  1. Does anyone have experience using the ZTE Axon 7 on a CDMA network, mainly Verizon? These are the frequencies ZTE claims it supports on its site: GSM/EDGE:B2/3/5/8CDMA BC0/1/10UMTS/HSPA: B2/B5/B4/B1/B8LTE: B2/B4/B5/B12/B13/B17/B7/B3/B1/B20/B29/B30/B25/B26/B412CA: B2+B4, B2/4+B12, B2/4+B29, B2/4+B5, B41+B41, B25+B25 After looking at Verizon's bands, this phone should be perfectly capable. However, I haven't been able to find a straight answer yet. Thanks for any help.
  2. I've done a little research on rooting my phone I've never done it before but every guide I come across is not compatible with my phone. I have the Galaxy s6 SM-G920V the build number is G920VVRU4CPF4 running on 6.0.1 android version whenever I look up a guide either the build isn't supported or the model number isnt supported if it's possible that would be amazing I hate having a clunky phone/crapware/os
  3. News link http://www.lawyerherald.com/articles/37832/20160308/verizon-rolls-out-android-6-0-1-marshmallow-update-samsung.htm
  4. This pains me so much. But soon I'll be moving, and with that, comes a new ISP. I currently have RCN, and I'm relishing every last second I have. I pay $53/mo for 110 Down / 15 Up, no service fees, no mandatory equipment rentals, no rate increases, nothing. Same price, always. Consistent service. No bandwidth caps. Reliable internet. I'm aware that all of this is about to change. The two companies servicing my new location are Verizon and Comcast (Satan and Lucifer, it seems). Comcast being the more affordable (on the surface) of the two. I need opinions, I need stories, I need to know how to put up with the BS that I KNOW is in my future. Should I pay for a VPN? Does Comcast really have disgusting bandwidth caps? Are there hidden fees? Do I have to go to war to use my own equipment? What's the best value compatible modem (DOCSIS or whatever the fuck). I'm a computer guy, but by no means a networking/ISP guy. I need teh knowledge pls. Halp.
  5. I have a Galaxy Nexus i515 (Verizon LTE version) running 4.2.2. I rooted it but forgot to make a system backup and didn't install any special recoveries. Once I was rooted, I installed SoftkeyZ (an app that can change the look of the android soft keys). After a few days, I rebooted my phone for whatever reason and the soft keys disappeared altogether. Reinstalling the app did nothing, rebooting the phone did nothing, factory resetting did nothing. I've been trying to find a way to completely unroot and flash the stock OS, but for whatever reason Odin won't recognize my phone when its in recovery mode and I can't figure out how to do anything. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
  6. Hey peeps at LinusTechTips, I recently planned to move and I need new options for my internet services right now. I reside in New York City and I currently use Optimum Ultra50 for ~65. I understand that this price is pretty bad for just internet but I was going to move soon so I had no other options. I am currently looking into Verizon Fios DoublePlay for 50 as I dont require the free sports channnels and what not of Verizon TriplePlay. Although the TriplePlay is $65 and is 100 mbps upload/download I believe 50 mbps is enough? Also if anyone knows, can he/she tell me about the pricing regarding Verizon equipment fee's? Am i required to buy the box for $150 or rent it for $10? Or is it free if i sign contract/free if i sign up etc. Thanks.
  7. I'm thinking of factory resetting my Verizon Galaxy S5 to try to remedy some performance issues and I can't figure out if my text message history is stored on my phone or on Verizon's cloud. I'd rather not lose it. If anyone knows where it's stored and if it is stored on my device, how to restore it once I reset that would be great.
  8. I have broken my HTC One m8 with verizon's own repair tool and they will not cover my phone because I have attempted and semi rooted my phone which voided the warranty. My last OS was android marshmallow and my bootloader has s-on and says official because i factory reset it a bunch of times but it still won't work. When i attempt to boot into android, it only goes to the static htc logo without the one animation or verizon animation. Please suggest anything that can help as it may work.
  9. Disclaimer: I am a long-time BlackBerry user, since 2006 or so (see pic below). This is my first smartphone that is not a BBOS. I have some experience with Android, I have it dual-booting on my HP TouchPad (I also seem to have a penchant for doomed/failed tech devices) though I rarely use it. I've only spent about 24 hours with the Priv so far now, I will update after a week or so. Apologies for the mediocre photography, I don't have great lighting indoors, and outside is covered in pollen. The pics may get updated, and I'll add pics taken with the Priv later as well. The BlackBerry Priv. A lot of yall probably didn't even know BlackBerry was still in the hardware business, and by their last several years of smartphone releases, it seems like they themselves didn't know they were in the hardware business. Finally, BlackBerry have released a device that can keep up with the rest of the pack. Currently the Priv is running Android Lollipop, but Marshmallow should be coming end of April/early March. Before I get into the details, specs: SPECS: Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 (msm8892) Dimensions: Height - 147mm/5.79in (184mm/7.24in open); Width - 77.2mm/3.04in; Thickness - 9.4mm/0.37 Weight: 6.77oz Screen: 5.43in, 2560x1440, 540PPI, Corning Gorilla Glass 4 Battery: 3410mAh (non-removable) OS: Android Lollipop Storage: 32GB on-board, up to 2TB microSD card support Camera: Schneider-Kreuznach certified, f2.2, 18MP rear; 2MP fixed-focus, f2.8 front HARDWARE: The single most identifiable part of any BlackBerry smartphone is the keyboard. It's what has kept me with the brand for as long as I have. The slide-out keyboard on the Priv is an adjustment, like anytime I got a new BlackBerry, but the fact it's crammed into a slider that looks no bigger than a typical Android slab is quite frankly a bit mind boggling. The thinness of the keyboard part when it is open at first felt a little concerning, but it strangely feels more secure when you're typing and all 7.24 inches are extended (hehe). They have added the touch-sensitivity to the keyboard, making the whole thing a giant trackpad; great for scrolling without putting a hand on the screen, selecting text, etc. The slider mechanism is very smooth with enough resistance opening and closing that accidental movements shouldn't open/close it. I am interested to see how well it holds up after the summer, as I live at the beach and there will be a lot of sand in/around it. Two hands are almost required to handle the device when fully opened; I say almost because it's really quite balanced and if you're using the keyboard for scrolling, your thumb presses it into your hand, making it feel more secure. Aside from the keyboard, the rest of the device feels great in the hand. The screen is a curved affair, which aside from looking pretty, has a few additional functionalities. When charging, one edge will show the battery status. There is a 'peek' option, where you can swipe in from the edge and show you some basic info from your calendar, Hub (more on that later), tasks or contacts. The peek function has all sorts of customization (or you can get rid of it completely) and is pretty handy. I'm sure there may be more features utilizing the edge, but that's all I've found so far. The speaker is on the 'chin' of the device. It gets quite loud, but I rarely use speakerphone or the phone as a music player itself (usually use external speakers) so it really doesn't matter much to me. The buttons have a nice click, though the feel for the volume up, down and middle play/pause button on the right side could have more definition. They kind of all feel the same, even though the middle one is substantially smaller. The power/lock button is on the left side and flatter than its partners on the right side, but I have no problems locking/unlocking the device. The top of the device has the microSD slot and the SIM card slot. They are separate from each other and the Priv does come with a tool to remove them. On the bottom is the microUSB port and the headphone jack. This is probably my least favorite side of the Priv. One, why they didn't go with USB type-C is beyond me. Two, I hate headphone jacks on the bottom of devices. The back is a similar glass-weave material to the Q10 and other BB10 devices, with a matte, almost satin-y feel that is quite slip-proof. The camera does protrude from the back, but the lens itself does seem to be recessed from the lip of the 'bump,' which seems to bode well for those concerned with scratched lenses. I usually keep my phone screen-side down when on a table anyways, so this isn't a big deal for me. There is also a dual color LED flash, how well that works is to be decided. Side thickness comparison between Priv (left) and Q10 (right), and you can see the camera bump SOFTWARE: ***This is where things get a little dicey for me. For one, I don't know what a 'vanilla' Android experience really should be, and I also don't have a lot of Android experience at all. Some of the gripes may be with Android and how it works, and some may be BlackBerry's changes; since I have nothing to compare it to, please correct me where I'm wrong.*** As far as I can tell, it seems like a pretty stock Android device. BlackBerry has added some features, like the aforementioned 'peek' but the big one for me is the Hub. That was my favorite part of BB10; it integrated all of your notifications (SMS, email, calendar, facebook, twitter, any app with notifications really) into one place and made dealing with notifications insanely easy. It still sort of exists on the Priv, though it definitely leaves a lot to be desired. You can quick-launch it by swiping up and right (similar to how you accessed it on BB10) and there your SMS, email and certain other apps will have their notifications. The biggest gripe I have now though is I can't set custom LED colors, vibrate patterns or sounds for specific accounts. On my Q10 I had SMS as a certain vibrate pattern, ringtone and LED color, then a different pattern for each of my email accounts. I could either feel or look at my phone and tell what the notification was. The 'priority' contacts and messages is gone in the Hub, which I really liked in BB10. I do like the customization options for the swipes on messages. I have it setup to swipe left and delete (you can still select on device or on device and server thank god) and swipe right to mark as read. Another BlackBerry tweak is the way they implement widgets. Any app that has a widget will show up with three dots below the icon. You can swipe up or down and, on first launch, will give you the app's widget options; afterwards it will open to that specific widget when you swipe up/down on the app icon. Kind of cool, but pretty much useless; I disabled them on all the apps aside from VLC and the Calendar. The Notification drawer works fine, I don't have any issues with it, but it's nothing that crazy. I do like the access to the wifi, flashlight, etc settings. They've kept the two-finger-swipe-from-the-top gesture from BB10 to open up the quick settings which is great. I'll probably have more to add here over the next few days. Final Thoughts: So after a day with the Priv, I'm really liking it. It's massive compared to my Q10, and that is taking some getting used to. While I could sideload Android APK's onto my Q10, it's nice to finally have a 'real' app marketplace. The only real problems I'm having is just adjusting to Android. The stock photos app is pretty terrible, there was no stock file browser and EVERYTHING wants to sync and talk to the cloud. Battery life has been great so far, since I took it off the charger around 4pm yesterday, I'm now at 48%. It did seem to warm up a bit while charging, but it may have also been due to the fact I was updating/downloading a lot of apps. If you're in the market for a new Android device, I would definitely give it a look. Don't let a bad experience with a Storm, Torch or other older BlackBerry cloud your judgement. Pick one up and try it out; especially if you're missing that physical keyboard. I'm sure there's some stuff I've missed, and I will be coming back to update after a week or so. If anyone has specific questions (or some solutions to some of my problems) about the Priv, fire away.
  10. I've been considering trying to get an Exynos 8890 Galaxy S7 instead of the standard US Snapdragon 820 variant but I want to know if it'll work completely on Verizon's network. (for those wondering I want the Exynos version because it's reported to have better battery life and performance as well as maybe having the bootloader unlocked.)
  11. If I were to buy a Galaxy S7 Edge outright would I be able to put a Verizon 4G LTE prepaid sim in it?
  12. I'm currently a not-so-proud owner of the Verizon variant LG G4, since early June of 2015. Sadly to say, I'm hating it. I'm not willing to download silly ram-clearing apps. It's as if I'm obligated to wipe the phone every few months to retain it's glorious processing speeds. I'm well aware of Huawei's new Nexus 6p and have personally seen the device work on Verizon (USA) in my town. Although I am on the Edge program (allowing you to return your phone for a brand-spanking new one, one year from it's purchase date), I've decided that I want to put this phone away in a box, since I occasionally travel overseas, and buy a new unlocked phone that supports Verizon's network radio band channel... things. After a few days of searching, still the only phone I could find was the Nexus 6p. I believe it's undoubtedly an amazing device, but I'm not too interested in its price tag. I've created a new account (because after two days I've yet to receive the password reset for my old account) to ask you guys for help on this issue. I need help finding a newer phone, like Oppo or OnePlus brands that are very capable of supporting Verizon networks. Thank you!
  13. Looking for smartphone recommendations. Has to be usable on Verizon Preferably under $300 Don't want a giant screen If android, preferably getting marshmallow eventually 1080p is plenty, even less is probably fine Don't need a ton of performance Being able to last a couple days or more would be cool I've never owned an apple device other than an old ipod classic that I put rockbox on anyway I have a remix os (android 5.0 basically) tablet.
  14. Hello all, Looking to purchase a new Router for my Apartment and I have a good amount of devices that hook up to the wifi or the lane line but I don't know too much about what the best Router is at the moment, so what is the most stable and consistent router for are 15 to 20 devices including 2 gaming PC's? Looking for the best solution, Also I have Verizon Fios in the house (not sure if that makes a difference) Budget is probably around $300
  15. Hey guys, So I've been using a Galaxy Note 3 for about 17 months now, and I loved this phone. However, here recently its come down with a bunch of issues. Phone batter does not even last half the day, by noon I'm having to recharge it from dead. Although thats not a huge issue for me, its kind of annoying. Wifi on my Note 3 has completely been thrown out the window, I can either look at pictures on online, watch a video at 240p, Snapchat, or barely browse Facebook, but NOTHING can be running at the same time, otherwise phone will freeze up and drop wifi connection. And even if I'm very careful about what I'm running it'll still randomly drop. Phone calls drop, 4G is stronger but randomly will drop, it usually takes around 3 tries to get a text message to send. And if an app automatically updates... my phone might as well be a paper weight while it updates, not only dropping multiple times when trying to update, but going at a very slow rate. Usually when the wifi and 4G issues start acting up, anything from turning off/on the wifi and sometimes Air Plane mode will fix it for a short period of time, sometimes restarting my phone is necessary too. But I've tinkered around in the phone settings trying to find what could be causing the issue, tinkered around in my router settings thinking it could be something related to that, nothing. I eventually just went and factory reset my phone, but the problems STILL remained. My plan doesn't have me upgrade until May of 2016, which is still a long ways away. I would love to be able to find a fix for my phone to last me at least until then. If not, should I just try and get rid of this phone and find a cheap option? As always, thanks for the help.
  16. I'm talking about buying a used phone on ebay (Lumia Icon or Lumia 929) and using it on AT&T. These phones were Verizon exclusives, but I have seen unlocked versions. I've also read that they can run on both GSM and CDSM networks. If I buy a locked version, will I be able to unlock it and use it on AT&T?
  17. Rant- So I am one of those users of Verizon that was grandfathered in with my unlimited data. Recently Verizon has increased the cost of this plan by 20$ and as of yesterday for me at least they cut off my ability to tether to my home computer, less I pay them another 20$ a month. I was able to get around all of this with the use of an application called FoxFi, but alas it could not be, for the conglomerate known as Verizon has cut me off by the knees. Thus my house and electronics are all but useless...as of course my blue ray player (Xbox One) needed an update so now I can't even do my morning workouts (Insanity) I am sure though without said interwebs I will be more productive in other projects that I put off for a few rounds of TF2 or CS:GO. May even get back into digital art, although I do use a lot of internet photos and writings for motivation. Hmmm no youtube either, puts a damper on some wood working projects I have ready to go as well. The lack of high speed internet is the largest downfall of living in rural "murica." Hopefully the devs at FoxFi can get a fix within the next week or two. PS: this will really kill my F@H average!
  18. I am not very knowledgeable in the whole networking thing. So, I am trying to upgrade my stock Verizon Actiontec mi424wr. The way that my house is wired, it is set up to take in coaxial, instead of ethernet WAN, due to no hard wiring in the house. I am trying to upgrade to an ASUS RT-AC66U Wireless AC1750 Dual-Band Gigabit Router router, which doesn't have a coaxial input. I don't have any way to go from the coaxial to the ethernet that I need for the ASUS. Is there anyway that I can just use the old router, plug it into the ASUS router, and turn off wireless to just provide internet? I would still like to use the new ASUS for in-home streaming etc., that the faster speeds and data transfers would benefit from? Right now, I have the ASUS router set up as an Access Point, does this allow me to do data transfers just through the ASUS, or does it pass back through the Actiontec? Again, I am not very knowledgeable. Any input is highly appreciated. Thank You in Advance.
  19. Verizon Pennsylvania's Commitment to have 100% Coverage of High-Speed Broadband by 2015? -- A Quadruple Bait-&-Switch by Bruce Kushnick on 6/7/2015 for Huffington Post Business Full article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-kushnick/verizon-pennsylvanias-com_b_7532008.html Summarized article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-kushnick/summary-verizon-pas-broad_b_7532194.html To briefly summarize: Verizon promised in the early '90s to roll out high-speed broadband (45 Mbps up and down) to Pennsylvania by 2010. In return, the state of Pennsylvania allowed Verizon to charge customers more and pay less in taxes to facilitate the creation of new network infrastructure. This deadline was extended to 2015, the definition of "high-speed broadband" lowered to 1.5 Mbps AND in only one direction (up OR down), and Verizon convinced legislators that their existing DSL and Wireless coverage should count towards their promise of high-speed broadband for the entire territory of Pennsylvania. Customers paid $18 billion over the past 22 years for the upgrade, yet never got it. Now to get into more detail: In 1993, the Pennsylvania Senate passed a bill that Verizon (then Bell Atlantic-Pennsylvania) agreed that this network would be bi-directional, or the same speed for upload and download, and that it would go equally to rural, urban, and suburban areas. That sounds awesome, right? Well, by 1998 nothing happened. No new network construction, no fiber, just massive profits. A research firm (Economics & Technology) released a report detailing what happened, excerpts follow: By 2002, no fiber had been built and the company continued to roll out DSL over their old and existing copper wire. The Public Utility Commission had this to say at a public meeting on March 28, 2002: Then in 2003, Verizon was allowed to change their commitment to 45 Mbps in both directions to simply 1.5 Mbps in a single direction. This was decided by a judge based on fine print in the original law that Verizon brought up. From the Huffington Post Business article: This goes on and on, and Bruce Kushnick does an excellent job of laying it all out and I urge you to read the full article. The amount of money mentioned is astounding, as well (Verizon took tax write offs of $1.2 billion). He concludes that Verizon only installed about 40% (that being a generous estimation) of the fiber they committed to, then managed to change the law to allow them to use their existing Wireless services instead of upgrading wired infrastructure. So, why should we care? Well, I think this shows a pathological pattern on behalf of not just Verizon but all ISPs--they will do whatever they can to maximize profits while minimizing the service they actually provide. That's basic business, maximizing profits, but they are playing with our legal system. Defining terms like "high-speed broadband", taking subsidies and tax breaks and not delivering on providing what those subsidies and tax breaks were created for. Yet the physical media isn't enough for the ISPs, now they want to digitally manipulate our internet speeds, almost extorting companies to provide good service. Netflix and Youtube have been throttled through some providers services, when will this end? How tight will the ISPs squeeze us for money? What are your thoughts on this? Do you believe the actions of Verizon malicious, or simply capitalistic?
  20. So, this is just flat-out ridiculous. Part of me thinks it sounds completely possible, and part of me wants to say "they can't be that bad....can they?" Source: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/national/article20422653.html (and I didn't copy and paste, I sat here and typed that into the quote box. Mainly to avoid the font color problem that always happens to me. I'd have left something out, but this story is apparently short as hell already. Checked three sources, the only difference is the quote given below) Source: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/virginia-woman-claims-call-to-verizon-gave-her-heart-attack-seeks-2-35-million/ Verizon has declined to comment. This.... I. I just don't even know what to think. Judging by the amount of money she is suing for, I can see this being made up crap, but also, I can imagine Verizon behaving this way as well. *UPDATE* I found the original story. Here's some more info. Source: http://hamptonroads.com/2015/05/woman-claims-verizon-wireless-gave-her-heart-attack Reading the full story....this seems like it could be very plausible. Stress can and has been known to have physiological effects. What's really going to be damning is if the recording of the call gets released. I'd put money down that Verizon "loses" (destroys) the recording.
  21. I have a Verizon Galaxy s4 phone (model # SCH-I545) and recently Verizon officially rolled out the Android 5.0.1 update to the S4, and if I go to software update it, the first "preparation" update installs just fine, but when it comes to the actual OS, when installing, everything seems fine for a few minutes and then the Android guy is laying down with an error message, and once the phone reboots it says "no changes have been made". So I'm trying to figure out how to do something I should of done long ago: root my phone. I've tried Towelroot, but it just pops up with a message saying this device is not supported. So I need someone to walk me through how to Root my phone and manually install Android 5.0 on it, even if it's a guide here on the forums, a link to a website who's steps actually work, or a Skype call, any help is appreciated. Also side note: Verizon is an absolute fail of a company, and I'm probably switching when my contract is up.
  22. So, score another win for the internet. Yesterday, Thursday June 11th, a federal judge denied cable and phone companies attempt to put a stop to the implementation of the FCC's new Net Neutrality rules. Source: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-06-12/fcc-open-internet-rules-are-finally-here-so-what-s-changed- However, this does not mean the fight is over, as another hearing is expected later this year, as the Telecom companies continue to claw their way back into an environment where they can commit anti-trust and anti-consumer activities with absolute disdain. Not to mention that we likely won't see much of a change in anything we do online, at least for the time being. Especially where Data-caps are concerned, as the FCC has declined to "make blanket findings about the benefits and drawbacks of data allowances and usage-based pricing plans". So what does this mean for us? It means that people need to start monitoring their network speeds, and reporting ISP violations to the FCC. Seriously, we need to do this, we need to fight as we know they aren't just going to let this go. If we pay attention, and we report a crap ton of violations to the FCC, maybe it will be enough to showcase the anti-consumer, anti-competitive, and all around immoral behavior taking place at the hands of these companies, in court, and give them a firm enough ground to stand upon to make some real changes. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-06-12/fcc-open-internet-rules-are-finally-here-so-what-s-changed- http://www.latimes.com/opinion/opinion-la/la-ol-net-neutrality-rules-go-into-effect-no-stay-20150611-story.html http://money.cnn.com/2015/06/12/technology/net-neutrality/
  23. hey guys, my gf and I are moving back state side after nearly 2 years in a third world country. we were looking into new carriers with good coverage in the Indianapolis area since my gf needs good service due to work, and new phones since our iphones (4s for her and 5) are currently on their last legs. she's owned apple devices all her life so she's sticking to that, but i was hoping to give android a try since their phone seem to be capable of doing more. any input would be greatly appreciated!!!
  24. Several weeks ago there are reports, quoted from a Sony Mobile exec, saying displays of higher resolution than 1080p are unneeded on phones below 5.5" form factor( http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/376955-sony-doesnt-see-the-need-for-higher-resolution-phones/). But from the latest leak on GFXBench, it seems Sony might be thinking otherwise. A new entry with the model number "Sony E6508 VZW" was found on GFX Bench's database. Since all variants of the Z3+ fall under the model numbers "E65XX", and the words "VZW" in the model number could means "Verizon Wireless", so I believe we could say this phone is the Verizon version of the Z3+. Also the spec shown in the entry matched the spec of Z3+. Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, 3GB of ram, 32GB of storage, 20MP back camera, and 5MP front camera. But there is one interesting thing about this variant. According to this entry, this variant has a 5.1" display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 (~575.92 PPI). Noted that we didn't know if this is a prototype or the retail version, thus we don't know whether the retail version of this Z3+ variant could have a 2K display or not. And there is still no words on when will this be available on Verizon. But if this variant is available via Verizon, would you buy one? http://getnews.jp/archives/1003883(in Japanese) http://juggly.cn/archives/150929.html(in Japanese) https://gfxbench.com/device.jsp?benchmark=gfx30&os=Android&api=gl&D=Sony+E6508+VZW&testgroup=info
  25. Hello all, My family of three is looking to upgrade phones this summer/fall, and we're currently deciding between Verizon and AT&T. We've been on AT&T for years, but they're pretty shitty service and signal wise so we're thinking of jumping ship and going to Verizon. I'm interested in knowing if any of you have had experience with both AT&T Next and/or Verizon Edge in recent years. Which was cheaper? It's safe to say that Verizon is better in my area, so I'm curious about prices and whatnot. Thanks!
