So I got home from work yesterday and tried launching a game through Steam. However, nothing would launch after the prompt "Preparing to Launch <insert game>". Thinking it was a problem with the Steam client, I exited Steam completely and attempted to open the executable (.exe) file from my HDD that holds games (Windows and Steam are installed on my 128GB Kingston HyperX SSD). I received multiple errors, some of which included rebuilding and repairing the Steam client registry, prompts that I was logged in with another user on the computer into the Steam client (very unlikely since Task Manager doesn't show multiple Steam clients open and only one user account is registered to the computer) and a few DirectInput errors. I cleared out the Steam Download Cache and verified the local files in a few games that didn't launch properly, but it didn't fix it. I reinstalled the Steam client, but I still couldn't launch games through Steam or directly. I checked Windows using sfc/scannow in Command Prompt, but there were no apparent issues. I removed any programs, including Kaspersky Internet Security and iOBit Advanced System Care 10, that might interfere with Steam, but nothing... I ran the chkdsk utility in Command Prompt on my HDD (3TB Seagate 7200 RPM), but no bad sectors were found. I restored my PC to a previous System Restore point (prior to installing The Witcher 3 through GoG Downloader), still no fix. The install process had removed a Visual C++ Runtime 2013 package. I finally decided to reinstall Windows 10 and Steam, but after making my HDD the primary Steam Library, I still encountered the same issues. Strangely, I moved one or two games to a library folder on the SSD, and they launched perfectly through Steam and directly. I'm in the process of copying over 1TB of games to an external HDD, so I'll check to see if they launch from there. Otherwise, does someone have a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know of some good reading or videos that talk about fundamental aspects of games? Like why people play games. Why some games do better than others. What do 'good' games capitalize on to make players 'want' to play the game? Why do people spend hours and hours playing games like Kerbal? I mean it's fun, but why is it fun? There's no real 'endgame', there's no competition, etc.. Why do people decide to put effort into improving their skills when they don't really seem to get anything out of it? Why do I play and greatly enjoy games like Half-life when I know the story is already planned out? I'd love some stuff that talks about this sort of thing. Gives examples, ways to apply it to video game design, etc.. Hell if you want to give your 2 cents I'll read that too. I've been working on a game. I have all the gameplay 'mechanics' layed out and a good story. I think it'll be fun and all, but it's like having built CS:GO without having ranks. Most people wouldn't give a s***.

I was wondering if you guys know if there is a major performance difference between games played on Win10 vs Win7? I have Win10 and I mainly play Gta5, Euro Truck Sim 2, American Truck Sim, BF4, and Far Cry 4 and those games feel too laggy. I think it has to do with all of the default Win10 programs. I was gonna dual boot Win7 and 10 but I wanna know if Win7 will actually make a difference.

So, if you (somehow) don't know already, the TF2 Jungle Inferno update was just released to the public. I just loaded up my game for the first time after the update, and I saw the new UI, so I knew it was the new update. I went to casual matchmaking and... well... sat there for at least 5 minutes, if not more. I was never assigned to a game. I closed the game and decided to try it again about 30 minutes later. I did some offline practice on bots just to see if it worked, and it did. But, casual still took forever, and I don't have the patience to wait 15 minutes for matchmaking, especially if nothing ever happens. Why is this happening? Is it something wrong with my internet, something wrong with my PC, or is this happening to everyone else too?

Hi. I'm having a problem with my Logitech G35 USB headset, I've had it for a year and a half now with FLAWLESS use, no damage to it, and ultimately a great experience with it so far. When PUBG (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds), I played it and experienced this issue with my headset. Every 20-30 minutes, my headset will cut off ALL sound as if someone was unplugging it, and then plugging it back it. When i'm talking about all sound, i'm talking about spotify music in the background, discord comms, steam msg notifications, and every single bit that would play through your headset.I want to make this crystal clear; this is the ONLY game that this happens to. I have never experienced anything like this in my 9 years of PC gaming. MY SPECS*CPU: AMD FX-8320 Vishera 8-Core 3.5 GHz*GPU: Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 *RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600*OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit*Motherboard: GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0*POWER SUPPLY: Sparkle Power 350w FSP350-50GMN *OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bitPERIPHERALS*Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma*Keyboard: Corsair K65 RGB LUX*Mousepad: Razer Firefly Chroma*Headphones: Logitech G35 / CORSAIR VOID RGB USBWhenever it seems that I am on the battlefield or in spawn area, this glitch happens. When I am in the squad lobby where you ready up, the glitch has NEVER happened there. Only when my character is ingame.I am not overclocking any of my components, and I have tried uninstalling drivers, reinstalling drivers, and different USB ports. I will gladly reward anyone that PERMANENTLY fixes my issue with some steam skins. Please help!EDIT: I recently purchased a Corsair VOID RGB USB headset, and the same problem is still happening.

Just for fun. List something funny that no one has probably ever heard of. I'll start with "down under dan". It's kind of terrible, the accents are super stereotypical, it starts out with a horrible button mashing sequence, but once you get past all that.. it's actually really fun. Sort of like an old sierra game like space quest but with some RPG elements.

Almost every video game we play, even if we end up loving them, has flaws. What are some video games that you found perfect except for a certain... weakness or two? It could be a level, mechanic, character, etc. I know there are video games subforums, but they are sectioned into different platforms and my question encompasses all of them. For me, it was Persona 5. There was an incredibly frustrating dungeon in the late-game that turned you into helpless mice. Going into combat could prove fatal for your party.

Hi everyone, To start out, I believe my PC has been running slower. I used to get a solid 60fps or higher on max settings + v sync, in titles like Borderlands 2, Insurgency, 7 Days to Die, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2, Day of Infamy, Battlefied 4, PayDay 2, and 300-400fps on Age of Empires [But any computer can run AOE]. About one to two months ago, after playing Insurgency and recording with Nvidia's ShadowPlay, I noticed an audio reverb and distortion in my recording. I then saw that Nvidia came out with a new driver, I believe it was driver 382.53, however, I am not 100% sure. Once I updated that all My games went to crap. I had a drop in FPS note* none of the settings changed in the games, and where once I was getting a solid 60, I now was getting low 30s and very inconsistent FPS. After weeks of trouble shooting I turned back the driver to an older one, however, things are still not how they used to be. My FPS is still low, and I can no longer play Insurgency, 7 Days to Die, and several other games due to this problem. I am also a content creator and use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit weddings, and adventure races, and camp videos. Adobe is significantly slower. I can hardly preview my video at 1/4 quality in 1080p with out it studdering every 5 seconds. This leads me into my second question, I was planning on upgrading for smoother editing. Do you have any suggestion? If y'all have any suggestions please let me know and thank you for your time. Here are my specs- AsRock z97 fatal1ty Killer Ballistix RAM 2x 8GB- *would not recommend* Intel Core i7 4790k 4.0 GHz *not overclocked and stock cooler* Asus Strix GTX 960 a cheap 1tb HDD a cheap 125 gb SSD an optical drive 500w PSU Once again thank you for your time.

A couple weeks ago I started playing Arma3 again, I don't remember if I noticed the artifacts then but a day or so after I started I updated to latest Nvidia drivers. After, I noticed a LOT of black and white flickering artifacts, not huge ones but like small clusters of pixels and a lot of them. It only happens some of the time and areas like dense forest and on some objects like trees and clouds. Changing the settings haven't helped at all. Then I noticed it in runescape, but only in the games cutscenes. Another issue is Black Desert Online will now randomly make my entire computer seize up. No ctd, no bsod, just completely freeze the monitors. If I have a youtube video playing on the other screen the audio will keep going up to how far the buffer was then it will stop as well, can't move the mouse or anything and have to hard reset. Then on the other hand Skyrim SE has both the flickering artifacts and comp seize (which had zero issues before). I figured at first oh it's the driver. So I updated it again as soon as the next one was out. Didn't fix. Then I rolled back to the one I had previously before I went to Arma3 (372.70) and the issues remain. I tried nuking it from my system and reinstalling, that too did not help. It's not overheating, it's factory overclocked. I've tried looking to see if anyone else has my exact issues and I can't find anything, though my googlefu isn't the greatest. (I'm extremely tired while typing this so please excuse any incoherent rambling...) Update: Tried nuking driver again with guru3d's DDU in safe mode. Still getting some artifacting but not as bad so far and I haven't crashed 'yet'... The card is an ASUS GTX780 DirectCUIIoc.

Hey All, I hope all is well I just watched LTT recent video about upgrading the wifi And I just have a small question, I am currently living in a place where broadband is super slow I mean like less than 1 MB in download and less than 100 kB in upload and, I am currently connecting to the Internet through an unlimited plan from the phone provider through a 4G Sim inside a router, I recently started buying computer parts to build my first computer to start gaming/streaming/video editing, however with those terrible speeds I’m unable to do so and when I test the 4G speed it’s actually kind of decent, you can reach up to 30 to 40 MB download And 10 to 15 MB of upload, my main question however would be the ping or latency in video game, so I was hoping if you can help me find a good 4G Sim card router that will give me good speed and at the same time low latency for video games and streaming at the same time. Hello, i have low fps in minecraft, while having low cpu and gpu usage with SEUS shaders. Total CPU usage hpvers around 10-20%, but afterburner says that i have CPU3 CPU7 and CP12 almost maxed out while other ones have random spikes of usage to around 50% or just idle. My GPU is sitting at around 40-50%. Because i play with Vsync on all the time, i dont notice how much the fps fluctuates above 60fps. I also use Realistico texture pack. My specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 @4.0 GHz with AIO GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 SC2 RAM: 16GB(2x8) Team DDR4 @3000MHz SSD(where minecraft is stored):Kingston A400 120GB Monitor: some cheapass second hand monitor 1650x1080 @60 Hz

So I was just doing some reading this morning and saw that Nvidia enabled RTX features on some GTX cards, like my GTX1070. So I checked, and updated my driver to the latest version. (My old Nvidia driver was from January) and launched SOTTR. A quick benchmark later and now all my frame rates are all goofed up, even with RTX disabled. I've also checked, and other than 1080 and 4k resolutions showing the 60hz options, everything else only has the 30hz option. I'm using a 4k 240hz display, so I doubt that is my problem.. Final note, with resolution set at 4k 60hz in game, on Ultra w/o RTX I average 48fps using in game benchmark,.. Basically, I want to drop my resolution to "2k" and enable RTX with the hopes of getting better than the 30fps I'm being limited to. (And still run ultra settings) 4k-60hz w/ RTX on Ultra is crawling at 20fps, so that just won't work... And 1080-60hz w/RTX gets me like 58, but it's 1080, so it still looks like poop... Does Anyone know a work around or a way to force the game to add in the option for higher framerates on the lower resolutions? Any thoughts??? And please!!! No negative replies!!! And NO, I don't wish to rollback drivers, because I'd like to give the RTX feature a whirl.. (But maybe will later) Gigabytr Z370 Aorus Gaming Ultra Wifi-OP Core I7-8086k 5ghz all core OC 16GB DDR4-3200 WD Black 1TB NVMe SSD 32gb Intel Optane 2TB Sata SSD storage GTX 1070 FE

Hello fellow gamers, I am looking to make a game (at this point that's as far as I have gotten). I would love to get some creative ideas and or just start a discussion. If anyone is interested in helping develop once there is a clear direction that would be great. I do know that I am using unity so if anyone is even somewhat literate in C sharp that would be great (i cant code for s**t btw) so ya I'd love to start talking about some ideas. Jackson.

So a few days ago I was playing GTA V just fine, closed it and opened it a half hour later max, and it was using 95% of my cpu, all of the tests I’ve ran are saying my cpu and gpu are fine, temps in my bios are saying motherboard, cpu and gpu are around 30°f. i took it to my buddies house last night, we reset the overclocking on my cpu (which had not been changed since I got the cpu about a year or two ago) and it worked perfect again!... until I brought back home an hour later. Back to ANY video game taking 95% of my cpu. its been a headache and a half to me so I would really appreciate as much help as possible for this. Given that my pc is my baby and my main source of fun and entertainment. Here is my pcpartpicker list of everything I have for my pc. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jrxV29 if any of you who wish to help, need ANY more information that I have not provided, I’ll be happy to provide it. At time of posting I am at work and will not be home to do anything with my pc for 4-5 hours
