Hi. I am trying to configure a jail in freenas inside virtualbox. The problem I am having is that I cannot access the internet inside my jail. My jail is configured without NAT. Only with VNET without DHCP. My jail's network settings are: root@reverse-proxy:~ # ifconfig lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 16384 options=680003<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,LINKSTATE,RXCSUM_IPV6,TXCSUM_IPV6> inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 nd6 options=21<PERFORMNUD,AUTO_LINKLOCAL> groups: lo epair0b: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 options=8<VLAN_MTU> ether 0a:00:27:b5:7c:2b hwaddr 02:4d:d5:00:05:0b inet 192.168.0.105 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255 inet 0.0.0.0 netmask 0xff000000 broadcast 255.255.255.255 inet6 fe80::800:27ff:feb5:7c2b%epair0b prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x2 nd6 options=23<PERFORMNUD,ACCEPT_RTADV,AUTO_LINKLOCAL> media: Ethernet 10Gbase-T (10Gbase-T <full-duplex>) status: active groups: epair My FreeNAS network configuration is: root@freenas[~]# ifconfig le0: flags=8943<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,PROMISC,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 description: 192.168.0.103 options=8<VLAN_MTU> ether 08:00:27:53:ea:5d hwaddr 08:00:27:53:ea:5d inet 192.168.0.103 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255 nd6 options=9<PERFORMNUD,IFDISABLED> media: Ethernet autoselect status: active lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 16384 options=680003<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,LINKSTATE,RXCSUM_IPV6,TXCSUM_IPV6> inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x2 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 nd6 options=21<PERFORMNUD,AUTO_LINKLOCAL> groups: lo bridge0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 ether 02:5a:f8:c5:85:00 nd6 options=1<PERFORMNUD> groups: bridge id 00:00:00:00:00:00 priority 32768 hellotime 2 fwddelay 15 maxage 20 holdcnt 6 proto rstp maxaddr 2000 timeout 1200 root id 00:00:00:00:00:00 priority 32768 ifcost 0 port 0 member: vnet0.1 flags=143<LEARNING,DISCOVER,AUTOEDGE,AUTOPTP> ifmaxaddr 0 port 4 priority 128 path cost 2000 member: le0 flags=143<LEARNING,DISCOVER,AUTOEDGE,AUTOPTP> ifmaxaddr 0 port 1 priority 128 path cost 2000000 vnet0.1: flags=8943<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,PROMISC,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 description: associated with jail: r-proxy as nic: epair0b options=8<VLAN_MTU> ether 0a:00:27:b5:7c:2a hwaddr 02:35:d0:00:04:0a inet6 fe80::800:27ff:feb5:7c2a%vnet0.1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 nd6 options=23<PERFORMNUD,ACCEPT_RTADV,AUTO_LINKLOCAL> media: Ethernet 10Gbase-T (10Gbase-T <full-duplex>) status: active groups: epair Executing the netstat -nr command, I have the following table: (please check attachment) root@reverse-proxy:~ # netstat -nr Routing tables Internet: Destination Gateway Flags Netif Expire 0.0.0.0/8 link#2 U epair0b default 192.168.0.1 UGS epair0b 127.0.0.1 link#1 UH lo0 192.168.0.0/24 link#2 U epair0b 192.168.0.105 link#2 UHS lo0 Internet6: Destination Gateway Flags Netif Expire ::/96 ::1 UGRS lo0 ::1 link#1 UH lo0 ::ffff:0.0.0.0/96 ::1 UGRS lo0 fe80::/10 ::1 UGRS lo0 fe80::%lo0/64 link#1 U lo0 fe80::1%lo0 link#1 UHS lo0 fe80::%epair0b/64 link#2 U epair0b fe80::800:27ff:feb5:7c2b% epair0b link#2 UHS lo0 ff02::/16 ::1 UGRS lo0 root@reverse-proxy:~ # In the virtualbox network configuration I have configured a bridge and the promiscuous mode> allow everything. I am experiencing some problems with VirtualBox. When booting up a newly created VM it runs for a short amount of time before running into errors. If I try to install a Windows VM it will always BSOD and VirtualBox will give an error message along the lines of "...memory could not be read". I get the same error with Linux machines, and I also tested ReactOS which goes through the installation, but when it reboots after the installation and I select "ReactOS" I would get the ReactOS logo and a loading bar, then the VM has a black screen and nothing happens. I have tried reinstalling the latest version of Virtualbox, same issue. Uninstalled and then deleted all Virtualbox folders still remaining (.Virtualbox in the user folder, anything left in Program files), installed a slightly older version of Virtualbox (6.1.10), same issue. I considered trying out VMware, but during the installation I was told by VMware that it is not supported on my version of Windows at the same time as HyperV is installed, either uninstall HyperV or update Windows. I was at the time on Windows 10 1909, which I have now updated to 2004. Tried Virtualbox again after updating Windows, but still the same issue. However I don't get errors in Virtualbox anymore (memory could not be read), I only experience the issues within the VMs (Windows BSOD, Ubuntu stops on installation due to HDD or DVD error, general error message, ReactOS same issue as before). When checking task manager I noticed that the HDD which is where I have the VMs and ISO files stored is running at 100% disk activity the entire time when the VMs try to install. Response time seems to be acceptable, but not great. So I tried storing the VMs and ISO files on an SSD that works well, but still same issue in Virtualbox. I have tried a lof of different VM settings in Virtualbox, but can't get anything to work. I mentioned HyperV which I have installed on my system. HyperV has worked perfectly fine the entire time with the same ISO files, same HDD and SSD, no errors at all, and running multiple VMs on the same slow HDD with HyperV has worked fine the entire time. But Linux support on HyperV isn't great, which is why I would like to get Virtualbox to work as I've had great experience with Virtualbox in the past. Any ideas?

Hello there! I've recently installed VirtualBox both on my pc and laptop. I have two operating systems which I want to install ( Kali linux and Metasploitable). My laptop started up the operating system, without any problems, but my PC had a bad time. VBox said that VT-x is disabled, which is not, because I enabled Virtualisation in UEFI. I have attached the Vbox error below. I've checked HyperV, and it is disabled. I don't know what I should do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a ryzen 7 1700 cpu with a b350 board. I can't get any virtual machine working. I am a computer science student and a computer tinker as well. I have virtualization enabled in the bio and with virtual box an attempt of installing parrot os and now kali linux is unsuccessful. Alright so both operating systems boot and I have no issue reaching the main menu (where you choose live mode, installer, or etc) But if I try parrot os's the installer I will get rcu_sched kthread starved for jiffies, or something about spectre v2 mitigation, and after trying a few times of trying again I just get a black screen (same with installer). Now parrot os just gives me a black screen after option is selected. Kali os gives me this after awhile of hanging (selected the installer) picture below. Any help advice or anything would be greatly appreciated as I would love to run a ubuntu vm for maybe a website or something (not a fully thoughtout idea).

I do a fair bit of virtualization, a lot less gaming than I used to, more and more scraping, and voip -- sometimes all at the same time -- I know... yolo. I had 16 GB of RAM, but was starting to feel it drag. It isn't dragging anymore, but now I want to squeeze every last bit of performance out of this system. Where do I start? 3rd party software? Power profiles? Advanced system settings? Is there a knob somewhere I can crank up to the max? In VirtualBox I literally increase memory allocated by using a slider. What about my in native system, Windows 10? Other key specs i7-7700HQ @ 2.8 GHz 250 GB SSD to boot 1 TB HD Storage GTX 1050 ti Something else cool that I can't think of here Oh, by the way, I'm on a 32-bit operating system. JK, its 64. All suggestions are super welcome, eh!

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS through VirtualBox on my Asus UX303UB Laptop, the specs are as follows: i7-6500U GTX940M 2GB 12GB RAM 512GB SSD Windows 10 3200x1800 Display However, it is running at an unusable pace, with simple dragging of windows chopping along the screen and text appearing seconds later. Anyone familiar with this issue?

I'm trying to run a 64 bit guest in Virtualbox, but only have the 32bit options. I have VT-x enabled and am running Win 10 on a i7 3770k (no VT-d). Hyper-V is disabled. When reading up I read that some other program could be using VT-x and be "taking it away" from VB. Is there any way to check for that possibility? (googling din't really help with that...) Any help would be really appreciated!

Hi! So I have on my laptop (see profile for specs) 3 virtual machines, 1 windows 10, 1 server 2012, and 1 pfsense router. No matter what network configuration in the settings I choose, the virtual machines don't pick up my home network. Can someone help please? EDIT: As I was writing this article McAfee informed me that my windows 10 machine connected to the network, and I can see it on my router's gateway, but cannot access the internet from the machine itself. Neither the pfsense machine or the windows server 2012 machines are running. The win 10 network configuration machine is configured at the moment is attached EDIT2: The win-10 machine has started working, can access the internet and appears on my router, but the other machines aren't working still.

I am trying to build a PC for Minecraft, Virtualbox, audio editing, and maybe a little video editing. I know the power supply is overkill, but it's cheaper than one of a lower capacity one. PCPartPicker link: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/FFz8M8 I Will be okay with onboard graphics until I have enough money for a GPU.

As said above, when I'm installing VirtualBox (the latest version) windows crashes and reboots my PC. I download BlueScreenView and it shows that it has something to do with "hal.dll" and "ntoskrnl.exe". Any help on this matter would be appreciated!

So I'm running Windows Server 2008 on VirtualBox as part of an IT course I'm doing and I've bridged connections between a local domain on the virtual machine and the internet where I'm doing the course and the internet is painfully slow. The first adapter is a NAT and the second adapter is an internal network. I'm trying to load a page and it's frozen halfway during loading. This is relatively new to me so please excuse my lack of knowledge and experience.

Hiya, I'm currently having trouble getting my Windows 10 OS running in virtualbox to be able to recognize any USB devices other than the keyboard/mouse I'm using. I'm trying to use this to get used to windows 10 to see if I wanna make the full upgrade, but it's pretty annoying not being able to use any of the devices I would normally use. For the record, I have tried using BOTH usb 3.0 and 2.0 devices, neither which are being picked up. I get a message saying essentially that the device is busy and cannot be added, even if I eject it from use in the regular windows OS I'm running. Additionally, when I go into the VirtualBox manager and go into the USB devices in settings, while I can add/remove devices at will, in the above section is selected USB 1.1 (OHCI) controller, with USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 being greyed out (as well as the USB 1.1) such that no changes are able to be made. Any help would be appreciated! -Sephiroth

Enabled VD-t, now there is an "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" error
zil posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I was wanting to mess around a bit with VirtualBox, but wasn't getting 64-bit options, read I had to enable VD-t in the BIOS, but once I rebooted, it came up with an INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error. I then disabled it again, but to no avail. I didn't change any other settings what so ever either, so I have no idea how to fix it. I would very much prefer it if I didn't have to reinstall windows. My boot drive is a RAID 0 setup with two Kingston V300 120 Gb SSD's if that helps.Cheers- 2 replies

Long story short I'm getting into hacktivism to spark my interest and give me purpose for the time being. Also, learning this stuff has been cool so far. I've installed Oracle VM Virtualbox on my windows 10 pc, downloaded and added the extension. I've also downloaded a copy of Linux Mint. How do I install Mint in the virtual machine? Do I need to create a bootable usb drive? thanks sincerely, noob.

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop that will suit my needs. I've been looking around (here and there) for a while, but I don't keep up on hardware as much as I'm sure many people here do. I'm hoping for some help. What I want: -Something lightweight and thin, but durable. I travel for work and other reasons, so this is very important to me. -I'm a student, so I need to be able to do schoolwork on it. Most schoolwork doesn't require much, but I need the ability to run VMs on Virtualbox (probably no more than one at a time), and use GNS3. -Battery life is important to me (again, travel). -Screen size between 13-15". I don't want a 17" monster, but something bigger than a tablet would be good. What I don't want: -An optical drive, or anything else that adds unnecessary bulk that people these days don't use. Seriously, I don't remember the last time I used a CD/DVD for anything. -A gaming laptop. This machine isn't intended to be for gaming. It's for work, school, studying, research, and video chats/conferences. What would be preferable: -SSD -numberpad on the keyboard. -something that runs fairly cool. What doesn't matter: -The operating system, bloatware, or ridiculous certificates that comes with it. I'm probably going to use OpenSUSE as my primary OS, but I'm leaving my options open for things like Debian or CentOS (In other words, whatever comes with it will be wiped). Price range: -I dunno. I certainly don't want to spend $2000. In fact, I don't really want to spend over $1000, but I guess it just depends. I'd like to find something in the area of about $700-800 (USD - I'm American) or so, if that's possible. I'd like to not spend more than I need to spend. I'm still a student paying for tuition out of pocket. That's not cheap. Any ideas?
