Hi there! I'm looking for some eyes to help me verify a build I'm planning to execute twice. One for me, one for SO. It's taken me months to find one GPU but recently I've got a lead on a second and that has triggered me to start to plan the rest of the builds. Aim Light gaming, mainly e-sports\indie titles. We're not heavy AAA title gamers. SO is a data scientist and actively works with ML and AI data modelling with libraries like TensorFlow. I freelance locally as both videographer and editor next to boring dayjob that is 90% boring Teams meetings. We both share "maker" hobbies and are novice 3d modelers. Budget and Location Less relevant here - Mainland Europe so we use €, I'm hoping to stay under 3k but I think the cpus will be the most influential there. I can go over if needs be. We spend 10 - 15hrs a day at our desks, either working from home @ dayjob (Thanks, pandemic) or working on pet projects / freelancing. We tried setting up an office space but quickly realized spending the majority of our day cooped up in a converted spare bedroom when we have an entire livingroom to live in was dumb. Why the upgrade? Currently I work on a 10yr old 3770k+HD7970 build... I think this says enough. Working with proxies in Adobe is a godsend - I literally would not be able to edit some of my footage without proxies but DaVinci Resolve long since denied even starting on my machine, flatly producing a gpu error. SO has a slightly more recent build, sporting a 6600K+GTX1070 but the performance is nowhere near where she believes it could be on the RTX platform and she's hoping she can rid herself of some cuda incompatibilities between driver versioning and hardware. I think my main insecurity is motherboard and whether I did a halfway decent job of finding that sweetspot where it'll support fancy stuff without the fluff of being too "Gamer" or offering overclocking features which neither of us will use so I'm hoping someone can point at the MoBo and offer words of encouragement or advice. If there are any pointers on the rest - I'd be happy to take more advice into consideration! We're good on peripherals and storage. Thanks in advance!

As the title suggests, is it possible for me to purely use my GPU for video rendering using Sony Vegas Pro 14 instead of my CPU? Reason: my CPU overheats and shuts down during rendering. Context: Tower position is okay, good air intake and PC is clean from dust etc. It's just my current CPU cooler is the stock AMD (wraith, i believe). CPU temps shoot up to 80-ish at the start of the render and shuts downs in less than 2 mins. Any help is greatly appreciated. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 GPU: RTX 2080 RAM: 32gb ddr4

Hey lovely people of the community! I am planning to build a new Ryzen PC and I could really do with some advice from a bit more tech savvy guys out here. Before getting into the configurations and my usage, I would like to point out that I am an absolute noob when it comes to the technical details. I for sure know what frequency and clock speed etc is, but I have absolutely zero idea what things like L3 cache, latencies, CCX modules etc mean. Also I donot understand how those fancy bars and benchmarks exactly function, so I request you guys to please give me suggestions bearing in mind that I am a complete layman So I am a designer and animator. My primary usage is going to be Adobe After effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Illustrator, while I also plan to start using Cinema 4D soon. I do not play games and do not intend to overclock my system. After an intensive research during the lockdown months I came up with the following build Ryzen 7 3700X MSI B450 Tomahawk Max GEFORCE GTX 1650 Super DDR4 [3200MHz] 16/32 GB RAM (Depending on the budget) Samsung 860 QVO [1 TB] WD Green [240 GB] Antec VP550 But then AMD introduced the 5000 series and put me in a serious dilemma. Now the build I am planning is Ryzen 5 5600X MSI B550 A-Pro GEFORCE GTX 1650 Super DDR4 [3200MHz] 16/32 GB RAM (Depending on the budget) Samsung 860 QVO [1 TB] WD Green [240 GB] Antec VP550 (Kindly note that since I do not plan to play games, I do not need the fancy Nvidia 3000 series or the AMD 6000 series GPUs) So now the dilemma I am facing is, should I go with the 3700x build or the 5600x one? (Since both are almost in the same price range). Will the changed architectures and design make a difference for the type of usage that I am planning? From what I have read and understood, I have come to the conclusion that, if I get the 3700x at a substantially lower cost than the 5600x (around $40-$50 difference), then I'll go for the 3700x, orelse I will go for the 5600x. Also I would really REALLY appreciate it if you guys could help me with a step by step guide on how I can optimize the performance of the PC, I've heard that Ryzen does weird stuff with RAM speeds and stuff. Thanks a lot in advance

Hi all! I'm having trouble exporting my footage in Premiere Pro (in Media Encoder as well). All is swell when I first start rendering but it eventually stops about 10-30 seconds in. This isn't on a certain frame or a certain part of the project - it seems to happen at random. I've had something like this issue before but I've tried all of the things I did then to fix it to no avail. This is especially frustrating now because every time I tell Media Encoder or Premiere export to stop rendering it (since it never finishes), it will freeze the program and I have to force quit it. Even worse, I can't even get to the render screen now. I load into the project, don't touch it for 5 minutes so it has ample time to load, and about three clicks in it freezes and I have to force quit again. I highly doubt this is a reflection of my PC's ability to handle this footage, especially since I've done so before. Something else to note: I have several AE compositions in this sequence I'm trying to export. However, as I'll note in a bit, I'm still having trouble rendering even without the comps included. Here's what I've tried already: 1. Turning it on and off again (A.K.A restarting the program & my computer about a million times) 2. Removing all effects (Lumetri is the only one applied to these clips) 3. Rendering in a different sequence 4. Rendering in a different project 5. Rendering without Adobe Media Encoder 6. Updating all my applications (I tried rendering something before the update and I'm fairly sure I ran into the same problem but I can't be certain because I closed the program and tried to do it later. By the time "later" came, I had already updated my applications) 7. Pulling all of my hair out Here's what I've tried that has (sort of) worked: 1. Rendering a tiny portion of the clip - it successfully renders when it's dealing with 2-3 seconds of content. This includes rendering the AE comps. The full video is around 2 minutes. I've more or less isolated the problem to the program. This problem rendering persists in an entirely different project saved to a different drive with different footage (which is also on a different drive). The footage I tried to render in a different project was 1080p, 30FPS, MP4. The footage I need to render is 4k, 24FPS, MP4. Here are my PC specs: OS: Windows 10 MB: MSI Z390-A PRO CPU: I9 9900k @ 3.60GHz GPU: EVGA GEFORCE RTX 2080TI RAM: 64GB DDR4 2666MHz STORAGE: 4 SSDs in RAID 0 (This is where my footage is stored. Don't worry about volatility, I have 4 backup locations), 1 SSD for system, 2 1TB HDD, 1 500GB NVME M.2 SSD I'm at my wit's end here and I have people waiting on me to complete this project at work. I'd greatly appreciate any insight you have into this issue. Thanks in advance for your help! Best Regards, Erin Joan

Hello all, I've to make a quick 3 minute animated video for a school project. I'm not that skilled video editing and don't have access to any pro level programmes. I already looked at DaVinci Resolve and it's not going to run on my laptop. I think my best bet is to go with some open source piece of software. Also, I'm thinking about making my video something similar to this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJyWVJs0kIY). I'd really appreciate, if you could give me some advice about how I go about making something like that too. Thank you! :-)

I have struggled to find an answer to my questions about Premiere Pro so I figured I'd come to a community that knows the ins and outs of all things tech. I have started to create and edit videos and have run into a few Premiere Pro performance hiccups that are leaving me confused. I don't have a beefy system by any means, but I'd expect it to perform a bit better than it is with Premiere. Windows 10 Ryzen 5 3600XT Processor GTX 1070 GPU NVMe 512GB Samsung SSD 32GB 3200Mhz RAM 850W 80+Gold PSU I have two main performance issues: Sometimes playback is super choppy to the point where editing becomes near impossible. Definitely not all the time, it seems to affect one or two source files here and there but not all the files imported into the project - even though all of the files I bring in are the same quality (recorded on OBS at 1920x1080@60fps) When I experience the choppiness I do the normal stuff, I lower the playback resolution to 1/2 or 1/4 and turn off High Quality Playback. I've tried to make proxies though I get an error that the audio format is not supported - but I feel like with my build I shouldn't require proxies for HD footage. Maybe 4k...but I wouldn't expect to need proxies for HD. Any of these attempts to make it smoother do absolutely nothing which has me even more stumped. Why is running HD footage at 1/4 resolution not buttery smooth? It's not like I have super intensive effects - at least I don't think (maybe I underestimate the intensiveness of my effects). Exporting takes longer than expected and it barely makes use of my hardware (this also leads me to assume that the first issue is related to Premiere not properly utilizing my hardware as well). It'll take me 15 minutes or so to render a video that would have taken me 10 minutes or less on my old i7 4770K with the same GPU and 16GB of super slow RAM on a SATA SSD. That is unless I somehow changed something in my workflow and can't remember. I noticed this when I went to render my latest video and expected to hear my fans ramp up a bit and realized they weren't ramping up at all. Pulled up the performance tab of Task Manager and noticed my CPU was barely being used at 15% but mostly hovered around 10% and dipping to 2-3% at times and my GPU would initially ramp up to ~25% then quickly drop to 1-5% for the bulk of the render and then finally ramped up to 45-50% for the last minute or so, all while remaining super cool. As for my RAM, when I exported straight out of Premiere it wouldn't go higher than 12GB used, when I exported with Adobe Media Encoder it went to ~14GB used. Sorry if this is a bit all over the place and confusing but I am very confused myself and was hoping for some insight and maybe even a fix.

Hello everyone This might seem a bit strange, but this setup is the only feasible solution I could think of. So this setup is going to be in an RV (recreational vehicle), a 25ft motorhome. The nas and the laptop cannot be in the same place, due to lack of space, and also the layout of the particular motorhome. Also, the laptop needs to have access to the Nas from different positions inside the motorhome, so running cables isn't really an option, as that would spoil the aesthetics, and drilling holes on the roof or the floor isn't practical. The Nas is gonna be a custom built ryzen system with a mini itx motherboard with 2.4Gbps WiFi 6, inside a fractal design node 304 with six 18TB Seagate ironwolf pros, and is gonna be running windows with a raid card , configured in RAID 5 (I know windows isn't ideal for storage servers, but from what I've found out, freeas, unraid, or even CentOS for that matter don't have good support for wireless network cards, and although I could just get a 10Gb NIC in the motherboard, and connect it to the WiFi 6 router, and run zfs on freenas, I'd have to buy one of those expensive routers with a 10Gb LAN port on the back, and also I'd have to use one of those cheap and unreliable m.2 to sata HBAs, since it's a mini itx motherboard, so only 1 pcie slot), so I need to run windows for the motherboard drivers for the WiFi 6 network adapter. The router I have in mind is a D-link wifi 6 router advertised to be capable of up to 4.8Gbps throughput , and since laptops have WiFi 6, the theoretical maximum throughput from the nas to the computer should be 2.4Gbps, as I couldn't find a mini itx am4 motherboard with WiFi 6 throughput highter than 2.4Gbps. Now my question is whether 4k ProRes RAW ( the most demanding thing that'll be done with this setup) editing is possible with this setup. ( I know that theoretical max transfer speeds don't translate well to real world performance, but I still want to get an idea about how much performance I should expect) And also, is there any other setup that might be better in this case? I know this setup is far from ideal for 4k video editing, but it's the best I could think of. Any suggestions are appreciated.

laptop LAPTOP recommendation for color grading
SunilRekt posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I'm in need of recommendations for a laptop with good color accuracy, hardware and good brightness (400-500 nits). I do mainly photography & videography so color grading and color accuracy are KEY .I've been eyeing the Razer Blade 15 4K Oled and the Dell XPS 17". I'm not much of an apple guy although they make lovely displays on their macbook pros, but they've soldered on literally everything, meaning no upgradability for ram or storage; ridiculous. Please help!- 1 reply

Ok, so I have this dell laptop wich is pretty good at gaming, however I dont have a smooth experience when I edit 1080p videos using lots of effects, filters and 3d animation. Maybe if I upgrade RAM the video timeline gets smoother, or should I try another thing? What do you suggest? (yes I know ryzen is better for video editing or that I should get a beast pc but I only have this laptop to work on) Laptop specs: i5-9300h GTX 1650 2 x 4GB Ram 2666mhz (want to upgrade it) 1TB HDD 128GB SSD Thank you.

Good day everyone, I am seeking your advise on picking the right laptop for me. I will have the main specs mentioned below. Laptop A: Ryzen 7 4800H + GTX 1650 Ti Laptop B: Intel i7-10750H + RTX 2060 everything else is pretty much the same My workflow focuses on mainly Sony Vegas, Lightroom and some occasional weekend gaming (Dota 2, minecraft, looking to expand into some mmorpgs). I may also switch to Adobe Premier and Photoshop in the future. Both laptops are very competitively priced lower than the big name brands and are similar in pricing for me locally (from Malaysia). I would like to know which will suit my workflow better? I am well aware the ryzen beats intel in most benchmarks score, but it seems that intel runs better on programs like Adobe, etc. I mostly work on 1080p videos and am looking to expand into 4K. My priority would be video editing > photoshop/lightroom > gaming. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, I have this rather old acer laptop with an Core i3 350m 2 core and 4 threads in it and 3GB of RAM. And I realized I can't run Davinci Resolve with it since it require high end specs. I was wondering if there's any preferably free video editing software with little to no limitation similar to resolve that could run on my laptop. Thanks in advance

Looking for recommendations of high spec laptops that can chew through 4K footage in premiere. The Razer Blade 15 Base Edition is something I've been looking at. I would love to build a PC but have to be on the move so need a laptop that can handle this. All recommendations appreciated, but looking for something that is fairly portable and not crazy beefy. Coming from a Dell XPS 15 2015 so that size and weight are preferred. Budget preferable under $4K AUD Thanks in advance.

Hey, so at my company we curently have 3 editors working with 4k and 8k footage. And we are expanding to more editors and are running into issus with are current nas setup. We had a local company suggest we get 3 synolagy nas's 2 are hdd base one local and one ofsite and the third server is ssd based. Our internal network is 10gb ethernet running to all our editing machines. Editor machines are: - Imac pro - macbook pro with 10gb adapter - windows 10 desktop 1gb but is gonna change The problem is that we edit directly from the nas wich works fine but when one of the editors starts a render all the editors slow down hard. even the 1gb connection brings down everything. They all want smooth timeline scrubbing. What i was thinking was building a render server and following what linus dit with his workflow. Starting with a ingeststation witch uploads the files to the render server where media encoder wloud transcode them and one copy going to a hdd based server. Then the editors wloud acces a share on the render server en edit on that server. Once done with the porject they wloud send it tought media encoder again on the render server to get the final files. And after that the project wloud be moved to the hdd based server as storage. Next to that we also have writers that wloud work directly on the hdd server. The hdd server wloud be backupt ofsite every weekend. If anyone has some suggestion on what to do best and cloud help me to part together a render server.

I have read it many times and seen in some YouTube videos that if you want to do video editing and gaming both, go with Intel iGPU based processor even if I use discrete GPU like RTX 2060. For example, I told someone that I'm thinking to build Ryzen 5 5600 + RTX 2060 12GB based PC. They said if you want to build it for multipurpose (work + game), go with i5 12400 + RTX 2060 12GB instead as it has iGPU which 5600 (or any similar Ryzen processor) doesn't. I'm not a professional video editor. I do some video editing as a hobby and a little freelancing. I also plan to do basic 3D work in Blender. And other purpose is gaming. I want to go with Ryzen because it is more affordable! So my question is, if I go with Ryzen processor instead of Intel iGPU based processor, will I miss something (or PC would be giving less performance)?

Budget: $10,000-$75,000 USD. The budget range may seem crazy, but we dropped $200K on camera and lighting equipment, so we will spend a bunch if it makes sense, but for all I know $10K is more than enough for us right now, I really have no idea, and that's why I need your help. Country: United States Expected Workloads: (1). 4-8 qty. 4K-6K resolution cameras in Adobe Premiere Pro, (2). 24-64 simultaneous audio tracks in ProTools, (3). Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator, (4). Day-to-day work, including programming Possible Workloads: It would ideally be capable (or be upgradeable) to handle video effects work, composite renders for product marketing, CAD and Visio, color correction, basic programming in VB.Net, C#, C++, HTML, CSS3, JavaScript, etc. These workloads are low priority. It would be nice if it could handle a few AAA games, but that's the lowest priority. Upgrading From: iMac Pro. Desired Form Factor: Rack-mountable and somewhat travel-friendly as it may get moved around frequently in an audio/video production equipment rack Desired Cooling: I need it to be mostly quiet due to the variable audio/video recording/editing environments it may be placed in, but it needs to be balanced between noise, efficiency, performance, and low-maintenance. I'm guessing AIOs or air coolers make the most sense. Other Details: Is it better to just go somewhere like Puget Systems? Would love your guys' recommendations. I would like to get this configured and purchased somewhat quickly. If I'm being unrealistic about anything, please set me straight. I know this might come across as a "dream machine," but I am seriously looking to build or buy this machine soon because I have work to do. I can take criticism, so feel free to roast me for this ridiculous post. I have no preference between Intel or AMD. I want decent upgradability, if possible. Storage: I don't need more than 4TB because I'll want to mostly rely on external storage due to the required mobility for travel. External storage recommendations are welcome. Peripherals: I will want to get at least one 4K monitor that is highly color-accurate and fairly bright, but I don't need 1000 nits sustained HDR editing or anything crazy. Full sRGB coverage, >95% DCI P3 coverage, and decent Adobe RGB coverage would all be nice. Any recommendations welcome.

Budget (including currency): Around $2000-$3000 Country: U.S. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General daily use, video editing/effects (1080 or 4k), graphic design (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), small-scale 3D work and light gaming on occasion Hello! I am currently searching for parts to build a PC for myself after years of slow hand-me-downs and loud-fanned laptops. I do graphic design and have been interested in making graphics-heavy video content as well, so I've been researching and workshopping a build for a few weeks after learning at least a decent amount on how the process works, what parts I'd need for my goals, and what combination might make the best finished product. Given that I am completely new to the scene I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions so I know if I am getting it right, or spending far too much: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/J8y2bK The only thing I haven't yet taken into account are separate case fans and I don't really care about RGB or any visual modifications, just performance. As for keyboard and mouse, I am planning on using my old inexpensive ones I have on hand for now. Hopefully things all turn out well, thanks for your help!

Other details (Here is what I got so far https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ddNBGL, I know it's pretty expensive but I have the money and want to start getting the parts soon. I'm going to have two monitors and 1440p. One is going to have a refresh rate of 60Hz but have better color accuracy for color grading and photo editing. The other will be running at 240Hz and will be used for recording game play. This is my first build, so I would like a second opinion on the parts before I start buying them.
