I'm not a computer expert. I was reading a review of the Lenovo ThinkStation P300 Tower Workstation. The configuration reviewed was, in part: Intel Xeon E3-1276 v3 [4 Cores, 8 Threads, 3.6 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo)] NVIDIA Quadro K4000 3GB [768 CUDA Cores, 810 MHz core, 192-bit] In the review, there is a picture of the rear of the tower. You can see on the left-hand side, about half way down, that there is a VGA port and 2 DisplayPorts. Further down the tower (in a card slot), there is a DVI-D port plus 2 additional DisplayPorts. I think that the VGA and the upper 2 DisplayPorts are due to the graphics integrated into the processor; the Intel Xeon E3-1276 v3 has integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphics P4600), as this page states. In contrast, I think that the DVI-D port and 2 additional DisplayPorts are due to the NVIDIA Quadro K4000 graphics card. So in some ways, is it accurate to say that the particular configuration in the review has two graphics adaptors: the processor's integrated graphics and the NVIDIA Quadro K4000 graphics card? My question is, since there seems to be this sort of "redundancy" in graphics (although not really, since the Quadro is probably more capable than the processor's integrated graphics), which graphics adaptor will Windows use when it boots? If I had this system, wouldn't I want to somehow disable the processor's integrated graphics, since I would probably want to only use the Quadro? It is possible to configure the Lenovo ThinkStation P300 with a Xeon processor that does NOT contain integrated graphics. For example, the Xeon E3-1241 v3 that Lenovo offers with this system does not contain integrated graphics, as far as I can tell. So another question I have is, if I were to purchase the system with the Xeon (which doesn't have integrated graphics), am I correct in assuming that the VGA port and the top 2 DisplayPorts would NOT be there? In that situation, I would have to convert either DVI-D or DisplayPort to VGA if I insisted on connecting the system to a VGA monitor, right? Thanks so much for your time.

Hi Forum, So I'm looking at getting a PS4 by more or less hocking all my 360 stuff, first gen xbox stuff and probably ps2 hardware an select tittles. The crux is, my tv and my monitors don't have HDMI and if the above works.. there is very little chance I'd have enough towards something with HDMI I'm looking for what might be the best conversion option, for the lowest cost. my 3 Samsung SyncMaster 215tw have DVI Dual link, Component (RGB), and VGA. They are 1680 by 1050 native and run at 60Hz I'm aware that there are direct HDMI to DVI-D cables but most don't offer RCA sound jacks. I do plan to use the Optical out put for sound.. assuming my friend ever sends me the headset he said he was gonna lol. As such the RCA sound is more for redundancy/backup. It would be nice to keep the signal digital, but all my monitors are using the DVID jack, I've tried searching for a switch or splitter but not sure if the PS4's standby/sleep mode continues to put out a signal. If that option isn't viable then would Component or VGA be the next best thing? And how might I go about converting to such. Thanks for your time. ~Umi

Can unplugging the VGA while on the desktop damage the computer? After the unplug Windows froze, I plugged the cable back in, hard reset computer and now I get nothing after trying to turn it back on. -There's no BIO screen and doesn't detect the display -It doesn't boot into windows either (by the fact that there's no hard drive activity) -The VGA is plugged directly into motherboard and uses on board graphics Any suggestions on what the problem is and any potential fixes? Thanks in Advance!

My computer froze on the desktop after the VGA was unplugged and now after a hard reset it doesn't detect the monitor and there's no bios screen anymore. Can unplugging a VGA cable while the computer is on damage the computer? -I've tried unplugging and replugging both VGA and power connectors -It doesn't boot into windows either (I can tell because there's no hard drive activity). Any suggestions on potential problems and fixes? Thanks in advance.

Okay, so I picked up a monitor off someone, and it only has VGA (oddly). It's an acer, and a decent 16:9 monotor. About 19". But I needed something to replace an old 4:3 15" (the only monitor I had around). I have a GTX 260 in my PC, and it only has 2 DVI slots, but the motherboard has a VGA slot. I tried plugging the VGA into the monitor and it didn't get a signal, so I went in the BIOS and switched my display to the onboard VGA instead of the GPU, and now it works fine. Problem is, now it's using the crummy intel chipset on the motherboard, and I can't load a single game. Isn't there a way to use the VGA on the motherboard to display the screen, but still use the GPU as the graphics driver for games? I'm aware of converter cables and such, and I can buy one, but it'll take a few weeks to get here from Amazon. No local computer stores around here unfortunately. So I'm frusterated, and just want to play my games. Any ideas at all?

I'm trying to update my Gigabyte GTX 780oc 3gb bios. As it's refusing to support any Nvidea drivers. I'm using Nvflash through the CMD. This is what i'm doing. Once i'm in the right directory "C:\nvflash" I type "nvflash --protectoff" (I don't know why, a guide told to do so) After that this is what shows After that i type "nvflash -6 GTX780.rom" (GTX780,rom) being the name of the bios file im trying to flash. However this is what i get - I am most certainly sure that i have the correct bios for my card, I read up that you can bypass the Error "board id mismatch" by using "overridesub" or something like that. So what am i doing wrong?
-
I am trying to update my GPU drivers as i really wont to rule out that the problem with the graphics card is the bios. I have the latest version of Nvflash and i have my bios for my Gigabyte 780. I created a folder in C:\ called nvflash with the bios.rom. I opened the CMD with admin and typed "cd C:\nvflash" after i am in the directory I type nvflash "the name of the bios file.rom" It then comes up with "ERROR: Board ID mismatch. I know there is a command that bypasses this. I think it is "overridesub 6" however it doesn't work. I am most certain i have the right Bios so i don't think that is the problem either. I will attach a picture of the CMD.

Hi all! Looking forward to upgrading my currently rig for better perfomance in davinci resolve and premiere, and wondering if the GTX980 (4 GB) would be enough for my usage? Main editing in premiere pro (fluid without effects even right now can struggle with a few effects however) grading in davinci, but i might switch to davinci only when 12 comes out. My current rig: GA-P67X-UD3-B3 i7 2600K @ 4.0 GHZ 24 GB RAM ASUS GTX 660 2 GB OC (with 3 monitors) CORSAIR 600CXV2EU (3 ssds and 3 hdds) Thanks for your help, sen

Hi everyone not sure if you're going to see this,but... My name is Erick and I'm from Brazil. I've been following linustechtips on youtube for a while and it helps me a lot, specially the game fps tests and Benchmarks videos. Great job... Thanks for that! This is a feedback/request post. I really belive you should make a video explaining in details WHAT MAKES A GRAPHIC CARD BETTER THAN ANOTHER... since some of your work is to review and test these cards, people out there don't really understant, for instance, why a r7 240 4GB sucks compared to a r7 260x with "only" 2GB in BF4 1900x1080 medium settings. I still have unsolved issues in some subjects and I strongly belive that a more detailed, explanatory video or series of videos, would save time/energy to those who, like me can't find much reliable information particularly in my native language (unfortunately most of the informations we got are from dubios sources like game foruns and things like that). I'm not a video maker but I guess it must be insanely hard to writing, editing, recording, time consuming and all the process of making such a thing, but this is firstly a request and secondly an idea of something really helpfull to your subscribers. Thanks again guys. p.s.¹ I'm sorry about the english mistakes (I don't have many chances to practice english where I live). p.s.² if it's not possible to make it happend, I would appreciate suggestions on any material, book, article that could lead me to a solid concept.

Hey, I'm probably going to get hate for this but I'm building my first PC and I have a VGA only monitor at the moment. The GPU I wanted (Nvidia GeForce 970) doesn't have this port (probably for a good reason) but as a temporary solution, could I convert one of them to a VGA with an adapter?

Im currently running a sapphire hd 4890 Gpu in my system with an AMD Fx 6100 CPU, 4gb DDR3 ram, and I have dual monitor display, but just researched and found out that although there are more outputs on my video card, apparently the card does not support 3 monitors for display. The card has an hdmi and vga monitor currently connected with a dvi monitor connected but not running because of the support issue. It also has a "display port" output. Do i need another video card to achieve the 3 monitors? If so, should it/can it be another sapphire hd 4890 or can it be something different? Please help me figure out how to go about getting the right card. Otherwise, is there a way to use more than 2 of the cards 4 outputs at a time? Your help is appreciated

Im currently running a sapphire vapor x hd 4890 with hdmi and vga outputs to my two monitors. I recently found out that, although there are 4 video outputs on the video card (hdmi, vga, dvi, and display port) the card apparently only sports 2 monitors at a time. I've never tried using the display port output but i was told that the card might support output on two of the other three, plus display port all at once. Is this true? Can I run three monitors from my card using two of the hdmi, vga or dvi outputs plus display port?

My friend Skyped me and said his other monitor wasn't working. It's recognized by Windows, but the display shows that there is no input.

To make a long story short I got exactly what i wanted for christmas, my parents ( who know nothing about computers ) got me a 22 inch LED monitor from AOC, i was super excited until i found out the thing only has a VGA connection, thats right, no HDMI, no DVI, returning it is not an option since they bought it a few months back and to be honest I could never tell them. What can i do? should i try to sell it and buy a new monitor? or if I keep it how could I get the best image quality posible, im using a vga to dvi adapter. And i only plan on playing at 1080p.

Hey, I'm having trouble connecting my PC to my tv so I can have dual monitors. I currently have my primary screen connected with a DVI-D cable. I have connected the VGA cable from the VGA output on my computer to the VGA input on my TV and I have also changed the source to VGA/PC but all I am seeing is "No Signal Through PC" Extra information: PC Specs: Intel Core i5-4670 3.40GHz 8.00 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2GB SDRAM 1 TB HDD DDR3 SDRAM Windows 7 Edition Home Premium Please ask for any additional details

Hello all, I have big doubt that would appreciate some help with. I currently have 3x 22 inch 1080 lcd monitors. The downside of these monitors is that they only have a VGA connection. I am planing to buy a gaming rig with an Nvidia GTX970. http://us.msi.com/product/vga/GTX-970-GAMING-4G.html#hero-overview So the card comes with: 》1xDVI-I port (can be adapt to VGA). 》1xHDMI port (can be adapt to VGA). 》1xDisplayPort (can be adapt to VGA). 》1xDVI-D (cannot be adapt to VGA). Their website says that supports a maximum of 4 monitors. Does anybody know for sure if with this setup I will be able to play "surroud gaming" @ 1080? Or maybe if I will definitely not be able. Thanks a lot...

So, after upgrading to Windows 8.1 I have encountered one or two issues. Most of which have been resolved, but one still stands. I had originally had issues setting up the second monitor I had with Windows 7. But earlier today I fixed this by using an HDMI cable, rather than DVI to VGA. My primary monitor is 1440x900, and my second monitor is a TV with a resolution of 1080i. My graphics card is a Gainward GTX 670. My problem is that my second monitor is fuzzy and is difficult to read text on, also that things such as the tabs at the top of Chrome are not visible and appear to 'hang' off the top of the screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So i got another monitor for my setup and it is exactly the same as my current monitor. I got it so i could do an extended screen setup. My gpu has 1 hdmi, 1 dvi and 2 mini display ports. The monitors have an input for hdmi and an input for vga. The main monitor is connected via hdmi and there are no problems with that. The second monitor uses a dvi to vga adapter on my gpu and then a vga cord that runs from the adapter to the second monitor. I setup the extended screen and I dont have the option to use 1920x1080p on the second monitor so it looks really weird especially beside the main monitor which is crystal clear. I dont know if this is happening because my gpu is too weak or what but i really just need some help because i need this to work better. My setup: case: fractal define r4 ram: hyperx kingston 8g Storage: 1tb seagate psu: evga supernova 750B2 GPU: HIS IceQ R9 280X CPU: i7 4790k Any ideas are welcome! Thanks

My graphics card (Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X) only has a DVI-D port, so bought a VGA (female) to DVI-D adapter to hook it up to my (now rather old) HP w19b monitor. Plugged all the cables in, but my monitor does not recognise the PC and just displays a blank screen. Anyone know what may be causing this, and what I can do to solve this issue? I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit on a Gigabyte GA-Z97-UD3H mobo (monitor works fine when plugged into the mobo's VGA output) with an Intel i5 4690k. This is my first PC build and I'm dying to see the full potential of my graphics card in action (using the Intel integrated graphics for the time being ), so I really appreciate the help! Ciao from Italy

Hello guys, I recently made a setup for recording my Xbox 360 with my Avermedia LGP capture card (linus did a review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL3MUZFeRFo ) , and my problem is that I can't listen to my game audio, since I'm playing on a PC monitor, using an HDMI to DVI adapter. My goal here is to not waste any time or money ordering some xbox 360 dongle that I might not use that often, so I can use my headphones while recording gameplay. SETUP : 1. Xbox 360 plugged into the LGP, and using the HDMI passthrough to my monitor, using the HDMI to DVI adapter I have. 2. Recording PC connected by VGA to the same monitor (I know it's crappy but deal with it). 3. Using Avermedia's software for recording Parts and dongles I have that may be useful: Xbox 360 AV to VGA and composite audio (red and white) Composite audio (red and white) to 3.5 mm in Another HDMI to DVI adapter Display port to HDMI HDMI splitter HyperX Cloud II Pro Headset (both 3.5 and USB sound card are working with that) multiple HDMI cables (3, but I can grab another one if needed) The Avermedia LGP does have a 3.5 mm audio passthrough (can be used for mic or game audio, but the mic is not an issue). If you need more info just ask. I'm grateful for any help you may provide.
