Hello. So I have two of the exact same websites, however they're on two separate servers (in case one or the other goes down). How do I put the following pseudo-code into CloudFlare or a similar DNS solution? If site1 is operational then proceed to site1 else If site one is not operational then proceed to site2 Many thanks

I have a website that was being hosted on an ubuntu VM but due to collecting random bits of hardware over the past few months I have a system that I can use as a dedicated webserver. It is a fairly low powered system but should handle it fine. Specs are: CPU: Pentium (can't remember which one exactly, runs at 3.2GHz) 8GB RAM DDR3 Bootdrive is 160GB mechanical hard disk I installed ubuntu server, installed apache, php and mysql went through the configs and made them match the settings the VM was using and changed the port forwarding to the new server. But it loads so painfully slow that it is unusable. A page will take nearly 5 minutes to load if it loads at all. I also installed webmin but that takes so long to load 10-15 minutes if at all that it is pointless. I have no idea why it is taking so long to load sites. I have run top and the cpu is sitting at 99% idle and memory has 7.5gb free any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey guys! So I love designing things and I redesigned Floatplane for fun tell me what you think! There's some small descriptions explaining the different design choices and what is missing. This is mostly a fit & finish exploration and not an actual "ready-to-code" design. So for the branding I went with something modern and simple. The perfect circle is uusable in any situation and represents the shape of a floatplane going forward. It is stylized but still recognizable. A design elements that I added is the frame/scafolding on the right. Floatplane is meant to be a a place for creators to be able to share to their communities, Floatplane gives them the frame to do that so the frame design represents this and supplements the design. The color palette is on the dark side because when you watch videos, you want to be immersed in the content with a slight tint of blue like the original color. So here's the basic channel view. To feel immersed in the channel you're viewing, the creator could chose their color palette, image and so on. The goal is to clearly separate the site navigation and the zone for the creator to work in. It is their place, their colors, their content. Right now the left elements (title, description, etc.) are big, but once you're subscribed to someone they would be way smaller to make place for more content. The creator could share whatever they want in whatever format they want. Single videos, featured videos, per week, per month, per playlists or even share links and files if it is relevent to the community. In this design here, we see a more "girly" oriented channel and how the design system can actually adapt. In this case, it's the back-to-school so the new back-to-schoool videos are featured in the top, but for relevancy, the older back-to-school videos are right under since it is that period. Of course, the side information is big, but this is just to show off the design and would be smaller if already subscribed. The design is highly responsive. Not featured right now is the navigation that would be on the left under the title, but this is mostly a fit & finish exploration. The goal was to take a different approach of the classic top cover and navigation (like every other site out there) and just run with it. Have a great day everyone! Jay

I stumbled across a website that sells 'refurbished' laptops from companies apparently, It looks quite sketch, but i'd like to see if there's any expert or opinions from someone that may have a better idea if this website is a scam or not. I mostly assume it is as Alienware laptops go from $180 but it's always worth asking. Site: http://stablesale.com

I want to start a website that users can register and login. and after logging in I want users to be able to submit input-fields that I specify and get all the users login details (to know which user submitted the form to the database) only registered users, and none registered users can't get to the submission input fields. how do I start this where to search?? most of the Youtube videos only do a register and login tutorial without counting how to give certain features to the logged-in users. The language I want to use is PHP. Thanks,

Hello, everyone. I don't even know how to start. So something I do in my free time is host websites, but the server host I am with currently isn't 100% transparent about where they get their servers (but they are dirt cheap which is why I use them and I know: "You get what you pay for"). The issue I'm having is that my sites (and my clients sites) will suddenly revert anywhere from hours before to days before. Obviously daily backups are the answer here, however I don't know if this is an issue caused by me (especially since this is happening across many different servers all with the same exact programs minus one or two PHP plugins) or if it's the server host not being diligent enough to take an active backup and a passive backup before they mess with things on their end. I've reached out to them and they claim that there isn't any "tampering" being done and that "each server is the customer's only and they don't have access to it". To be honest I don't even know, if it is my fault, what logs to upload so I can get help so here's my specs, just in case they will help (I know OpenVZ has issues here and there, but again it's the only option I have and I have never heard of such an issue with OVZ): OpenVZ Containers running Ubuntu 16.04 with all latest security patches and updates 1-8GB RAM (varies on each server) Varied Swap levels (20-50GB - SHHH.. I know it's a lot but I like my swap) 2-8 vCPU cores mySQL, Apache2 (web server), Nginx (reverse proxy), Dovecot, Exim4, VSFTPd, IPTables, Fail2Ban, clamav, VestaCP (website management panel) If anyone has any idea I would love to hear it. If you need any logs, please let me know. The sites affected go from simple one page HTML coded sites, to Wordpress packages, and even Drupal packages (all obviously separated vHosts). I'm honestly stumped. The logs could show a time discrepancy when it happens, but because I manage so many sites it's hard for me to know EXACTLY when it happens so I can check the log for the time jumps.

Hey everyone! So this year, I am participating in the 2017 Kentucky GSE Program, and our project is to provide a search and comparison service for local and nationwide security solution businesses such as ADT. We want our website to be similar in design and functionality to Trivago and Thumbtack. Our main goal is to provide easier access for consumers to connect and find the best service provider in the area for what they need. Based on research that I have done, we need something along the lines of a meta-search engine to implement certain tags for businesses and so that customers can search by location, price, rating, etc. Our team has $110 given to us by the GSE program, so we'd like to stay within that if possible. I own some really powerful servers, and we have a very fast internet connection at Transylvania University. Here's my question... none of us know anything about coding and we are already a week into this 3-week program. We are looking for a quick, affordable way of making something like this happen. Anyone willing to help us out and give us tips/advice would be great. Please reply to this topic or give me a call. Thanks! Cameron Lasley (270) 735-5895 cam17@kentuckygse.com

I'd like to start up a comparison website (like a shop I suppose.) that would allow you to combine two products to see if they are compatible. (for free if possible.) I would like it to be able to be updated constantly through spreadsheets of data. Any website builders capable of doing these things? I have done some research, showing that there are templates that you can get for Wordpress as an example, although they are not cheap. I was originally looking at an article by econsultancy.com, called "How to build your own price comparison API in 30 minutes with no code". Any ideas?

Hello everyone ! I’m currently studying computer science and I’d like to create my own website for a professional use. This is what I’m planning to have on it: - General presentation. (Home page) - Detailed CV. - Project page (and pages for each project). - Eventually a “Tutorial” section. I’d like to host it on Gitlab (git), which means it needs to be static: HTML, CSS and JS (etc). However, there are plenty of ways of going about it: Plain, Jekyll, Hexo, Middleman… All use different environments, such as Ruby on Rails, Python or NodeJS. This is where I kind of get lost with the amount of options I have. These environments seem more specialized in blog style websites, am I wrong? I don’t have any knowledge in Python or Ruby for instance. Just for reference, I’m a strong OOP kind of guy, so if it’s possible to translate that into my web dev experience, that would be great. It really comes down to what would be the most appropriate for me to use? Are there other options I should check out? Is there any real advantage in using these SSGs instead of just writing and managing everything yourself? Thanks! ~3751_Creator

Hi all, It's been a while since I've posted here but I know LTT is a community I can trust. I'm looking to start a wordpress site and trying to buy a certain domain. I'm currently looking at all the mainstream providers (like GoDaddy, HostGator) but the extra stuff they keep offering me at the checkout is making me feel uneasy. Here's the main stuff I value in a hosting service: Privacy Customer Service Value for money Security I would really appreciate any recommendations for what hosting service is best. Does anyone have experience with better alternatives? I don't think I'm in a position to host the site on my own machine right now since I'm currently between homes. Thanks in advance, Rossyboy

Hi everyone, Do you recommend Wix website builder for a small business? I started my own computer repair business and am attracted to Wix's ease of use and "free" price tag. I was very happy with what it created for me with it's automated "artificial intelligence." It's my understanding that you have to pay to remove ads and that it can be slow. However, I am only targeting my county and don't expect heavy traffic. I want a blog, social media links, About me, Contact info, and probably won't being doing e-commerce, at least not at this time. Of course will be doing SEO. What are your thoughts? Is "free" too good to be true?
