-----> I'm having a problem deciding whether a 295x2 graphics card or two gtx 970 graphics cards in sli configuration offer the most preformance (in terms of price) on a broad range of games from 4k resolution to any resolution. Things to think about: Both options are in the same price range as a single gtx 970 costs around $350, so that makes it $700 dollars, while a amd 295x2 has been lowered to around $750 dollars From what I've researched both solutions seem to be neck and neck with each other in terms of preformance, but for me its still to hard to see which one is better overall. Both the 295x2 and gtx 970 sli require a substantial amount of watts. In youtube videos comparing the two cards people seem to forget that the 295x2 is capible of using mantle in game. Using the 970 sli requires you to have another pci slot on your motherboard and enough space in your case while the 295x2 requires you to have an extra 120mm fan/radiator mount in your case. Both the 295x2 and gtx 970 put out the same temperatures with a 295x2 at around 65 celsius and gtx 970 at 60 celsius. 295x2 uses an exotic cooling method such as water cooling, and you will have to find space for tubing management. How does sli vs crossfire scale in different games? Is paying $50 more for an 295x2 worth it? Will the prices keep going down for the 295x2? Gtx 970 is a newer card compared to the 295x2 and might offer some better/new features. What were both the gtx 970 and 295x2 made for? Prices for the Gtx 970 wont be changing any time soon. Does mantle really matter? Will it be further used in the future? The most important thing that matters about graphics cards is how they will handle games and such in the future: are the 295x2 and 970 ready for new technology? Here are some links to both graphics cards: Gtx 970 AMD 295x2 Other thoughts: If you have some insight you'd like to share please comment on this topic. Also, try to keep things reasonable and show some respect. If you'd like to comment on any errors I made in my typing please correct me or any facts I've misstated. If you'd like to add on to things to think about, please go nuts. Cheers - Adepted K

Hi again great forum dwellers of LTT. I recently sold a system to a customer who got back to me about purchasing a system for his little brother - I have a GTX 470 on-hand and I was curious if a 500W EVGA 80+ Vanilla can handle the G3258 (OC'd to 4.2 GHz @ 1.250 VCore) and the Fermi card without cutting it too close. The system has 4x 120mm fans for cooling as well as a Hyper TX3 CPU cooler. Any information would be awesome, or past experiences with GTX 470 + G3258 pairings would be even better! Thanks, and have happy holidays.

Hey guys, first of all I let my ring specs here: Motherboard: 990FXA-UD3 GPU: SAPPHIRE TRI-X R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC (UEFI) ---> GPU BIOS Version: 015.046.000.016.000000 ---> Driver Version: Catalyst 14.12 AMD Catalyst OMEGA SOF PSU: Seasonic X-Series 850W 80+ Gold RAM: 8GB Kingston Hyper-X Fury 1866 Mhz - DDR3 Processor: AMD FX 8350 4.0Ghz Black Edition My problem it's about the processor frequency and fan speed (I think that's the problem, I'm not so sure). When I start a game (BF4 for example) the CPU cooler starts running pretty fast, and its very noisy. I have the crappy AMD fan that comes with the CPU, but it's on perfect conditions (I bought the CPU around 7 months ago, I'm getting a Corsair H80i soon though). Anyways, after a couple of minutes playing, like 15 or so, the game starts to do some really short and fast freezing screens (not continuously, but it's annoying). Ok, now the thing it`s that the processor does the same with undemanding games, like League of Legends, with the difference that the freezing screens are not present, just the crazy CPU behaving, BUT 2 days ago, when I was still using my VERY OLD card (GTS 250, yes I know....) this didn't happened and the CPU used to work normally when I get into LoL or CoD. The issue starts since I get the new card (R9 280x Tri-x). Another thing that happened to me (just twice), it's that the screen went all white for a very short period of time (0.001 of a sec), then the game kept running. At the beginning I thought it would be this problem about artifacts which I've been reading , but for now, I don't believe the issue it's because of the GPU, and I't doesnt look like artifacts. I believe a bottleneck could be happening? Maybe something with the RAM frequency? Perhaps I shouls check the mobo's BIOS? Or maybe it's just about bad air flow? For now I have the side of the case open. I'm really no expert in matters of frequencies, voltages and that kind of things, and this is my first decent PC. This really disturbs me, this crazy fan that sounds like a F18 and those annoying freezing screens while gaming, I'm about to throw a grenade into the case. Please, if someone know a posible solution for this, I would love to know and I would really appreciate it. I'm worried that I could be damaging the system somehow. Thank you to anyone that takes the time to read this, and sorry if my english isn't good.

EDIT: We're making some good progress, please read the convos below to see the progress we're making (Just squashing some "bugs") ------------------------------------------ Hello; I've recently installed this video card as well as a new PSU and read online because of it's "awesome construction", it has a lot of "safe" overclocking leeway. Here is all the info on the card: GIGABYTE GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125684&cm_re=gtx_970-_-14-125-684-_-Product It came with a program that launches at startup, "Gigabyte OC Guru"; Any profiles, or settings that you guys found stable would be appreciated! Thank you!

I need to upgrade my case and my gpu, as much as I love my case I want a bigger one so I can finagle in it. I'm currently using a Coolermaster HAF XM, and my gpu is a ATI Radeon HD 4550 512mb (not so great). The case I'm eyeing is the Coolermaster HAF Stacker, and looking at the new cards (900 series and r9 stuff) and they are a tad out of my price range. For the case I'm willing to spend $100~ and on the gpu I'm looking at getting something along the price range of a 750ti or 660. Any other recommendations on the gpu would be great cause I don't know much about them other than mine sucks major ass. Any help is appreciated, and sorry the formatting of this post is a tad off.

I want to purchase a 970 but I really don't know which after market brand to purchase. I know Linus did a 780 series variety video with the different aftermarket cards, but I want one of these new shiny gpus in my rig. I'm thinking either the MSI OC model, the Asus SRIX model, or the Gigabyte Windforce x3 model. Advice, experience, comments, criticism(?) anyone? Edit: To add some info, I am a newly born Gigabyte fan after choosing my Gigabyte z97x Gaming 5 over an Asus Z97 board. My color scheme and mobo is Black/red so the Asus card would look great, but I've heard amazing things about the Windforce. Plus, I'm not looking to OC much or not at all even. I'm running a PNY GTX 760 Enthusiast (stock OC to 1110 Mhz, turbo to 1288 Mhz) and it runs a bit hot at 75 max. Gigabyte must have the best cooling. Plus I'd be running it in my NZXT H440 which has tons of dampening foam. As long as it's not like a jet engine.

Do I need a big motherboard if I'm going to buy a big video card? I have like an A55-E33 Micro-ATX (22.6 cm x 17.3 cm) motherboard and I'm planning to buy a 260x129x38mm R9 270X GPU. I'm afraid that the card might block the SATA ports on the board. Thanks and sorry for the noob question.

In a Cyber Monday deal, I've found an 'XFX Double Dissipation R9-290A-EDFD Radeon R9 290 4GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card'. Is this worth a purchase for £152? I've got enough money for a £600 build and was originally gonna use a GTX 760 or R9 270x. Not too sure if XFX is a good brand, and I've heard people complaining that it's very big so I worry a little if my original pick for a case, the FD R2 Mini, would be alright. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Building a computer that will mainly be used for Solidworks. Basically just a CAD machine. I'm okay with the price with what I have, but if there are any cheaper alternatives to any parts that'd be great. I don't know too much about computer hardware, and I compiled this part list with the help of a few friends who are pretty hardware-savvy. Before I buy everything, I would like some advice on everything. Here's the link. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9bd6mG

Hello, I currently have a computer in a 900D with 32 gigs of gskill 2666 ram, Rampage IV black edition, i7 4930k, and a Asus ROG Matrix R9 280x Platinum, so I was Wondering if I should buy another r9 280x matrix or to sell the one I have and buy something new. (My friend has a r9 280x Matrix plat which he is willing to sell me for $240). I play all kinds of games, anything from skyrim, to Minecraft to Crisis to Run escape to far cry, I heavy mod games such as skyrim, fallout, etc.. And I would to like get more frame rate and smoother gameplay. Oh yeah, I have the Asus dog Swift monitor ( 2560 x 1440, 1ms response time, 144 GHz). For example on skyrim my frame rate is between 35 - 60 FPS, and i get some screen tearing when i am below 50 fps...

I posted a similar topic a couple days ago, but got really garbled results and want to get a more clear answer. What 970 aftermarket is the best? Asus Strix 970: Solid overclockability Quietest Best Looking (IMO) MSI: Big fans .... G1: Best Cooling Fastest out of box clock speeds Best Backplate Blue LED (This is the only thing keeping me from getting the G1. My case is all black and red, and it would look terrible) Who has gotten one and has positive info to share on it?

Hello guys i just want to ask which card should i get GTX 970 or GTX 980 im streamers so i need best preformance

First of all, my PC: CPU - Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield Quad-Core 3.2GHz GPU - EVGA GTX 680 FTW+ 4GB Memory - 6GB CORSAIR DOMINATOR Motherboard - ASUS P6X58D-E Power - Antec High Current Pro HCP-1200 1200W My issue: Not too long ago I began to experience a rather weird issue with my PC. While playing games, at seemingly random times, the computer just simply crashes (screen goes black, audio can still be heard for a few seconds) and restarts with no warning. It has only happened when running, what I would assume to be, the more intensive games, such as Skyrim. It also happened (multiple times) while playing the Evolve Alpha. Like previously stated, it seems to happen at random, sometimes after 30 minutes of playing, and sometimes after 10. I can also say, that it appears as though it is happening quicker; meaning, less time between game launch and crash. Now, that isn't really much to go on, so I'll try to dump some more info: While playing skyrim, the video card is running at 90+ percent, and the temps hover around 70-80 degrees C. (I have a custom fan curve) The crash happens at random. When the crash happens, right before the computer begins to reboot, the video card fan really kicks in (gets really loud). I have had this exact computer for 2 years now. ~4 years if you do not count the video card. I keep my PC relatively clean. I remove dust build up every month or two. I have taken apart the video card and gave it a good clean (it wasn't particularly dusty) CPU temps and usage seems fine. Things that crossed my mind: Video card overheating... Low RAM? (computer idles at 1.8GB out of 6) What could be causing this? I am open to any suggestions. Thank you. Latest update (11/19/14) This is a little late for this particular thread, but it might help anyone that might be experiencing similar issues, and stumbles upon this. I ended up doing what learjet60guy suggested, although I didn't actually notice his post until now. Since my PSU has multiple rails, I thought it would be worth trying to plug the video card into a different one. I took two, completely new, PCIe leads, and plugged them into the v7 and v8 outputs. It has been 3 days with no crash. I can not confirm that this outright fix the problem, but prior to swapping the rails, the crashing got to a point where it was happening after a mere 5 minutes of gameplay. So it definitely did something.

I debated whether to post this here or in the build planning section but I decided this would be a more fitting place to ask this. (If my decision was incorrect please let me know) I am currently planning a build but this is simply a question about a motherboard I am debating. I would like to use the Asus Rampage V Extreme but I am seeing reviews saying that the first PCIe slot is super tight for a video card. Can anyone confirm or deny this? This board truly fits what I am going for but I do not want to purchase something that won't fit a card in that slot. I have the Asus GTX 980 STRIX currently picked out. But the question still stands. Does the Asus Rampage V Extreme have enough room to comfortably fit a video card such as the one above in the first PCIe slot? Regards, Longbow

Hey guys, So I'm looking to upgrade my video card, and at the moment I'm running a dual monitor setup both 1920 x 1080 monitors. However I was looking to get another one which is 2560 x 1080, I want to run all three of them but only game on the 2560 x 1080 monitor, the rest of the time it will be used for web design and Photoshop work. My budget for the card is under $400 (but I do live in Australia), and I was looking at an R9 280 at the moment, but I'm not sure if it will be able to support it. So any recommendation would be great. Thanks for your help.
