I didn't get round to watching the WAN show till now. Near the end of the show Linus mentions a game that he claims was made by Blizzard and it was basically just a crosshair and you shot chickens. Just thought i could offer my own 2 cents, i remember a game called "Destop destroyer 2: chicken carnage", it pretty much sounds exactly like Linus explained with the exception of 1) it wasnt made by blizzard and 2) i'm not sure if it was on Mac. It was one of those like desktop overlay games (idk what the proper name is), you had some weapons, there was a bunch of basic chicken sprites and you'd just kill them. I can't think of anything other than that so maybe Linus is just remembering things wrong (i.e. made up the Blizzard part)?

Hi, hopefully Linus sees this Let me begin with some context: I'm not a lawyer, so I can't give any actual advice. I did go to college for global business, this type of thing is something I took an interest in The issue of having huge tax or other liabilities when passing the family business on is a really common issue. For example, family farms may be worth millions on paper but generate very little profit, without proper planning they are often liquidated or even worse left in a state where the government owns it and the family loses everything. (Here in the US anyway) Since typically control in companies are expressed in stock, l can tell you that in general there are 2 main components of stock: Control of the company The value of the company (derived from the control) Luckily since many people face this issue, there are often rules in place that allow the owner of the company to separate these 2 parts for tax purposes. I can think of a few scenarios that might work. I would speak to an estate planner, though I think you may have already. If they were unable to help it would be worth going for a second opinion, and if that still doesn't work you may need to go to a professional service network. This would include companies like EY, KPMG, PwC, and Deloitte. I think an estate planner should be able to do it, but someone should be able to make it so that if your kids don't have to pay for the entire thing if you just want the company to continue functioning. Feel free to leave a comment below if you have some thoughts

Ok, so I can't stop thinking about the idea Linus and Luke were talking about on last week's WAN show... A small private rental space that's outfitted like a baller home theater... I'm curious if there's actual interest from people who would want to rent something like that... So, I made a little survey... https://forms.gle/HrNZV5cYezZQxdm8A

My thoughts If this is true, it feels like a huge betrayal to gamers. Like, yes, I understand gaming is only one of the reasons Nvidia makes GPUs, but I feel confident in saying that they probably make up a larger quantity of customers. It just feels like Nvidia doesn't care and just wants money, which, I know, they're a business, but still. Is it worth it if they lose millions of other customers in the process? It feels like the chip shortage has been exaggerated and the GPU price hike is at least partially artificial. Hi, I can't find the WAN Show episode in which Linus was talking how Canadian economy quickly returned to 95% of what it used to be before covid. And the people who could work from home are doing great and the people who couldn't, have it much worse. I watched this year's episode but couldn't find it. Does anyone have a clue which episode was it?

The WAN show is the only livestream I watch so pardon any knowledge of the same... But how does Linus beep out his curse words on the WAN show in real time? I found it fascinating and wondered if there is a tool to automatically detect such language and respond by censoring...

For what is this web? https://wanshowbingo.com/ I found it on the LTT discord

After watching linus complain on the wan show about youtube and seeing how it kinda made a difference I would like to share a well known issue. *Picture in Picture for iOS* For those of you who don’t know what I am talking about, Youtube made pip an experimental feature (wooow such outside the box thinking). After some time they removed the ability to enroll in program/feature. If you already enabled it it would stay active, even across multiple devices (so it’s an account switch). Today I saw that there is only one experimental feature so I decided to try it out, NOT knowing that PIP isn’t already a feature available for EVERY PAYING CUSTOMER. So at the moment there doesn’t seem to be a way to enable the feature back againg. Thanks youtube. There should be a mega thread for every dumb decision youtube decides to do so they can talk about it on the wan show. Sorry for formatting, I am on mobile.

Hi, I am doing a presentation about cryptocurrencies in school. Therefore, i membered a graphic once used on the WAN show. I don't quite remember about what it was, but it described the following Problem: There are 12 competing ... on the market | Hmm.. There should be one perfect one. Let's make it | There are 13 competing ... on the market. That is pretty much all I remember from it. Thanks in advance and Regards,

Trying to find the episode, or a clip- it wasn't reuploaded to LMG Clips though (kind of surprisingly, I really expected to find it easily as a clip reupload) so it's hard to find. In the episode Linus discussed how he and Yvonne manage their kids' tech/internet/videogame etc consumption. One notable point he made was about not giving his kids a phone until they prove their maturity and trustworthyness by going a certain amount of time without telling any lies/fibs, and just demonstrating that they are responsible. It must have been a 10 minute long discussion in total, and I'd love to find it again as I was really able to get behind their philosophy around this part of parenting, would love to watch it again and show it to my SO among other people. Especially as it's coming from such a techy family, and even more so coming from Linus, THE tech guy! If anyone remembers approx when the episode aired, that'd be a great start as I can sift through the chapters from the episodes of the time. Even better if you remember the exact episode! Tyvm all

Hi There So when i was watching the WAN Show today a comment Linus or Luke made about retro gaming had me thinking, has there being or is there a retro game server. something like steam inhome streaming or whatever they call it but that works with retro game emulators. The comment they made was about the videos they are making on emulating switch games but it got me thinking about the Alienware game server from CES and being able to stream all sorts of retro games from one box, or multiple versions of the same game. I wonder if that's something someone has worked on. If so if LTT would be interested in making a video on trying to do that.

You can setup a realy small air-gap solution using solid state relays and arduino/esp32 to put inline with the servers. It can be FULL offline and management free.

Hello, I just noticed that the The WAN Show Archive playlist on YouTube is missing some videos that I can find under the Streams tab just fine. Were they just missed/forgotten to be added to the playlist? Or is the playlist controlled automatically and maybe it has an issue? For instance, the video Verified WAN Show - WAN Show November 11, 2022 is clearly listed under Streams but it is NOT on The WAN Show Archive Just wanted to point it out in case it's unplanned... -Lenny

Last week Linus and Luke touched upon how retailers and tech retailers in the United States such as California have huge economies of scale, the sheer number of consumers allows super-specialized retailers to thrive whereas in Canada the retailers are shocked to discover the geography and population are so very different, (and even the spread-out geography makes online fulfillment a challenge). All true enough. It explains how Canadian Tire over it's life evolved quickly to be an "everything" store, the one-stop shop in town like the Hudson's Bay company back in the fur-trader days, or the Sears & Roebuck catalog. Also why London Drugs does electronics, they got in early and did it right building customer loyalty. The return of Zellers was mentioned, and Target's failure in that regard. If you don't know when HBC "closed" Zellers they "sold" many of the locations to Target swooping-in from USA. They learned the hard way in jurisdictions like Quebec where workers rights are well-protected (your mileage may vary, your own state/province might be ok treating employees like $#!^) turns out they could not simply fire/ "re-hire" the employees as if they're staring over again at zero, you buy the company you still owe them their position, seniority, pension, etc. But here's the thing. Because I know Luke Lafreniere has mentioned several times the team's great work on the inventory management system your team developed, this will likely be of deep interest to that team @LinusTech If you're like me, you'll enjoy this read immensely. Programmers know attention to detail matters, and it matters a ton. It's a great read and could easily be a case study in business school. Here is the fascinating story of how mundane and basic errors setting-up the crucial IT computer inventory software systems (information systems) led to the disaster that was Target Canada. Hi, first post, couldn't find the segment of the wan show where linus showed off the prototype bit holder, with the extra strong magnet bottom and so on, checked all the chapter titles and the helpful timestamps in the comments from epic youtube user Noki1119 for anything lttstore related of about the last 10 wan shows, couldn't find it. if someone could point me to the episode that would be spectacular, looking into it to see if i should buy a 3rd party bit holder, or wait for that one! thanks!

Hi yall, Hope everyone's home and safe I'm currently watching the clips from end of 2013 and if anyone wants to have a small #TBT moment, I'd suggest you check out the WAN Show archive as I am doing now: So looking back, it's very interesting how tech had evolved over the years, some of the funny bits that I picked out over the last few days watching these archives: Yes, we had Diesel and Slick It was around this time the PS4 and XBOX 1 were about to be released all these console war talks (which is funny because, that's pretty much whats happening with the next gens right now) A 5" Phone was considered a "Phablet" lmao SSD's were just making their way to the consumer market, Linus blown away by the Evo 840 performance In One of the WAN shows they were joking how funny it'd be to release a calendar with naked portraits of themselves.. well, who knew back then huh? One of the very first 4k Monitors debuted, the hype train was real HTC was still a thing, no Huawei back then The Witcher 3 Trailer had just dropped GTA V was just announced for "current" and next gen consoles - People were still speculating if it would come out for PC and lot's more! With around 3 WAN shows on average/day, I should be caught up in no time Anyways, if you are bored I'd definitely recommend you going through some of the older archives, a lot of memes and GIFs were born on these WAN shows Peace

Hey LMGers, not sure if this is the right place to post about this, but I was watching the WAN show tonight and noticed someone mention the Pinephone as something LMG should review. Pinephones are difficult to get ahold of lately due to delays in shipping from human malware, but I've currently got a Pinephone Braveheart Edition phone (as well as a Pinebook and a Pinetime) that I'd be happy to lend to LMG for a review for as long as necessary. Please let me know! Lefty

Disclaimer: I am posting this in the tech news category as this is related to the recent Zen 3 Launch, Linus and Luke has nudged the topic in the most recent WAN show 06/11/20 but in my opinion, there is more to it. Zen 3 has launched and you're after a new cpu you probably have seen at least several benchmarks by different tech youtubers and news outlets by now. Some of them show new ryzens beating intel by quite a margin, and some of them put them on par with i9-10900k and ever slower intel SKUs. This has been addressed by LTT in the latest WAN show episode. Linus attributes the discrepancies in reviews to the RAM configurations used for testing, but there is one more factor at play here. Uh... is our Ryzen 5000 Review WRONG?? - WAN Show November 6 , 2020 Some reviewers are still using rtx 2080 ti or using 3080 but testing on 1080p ultra settings. One would think that it should not matter much for 1080p testing, right? Not quite. If we'll look at 1% and 0.1% low performance, on this chart below (Gamers Nexus 5600x review) we can spot that all new Ryzens are performing better than i9-10900k on average, yet Intel still has better lows: This appears to be the case across many games, the reason Ryzen comes out on top is that above test is done on 1080p medium, not ultra. Anandtech included results for various settings and resolutions which is a helpful example: F1 2019 768p ultra low, new Ryzens stomp intel into the ground, same game on 1080p ultra and... how come it's so blue at the top of the chart? Conclusion: It occurs to me that new Ryzens have much higher performance ceiling than we thought, the reason why reviews end up being so different is the unexpected GPU bottleneck. When new Zen 3 CPUs and Intel 10th gen are limited by a GPU on the top end, Intel comes out on top due to better low frame performance. When there is no (or lesser) limit imposed by GPU, even ryzen 5 5600x beats i9-10900k in the average FPS. This is especially visible in CS:GO benchmarks which is one of the least GPU intensive titles. It looks like low frame performance improves for Zen 3 CPUs by a mile, with a faster RAM kit. That's why in LTT review, 1% low fps results look to be on par with Intel, as they have used 3600Mhz CL14 kit, contrary to multiple reviewers that are using 3200Mhz kits.
