - (fig.2) Same goes for AHK-Studio. It is stuck on initial update check. Apart from these 2, other programs are able to connect to internet. I haven't touched Firewall or any other settings. I've no idea what is causing this. I've tried this, still not solved. Any information would be helpful. Thank You!

Hey LTT friends, I cloned PC-A drives which was on Win7 and I want to put these cloned drives on PC-B which is a fresh install. Does PC-B absolutely have to be Win7 to be able to accept the cloned drives or can my PC-B be Win10 and have no issues? I hope I'm making sense... I have a key for win10 so it would be a waste to not use it but before I do anything and possibly lose all my data, I wanted to know if this was possible. Thanks for any help/advice, I greatly appreciate you all and what you do!

I have this old Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit PC that I want to update to the latest version of Windows 7. Windows Update doesn't work anymore and it gives a Code 80072EFE error when I try to check for updates. For all I know it has never been updated since 2011(When this machine was setup) because it says "Updates were installed: Never" and I'm not even sure if it's a legit copy of Windows at this point and that worries me a bit. It does say Windows is activated though, I think it uses a Volume License key, but the store sold the prebuilt as a individual system Is it possible to update this machine using a bootable USB? If it is possible, how? And to roll it back to a restore point just in case. I did something similar to a Windows 10 machine that wouldn't update, but Microsoft's Media Creation Tool basically did that for me. Will this method from howtogeek work? The problem is the "Downoad and Install SP1 Separately" link that direct to Microsoft's site no longer work, does anyone have an alternate link? Is there a different method I don't know of? I know it's easier to do a clean install but this machine has different old programs and data still in use, and yes, I keep constant backups using AOMEI because I expect it to fail. I'm just trying to prolong it as much as possible before it gets a replacement. To sum it up: What method to use to update a possibly not legit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit?

Sooooooo long story short had the typical Ebay OEM key for Win7 Home Premium which was perfectly valid, decided to keygen my way to Win 7 Ultimate (I wanted to change my language setting from my mothertongue to english, as it was sometimes causing issues and generally it's easier for me to have all devices in same language). Got the fake ultimate key, pop it into "Windows Anytime Upgrade".... surprise, it works! PC upgrades OS, everythings fine... except when I go into "about PC" it says "3 days before automatic activation. Activate Windows Now", so I confidently paste the key once again... but this time it responds that the key is not valid, despite having allowed me to make the upgrade before. Alright, time to downgrade then, right? WRONG. Little did I know that downgrading is apparently impossible, and now I completely butchered my favorite OS and my main PC. So here's my question: what is possible to do now? Obviously Windows 7 is outdated, I know. But it's just so beautiful and easy to use that I cannot part ways from it not mention having had a working key registered to this computer. Is there a workaround to downgrade to Home without losing data? (My C drive is 1TB SSD that is 70% full, I literally have no way to copy it elsewhere, my secondary drive is a mere 500GB HDD that only has 100GB left so not an option to get files onto it either). I also have a few programs that are no longer available and/or I lost the installation files, plus some (SonicStage for my Sony NetMD recorder for instance) that are impossible to install on windows 10 (also my Canon printer driver refused to be installed on my laptop with a preinstalled win10, so that can also be problematic) Option 2: I have a Windows 10 Ultimate key that SHOULD work (if not, I have a Windows 10 home install DVD, but no key). If there is absolutely no way to get windows 7 working I'd obviously rather have a working PC even if it will be awful to use. How do I perform an upgrade without clean install if that is even possible anymore? I know, I have brough it on myself, and I fully recognise that I screwed up badly (and illegally), so any help will be much appreciated 人(_ _*) Best Regards, Dan

Hi, im having issues with my pc after i uninstalled Windows 10. Here's the full story, My laptop originaly was running Windows 7, then i installed Windows 10 but on another partition then I deleted Windows 10 by just deleting the partition in Windows 7 so I didn't delete Windows 10 properly (I think) I replaced Windows 10 with Manjaro XFCE. Now evey time I start my computer grub will pop up and if I choose Manjaro Linux everything work excellent but if I choose Windows it will have a blue screen and I will have to press F9 to boot into Windows 7. Please help me cuz the blue screen is extremely annoying. If you have a solution reply and if u don't thx for reading it anyway.

So, I was doing research on my potato laptop, core i3 2330m, 4gb ram, windows 7 32bit and i discovered Readyboost and adding more ram via usb flash drive. I found some sandisk drives on Amazon (2x32) for a total of 64gb of storage. I’m wondering, will it add 64gb of ram to my system? Or is there some division that goes on and changes up the number. I plan to use one or both sticks through readyboost. Thanks for the tech tips.

Today I went to my tough book, I log on at least every day. But today something happened, I turned it on and it said configuring updates. so I sat there for about 30 minutes watching the screen, when it said it was done it loaded genuine windows 7 professional, the OS I use every day. But when it booted it showed a blue screen saying my PC was out of date and no longer supported, I know it was discontinued but, still. So I then checked the specs of my PC to see if I could upgrade to windows 10, but the requirements are to much for my pc, so I cant upgrade or it could damage my laptop. I need help asap!

Hello o/ this is my first post and I hope this is the right place to ask. I own a Roccat Ryos MK Glow and would like to trigger macros/the secondary function without having to *hold down* the Easy-Shift-key. The driver-software doesn't seem to support that functionality so I hope someone here has an idea what file I could edit to change that.
