Just wondering if people knew about this? I didn't know until I asked Microsoft about it and a day ago I confirmed that it works 100%. I used a retail boxed windows 7 key, so I'm guessing it would be the exact same with windows 8 keys. Also I think you mite have to have installed update 1155 to have it work, though I'm not a 100% because I waited until I updated that to try it.

Hey guys! I was just wondering if you bought a new laptop right now (buying one soon for school) that has Windows 8.1 pre-loaded, if you could still upgrade to Windows 10. Is the deal still avaliable? And if it is, does it work for brand new laptops? I already upgraded my gaming pc, and I love W10. Would be great to have it on the laptop too. Thanks!

Let me start at the begging, About 4 months ago I spilled milk on my laptop's keyboard some of the keys stopped working (q, a, s). I find an old keyboard that my dad is not using and started to use that, it was here where I discovered that they board would type "z" when I press the letter "s". so I say that'z fine thinking the problem was with the keyboard, so I download a program called "Microsoft keyboard layout creator" and make a new layout remapping the letter "s" to type when I press the letter "z" and the letter "z" to type when I press "s". Except then the key "s" would still type s even though I remapped it to type the letter z. Fast forward a few months (few weeks ago) I decided to look at some computer parts to build me a new rig. So I decided to wait until january when I have enough money to splash on the computer. Today I saw a great deal for a g710+ keyboard for $50 in a local hardware store near me so I decided to buy it. So now i'm sitting with a brand new keyboard having the same problem where pressing the s key would type the letter z. I'm getting really frustrated because whenever I have to type a paper I need to copy and paste the letter s for it to work. I took a picture of my onscreen keyboard to show that in fact all the keys are mapped correctly but it is not typing them correctly. This is a very unique problem and has never happened to me before. I'd like to send a special shout out to auto correct https://i.gyazo.com/f580dead41976c54eeb264842fcd7c9d.png

Greetings. I had grown rather attached to a certain feature of OSX called 'Quick Look', which would bring up a quick preview of a selected file by pressing the spacebar, and would allow me to quickly navigate through files with the arrow keys. However, the Windows 8 photo viewer does not allow this, and instead takes up the entire screen. Is there an app that performs similarly to Quick Look? (Or even OSX Preview, for what it's worth). Regards, Aereldor.

Hi, so I'm planning on getting a new system this holiday season and I'm wondering which operating system I should buy. Here's a list of the available operating systems for sale on retail here arranged from least expensive to most expensive - Win8.1 OEM 32/64 bit medialess* Win8 Pro FPP Win8.1 OEM 64 bit *I have no idea what the "medialess" there means by the way. And the difference in prices of the ones listed above aren't that huge, but I'd rather save that little bit of cash anyway. So, I'm wondering which one here grants me full access to upgrade to Windows 10. Are there different versions of Windows 10? If there are, should I be concerned? This is the cheapest way to get Windows 10, right? Any tips?

EDIT: Wrong Section, meant to post this to Troubleshooting. Background So awhile ago I had been recieving blue screens from any windows update other than a vanilla OS on Windows 8.1, when the free update came I had installed 10 and it was smooth sailing from there on, but recently I had blue screened out of rare occurrence and windows automatically installed all of its updates upon rebooting. Which then caused me to blue screen every 3-10 minutes. I tried to simply uninstall the updates like I had done a few times before which worked fine, but this time a few of the updates where not able to be uninstalled. So i tried to do a system restore to the day prior to this happening, which as said above, I blue screen, which lead to me blue screening during system recovery. I then tried to reboot and was welcomed to a black screen without my usual password login, displaying a simple Driver Error with my Wacom tablet, you could tell windows was still there in the background, but nothing was able to escape it. We tried an image restoration, and the image restore went down with windows. My last hope to my knowledge is to reinstall windows. The Loop So here I am, trying to reinstall windows. Mashing esc to boot into a USB [Other options wouldnt even do anything] with Windows 8 on it, since Windows 10 replaced my keys with Generic keys after we had them pulled off a Geeksquad USB. So those didnt work, we where found to have a Windows 8.1 Key, and a Windows 10 Key, both where generic, and would not be accepted by Windows 10 installers, nor did the 8.1 key work. So I put a Windows 8 installer on the USB and the motherboard picked the key up fine unlike the others for other versions. When I try to install via "Upgrade" [Note: system is on Windows 10, trying to reinstall to 8] I would be greeted with a message telling me "Windows has started using the recovery media,......" and I would have to boot normally and plug it back in, so I did, but, hence the reason I need to reinstall windows, It will not open or detect it, or anything for that matter. So what my last hope is, doing the "Advanced Option" and dealing with deleteing / formatting partitions. Which i know nothing about sadly. There are 5 Partitions, I know nothing about what to do with them, I read usually you have multiple ones if you have multiple drives, I only have 1 Drive in this laptop. So I am here, wondering if anyone here can help me out of this situation. Q: I was told "In theory" my key is tied to my motherboard, and removing the main drive my key will still be detected if i put in a new drive and try and reinstall windows 8. If that would work, I would then format the original drive with the corrupted OS. Q: I was told that I can just simply delete EVERY partition, and then just select the single last partition that would be by default there. And install from there. Picture of partitions Message I get via "Upgrade" option

Soo i just cleaned out the old desktop computer and found this Wi-Fi USB antenna that is actually pretty good. My internet speed is 75-75 and somehow i managed to get 80 download, 79 upload and 16 ms. Although, cable is more superiour, i wondered if i could let the cable do the gaming and wifi do like the background (teamspeak, steam, spotify etc). Is that possible? kinda like the x99 motherboards with dual ethernet. Thanks! DxDiag.txt

Hey everyone, I just finished building a new PC the other day, and that all went very well. Of course being a first time builder I opted to go with windows as my OS, and I was able to get a free version of win.7 through a program at my school. So I downloaded the ISO, got the key and everything, but when I use the M.S. USB/DVD Download tool, I get the 'bootsect' error when I try to use the 64 bit ISO and put in onto my USB thumb drive. It worked just fine with the 32bit. It says on the online help that I need the bootsect.exe in order to make a bootable drive with the 64bit OS, so i just need a way to either get the bootsect file (since like I said, I got the windows program/key through DreamSpark, not through the MS Store) since I can't just use the "drop down next to my purchase of Win.7" on the MS Store. I just ended up going with the 32bit for now since I am not currently doing anything other than school work on the comp, and the 4GB limit isn't constricting too much right now, but I want to have access to all of my RAM! Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, GH4

After moving to a new flat, I have noticed that my computer has begun to behave extremely weirdly. My observations: - Mouse cuts off for 1-2 seconds, then comes back on (mouse lights done turn off) - Mobo "Gigabyte" Logo displays for around 30 seconds when starting up. - With the screens turned off, the computer runs for about 20 seconds after being turned off - Opening up a drive (eg. E:) takes a very long time, and sometimes fails. - Weird browser related glitches, desktop icons sometimes appear through chrome. This is all on a brand new install of Windows 8 (all updated), my specs are: -i5 3570k -Gigabyte 7950 -2x4 1600 mhz corsair ram - Gigabyte Ga-Z77-D3H Motherboard - Samsung 840 Series MZ-7TD 120GB SSD (C: Drive) If there is anything, anything anyone can suggest, Ill do it.

Hey everyone, I've just received a Transformer Book T100TA that my brother's fiancé wanted. The guy said it comes with Windows 10. However, not only is it not Windows 10 (it's the preview), he also seems to have messed up the installation and now WiFi does not work properly. I asked for the Windows 8 key, but he doesn't have it. The one I got with Windows Product Key Viewer does not work with the Windows 8 Setup that MS hosts. I don't know if that's because it's an OEM, it's a pirated key or it's simply plain wrong. He sent me a Windows 7 key instead, but I checked it and it's an OEM. I doubt very much that it'll work, and he said I should try and if it didn't work he'd "find another one" (pirate much?) As of now, I could probably use PayPal customer protection to get my money back and send him the thing back. But that'd suck because it was a pretty good offer and she's on a budget. Is this safe at all or what should I do? Cheers!

Hello everyone, I've ran into some issues with installing an OS on my system. I bought a used laptop running Windows 8.1 trial, i.e. not activated. My plan was to buy Windows 7 (because it's so much cheaper), install it and immediately upgrade to Windows 10. Now, I can't seem to get Windows 7 to install correctly (drivers, display (at 4k), and the thing installed to the USB, not the SSD, and it's an OEM...) Can I just download the Windows 10 .iso, run it and use my Windows 7 key for it, or am I pretty much screwed and should have spent a bit more on 8.1 to begin with? Cheery, Jonas

So i need to install a copy of windows onto a new PC that i will build in December. I have my Windows 8.1 OEM product key but no disk. My brother has a windows 8.1 home disk that I might use, along with my OEM product key. However i don't even know if this will work and if so i don't have any idea about how to deactivate/uninstall windows on my current pc before swapping the same install of windows to a completly new PC. Can you please explain how i might do it if it even works in the first place.

Hi everyone, I recently got the go to update to Windows 10, however whenever I try to update , it always reboots back to the desktop with my current version of Windows installed. I did some digging around and apparently, my PC is missing some key OS files, and I assume I can't upgrade unless I have all the files I need. I've decided to do a reinstall of Windows, however I'm not sure how the process should go. I'm going to boot off a USB and will reinstall from there, however I'm not sure if I will need to put in my CD key again, as it should already be tied to the computer. Will I need to reactivate my CD- key if I'm reinstalling? Any help I can get is much appreciated!

So for obvious reasons Ive been wanting upgrade to Windows 10 on my laptop. However, for other reasons that aren't necessarily relevant I DO want to keep Windows 8 on it... interesting predicament. I was wondering if anyone has experience dual booting operating systems on a laptop or in general. I'm assuming it's fairly simple? (Install 10 ISO on a USB Drive, create a partition in system memory, etc. Etc.)I'm sure I'm not the only one to think of this, but I just wanted to get people's opinions and experiences. Thanks so much.

For the past 6 month since after I rebuild my computer after changing the graphics and cooling for my computer. every time I turn on the computer from a cold boot it will turn on and pause at the screen where it starts to load windows. it stays like this for about 3 minutes then turns off. when I then turn the computer on after that it will boot perfectly and on takes about <1 minute to load windows and will work fine after that. some times when I turn it off after that it will turn on fine and some times it will do the same thing again or it may go into windows recovery. note: I think it may have to do with the hard drive being place into different sata ports. since originally installed win8 i have tried resetting the bios but that has not helped Pc specs: cpu: amd fx9590 motherboard: asrock 990FX Extreme9 gpu: amd r9 295x2 240gb ssd 320gb hard drive 500gb hard drive 4000gb hard drive blue ray player parts that where replace navidia msi geforce gt630 any other details feel free to ask
