So here's my situation.... I use Verizon Wireless _exclusively_ for my internet access because the access is great where I'm at but there are no "reasonable" land-based isp's to me ( to put it mildly ) also I travel on occasion. Ideally i want to connect my mobile devices to my computer via a usb cable and have internet but sadly unlike a few years ago when i could "Tether", only hotspot works now. Plus they cap it at 15GB/mo/device.... Speeds are pretty sweet though but security in a public place like a hotel or a coffee shop is ZERO because apparently anyone can listen in and record your packets to/from the internet. Android Authority had a video i saw this morning and here's their article about WiFi-snooping: https://www.androidauthority.com/capture-data-open-wi-fi-726356/ I use my laptop and computer all the time but need for the internet access to be secure. So I bought PIA when LTT had advertised it and for a while there it worked great -however- now it has issue connecting and keeps re-connecting all the time. every once in a while i get a good solid connection but then it only lasts a few minutes which is becoming a big problem for me. Troubleshooting steps i tried: * disconnecting PIA and everything works great and really fast but then I try connecting to multiple places like denver, houston, texas, us west... same issues and sometimes one is great for a while then it has problems and the others who were previously bad are good for a minute or two. * I also tried both a tablet and a cell phone but same thing. Sorry for long post -- basically; is there a way to connect my devices to my laptop or computer with a usb cable and still get internet through them or is that like permanently disabled now with no work-arounds? ? ** also does anybody know if this problem is being caused by Verizon ( on purpose ) or by PIA ( with technical issues ) ??

I've been loyally a Windows phone user since 2014. I loved my Lumia 928 from it's designed to the Windows OS, but it's finally bricked and 80% of all the apps I had on my old phone aren't even supported to re-download from the store (rip Microsoft). I'm looking for help finding a new phone since I've been out of the market for 5 years, no naturally I'm pretty out of step of what's what. I'm not the biggest fan of iOS but I'd switch if it would be worth it for my criteria. Budget: $300-350 USD max Phone Requirements: Decent repairability (battery most important probably) Can last me another 4-5 years Good level of customizability 2 years of support updates preferable What I've looked at: LG-G6 iPhone 7 Nokia 6/6.1 Nokia 7/7.1 OnePlus 5/5T Moto G6 Pixel 2 Moto Z2/Z2 Play Moto X4

(This is my first post so bare with me on this) So, you saw the title, why are these bills so high. I can't afford any more data! Well, there's so many different ways that the bills can get so high because of that. There's so many articles out there trying to explain the technical details and things like that, so I've compiled some and used actually a book (yes a book) that analyzes so many different things, but there was a section on this subject. So, without further ado, let's just jump right into it. (subscribe to Pewdiepie please). First off, the fees. U.S. cellular, where I'm from boasts no fees and that other companies have hidden fees. Did you know that that marketing strategy is a bunch of B.S.? Yeah, it actually is. The United States government wants to tax cell phones, this isn't just recent, it dates all the way back to 2007. So they'll say that they are "Emergency 911 fee" "Federal Universal Fee" and so on. So what does that mean? These types of fees aren't the carriers fault, they have to pay them. This doesn't stop with government meddling in this. There's a few things that the FCC regulates when it comes to Cell Phone Towers and such. First thing I want to talk about is what I call the "Band Wars" This isn't a battle of the bands style school of rock competition, this competition is won with money. Guess who has the best Bandwidth and Service. Sprint? nope AT&T wrong, T-Mobile, 2nd, but not close, that leaves one. Verizon, yes, Verizon. First is the Bandwidth Auction, where the FCC auctions off certain bands to the highest bidder, so Verizon won so many of those, then sold some of the lower ones to T-Mobile. Another thing is that the carriers had to pay licenses for certain bands too. There are currently 1900 licenses held for bands used for Cell Phones in the United States. So, should we just have an uprising just to make our phone prices cheaper? Not necessarily. You all hear about Huawei and their spying and vying for 5G equipment. That costs you too, but not installation, upkeep and maintenance. Your cell network is nothing without Towers and equipment. These towers are expensive too, but the companies don't own them. Carriers lease their towers. That's right, they literally rent their towers from other companies. Verizon's rent cost $258 Million per year. That's not the end of it, T-Mobile had to pay $5.7 Billion in so many different things just for maintenance for the towers in 2016. Network access fees, roaming fees to other companies, and regulatory costs, that doesn't cover all of it. Now that, really is shocking. We always want faster data, more and more and more data without limits, but that comes at a cost. In the Unites States, all combined carriers together reportedly had 15.7 Billion Gigabytes of data, let me do some math, so 15.7 Billion GB is 15.7 Million Terabytes. Let's convert that into Petabytes. That is 15,700 Petabytes of Data, in one year. That is so, so much data being transferred. So that isn't your fault that it's so expensive, it's so much data to be handled in one year. So, can you please use less data, for the good of everyone. Will we ever get a break from these expensive phone bills? Probably not. We always want newer and more, so that will cost more in turn. So, Unless you wanna not have 5g, your phone bill will probably be more expensive as time goes on.

Ok so I've been looking at some fairly budget orientated phones for a little while now, and I have more or less settled on the Honor View 10. After I had done that though, I read somewhere that it wasn't compatible with Verizon, and that's my carrier, while as some other places said you can take it in and they'll set it up? I really don't have a clue as to what the answer to this is, I would really like to be able to go for that phone, but I want to know for sure that I wont have wasted money on something I can't fully utilize. My friends and I are going to be rooming with each other in an apartment that supports Verizon or Xfinity intenet plans. One of us does online gaming, two of us watches 4k video, and we all watch lower resolution streaming such as Netflix or youtube. At most we would have 9 devices connected to the internet but the odds those being used at the same time is low. I was wondering how much mbps we should get and if anyone has a recommendation over Verizon or Xfinity?

Anyone with a oneplus device on Verizon . Do you have any limitations of use or problems? The other concern I have as a current iPhone user is support. Currently if I have a problem I go to the Apple store wait in an 8 hour line but typically walk out with a replacement . How’s the customer service for US oneplus customers?

We have a pretty simple home network, just the included Verizon Router/Access Point combo thing and an Asus router in AP mode. Sometimes everything will just lose internet (everything still shows a connection to WiFi/Ethernet but has no internet access) and the only solution we've found is to reboot the Verizon router. There was some issue with the Asus router that caused everything connected to it specifically to stop working but that appears to be fixed (or it's the same issue but it got worse).

I'm on Verizon, in the US (no sub carrier or anything), and I need to upgrade from my Moto Z Play 1. OnePlus 7 Pro looks like the best option, but I cannot find where to buy one. All the options I see on Amazon are GSM, international only, etc. I see conflicting information online about whether the phone will or will not work on Verizon, and came across several articles stating that there are significant calling issues when registering with Verizon. Can anyone advise on where to buy this phone in a way that I won't have compatibility issues? Thank you in advance EDIT: Thank you all for the advice; couldn't find a reasonable option that I was sure of, so I went ahead and just ordered a Pixel 3A (my other choice). waiting wasn't really an option, and switching carriers wasn't an option either. Maybe when OnePlus launches the 8 (no notch PLEEEEEAAASE) then I'll sell the Pixel and grab that.

I'm having inconsistent internet traffic. I subscribe to Verizon FiOS gigabit Network which has the ability to move 980mbps both ways. I always get 850 or higher on upload speeds however my download speeds sometimes drop into the 400 or even last night as low as 28. With only my PC on the network. My question is if my system was the issue bad nic cardor driver, or even a bad cable. Shouldn't both upload and download be affected? I've plugged some of my servers directly into the router as well and ran the same test with same results.

So i just got a brand new Samsung Galaxy S9+, im coming from an iPhone 6 that is all paired with my macbook to be able to do everything on both from answer calls to sending texts, to doing facetime. Now that i dont have this iphone serviced by verizon anymore, im running into issues with facetime on both my iphone and macbook. Im running the latest full build of ios and Mac os, so there shouldnt be a problem, right? I have removed the old sim from the iphone, restarted both devices several times, and i can make outgoing calls with facetime, but they just say whoever isnt available after so many rings, and i can recieve calls, like everything rings, but when i try to answer them, they just say connecting, and eventually failed to connect. What can i do to fix this?

Hey all! I need some help looking for a proper ISP bundle. My place of living is in a specific New York area where the only ISP's which provide gigabit Ethernet are Verizon and Optimum. We are currently under subscription with Optimum for $180/mo for 60/60 internet, Cable TV and Phone. We know that our deal is horribly overpriced; However, in order to upgrade to higher speeds through Optimum, we'll need to acquire Arris.-- And the reports are that Arris really sucks, so we're avoiding it. At the moment, my dad and I are researching Verizon's internet/TV/phone services. There's a bundle deal from Verizon which purportedly ends on 7/25/18 that states the following: My three questions for the gurus are as follows: 1) What do the numbers ("940/880 Mbps") mean, Mason? 2) Will I be slammed with huge add-on costs? 2) Which routers would be best suitable for this deal? Your help is always greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It was working a few days ago but now when I try to pin a memo to the home screen of my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android Oreo it never shows up. I've tried restarting the phone, turning it off & on completely & clearing cache via the built in optimizer tool. Anyone got ideas?

Summary: So, while emergency services were busy fighting the raging fires in California, Verizon appeared to be busy worried about their bottom line and that fact is crystal clear after they were informed the throttling was impacting emergency services and they did nothing about it. Verizon decided they needed to pay extra because the "unlimited" data they thought was being paid for wasn't true "unlimited" and in the end suggested they go to a $99.99/month plan that allows for 20GB and then $8/GB for all data that point. Seriously Verizon?! Who the hell thought this was going to go over without anyone saying something. People are trying to contain a massive wildfire and all they can concern themselves with is getting the department to pay more (more than doubled their bill) to effectively work and contain this fire. The throttling was so bad that they emergency command vehicle was basically unusable and unable to do the job effectively. So you would think that a mobile carrier NOT selling your location data to a third party would be, shall I say, an industry standard. Well, it's not. Not yet anyway. Verizon has announced that it will no longer sell its mobile users location data to any third party intermediaries, according to The Associated Press. They are the first in the industry to end this practice since it was uncovered by Oregon Senator Ron Wyden (D) that a company that purchased such information wasn't verifying if its users were legally allowed to track cellphone users while using their service. In a letter to carriers and the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), Wyden stated that Securus Technologies, the company in question, "wasn't actually verifying if those documents were legitimate, Securus did not conduct any review of surveillance requests." Two headline instances of such misuse of this information: 1) A Missouri sheriff was charged with illegally tracking 11 individuals without warrant or court order; with information obtained from Securus. 2) LocationSmart, one of the two companies that purchases user location information directly from Verizon, was leaking real-time location data of customers from every major U.S. carrier, during a free demo tool on its website. Verizon is the first major U.S. carriers to end this practice and they were applauded by Sen. Wyden for doing "the responsible thing and promptly announced it was cutting these companies off. It is frightening to think that the other U.S. carries did not follow suit. We shall see if any do. If you are at all concerned about your location information being sold to a third or even second party, I would bring you concerns to the attention of your individual carrier or local state or U.S. congressional leader. There are legitimate uses for your location information (ie real time traffic information and law enforcement uses, when the proper warrants and/or court orders are obtained). The more people that speak up to have regulations put in place, the safer our information will be. So in my house, I have a Verizon FiOS-G1100 router along with 80Mbps upload & download. There are about 20 devices (consoles, smart tvs, cellphones, computers, tablets) that are connected to this. Sometimes even when only minimal devices are connected to the router, it seems to struggle to do very basic tasks such as watching a stream or playing multiplayer games on PS4/X1. I wanted to know if there are any settings or just general networking tips that you guys use in order to ensure a stable home connection. Also, should I have my own separate router besides the Verizon one? And how do you guys manage to game on separate consoles within the same household? My PS4 is connected through ethernet and my brothers X1 is on wifi, and he constantly has to deal with lag. I've noticed if I change my PS4 to wifi, I receive really horrible lag as well (even with the router being right next to the PS4). Are there any settings that I should mess with the online Verizon portal that would ensure both a PS4 and X1 could be on at the same time and not have any issues in terms of playing online? Any tips or advice would help! Thanks!

So in my area, I have nothing but satellite internet options... And only two of those. I need more though, and obviously the ping you get with satellite internet is unusable. I'd like to get cable, by my hopes of that happening, were crushed when I made another post about it on here a few days ago. It was recommended I look into 4G though, so I have, and it seems to yield some super impressive results. From what I see, Verizon has the best coverage of any of the options in my area (Fountain, Florida 32438), but I can't find these plans which people are speaking of online with 50+ Mbps download speeds. I'm finding 3-5 Mbps, for $75 a month. I'm hoping I'm looking in the wrong places, because I need preferably unlimited, but at least 100GB cap internet. And I really need at least 3 Mbps Upload speed, and as fast as possible download. Is there something I'm missing here, or are these 4G plans really just that expensive? And even if they are, where can I find them? Another thing is, I have 5 devices I need to run, not including my phone, which I'd like to run on it... I have 3 PCs and 2 laptops to run. I found the Netgear 815s which looks like it should work. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Cheers, Joey

So I know that the Oneplus phones are not licensed for use with Verizon. But it does have almost all of the necessary bands in order for it to function -- Its only missing band 13. If I put my verizon sim in the phone, would it work? Sans the band 13 its technically possible. Would it say no service or would it just be spotty in areas where 13 are used? I'm so tired of crappy development from Google on the pixel phones. Im at the point where I would buy a Surface phone if one existed just to get away from these Crap Google, Samsung, HTC, Apple phones.

Hi! I'm planning to buy the galaxy S6 but the problem is that it's a verizon galaxy s6.However it will be unlocked just like all the other carrier phones smuggled from other countries to Pakistan My question is that, because it's unlocked, can I install the ROMs made for the international variants of the s6 on this verizon version or will I have to find ROMs specifically made for the verizon galaxy s6

Verizon recently announced they will begin to lock new phones to there network. Up to this point Verizon had been good at selling phones already unlocked from their network and only locking phone-in-the-box prepaid phones, to offset the subsidy of said phone. With this new change in policy it will be interesting to see if it will extend to deployed military personnel or will Verizon keep their policy of unlocking deployed military personal on request regardless of the length of ownership. News story from The Verge: https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/12/17003690/verizon-phones-locked-network-date-spring-change-policy Verizon policy quotes from Verizon website: http://www.verizon.com/about/consumer-safety/device-unlocking-policy

First i want to disclose i am NO expert and have hardly any experience in this side of technology, although I am trying to learn more. I currently have Motorola's SBG6580 "Surfboard eXtreme Wireless Cable Modem Gateway." I purchased this product back in 2011 when I was living in the barracks while in the military. Now I have a house and i was using it for my Optimum IP internet services (internet only). I switched from Optimum to Verizon FIOS (now with TV and internet) and they wanted to sell me their 2-1 modem router combo. I thought i could use my Motorola SGB6580. But with Verizon using fiber optic apparently my setup is NOT compatible with FIOS. In order to have On demand TV and what not I can not use my modem. Does anyone have any recommendations as what products I can use in place of Verizon's (I do not want to rent their product)? In my house is just MYSELF and ONE other person. We do play games and stream Movies/ TV shows. so we would like decently quick speeds, Just not trying to burn a hole in my wallet. A 2 in 1 would be nice but if I should buy separate modems and routers so be it.

So I just got my LG g5 yesterday and I had an icon pack on my old s5 and there's an option in it for LG Home or something like that. The problem is though when it goes to home screen settings, there's no theme option anywhere. I'm not sure if this is a problem with Verizon or not.
