EDIT: I have "worked around" this problem by using Rufus to create a UEFI-only installation USB. Guess I'll have to rely on having 2 USBs instead of one. Well, not too bad considering I have more than enough USB sticks. Thanks everyone for your input! ___ Dear LTT forumers, I am struggling to create a bootable USB drive for the installation of Win8.1. "Wait a minute, Win8.1 is terrible and receives no support, don't install it!" - Thanks for worrying, but I have reasons which I can not disclose due to an NDA. I need to be able to install W8.1 on both UEFI and Legacy systems. Currently, I am struggling with creating it properly. I have been following this video, but my USB does not boot into UEFI mode, only in legacy. What am I doing wrong? Thanks a lot!

An issue that plagues certain applications is how they keep using the Classic theme buttons and controls when the rest of Windows has completely abandoned them. They look completely wrong, and I hate it! How do I fix this? I would prefer to force these applications to support visual styles (to look right on Windows 8 and above) rather than using any mods or customization software just to restore the classic theme to Windows itself and make Windows look a certain way just so these applications can look right. This primarily affects Kega Fusion, an emulator with virtually no alternative. I had to create a virtual machine just to run it! If you all need screenshots to jog your memory as to what I am even complaining about, then just ask. Technically this has actually been an issue since Windows XP and the introduction of visual styles, but you were able to just switch back to the classic theme. Windows and the (badly designed) application would still look right. Windows 8 got rid of the classic theme. Attempts to bring it back always result in either a visual disaster with Windows itself now looking horribly broken (but at least those applications now look right) or Windows being completely broken, the main GUI being completely unusable.

Ever since Windows Vista. Now I'm running windows 11 and I have to go in to settings every other day to sync the time. There is no issue with my CMOS, as two of my Ubuntu drives in the system run fine and keep the time without having me to sync them at all on the same system. How on earth do I fix the time for Windows 11?

Hoping to find some experts on the matter... Basically i got this 4-7 years old Lenovo thinkpad e450 laptop with windows 8.1 on it, tried to backup some files that were saved on it and then reset it to factory settings. While messing around with it i noticed that even while the charger was connected for some moments the laptop wouldnt recognize the charger, thus no power was delivered. I shrugged it off since it happened only twice and just for couple minutes... later on i noticed that it happened again but this time more than just a couple of minutes passed and no power input was detected. Ive tried going to the device manager window and then deleting the battery devices under the "Batteries" section, the laptop's display went brighter (as it does when its connected to power) and thought thats probably it... restarted the laptop, again doesnt charge and again im deleting the battery from the devices manager. After a while the laptop turned off and i couldnt power it on anymore. Ive read about it and found out that this problem was quite common on windows 8 (also other versions) but couldnt find a defenetive answear. Does anybody know what to do at this kind of state? Thanks for your time...

short version: Need help with WIndows 8 because old laptop running WIndows 10 slow and most of the drivers are made for Win8, laptop is Asus X450CC, need an in-depth guide cause its my first time whole story: I'm getting a new SSD soon for this laptop cause I'm still using X450CC slow as fuck HDD, so I'm gonna need reinstall everything anyway, so I might as well just revert this laptop back to Win8. The reason it was upgraded to WIn10 is because this laptop is my brother's old laptop and I recently started using it cause my old daily driver (Asus T100Chi) charging port finally reach its limit and isn't able to charge anymore, so I just yoink my brother's old laptop since he is not using it anymore, and man it's a massive upgrade, even tho it only got an i5-3337U, 8GB RAM & GT720M, but I have no idea why he upgrade it to WIn10. I also notice that when I play LoL my GPU is barely being use, so I search it up and I found this, and even though LoL is a CPU bound game, in a way it says that if the manufucturer has barely any drivers for WIn10 for this particular laptop, then it shouldn't be upgraded to Win10, in which the site has barely any. And since this is my first time doing these kind of stuff, I need a really step-by-step guide on how to do this Oh and since the site shows most of the drivers are for Win8-64bit, I'd want a guide to Win8-64bit UNLESS the drivers works fine in Win8.1, in which it should be but I'm not sure so I'm just gonna play it safe BONUS QUESTIONS: 1. Is there any Win8 debloater? All I've found is Win10 2. How do you unscrew a stripped screw? I've tried using rubber bands but the one I have are all not wide enough and are tiny-winny ones (Important because one of the screw is one of the screw of the HDD and I can't upgrade it if I can't take it out) 3. Once I get into Win8 is it fine to install the latest driver for a hardware? Or do I have to start from the first then work my way up to the latest because a lot of the site's driver say something like "oh make sure u have an older version first before installing this one m8"

One day my cousin was using pc but suddenly there was a power cut . After that everytime he used his pc it used to auto turn off while running and used to lag a lot. So without any knowledge he thought that changing the windows version would solve . So he tried installing windows 7 (from windows 8). Boot Priority 1.CD 2.HDD = After turning on the pc it shows windows logo and under it , it show preparing automatic repair then black screen with some sentences and then the pc restarts and same thing happens. {Attached video(don't mind the monitor)} Boot priority 1.HDD = It says no operating system was found . Please help. received_344742756880967.mp4

Hi there, my girlfriend brought a Lenovo ideapad 320-14AST which came with windows 8 pre installed and I wanted to put windows 7 on it as windows 8 seems really slow. I installed windows 7 on a fresh HDD and it boots fine but I'm missing a ton of drivers such as wired lan, USB, touchpad and a few others. I have a general understanding as to how to install drivers from the manufactures sites and such but can't find any drivers for windows 7. I'm guessing it wasn't built for windows 7. I googled if it was possible to install the windows 8 drivers instead and pretty much said to just try and see. I installed the touchpad and lan drivers and said both had installed but to no luck they still don't work. Any help or info on a program to install the correct drivers offline or a way to fix this issue would be much appreciated ❤

My laptop (Samsung NT305V5A-S4PB) was turned off while updating to Windows 10 during battery power and need help fixing it. The laptop was running Windows 7 Home Premium K OA and I decided to update to Windows 10 on the Microsoft Windows 10 installation tool. Which I had to delete my graphics driver in order to proceed the installation. And while doing it, it turned off because the battery was low. So I made a usb installation boot drive which it is stuck on a black background with Windows 10 logo and a spinning circle. Please help me to fix this 8 year old laptop. Thanks!

Hello there, to make it short; Recently i've bought a new HDD, because my old one was dying, i've installed windows etc already on it, and i am currently writing this on said HDD. (Seagate 2TB) But now comes the problem, i wanted to connect my older 1TB HDD to the mainboard, i did so, but when i turned it on, it booted to that 1TB drive, which i don't want to happen. I've changed in the BIOS the settings already to boot from the 2TB one, but as i do so, the 1TB HDD doesn't get shown in Windows, it does however in the BIOS. (Also the new 2TB doesn't get shown when i boot from the old 1TB HDD) There are some important files on that old HDD, any ideas on how to get them over to the new one?

Hello, I have bought an SSD in order to upgrade my mother's 5 years old laptop which is struggling with a HDD. I want to install windows 10 to this SSD. However, the windows 8 product code that came with the laptop is nowhere to be found, so I can't install w8 first than upgrade it to w10 and activate it. My mother upgraded this w8 laptop to w10 at some point in the past without being aware of it. And it's already activated original windows 10 on HDD. If I run a software to get the currently activated code, can I use that code to directly install w10 and activate it? If not, what are my options? Appreciate any ideas.

I’ve been having choppy gameplay on everything from GTA V to CSGO, I was getting immensely annoyed. I had no idea what it was until I checked my memory. I had anywhere from 4-8GB just in standby. What do I do?

I have an old lenovo mixx 2 tablet computer that I want to tart using again. It was originally used for drawing and making notes which it worked well with using off the windows store apps. However since it has now expired and these tools are no longer available. I've looked around and have bee nunable to find any sort of applications that run on windows 8 as good as the original apps (autodesk sketchbook and papyrus). These apps are available on android however, would it be possible to run android 7 on the tablet? Ican't find much help anywhere else besides bluestacks but it does not use the touchscreen properly.

I am building a new Gaming Rig. Some Linux flavor will be my main OS but as I still like to play LoL from time to time and ill probably also run some other windows only games. I'm wondering if there is much consensus on how each version of windows with the same hardware performs. I have gotten Windows 7 running on Ryzen 5's before so I'm not worried about the effort of getting "Unsupported" OS working. As I'm spending a lot (for me) on hardware it would be a shame to go for a system that performs worse than others.

So basically I have a GPU (GT 730 from ZOTAC) [2GB, GDDR5] which suffers frequent driver crashes even on the desktop, and the strange thing is that the driver crashes only on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 (not on windows 10). Initially, I overclocked it a little, but now I have stopped doing that, but the problem still persists. The GPU runs on 2506MHz Memory clock rather than 5000, the most probable reason being the PCIe 16x slot of my PC. (Gen 2; old PC; used) After thorough checking and testing, I came to the conclusion that the GPU doesn't run hot, nor does its memory become full (at least on the desktop) Oh yeah, by saying "it doesn't crash on windows 10", I meant that its frequency of crashing is really low, only when its really doing something. And that makes sense, but its a different story for Win7, 8, 8.1. It crashes even on opening Chrome tabs, file explorer windows, applications, Youtube, casual games (CS:GO, BF4,etc.).The frequency of crashes is noticebly higher than Windows 10. [I Know that this card isn't meant for Gaming and all but c'mon, the driver crashes where it really should not.][the card performs satisfactorily for me atleast.]. I've already cleaned the card thoroughly several times, just to be on the safer side, no luck. Driver version used: 399.07 (and some immediate previous ones) What I didn't try: --> using very old drivers --> disabling the Windows Aero (Win7) Please I want you guys and gals to suggest the next logical step I should try. Thanks!

Ok i searched google for more than 3 hours and i couldn't find the original windows 8 32 bit, Not 8.1 not windows 8 pro or something like that. The reason is that, i have this retarded samsung tablet that wont let me boot from a usb devices. It can only boot from usb after it boot up to the system through windows 8. I refreshed the tabled but somehow it failed and now its unable to enter windows. The original OS is windows 8 32-bit. And the son of a gun is SAMSUNG 500T model XE500T1C. and believe me i already tried every single solution i found on the net and none of them work. My only solution is to reset the devices through windows 8 recovery option and it required the original windows 8 32-bit, i have tried windows 8 pro 32 bit/windows 8.1 32 bit, windows 10,and so on and none of them work. So if someone has the original windows 8 32 bit.iso..please help for god sake. *scream internally

Hello. I'd like to know if there's any difference between Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 in terms of performance. Say the hardware's exactly the same, will I get more fps on 8.1? Or will it boot faster? Will it utilize SSD read/write speeds more efficiently? Thanks.

So I got my old laptop running again and freshly installed a windows 8.1 os in it. The problem now is I don't have the drivers that it came with when I first bought it. And Sony isnt much of a help. (Sony Asia specifically) My model number is SVE15136CAB (or SVE151G13W). I have come articles that it says it needs Vaio Care and install drivers from there. But I cant find even the software itself in the Asia Pacific server. Help please. Open for any suggestions.

Here is situation I'm in trying to get this darn computer to boot into Windows. Each time I start up this 2013 ASUS VivoBook now I get a "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" message. Everything was fine up until a few days ago. The BIOS only has an option for boot priority as Windows Boot Manager followed by string of numbers. I had been finding guides and tutorials and some tell me that the issue is a partition issue or EUFI issue? When I go to see a roster of disks and volumes, cmd prompt on my Windows 8 install image can see it, but I somehow can't fix it or is "hidden". The refresh option on the installation tools starts but eventually says there was a problem. Restore starts, and can view the last time my system was online but said I had to repair the disk. I repair the disk and it completes the progress bar, but I try to proceed with restore and a dialog pops up saying there still needs to repair the disk. I can't continue. Tried repairing through cmd prompt and got to stage 4 of chkdsk when it I guess froze. There appeared to be a huge number however, so I could just wait overnight... The chkdsk process did however say there were a small number of bad sectors. There are semi-important files I'd like to get off incase my HDD is failing. How could I try to get into Windows again to safely get the files off?

Hi everyone. I think I got rootkited. It all started when I torrent something fishy (I know it was dumb to trust but I needed it that time, so yeah). Anyways, I noticed my system slowed down. And from time to time hangs on me and go BSOD. I tried a few things to get my laptop back to it's former stat. 1.) Doing a full scan with windows defender. (And yeah, windows defender is my only anti virus) but cant finish coz it always hangs up and goes BSOD. Maybe because of the virus. 2.) Doing system restore inside desktop. But cant open the the window for system restore. Waited for an hour after clicking, still didnt run. a.) Cant do it also in safe mode, still cant access system restore. b.) Troubleshooting before startup, when I acessed the restore point there too system says I dont have a restore point. But I have 5 restore points, as far as I can remember. Also tried the Refresh option. It said it needs a boot up media. Before it doesnt need it right? Correct me if Im wrong. 3.) And I also have dual boot linux. But when I adjust the boot priorities again so that the GRUB will start first, the GRUB doesnt appear. I dont know why. Side questions: Gonna try doctor web live usb scanning, is it advisable? I cant run the installation in my pc. Need another one for this. Maybe again because of the virus. Heres some processes in my task manager that wasnt there before.

Is there anyway to run Windows 8 applications, like new Chrome and League of Legends, on a computer with Windows XP? I'm wondering for a prank to do on a friend.
