Just curious of what people's thoughts are on this. I went with VR and am waiting for higher refresh rate 4k monitors and just for them to get cheaper too. I care a lot about frame rates so I wouldn't buy one yet. Plus, I figured virtual reality is more fun that just higher resolutions. I wasn't disappointed. I still wish I had a 4k monitor though Either or is a good answer really. To each their own. Just kind of want to see what other people think.

While looking up a direction for my career I ended on the MIT site. I found a feed that displays many of what some of them are doing in a particular field. I found this title " Enabling wireless virtual reality." Honestly the thought of being able to replace the HDMI cable with this device would be spectacular! http://www.eecs.mit.edu/news-events/media/enabling-wireless-virtual-reality

Dear People, Recently I did an outdoor event at a carnival using a few Vive Headsets as a VR Arcade. During the event our systems worked REALLY well except for a few specific times of the day. Is there some way on Vive or app to turn on the front camera or some kind of inside the headset that would show you where the headset was picking up IR signals from so we could track down what's causing the tracking problem? Maybe something that looks like the 3D front camera view but showed red colored lines or dots where it was getting interference from? Also, is there very much potential for the HMD for the Vive to overheat sometimes and cause any sort of problems? Extra info on what problems we were having: -Most of the mid day sun didn't cause a problem, but we started noticing tracking problems with some sunlight leaks coming into our tents. In one case it was one headset having a major problem at 2 or 3 specific points in the room scale. We ended up finding out that a car parked about a half a mile away was reflecting sunlight from it's windshield and just enough of it was shining through the trees to go through the front entrance of our tent (Entrance was facing away from the sun too which is why we were so confused for so long). -Another issue we sometimes had was tracking issues because of tiny pin holes in the top of our tent, or sometimes just worn down spots that weren't blocking sun. Cheers, Canto666Hades

I got my vive about 1 month ago and I love it to death. But me, and i'm sure many other VR owners, experience often collisions with furniture and walls in some of our VR sessions. I myself am particularly paranoid about even the lightest thrust of my controller into the wall. I'm just curious, how hard do i need to actually hit my controller before it breaks? And if I do hit it hard enough, will tracking become less accurate or will it stop tracking all together?

Oculus Rift? HTC Vive? This is not a post where I am trying to get advice for something I will never get, I have the money, I just want to know if I am making the right decision. I am interested in getting an Oculus Rift because there is a really good deal* at the moment for it and the touch controllers in a bundle for £399 (also $399 USD). So Oculus / Vive owners; Also I have read about the screen door effect** is it a huge massive issue? Or do only some people notice it? Is it worth it to invest into virtual reality, is the resolution of the headset worth it? Do you have any issues with your particular headset? Are they good products?... Were they worth the money?... Would you recommend?... Please comment and be honest, and even if you do criticize your particular headset, is it still worth getting? Thank you for any response submitted; Tom. * https://www.oculus.com/rift/ (On home page) ** https://www.vrheads.com/what-screen-door-effect-and-why-does-it-happen

HTC has announced its new subscription based VR service at CES today. It seems to be kind of like netflix for VR games, with the added bonus of social media interaction and personalization. https://blog.vive.com/us/2016/08/05/introducing-viveport/ With it comes a new website that allows you to sign up for a free trial when it becomes publicly available. No prices are listed on the announcement page at this time. https://www.viveport.com/ I'm pretty excited for this personally. One of the few things that prevented me from jumping into VR was the cost of buying games. I don't really care much about the social media stuff, but it might be cool to check my spacebook page while in vr.

Today at CES, HTC showed off their new replacement strap for the HTC Vive. The new strap, called the "Deluxe Audio Strap," seemingly mimics the (imo) superior Oculus Rift strap and also provides built-in audio. It has an adjustable dial in the back to fine tune the fitting. The lack of proper built-in audio at launch was the reason behind a lot of the Vive's criticism. No price has been announced yet, but it will be available in the second quarter of this year. In addition to the new strap, HTC has also unveiled the new Vive Tracker. The Vive Tracker is an accessory that can be attached to any real world object to be tracked in virtual space. This allows for 3rd party objects to easily be added in the game. For example, a tennis racket or a gun model. As a VR developer myself, this is incredibly exciting news. We get a more comfortable device and open the door to many accessories. I've already reached out to Valve for a dev kit, so follow me if you'd like to see an unboxing and review in the near future. I recently got a HTC VIVE setup 50 FT away from my computer. By doing this I have created a mess of cables. The cables are 2 HDMI Cables (one for vive and one for monitor) and an Ethernet cable which is used for the USB. Can I but the cables under a rug? How could I better organize my cables?

Is it a bad idea to hide cables under a rug? If it is a bad idea, should I put Gaffer tape on the cables then put the rug on top of everything? The cables are 2 50 FT HDMI Cables and one HDMI Cables. If your curious how I got the HTC Vive 50 FT away, I used these parts:https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4knypp/ive_been_using_this_50_extension_to_vive_in_my

So i was wondering is it is possible to use Second Life with Vive. I know that Oculus was working with Second Life to make it work together. But never really seen anybody do it or heard anybody has actually done it. I would love to be able to "walking" threw my own buildings, build while experiencing the scale of what i am building and fight in raids on other sims. It is time for me to get a PC again and thinking of getting also a Vive to use for Second Life so i wanted to know this: Does anybody who has a vive ever experimented with it? How was the experience? How is the operation of the controles? Was building easy or just a hassle? What made it worth it or what didn't make it worth it?

There are two games I've seen the gang play on their vr headsets that I want to try on my vive, but I don't know the name. One, is simply a game where the user has a bow, and shoots stuff, the other is one where they ahve a gun and little air guns fly at them and they get sheilds sometimes (it's kinda orange and looks a bit like tron)

According to Gfk's consumer survey the Playstation VR is set to outsell both the Vive and Rift combined, in the UK. Source: MCV This is great news for VR, and great news for sony. I think the way they managed to integrate more social features and even games where people can play on the screen against somebody wearing the headset really came through and helped them here. I'd be interested to see how psvr stacks up against the other headsets in other markets. I would imagine the picture is broadly the same as the uk.

For people spectating, could I use the mirror audio feature to have audio coming from my TV? It is important to note that the TV is connected to the PC, but not the speaker. Could I still setup the mirror audio feature.

Hello Everyone! I am interested in upgrading my VR setup, I currently have a Vive. I want to spend $500 or less on upgrades I can do, I am deciding on buying an Oculus Rift S? What do you guys think?

I have an og oculus rift and have been using a widmovr lense adapter, does anyone know if there's a way to just remove the need for that at all, like an app I can run in the background or something with my prescription typed in?

So a couple of days ago I upgraded my rig from a 1080 to a 2080ti and I thought "Great! Now I have even more powah for VR gaming!" Sadly, it was not an immediate win. Every 4-5 seconds in game, my VR headset would drop frames, or completely skip, causing the experience to be completely uncomfortable and unejoyable. I scoured so many websites and forums, watched 100's of videos all with a "me too" kind of vibe, but no real solution. I uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled again, cleaned out every last residue of driver and reinstalled again with no avail. I tweaked all the settings in every game from high to low. Still the same 4-5 second frame drops. But then I was pointed to something "maybe it's a CPU bottleneck?" My CPU only maxes out at 50-60% whilst playing VR, so its not chugging... "Maybe something is hogging the CPU cycles?" This triggered a thought; "doesn't the CPU pre-render frames before passing them onto the GPU?" And it clicked! If anyone else is having this problem do the following- (Nvidia users only sadly :9 me not know how to do it with AMD cards) -Go to your Nvidia Control Panel -Navigate to Manage 3D settings -Scroll down to the bottom where Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames is. -Set it to something higher than 1, preferably 4 for those who are running beasts. My game runs so buttery smooth now with absolutely no frame timing issues. Not even a little sneaky spike! Hope this helps those of you experiencing the whole frame timing issue

I'm having an issue with my vive controller if anyone could possibly help me. so basically my vive was working perfectly fine and I tried to set up the camera the shows next to the controller, for convenience. so it worked but after being activated one controller doesn't show on steamVR. it comes up green on the controller tho. I have reset the pc and paired them both multiple times, reset steam vr multiple times and I turned off the camera feature but still having an issue. the headset has been working fine until this point.

So I'm trying to get dirt rally to work on the vive. I have done everything that was asked and the game starts, then says syncing and then it stops. anyone know how to fix this issue. I know its recommended to be bought on oculus store but i already have it for steam.

Hey. So im buying a second hand vive this weekend, and I don't think my current RX 580 will be good enough to have a decent gaming experience in VR games. As a result, im looking to upgrade my GPU as well, and im conflicted about my GPU choice. I have budgeted $1000 AUD to spend on a GPU, so the RTX 2080 and Radeon VII are the cards of choice for me. Heres the problem; Radeon VII is generally a bit slower in games than the RTX 2080. It's also sold out everywhere. While the 2080 is faster, I do not want to support Nvidia at all over their anti-competition bullshit with GameWorks (gimping their previous gen and AMD cards to force you to buy a new one; https://www.criticalhit.net/technology/is-nvidia-being-anti-competitive-with-gameworks/) and their outright f*** you mentality to the open source Linux community. I want to have the best experience I can, but I don't want to support Nvidia at all. Should I wait for the Radeon VII to come back into stock and take a performance hit, or swallow my pride, buy a 2080 now, and spend the weekend playing SUPERHOT VR?

I am looking to build a PC for the living room that will serve as a 4K content PC and VR PC with my HTC Vive. The build is as follows: Ryzen 2600 16GB 3000MHz 240GB SSD 2Tb HDD B450 Mobo (Already have a case) Now that the 1660 and 1660Ti are out I am having a tough time choosing the best option for a VR PC. This will be in my living room serving this purpose. I am looking for the best value on this initial build. I plan to upgrade down the road (few years) with hand-me-down parts from my main PC (Ryzen 2600x and gtx 1080).

Hey all, I want to get a VR headset but i dont know what one to get. My computer can handle whatever headset i chose but I want to know if I should go for the cheaper rift s or the more expensive Vive Cosmos. I know that the Rift has a lower refresh rate and and a lower resolution but i would like to know if it is really that noticeable. I wanted to get a Valve Index but i live in Canada so not an option. TL;DR, are the slightly better specs really worth $400 more?

Hello! I'm currently having issues where games like Beat Saber would stutter and the headset would frame skip a lot. I'm not sure what's causing it, I tried having everything closed, reinstalling VR, different USB ports, and check for driver updates. Here are my computer specs: OS: Windows 10 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 RAM: 16 GB DDr4-3200 (G.Skill Trident Z) GPU: GTX 1660 Ti, GTX 1650 (secondary) Motherboard: Gigabyte X470 AORUS
