I have a desktop that we took the "Free" Win10 upgrade a year or so ago. Since then the desktop comes out of sleep mode several times a night. Sometimes its a quick return to sleep, sometimes it stays on until we put it back into sleep manually. Ive asked in several forums, nothing seems to correct this problem. the last wake and all those commands show nothing is causing it to happen. Does anyone have any ideas? I checked all the power functions, etc. All drivers, etc are up to date. it's just a work station, in the home network. No hardware on it except for headphones. nothing fancy on it - IE, Firefox, Office and Hitman Pro. McAfee is the AV software. ANY suggestions? Thanks

So My File Explorer is glitching out and making these strange black boxes and weird lines, its not affecting performance just the look of it and how I'm able to navigate through it. I am using some custom ico's as you can see. But this just started happening and I have been using these for weeks. Also If I restart the pc it seems to go away. I think the glitches get triggered when I connect my iPhone to my pc through usb. Any tips on what to do to stop this is much appreciated! <3

I bought a real product key for windows 10 home and I have had it on my pc fully installed activated and working fine. I decided for some reason to enter a windows 10 pro key from some website thinking maybe it would give me a free upgrade. Now I'm stuck with this. I just want my normal Win 10 Home with activation.

Hi all! I keep attempting to install AMD Overdrive on my rig (details below) and when I restart the computer after a successful install, I get a BSOD with an error message that "AOD Driver 2" failed or something along those lines (I've already reset my computer... again... and I don't remember the exact error code.). Am I doing something wrong? I really just wanted a temp monitor and CPU-Z doesn't have one, and being able to OC from the OS would be convenient. Any help is appreciated! Thanks ahead of time. PS: I'm pretty sure this is the right forum. It should maybe go on the Overlocking forum, but I actually dropped my processor to stock speeds before I installed Overdrive, so I doubt that's the problem.

Hello! I upgraded my PC a couple days ago, and I noticed that I'm not running the latest version of Windows 10. I'm running Windows 10 Home 64 bit, version 1511. When I check for updates, it says that my PC is already up to date. I read that one option to fix this would be to download the installation media tool, does it do a fresh installation of windows or is there a update option or something like that? Also is there another options that would fix my problem? Thank you!

Hello! Me and my friend went to buy an ssd for my friend, and when we installed a copy of windows 10 it didn't ask for activation key (note that he alreday had windows 10 on his hdd and now we just installed new windows 10 to his new ssd). Why it didn't ask for the activation key? We checked and it says that it's already activated. We used windows 10 installion tool what I had on my usb stick and i have used it 1 time before this. Is that the reason why it didn't ask for the key? or did my friend have retail version of windows? Thank you

Hey guys I came across what seems to be a first for me. I stream on Twitch and do some music creation on the side, so needless to say my 2tb SSHD gets filled up pretty quickly. It had been about six months since the last time I had reset my PC (I do it to keep everything running smooth, would love to know a more efficient way if anyone knows) and it was time to do it again. I go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 and click on the "Download tool now" button, and begin the process. I select "Remove Everything" from "All my drives" and wait for Win10 to do it's thing knowing it will keep all my games and whatnot, just "uninstalling" them to the eyes of Steam, Origin, etc. Fast forward two days to current time and now, sporadically, I will get BSOD'd. The error code itself varies, but it always has something to do with the kernel. Every error code has the word "kernel" in it. Upon further investigation and googling, I was told to run a built in file system checker through the command prompt by typing in "sfc/scannow". Attached to this thread is a screenshot of the result from that process request and the log it provided. TLDR: Reset PC, now I get BSOD's. Can't figure out why, found out it may have to do with corrupt files but unsure. See attachments. My specs in case of relevancy: Thermaltake Smart Series 650W PSU ASRock AB350-m Gaming 3 Mobo AMD Ryzen 1700 with stock cooler, no OC 16 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM ASUS Dual Fan 1060 6GB no OC Kingston 120 GB SSD (don't remember model, got it for $50) Seagate FireCuda 2 TB SSHD Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit (10.0, Build 18362) CBS.log

I figure I'd write this out here incase anyone else is having this trouble. Had a machine where any audio would stutter, tried changing audio quality down as low as it would go, reinstalled realtek drivers, disabled devices, changed priorities, everything still had audio stuttering. wasn't until wifi went down that audio stopped stuttering, sure enough disabled the Asus PCE-N15 wireless and audio no longer stutters. Things to try if you're having this problem: check cables, check with another device to make sure its not your speakers/headphones, restart, disable enhancements, enable immediate mode, lower audio quality, reinstall drivers, disable wireless card. If alll those didn't fix you may need a new soundcard

I am new to tinkering with Linux KVM so I wanted to ask here for advice. Here is what i was hoping to achieve! 1 Linux Host and 1 Windows VM. Asus ROG Crosshari VIII Formula or Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra S-AM4 ATX perhaps? Is there performance benefits to either option? Ryzen 9 3900X 64GB 3000MHZ DDR4 Geforce 1070 - Windows VM Geforce 1060 - Linux Host 1 Samsung NvME 512 GB - Windows VM 1 Samsung NvME 512 GB - Linux Host x amount of mechanical hdds for storage, etc. Expansion cards for USB/Sound any extra peripherals needed for the VM. (The x570 motherboards dont have a lot of expansion card slots its the two GPU slots and maybe one more. Is there options other options?) Could I benefit from watercooling all this? Or would air coolers be perfectly fine. I am not looking to overclock any of the components. Squeezing fps out of the gaming experience is not what i need. I run my workstation on linux, use KVM to dedicated CPU cores/threads/dies? To the Windows VM, running Win10 to game on. (I know linux gaming has come a long way but i have no great way of using my own game library on DVDs/CDs/ etc in linux so Windows is better option for me). Today I dual boot my rig with a different HDD when I want to game but instead id like to have both machines running at the same time with a dedicated Monitor and shared mouse/keyboard. I work with java/html5 development, network design and support so I use my linux workstation for that. Using cores and memory available to setup test environments in Virtualbox is something i do on a daily basis. When setting up Linux KVM has anyone seen if the Ryzen CPUs can be allocated like per die so the windows VM got one die and my host the other die. Would that even make things better? So that was a little ramble I am just hoping to get some input from you good folks!

Just as usual... planning a system and I have been contemplating Linux over windows. Heres my deciding factors. Linux is lighter, can be faster, can bend to my will, and I could sell my distribution. but, it is complex, I have very little experience, the command prompt is a bit confusing(but I could learn) and it is overall more complex. Windows is a bit slower, I have lots of experience, it's a bit heavier, I can work cmd, and it gives you fewer choices and less complex. But, I do know what to do, it.s very simple, an I have tons of experience. as you can see I'm a bit torn about this because I really want this rig to rock! Thanks for any advice!

So i dual booted win for a while, then i removed the other drive, but the message still remains! It is wasting 5 secs on every boot. Even stupider is that it gives 2 options, win 10 on drive 2, or just a blank option. Yes i will choose the blank option, not. When i dual booted last time that screen just disappeared when removing the drive. What is the easiest way to get rid of it?

So i have a new SSD. After a massive cloning failure i used the Win tool made a clean installation of Win 10 and i wonna keep my settings and info (profiles, passwords, customization) i don't feel like setting every thing up again. My first problem is the activation key, I'm pretty sure that if i use my existing one it'll say it's being used, so is there a folder that saves user settings, preferences, customization etc. that i could replace with my old one from the HDD that will carry all of it? If not what are my oprions on switching Only the Oc and the apps that i want to the ssd.

Alright, so where do I begin. I've noticed that one of my games, which I have not touched for a while, has huge performance issues(framerate drops and stutters mainly). In the past, it was running smoothly at 154 fps locked(I have144hz panel); however, today it was constantly dropping to 110-90 with frame times that are all over the place. I decided to figure out what's up. The first look at the task manager revealed the problem. Even though I have 16 Gb of ram and chrome+steam+os doesn't need more than ~4.5Gb, I only had ~3Gb of free ram available. About 8Gb of it was used as standby memory preloaded with some stuff I was not currently using. After that, I checked my pagefile, which by default was set to 8Gb. After some googling, I assumed that windows was using "virtual ram" instead of clearing up the junk in the standby portion, so I decreased the size of pagefile to min/max 1Gb/2Gb and rebooted the system. After the restart, the overall usage of ram dropped. On idle it was around 2.5Gb and the reserved portion was only 1.8Gb. A quick test of the game showed that everything went back to normal, no performance issues. Despite this, I kept monitoring memory usage. After I exited the game, standby was about 5-6Gb, which is about what that game needs to run. When I opened another application, the standby portion was growing until it reached the max(~8Gb was used, ~9Gb standby) and the program crashed with not enough memory error. I believe that a portion of that standby memory was used by the game data and the rest by other stuff windows preloaded in case I might use it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean that standby memory is not freed when an active application requires it? Why is windows not removing closed program's data from RAM? I've downloaded RamMap and manually cleared standby, but this is not a solution. After I've released standby portion, I tried to play Apex. Background stuff+the game are actively using ~8Gb, and when you're playing standby steadily grows until it fills all available ram, which causes the game to crash. P.s: I also disabled Superfetch, but it still preloads stuff during the first boot. I've attached a screenshot of the task manager. With just chrome open - 3.6Gb used\9GB!!!! reserved. If I try to launch a program, it'd better be happy with those 3gb left over, cause standby portion is not counted as free memory. ram.bmp Added 2 screenshots: Just apex running after releasing standby memory And after I closed it apexclosed.bmp runningapex.bmp

Heyo, my HD suddenly stopped detecting since last night and I can't figure out why. Connections looked good, it shows up in disk management but is not allocated and gives me an I/O error. After a quick shut down and reseating the connections, it shows back up again no problem. It randomly just stops detecting when I'm in the middle of doing something. Has anyone else had this issue before?

Hi, I finally got my FC to work, the only problem now is, that the PCIe card is not recognized as a network interface, but as a Storage controller, in Device manager. Does anbody here know how to change it, so that it gets recognized as a NIC, and not a storage controller? I attached a screenshot of my device manager, but it's in German. The two tabs that are open are the network interfaces, and the storage controllers. Thanks for any help in advance, Fredi

So ever since the recent win 10 update I am unable to use ethernet to access the internet. Can access my network and other computers but not internet. It works for a few mins after an update and then gone, not internet access although the little triangle does not appear. I tried reinstalling drivers and resetting defaults and nothing helps. Is it time for me to give up and reinstall windows? I hate doing this but it fixes the unfixable problems it seems.

Hi guys, I just wiped my Omen 15-ce020ng and resintalled windows since I plan on selling it soon. The problem is, after I installed all drivers directly from the HP website, I noticed that everytime after I let the Notebook run for about 15 minutes, core 0 is pegged at 100% usage coming from the System process. Restarting fixes the issue for some time, until it happens randomly again. I cant see a pattern, like after starting a program or something. Thing I tried to fix this: Restart in safe mode, full malewarebytes and Defender scan SFC /Scannow Reinstall latest updates Update BIOS Reinstall Windows again I dont really want to sell a notebook with this issue to be honest. All help is appreciated!

A weird thing happened starting yesterday. My win 10 laptop on startup does NOT start Explorer. Instead I get a black screen with a command prompt showing C:\Windows\System32. If I close the CCMD prompt then I have a totally black screen. CTL-ALT-DEL works and I brought up task manager and ran explorer.exe which started file explorer. The CMD prompt did not disappear until I closed it. I re-started the computer again and the same happened. I typed explorer.exe in the CMD prompt and that also started file explorer. Why does Windows start CMD prompt INSTEAD of explorer.exe?? Any help would be appreciated!
