Does anyone have any first hand experience with VR on a 980ti. I am interested in gettin a vive but not sure if my card is good enough. I have a evga 980ti which I have gotten to 1450mhz on core clock

Here's an idea for a video I would be interested to see can u program a few drones to statically stay in positions with vive sensors attached and using a backpack use vr anywhere outdoors? Anyone else wanna see this happen?

I am thinking of getting the HTC Vive. However, my computer space is VERY small for Vive (and next to a stair case, meaning I could easily trip), but the room above my computer space is perfect for VR. Is their anyway to use the vive in a different room then the room of my computer.

Pretty straight forward question, which one should I be looking at getting? Rift or Vive? I personally see the Vive as a superior headset as you can actually get up and move with it (to an extent obviously). And I don't really like how the Oculus comes with it's own headphones attached and the controllers aren't even released yet. And yes, VR takes more power but I have a sufficient build (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/dcXgtJ) so don't worry. But another option is available and that's Playstation VR. Now Playstation VR games, I assume, should be more optimized and "perfected" to work on a Playstation but the games are very limited. Or should I not even bother jumping to VR because "it's just a fad" like 3D TVs? But on the other had I REALLY want to play VR pool and roast pirates in Elite Dangerous in VR. Anyway, any help or opinions are greatly appreciated!

Hey peeps, I have saved up enough money for the next upgrade in my computer. I was initially down to get an Occulus Rift but that crashed and burnt, then I looked at the Vive which looks promising. I have since however seen the technology slowly die in hype so am wondering if it is actually worth the million dollars it costs in Straya. I have since been looking at 4k ips g-sync panels which cost around the same. Should I pull the trigger or save for 8k lol. My PC is more than adequate for either HTC VIVE: https://www.ple.com.au/Bundle/626062/HTC-VIVE-VR-Headset--Free-128GB-Flash-Drive Asus ROG Swift 4k: https://www.ple.com.au/Products/622941/ASUS-ROG-Swift-PG27AQ-27-4K-4MS-G-SYNC-IPS-LED-Gaming-Monitor Cheers, GabeN

Buy Gear VR on Amazon: http://geni.us/UiB0GB Has the diminished experience of mobile VR killed its bigger brother on the PC? Is cost the only factor affecting purchasing decisions? The answer may not be so simple...

I just tested the Oculus Touch Controllers and from what I can tell they are just as accurate as the Vive controllers. They also are more comfortable and feel like they are my hand. Do you think now that oculus has touch controllers that are as good as the Vive games will add in support for them or at least a mod will come out that will make it possible?

Cost of VR is prohibitive in its current form also the content is still being developed. I for do not use VR rather will spend an hour gaming. But it excites me for the future. The leaps technology has come in the past 15 years truly amazes me. I for one bets on AR(Augmented Reality) where i see more potential then VR. Imagine being able to interact in the existing surrounding, You can do things like they did in spy kids movie. I believe AR will change the way we interact with computer will replace probably mouse and keyboard. I see both Microsoft surface dial And the dell Dial a step towards this. And the amount of application such technology will have in the medical, architecture , Science, it will totally be kickass. At the same time i do wonder will the technology become boring or more interesting. Just a personal thought

Source: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2016-10-20-htc-vive-has-sold-more-than-140-000-units-report As the article says, the vive has sold over 140,000 units which means it's actually doing pretty well considering how much of a "niche" market VR is considered to be at present. This is also the first real hard evidence we have ever gotten of how Desktop VR is doing. All I have to say is hopefully this trend continues and we will see cheaper, better VR in the coming years. I have tried a Vive at a friends house before and honestly it's quite an amazing experience, very different from traditional gaming. I just wish there was more games for it. But again, good to see its doing well so there is certainly a demand for games (though a small demand compared to other markets).

The HTC VIVE just went on sale on Newegg.com. They dropped the price a whole $200! The Price is now $599.00! Newegg is also a non-taxing, for most states, site, so that's a plus! I thought I'd let the community know. I am NOT advertising the Vive. I am simply informing you guys! Hope that's okay. Also, sorry if this is the wrong place for this. Wasn't exactly sure where this belonged. At first I thought Tech News, but I thought Peripherals was better place.

Just saw this news: http://hexus.net/tech/news/peripherals/109202-htc-vive-gets-substantial-price-cut-799-599-599/ So tempting. I've been wanting a Vive for a while but I'm finding it hard to justify the price - especially having never used one. A couple of weeks ago, I used a PSVR at a friend's house and it was awesome, re-igniting my desire to buy a Vive. Now I'm twitching over the buy button... What does everyone think? Take the plunge or wait for the next version (which could be soon)?

Hello, so with the Vive's price being dropped I might get a Vive. I ran both the Vive Check and SteamVR Check and they both say my laptop is capable. But my question is that is my ports ready. I have only an mDP 1.2 and I know my USB 3.0's are capable. My mDP is plugged into my monitor from mDP to full DP. My monitor supports MST so can the vive be daisy-chained off of the DP out? EDIT: Heres my laptop’s asus product page. https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/ROG-GL502VS/ GTX 1070, i7 6700hq, 16GB Ram and 250 name m.2 and 1tb HDD

My HTC Vive controller refuses to properly connect to my computer. The LED glows blue but after multiple repairings, it turns green and shows up on the SteamVR interface. Once it turns green SteamVR tells me that it cannot detect the controller. No matter where I move the controller it is not detected. I believed the cause was a hardware fault as the controller has hit the wall once before and I have seen that the ribbon cable can easily detach. After opening the controller and attempting to fix the issue I found that the ribbon cable was still connected and that nothing was out of place inside the controller. But it still refuses to connect and only shows a blue LED light. Thanks in advance.

Logitech is not content with just being a keyboard manufacturer for the physical realm, they also want to be your keyboard for working in VR. In a Vive blog post, Logitech is launching applications to try out their BRIDGE SDK, which is designed to allow for you to integrate keyboard use into VR, which honestly looks really cool and could be a better solution for any type entry you have to perform after putting on the headset... https://blog.vive.com/us/2017/11/02/introducing-the-logitech-bridge-sdk/ We will be accepting applications from today through November 16, 2017 for the initial 50 slots in our developers program. If there is sufficient interest we may build additional kits for purchase after the initial batch is distributed. ... During our initial explorations of VR, we were struck by the fact that keyboard use and text entry were necessary but not natural — and we’ve heard similar complaints from others. Our motivation comes from the research-backed understanding that in certain situations the user still needs a keyboard to interact with applications, particularly in productivity-driven or desktop scenarios, but also in games, social applications and content browsing. ... We believe that a physical keyboard should be present, as it delivers essential tactile feedback and a universal experience that people value. Whether you are using a keyboard for gaming, communication or productivity, it is an effective and efficient tool. Besides letters, numbers and symbols, keyboards provide a range of modifier keys for more complex actions, all learned, perhaps painfully, and stored in your memory over years of use. But VR can transform and augment that trusty keyboard – so easy to disregard – into a contextually aware companion for whatever application you use, becoming a palette for your creative workflow, dynamically providing you with any commands and shortcuts you need. The customization can range from simple to complex. Ever wanted to change the font on your keys? Make the font bigger? Highlight keys that work in a given app, or make the ones that don’t invisible? How about changing the color of your keyboard or keys? The possibilities are limited only by your imagination. While I wouldn't want to try to play any First Person Games through Keyboard and Mouse Controls on a VR set, the act of entering Data to login and create game accounts or other functions may be useful... Firstly, if there is a subforum please tell me and I will move this question over to it. Moving on now, is there a way to use windows mixed reality with the htc vive and if there isn't why not? Thanks

This add-in was already discussed in the news section, but now it's launching and there is a brief review published. I'm not really into VR - I tried Vive for a couple of hours in a local VR arena and I have to say, that the cable is really annoying and the screen resolution is too low for my taste. It looks like that in this headset generation at least one of my concerns might get solved. The Tom's hardware article is unclear on launch dates, but it appears that this add-in is launching in the US on 25th September (Microsoft Store). Price is 299$, but that product page has no useful info other than the release date (after adding it to the cart). I would like to add that my local reseller in Slovakia - Alza.sk/Alzashop.com (Alzashop is their effort to go international) - has it listed for preorder for 447€. Expected shipping date is 21st September. All kinds of useful info can be found in this article at Tom's hardware. What is more useful is a brief review posted on a website uploadvr.com. The things that matter, of course, are the picture quality and latency: This is a good sign. The lack of A/B testing worries me a bit, but if the latency was terrible, they would notice. For more info, visit the article. And one interesting tidbit for the end of the post. The F.A.Q. section reveals that the battery supports hot-plugging: So, what do you think? I think that it's great to see some progress, but we'll need to wait for more thorough reviews and see how well it performs and what the final price will be. For now, even 299$ is too much when you add it to the cost of the PC and headset. This is also an opportunity for @Slick to appear in front of the camera. I think that this is a good review material. ok, so my friend has the skylake GL502VS, and he has fried the HDMI port(thx dell). He is currently running his new monitor off the MiniDP port on it. And now that the VIVE is only 600 USD, he might get one. But here is his big dill(im sorry ok), he doesn't have any ports open for it. So he is wondering, could he daisychain to the vive/get some connector to run it thx

Well, suffice to say I am more than pleased with my purchase of the HTC Vive, but there's one small gripe i've had since i bought it. It is quite uncomfortable. When the headset is on it's either too loose and the front is heavy, or it fits right but is so tight that it squeezes my glasses into my face and also gives me a headache. I trouble shot for like an hour today and can just not figure out what the heck i'm doing wrong.

An updated version of existing one, a completely new stand alone unit. Not much news on it yet as only the patent has surfaced. New Zealand of all places: https://www.roadtovr.com/htc-applies-vive-eclipse-trademark-new-zealand/ Oculus has anounced their Oculus Go standalone slated for 2018. See more here: https://techcrunch.com/2017/10/11/oculus-announces-199-oculus-go-standalone-headset/ Not sure what is HTC up to and what Oculus Go standalone runs on. Having in mind existing VR solutions are not developed fully yet in terms of software I don't know how good the idea is to create standalone.

With today's Windows 10 Fall Creators Update going live, virtual reality (sorry Microsoft, Windows Mixed Reality) gains another player. And with Microsoft's purchase of AltspaceVR, and tie into XBox games (Halo: Recruit as a free download), this might be interesting. I'm particularly interested in the possibility of better headset designs, building on the HTC and Oculus experiences. I particularly like the one offered by Samsung (Odyssey). At $499, it offers resolution of 1440 x 1600 per eye (verses 1080 x 1200 for Vive), 60/90 fps framerate, 110 degree field of view and an AMOLED display, plus built-in AKG headphones. No external room sensors used, just cameras and sensors in the headset. I've been holding off buying any VR headset for some time, but have preordered this one for shipment Nov. 10. Main concern is short term amount of software that will be available for the Microsoft Mixed Reality platform and whether the camera based system will work as well as the Vive room sensor system. But I will find out! Not affiliated with Samsung or Microsoft in any way. https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/17/16487936/microsoft-joins-the-vr-battle-with-windows-mixed-reality-today https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-mixed-reality https://seekingalpha.com/news/3299116-microsoft-roundup-vr-acquisition-halo-recruit-launch-date-new-samsung-headset

I'm surprised there isn't a VR section here yet since there's so much to talk about how about it? I wanted to make a post warning people not to use the fresco registry fix in the Oculus tray tool for example because it caused a ton of issues on my system for example. All sorts of stuff to discuss on that topic. Would be a good time I think.
