So after a month of waiting I finally got my Fibre connected in my new home! I've moved out of my flat where the wi-fi and connection was perfect (with an outage now and again). The wi-fi router provided by virgin media worked really well and would easily achieve the 200mbps advertised and I actually received 220mbps over the wi-fi connection. This coverage was enjoyed throughout the entire flat. Moving forward into my new home where the fibre point is in the living room, when testing the speeds, again I get the 220mbps download speed. I can also get the speed to be at least 150mbps+ downstairs over wi-fi. Now upstairs my devices and peripherals connect fine (not the greatest signal strength) and actually don't have access to the internet for some reason which I find odd. So in the mean time I've purchased some power line adapters and plugged it directly into the wall sockets at both ends, and my office being the other end I'm getting about 40mbps download speed, which is okay however I'm obviously not getting what I spend on the 200mbps where I needed it most. I have a theory why this might be the case, we installed wood flooring into our upstairs floors and as part of this we got some very good insulation where the surface layer is like a very thin foil material. I have a feeling that either the flooring is too thick, or that insulating underlay is interfering with the signal. I'm just wondering if you guys have any possible ideas around this problem or how I can easily get the wi-fi signal upstairs. I have a dual band router (TP-link AC1200 Dual Band N-Router) however I can't for the life of me seem to be able to set it up as a repeater, I've looked for instructions however the interface seems older than the information I've researched and the options just simply don't exist. Please help!!!

So, with much of the money I earned working my first job, I got myself a Dell G7 15 7588 laptop. For the most part, I've been happy with it. The 8GB of RAM is much less of a hindrance than I was expecting, and the Hexacore i7 + GTX 1060 Max-Q combo is like poetry in motion. Also, the chassis (including the screen) is built like a tank, and the battery life has exceeded my expectations! However, there has been one major issue that has been plaguing me since I got it: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The laptop randomly drops the network out of nowhere (in fact, it did so while I was typing this up!), and it has occasionally reset Bluetooth connections for no apparent reason (doesn't matter how close or far away the devices are). A few more bits of info: This only happens with my Dell G7. My phone, my family's phones & laptops, and literally anything else that has ever been connected to my network has never acted up like this. When the G7 drops the Wi-Fi, all the other devices can still browse the Internet freely. Once the Wi-Fi disconnects, it doesn't always reconnect automatically. Sometimes, I have to do it manually (e.g. click on my network and hit "connect", or just reboot the computer). The strength of the Wi-Fi signal does not matter; the Dell G7 will drop it regardless. After dropping the Wi-Fi, the laptop still sees the network, which allows me to reset it manually when necessary. This is a constant; it's always been true. My OS version is Windows 10 Home, version 1803, build 17134.228. As far as I know, this is the latest version & build. My laptop's wireless card is an Intel Wireless AC 9560. For a couple of weeks, I've been trying to fix the problem myself. Here's what I've tried: Resetting the router. (didn't fix anything) Updating the drivers through Windows Update. (Updated to "best" drivers. Nothing was fixed.) Resetting the DNS through Command Prompt. (Fixed it, all of it...for 18 hours. Then the issues came back.) "Replacing" the drivers by deleting them through Device Manager and then rebooting the laptop. (Mixed results...) The Bluetooth issues were fixed by "replacing" the drivers. The Wi-Fi issues persist, though. At this point, I'm stumped. I've been trying to fix this issue for about two weeks, and the Wi-Fi is still having problems. Can you guys offer any other suggestions? What else should I try? Do I need another wireless card? Does Windows need to be reinstalled? Help?!

I repaired my 2015 MacBook Air and when I got it I found out it had OSX Yosemetie 10.10 the original OS it came with. I upgraded to High Sierra 10.13. Problem is when I updated it the Wi-Fi would not connect. When I revert to 10.10 using a recovery image it works fine. Basically the Wi-Fi only works when its running the older Yosemetie 10.10. I even did a clean install to make sure there were no driver issues. So what is the problem?

We have an Asus RT-n66u dual band router and my PC is using a Linksys AE3000 USB dual band. The bizarre problem is whenever I set it to 5G it often just hitches, freezes, or disconnects randomly, all while saying signal strength is still good (And it's a desktop so nothings moving) When it works properly it IS faster than 2.4 according to Ookla and downloading things. Apparently my uncles laptop is also on 5G, but other than that there's the TV that's hardwired and a couple smartphones. Any time the 5G starts acting up I switch over to 2.4 and it starts working perfectly, so I've basically been living on 2.4 for stability. Should I just stick with 2.4 or is there something I'm missing here? My uncle IS constantly streaming stuff on his laptop, but that still only makes 2 devices and that shouldn't be an issue right?

I'm a super newbie at setting up an internet connection via ubiquiti setups. Where's the best place to find a complete walkthrough for setting up the ubiquiti pbe 5ac 300? I got the hardware set up, but I would really like a complete walkthrough on the airmax software. If there is a place to watch every button press I'd be happy haha, but I can manage with a more in-depth walkthrough.

I've just built this PC for my dad for Father's day and have installed windows 10. The part list can be found here. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sN6L9J The problem im facing is that there are no network adapters found. Even though my AsRock B360m-ITX/ac motherboard supports on board wireless. I go to device manager and under network adapters i only find Bluetooth. No wireless adapter and no LAN atapter I've attached a screenshot of this. I Also go to network and sharing center and then to change adapter settings and only find bluetooth. No LAN or Wireless again Screenshot attached of this also I went to AsRocks website for my motherboard. https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/B360M-ITXac/index.asp#Download I have the newest BIOS version P1.4 So i tried looking at the downloads. I see LAN drivers and Wireless LAN Drivers I installed these to a USB and unzipped them. I plugged the USB into the No Wi-fi PC and copied the files to the C: Drive I then tried to run the LAN driver auto install but received error "no intel adapter detected" So i tried to install the wireless LAN driver when running this autorun file simply nothing happens no error and no install starts. I've opened a ticket with AsRock support but im at a loss and really need help so i can get this up an running before father's day

I am moving into a new apartment that comes with Wi-Fi but I am concerned about my privacy especially for online banking but also I have a Google Home and a Chrome cast I don't want them accidentally casting or messing up my casts. If I bring my own router and plug it into their router can we separate the Wi-Fi that way?

Hello LTT peoples! My home network speed seems to have dropped lately. I should be getting at least 20/2, but instead I'm getting around 0.6/3.5 Most help on the internet that I've found is aimed at sudden connection drops and/or people who have absolutely no experience. I have some minimal networking experience, but not enough to know what I'm doing. Specs: Provider: Spectrum Modem: Motorola SURFboard SB6120 Wi-Fi/Router: Linksys E3000 Extention Wi-Fi router plugged into the first one and strung across the house: Linksys E1500 All of this is connected with CAT6 that I crimped myself. Ethernet speeds appear to be no better than Wi-Fi (I got sick of waiting for Speedtest.net to load after a few minutes). This setup had been working fine for months; nothing unusual has happened/changed. This has been going on for nearly two days, and my family may stage an uprising soon. Thanks!

Hello! I've been trying to change the DNS server on my Netgear C6300 router/modem, but it has not been allowing me to do so. I type in the IP's for Norton's Connectsafe public DNS servers, then hit apply. However, It comes up with an error stating "Invalid IP address." I am not exactly sure as to what it means by that- Internet IP Addresses are set to br retrieved dynamically from my ISP. I have tried doing it from different computers, A Wi-Fi connected laptop, and a Ethernet desktop computer. If it helps, the firmware version is V2.01.26. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it possible for me to buy a wifi set up for less than $100 and reach around 1000 ft away and get a strong signal? (I'm aware that it also depends on whats in the way and other signals around) There are a few trees in the way and a small 20 x 20 building made of wood. If so whats are the best options available? I've looked into directional antennas but don't know much about brands and what works best and also seen on some specs for routers and extenders they claim to go up to 2km? Any recommendations and info on prices would be helpful.

I have this really weird problem with my new desktop MSI Aegis 3. The WiFi and gaming seem to work fine separately i.e. no problems with online gaming OR browsing the web when separate. However as soon as I open an app (like the Microsoft store) or a game (online, like killing floor, or not, like FTL) the WiFi connection drops out- although it is still connected to the router. I have updated all my drivers, disabled any/all antivirus/firewall/VPN software, moved the computer close to the router and done a full malware scan to no effect (my wifi should also be fast enough). I am using windows 10 with Intel wireless dual band AC 3168 with an i5 7400 processor, MSI Navdia GTX 1070 with 16gb ram so i don't think i can be running out of memory. It's really strange because as soon as I load any game the task manager just states that the "network" has dropped to 0% and i can no longer use the internet with other programs like Spotify- but the internet on that game is fine as soon as I start using it (like some other program is preventing the rest of the computer using the internet). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Chris

I can't use the ethernet and the Wi-Fi is laggy, not to mention the atrocious NAT. Anyone have any ideas? Are standalone hotspots still a thing? Using the one on my phone doesn't really help. Xbox One

I would love to have a good Wi-FI USB recommendation for my desktop, as I'm moving from my home to my friend's house and I'll not be able to connect the cable coming from the router to my PC anymore. Unfortunately, I'm sure that it won't ever be as fast as it was, but for a 100mbps plan, what's the maximum speed that the adapter would match? Thanks!

Which is better? My house connection is 50mbps and it won't exceed the advertised connection speed of both usb and PCI. Does the PCI card offer better ping than the usb one?

Hello, I live in Australia and recently got a computer for my birthday. It's pretty good for what I do on a day to day basis but there is one problem on it, I rely on Wi-Fi as internet as my PC is in my bedroom and my router is on the other side of the house so I can only get an Ethernet connection for my PC which would mean running an ethernet cable from one side of the house to the other. Does anyone out there have some cheap Wi-Fi cards you could suggest? Thanks, Spencer

I need help ASAP. I use Wi-Fi adapters on my PC. Everything was just fine till about 3 days ago when suddenly my speed dropped from the regular 1.8Mbps to around 20/30kb! I tried everything i could but nothing seems to help. Connection is always at 5 "sticks". I bought a new adapter and it's still the same thing. I tried scanning windows completely to no result, tried installing and reinstalling drivers, tried using windows' tools to find errors on the connection but nothing. On my phone or other pcs its working Just fine. I am using my phone to type this. Pls help!

(TL;DR is at the bottom) Okay, so I just bought a new PCI Network card (The TP-LINK Archer T9E AC1900), and I'm trying to configure it to be as fast as possible. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) So, although it advertised speeds of 600Mbps on 2.4GHz and 1300Mbps on 5.0GHz networks (and I've never had an internet adapter lie on the box before, all of mine have been TP-Link in the past), I'm only getting 144.0Mbps on 2.4GHz, and, I get 351Mbps on 5.0GHz... sort of. When I'm connecting to my 5.0GHz network, I have a very poor 'signal strength'. I get 2/5 "bars," but 4/5 on 2.4GHz. Also, while my 2.4GHz gets a constant 144.0Mbps, the 5.0GHz network has 351Mbps for the first little while, then dips to 263.0Mbps. Using Ookla Speedtest, the results seem to tell me pretty much what I suspected: 5.0GHz: 2.4GHz: [TL;DR] So, I guess my main, final questions are these: How can I achieve the advertised 1300Mbps speeds advertised on the box? Does this have anything to do with IPv6/IPv4? Maybe my router? The router I have is the Linksys/Cisco EA6400. Why, if my 5.0GHz network is faster, does it have less "bars," and a less constant signal strength? Could this also have something to do with my router, or even IPv6/IPv4? Any help would be appreciated, as I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to all the different things about networking, wifi, and internet in general. I'd love to learn a little while I'm at it, too!

hi, im working on some acces points, but i had a question. i was thinking about some unifi's from ubiquiti. https://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-UniFi-UAP-AC-LR-Single-Version/dp/B01609AF22/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1471605088&sr=1-8&refinements=p_89%3AUbiquiti but i was wndering how many devices could connect to it. i needed it to be about 60 to 70 devices. Is 1 access point from ubiquiti enough or is there a better solution? thanks a lot!!

hi, so I just built my first pc today and installed windows (10 pro) and all the drivers from the gigabyte website and amd etc.. and there's no option on the bottom right corner to connect wirelessly to my network. I dont know if this is because I have the pro version of windows or because my motherboard doesn't support wi-fi (for some reason) all the components are listed below. also i'd be glad to send screenshots if needed. I also tried the command prompt solution that's on pretty much every forum but it didn't work...Halp. Mobo- gigabyte ga d3h revision 1.2 cpu- intel core i5 4590 gpu- amd r9 390 hdd- seagate barracuda 1tb psu- fsp forton raider( i really doubt its the psu but here it is anyways)

I am new to the whole M.2 thing. I only just learned that it can be used for Wi-Fi. When I was looking at the specs for the B150M Mortar, under Wi-Fi, it says that you can connect using M.2. I searched online for M.2 Wi-Fi cards and found many. Some places where I look say that I need antennae, however. The instructions for the mobo aren't exactly helpful and haven't found anything helpful online either. I have used mobos in the past that don't have this issue, why is this the case with this one? Do you need antennae for an M.2 Wi-Fi card such as the Intel 7260NGW for this mobo? If so, is there another M.2 Wi-Fi card that I can use that does NOT require antennae? If no, is there a similar mobo I can use that negates this problem? If you're curios about the rest of the build (I'm making it for a friend), you can check it out here: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/4q98hk/building_a_microatx_gamingrendering_pc_for_a/

I'm new to the whole PC hardware scene and my question might seem a little dumb but I don't really understand Wired & Wireless connection to wifi. I have googled about wired & wireless connections and it told me that if you want wireless connection you have to buy a wireless modem. What's the difference between wireless and wired modems?
