A while ago I upgraded my laptop to a 500gb ssd. I recently needed to grab some of my log ins (google) off the old one so i took out the new one and put the old one back in. After doing the work I put back in the 500gb one and now it wont boot to windows. I am using windows 10. I suspect its something to do with the windows licence. I need this laptop for school tomorrow as it has my work saved and I have not backed anything up. The keyboard also is not working I suspect a cable I moved or drivers but that is not important. Laptop Specs: Acer Spin 3 (SPN-314-53N-7464) i7 8th gen (i7-8565U) 12 gb ram (upgraded from 8gb) 500gb crucial p2 ssd (old one sandisk Z400s 128gb) 1tb hdd

I gave my friend an old pc I had (still worked at the time I gave it to him, I tested it) I reset windows, installed drivers for cpu, gpu, and motherboard, but when he boots it now it freezes, however when he boots it after leaving the psu off for hours, it works just fine, but when he has to restart for driver updates, windows updates, or just turning it off after use, it freezes and shows a "booting into automatic repair" , just to boot loop on that screen over and over. Has anyone else had this issue?

So I build PCs for my friends and stuff, but whenever I give it to them (at the point where they put their info into Windows installer) I want it to already have graphics drivers (before the installation is complete). How would I do that?

Hello, I am trying to connect my Samsung Note 9 to my Razer Blade 15 2019 via the Your Phone app. I managed to get my phone connected to my desktop but it will not connect to my laptop. I am logged in on both devices with the same Microsoft account. WHen I use the LInk to WIndows settings app on my phone and add a device, it detects my laptop and then will show a code. But my laptop never asks for a code and instead stays stuck on the screen shown below. I have tried restarting, updating and rinstalling the programs but to no avail. Help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Hello, So recently I upgraded from a Ryzen 1600 + B350 to a Ryzen 5600x + X570. I was excited and in a rush, didn’t bother to back up my boot drive. Here I am 9 hours later. So I had the NVME in the PC, it booted to a BSOD with error message “Critical Service Error.” Thought it was a driver issue so I booted to safemode and it worked! While accessing my desktop, I thought the issue was drivers so I downloaded Asus Armoury and upgraded them. After a restart and then a shutdown, I was greeted with the second BSOD, “Kernel Data Inpage Error”. Thought I’ll try safemode again, didn’t work. I grabbed my USB with Windows Installation to reinstall windows, but I can’t do that without deleting my data. I don’t want to do that. My recovery options are limited and I tried using CMD, but it won’t let me use commands. My windows is on a drive called X: and C: is completely empty. It also says there are no windows installations. I seriously appreciate your guys’ help in advance. Thank you all for your time and dedication to this forum. Pictures are below.

Hello, My NVME SSD recently switched motherboards and had trouble booting. I checked on CMD and running CHKDSK found no errors. I don’t want anything to be deleted as I have data on it, and after checking the files in the boot drive, there is no Windows folder. Only a Windows.Old. I don’t know how or why this happened but I think that might be a problem. I want to make my M.2 SSD bootable and with all its files. Let me know what to do to fix, appreciate the help!

I think my graphics card (an EVGA 780Ti SC) might have bricked itself? You can see my full PC specs on my profile The short story is that Windows (Pro, 64-bit) has automatically disabled my GPU (Code 43 in device manager) and there's nothing I seem to be able to do about it. The long story is... The night before my woes I shut down my computer and it had no updates pending install, so everything seemed normal. The next day I powered up my computer and I think I hit enter after typing my password when the screen froze and after doing nothing for a bit, I got a BSoD whose apparent cause was "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION". I restarted my computer and basically the same thing happened again, however this time the display freaked out a little before it BSoDed with the same error. It then got stuck in a boot loop for a couple of cycles before starting up again, at which point I was able to log in, but very shortly after the display freaked out (I got all kinds of funny shapes and colours) before it died and put itself into recovery mode and I rebooted it again. This time it started in a funky resolution and let me into windows just fine, at which point I realised that it was running with no driver active. Interestingly, with the GPU physically installed, CPU-Z can tell what it is, but can't seem to access any operating statistics such as clock speed and memory capacity. I have tried everything which I (and others) can think of to get windows to accept my GPU again... I have: Fully updated windows Completely physically removed my GPU and reseated it Uninstalled the GPU from the system in Device Manager and re-discovered it Run DDU in safe mode Installed a 3 month old driver through device manager Installed the latest driver from GeForce Experience Put it in another system, but the screen went black and remained blank when the driver was installed I haven't tried reinstalling Windows because I've had to do it before and I want to avoid that inconvenience at all costs - is there anything else I can try? I've bought a PSU tester to verify that it isn't a power supply issue. Could it be a corrupted VBIOS?

Got an SSD for my mom's PC and i'm going to install Windows 10 on it, she wants it activated and is willing to pay, But spending $139 for basic Win10 Home from MS sounds crazy to me when i see there's multiple ebay listings for W10 Pro at around $50-65+ brand new for the key + disc or USB in box, over $100 cheaper than from MS...now before i go ahead and buy, Is there anything i'm missing here? What reason would anyone want to buy straight from MS and spend full price?

I recently got a new PC, everytime we tried booting it up with the USB stick we had Windows 10 installed on it would stay on a black screen with the Blue windows logo and no loading symbol of any kind. We've tried a lot of things already like using another USB/External Hard drive, turning it on and off, etc. We've been trying to get it past that screen for hours now and don't know what to do. If anyone can help, it'll be appreciated.

While I was checking for new updates for Windows after I did a clean install via Boot Camp, I noticed this strange update that will seemingly pop-up on the downloads list, but would not download or install for some reason. It is a "2021-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5001649)" and after a few attempt of installing it, it just ends up with the stop code as shown in the photo (apparently a failed update error). Doing a research of that particular KB, or any of the latest current available Windows update proved nothing, as this update somehow "does not exist yet". No malware alerts so far from Kaspersky, so it isn't one; but it just wouldn't go away from the update screen. Kinda annoying, like Microsoft's teasing or something. Maybe someone here has the same conundrum, just lemme know. UPDATE: So apparently it is a patch that removes Adobe Flash Player permanently from the system, along with a fix related to BSODs while printing on 20H2 systems. "Once installed, it cannot be removed." As of this edit, the update still refuses to push through in Windows Updates in Settings. While I haven't experienced that issue while using my Canon printer at home, I might just install it anyway for the Flash Player removal. I will keep this thead open should any issue pop up regarding this update until futher notice. Thanks everyone! For some time i wanted to replace a drive in my laptop. I take up 200GBs of space on a 700GB disc so I bought a 256GB SSD. I thought I'll jus run Macrium Reflect cloning and it will go smoothly, but the process always stops at 37% even though the connection is secure and there is no antivirus enabled. I tried to check the sectors using EaseUS partition master and it showed 2 bad sectors. I cannot use EaseUS disk copy because I can't resize partitions in this program. I know i could run CHKDSK but im extremely scared it will damage the drive and destroy my windows copy and all the important files. What do you think I should do? I'm scared i can't do anything. If I don't run CHKDSK i will not be able to copy the disc files, but if I do there is a chance I'll lose everything. Is there a solution I can't see? Maybe I could copy the contents of the drive onto the new one some other, safe way.

I am stumped and am in need of some advice. Apologies for the rambling backstory. Looking back the weirdness started probably a few weeks ago. Upon starting up my desktop I noticed my icons were all out of order and somewhat jumbled up. After dragging one to a new location they snapped to normal and I decided to ignore it. (This still happens every start-up). A few days went by and while watching a live stream I encountered my first freeze. No BSOD, cursor still moving, file explorer working. I opened task manager to kill chrome and nothing happened. After closing task manager to retry I was left with the ghost of the 'task manager' dialogue box on my desktop. (I like to right click the task bar and select task manager). Completely unable to reopen task manager and the rest of my computer beginning to lock up I decided to restart. After opening the start menu and clicking on restart, my computer refused to restart. I was able to open and close the start menu and click shutdown, restart and sleep to my hearts content and nothing. After hard restarting, I went several more days issue free. By this time Nvidia released a new driver which I downloaded and installed. I figured it was a fluke and maybe this new driver would confirm that a video driver was not the issue, and low and behold the issue persists. The next freeze was while browsing the internet with Spotify playing in the background. This time all the same things happened except my audio was stuck in a 1 second repeating loop and I was unable to close or kill Spotify in task manager. One hard restart later and I was freeze free for another week. I have had two more "incidents" exactly the same as the previous, all occurring completely at random, one while watching a video and the most recent while working on a PowerPoint and listening to Spotify. Same audio loop, unable to kill it, but was able to save my work right before PowerPoint froze up. Upon restarting and moving one desktop icon to fix the 'jumble' I ran a memtest which came out clean. I plan on running a windows defender deep scan and a chckdsk tonight and will reply to this post with the results. I also run NZXT's new CAM software with an overclock and will be switching over to the old version to see if that has any effect. (Never has frozen while playing games which makes me think the overclock is not the problem, have also had the same overclock for ~2 years no problem). Otherwise I am grasping at straws at this point. I am in need of thoughts and opinions. Thanks

Not sure if this is the right place to post but, I have an old VGA monitor that I'm trying to use as a second display (as extended display) for a relatively new laptop via an HDMI to VGA adapter. Initially it would display the second desktop shifted to one side then after talking to Microsoft and messing around with resolution and scaling in Windows the best I could get it to display was a desktop that is cut off around the edges and does not show the task bar. Just to see what would happen I changed the orientation to landscape flipped in the settings and it displays everything correctly! But then goes back to being cut off when going back to normal landscape. Why is this happening?? Has anyone else had this happen??? Is there a way to make it show the full desktop in normal orientation? (I have updated the drivers as part of the troubleshooting process and there is no overscan option on the monitor )

Hey everyone! I have a problem with my current setup, I have a laptop screen which is 4k and two monitors that have different resolution, and configured like this: Screen 1 is my laptop and the others are my monitors. The problem is is that those monitors are physically much larger then they seem due to their different resolution. Is there anyway i can change the physical size within these settings? Because it would be nice if i could go from screen 2 to 3 with my mouse without going through screen 1. Thanks!

I recently got a WD Blue SN550 1TB SSD and I installed it into my system, but when I did I noticed one of my 2TB drives weren't showing up in the BIOS or in Windows. I read my motherboard manual and kicked myself as I read that ports 4 and 5 were disabled if an M.2 is installed. I swapped the hard drive to a different port, (port 1 instead of 5) and booted up. The drive is still not recognized by windows or the BIOS. I just wanted to know any possible fixes before I go trying anything else, thanks in advance.

So, i have a strange problem, i say strange cuz i have no idea what could cause it and also the fact that i cant see anyone with the same problem on the internet no matter how hard i look. So, i just build my on pc, here are the specs : -CPU:Ryzen 5 3600X -MOTHER BOAR Gigabyte b450m ds3h -8GB DDR4 RAM -HAR Kingston A400 240GB ssd -NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1050 TI So, i got all those together, from my knwoledge all these componets should work fine together. I install my windows, and all its fine and well except the fact that the displayed resolution of my monitor is very low, but besides this all works fine. At first i installed my wifi adapter driver and started browsing the internet for a second, then the screen turned black, restarded, it shows the windows logo for like two seconds and then it turns black again. I was thinking that maybe it was some strange problem with the instalation so i reinstalled windows. Same steps, same problem, after i install the wifi adapter driver it takes like 1-3 mins until it goes black. Ok, maybe its the driver. Reinstalled the windows again, started with the GPU driver this time, same thing, but this time it goes black during the instalation of the driver. Reinstalled windows again, same thing. On my next try i get some programs and start installing them, like honeyview and winrar. I installed them and all went well. Watched some videos from a stick, all went well again. Procedeed again with driver instalation, and again, black. I managed to enter safemode with networking but it actually had no networking working. Anyway, the pc can see all the components, the SSD, GPU, CPU all of them, and in safe mode it even told me that the GPU driver and the wifi drivers are installed. So i did another test, reinstalled windows, installed the wifi driver fast and got in time to Netflix before the black screen thing happened. As i assumed, while the screen is black the sound still goes on in the background, the player runs. I tried pluggin and unplugging my GPU and RAM, of course reinstalled windows many times, tried to use the windows troubleshooter, nothing worked. Maybe its worth mentioning that this CPU has no graphic chip at all, so its all on the GPU to display anything and the fact that the my monitor is kinda old. If anyone has any idea, i would deeply apreciate any advice. Later on i will try to start installing a diffrent driver, and i will update this. It also works in safe mode and my pc can see the components. p.s its windows 10 home 64 bit/ Sorry for the long post. Another thing, i tried installing Linux Ubuntu, the instalation works fine but then it just does not boot, or at least its not displayed.

windows10 Random crashes and CRAZY Cpu frequency in task manager
Calsterman posted a topic in Windows
Hi, i´ve got a problem with one of my lower end systems. Windows will randomly crash (between about 2 - 20 minutes) and it displays completely crazy cpu frequencys in task manager. We are talking about it displaying frequencys like 21130833,62 GHZ (random number as an example because i have a photo of it). If i open CPUID Monitor it shows the correct frequencies. I dont know if the two corelate or if they have nothing to do with each other. The following specs are in the system: i5-2500k 16GB (4x4GB RAM) AMD r9 270x 500W PSU 120GB SSD I already tried the following things: Changing PSU Changing Graphics card pulling ram out and testing all sticks individually or in dual channel cahnging ssd fresh install of windows (Also all temperatures are in check) I really dont know how to fix this and unless one of you has a solution, i will have to buy a new motherboard/CPU (Sorry for bad english and thank you for your help) Calsterman -

I have it stuck on there and when I try to boot into safe mode I have the same problem, and I don't have a recovery point set either. And I need the data in there. Edit: I did a startup repair and this is the log file.srttrail.pdf

This week, I started to have problems with the Office 365 programs. Once I opened them on my Windows 10 system, only a black screen appeared. On all of them except Teams and Outlook. I've tried to work on a Powerpoint presentation on my browser, and all of the Microsoft websites were "blocked". Today I've tried to open the Minecraft launcher, and that had a black screen too. The Microsoft store also has a black screen. How do I fix this?

TLDR: Certain apps (Search, Microsoft Store, and Sticky Notes) are not recognizing my keyboard while other applications are (Spotify, Edge, and Steam). Most likely software issue (Happening with other keyboards) Using Windows 10 (19042.746), on a ASUS G14 Laptop. Problem/Info: My keyboard is not being recognized in Settings, Search Bar, Sticky Notes, Microsoft Store, and the Xbox App. It is working in Spotify, Steam, and Microsoft Edge. I can type in the address bar of file explorer, but I cannot search in file explorer (This File Explorer thing is very confusing to me) I have tried the onscreen keyboard and a different keyboard, but both are having the same results. This is leading me to believe it is a software issue. I am using a ASUS G14 Laptop, Windows 10 Home (19042.746). I have my Laptop plugged into power, and in high performance power mode. Not sure if this means anything, but in Task Manager the tasks "Search" and "Windows Shell Experience Host" are suspended with the green leaf (UWP Process Group is suspended...) next to them. The issue is not that I am not getting any results when I search. The issue is that I cannot type anything to search Possible Issues: TaskBarX was installed. Downloaded from GitHub. Uninstalling it did not change anything, so I doubt that was the issue. Not sure if there is anything else. Only thing that I did between it working and not working was shutting down my laptop. Solutions I have tried: Restart Laptop multiple times Windows Virus Scans (nothing came up) Onscreen Keyboard Different Keyboard (Bluetooth) Running cftmon.exe (as recommended here) Uninstalling/Updating Keyboard Drivers (HID Keyboard Device in Device Manager) Solution Mentioned in Comments Here Ran "sfc /scannow" in Admin Powershell Ending/Restarting Windows Explorer Restarting Windows Search Service This powershell script thing Rebuilding Index Disabling Bing Search Resetting Windows Search via this Powershell Script provided by Microsoft Similar Post Regarding This: "Keyboard not working on start menu" Thanks in advance!

Hi there Linustech forums! I have an issue and would like to know what the cause of it is. I can narrow it down myself to a few things, but its still too much to be considered. I'd like to have some assistance with the process. I have many details and already know this post is too long, but I don't know how I can compress this any further. (sorry !) My problem: I sometimes find my desktop after being away from keyboard, to have a black screen, unresponsive to user input and that the fan's are spinning at 100% (not all, possibly just the GPU, maybe CPU too. Case fan's are not affected). Turning down the machine by short-pressing the power button on the desktops case does turn it down. A fresh boot right after will results in a black screen after loading and displaying the UEFI splash screen. Once this event is triggered, the same restart procedure as before gives the same result, meaning that it is stuck in black screen after UEFI splash screen. This also happens when i am not running any programs. (happens when i wake up and boot and come back after shower) Workaround: I hope this workaround gives some indicators as to what the problem may be. Extra details: Artifacts: Gaming artifacts: System Health I have latest drivers and my full-malware scan (Avast set as sensitive & scan all completely) came back clean. Most of my hardware is just under a year old. I take care of it both in software as in hardware. Overclocking: I think by default intel turbo is enabled and also memory-XMP profile is set. Besides that, I generally do not overclock. (I like my silent system haha) My specs: PSU: 650W CPU: i5-9600K GPU: MSI GeForce® RTX 2070 Super, 8GB, Gaming X RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB(2x8GB) 3200MHz CL16 Boot device: Samsung 940 M2 NVMe MOBO: MSI Z370-A PRO BIOS: 2.B0 from 1/07/2020 (according to CPUZ) What i think: I think it could be my GPU that is dying. But it does not make sense to me that it is a hardware issue when i can still see things when I enter the UEFI. Besides, how would this work arround have such in impact that it either works or doesn't? it confuses the hell out of me. That's why i also think it could be software related. I hope it is related to a windows update or something I can still access my desktop with the workaround but it makes me feel unease about it all. i am looking forward to your insights! Nick J

I don't know how to insert a image here so the screen shot is here: https://ftp.bmp.ovh/imgs/2021/02/10ca5ca798ccc2e2.png I can't remember when it first appeared, and I thought widows know what that is so that it wouldn't border my work. Until this morning my computer says there is no enough RAM to play a video.... And it comes up every time I turn on my computer....

Hello, I recently upgraded my build from a 1600 + B350 to a 5600x + x570. At first, I moved my NVME SSD to my new motherboard and that caused many problems, so many BSOD. I decided to put my old motherboard and cpu back with the NVME and it still boots and works. I did a recovery installation and kept my files, then I moved it over, and I still have problems. Any help? I backed up a system image in case things go south. I’ll also export the important files too. Here’s what I noticed (on the new motherboard, old one boots fine) : - In CMD, the NVME is for some reason listed as a RAW drive. No idea why. I tried doing format fs=nsft (or whatever) and it went to 100% and said it couldn’t do it. - Windows Media Installation will not format the new NVME nor delete its partitions, error code 0x800701b1. Thanks in advance

Hello, so I have a problem I believe with my Windows 10. The first time I noticed was when I couldn't suddenly click anything on my task bar, nothin opens, or it takes literally 5 minutes to open and there will be 5+ of the window open. So initially, I can't click the windows start button, file explorer, notifications, audio, time. I had tried searching it up but no one is really having the same problem as me, someone said to go into task manager but I literally cannot open it. Also to let you know, this problem only happens sometimes. I will boot my pc and everything is working flawlessly with speed, then sometimes my screen goes black, my monitor turns off, but the computer is still running, keyboard mouse are lit up, but no response to the computer whatsoever, forcing me to restart. This is often frustrating especially when you're working on an essay and it disappears losing all my work. So initially, I have two problems, I have 0 clue if they are in any way connected, or why this is happening. I am currently having the problem right now where I cant open anything on the taskbar, but my computer is still on and I am working.
