Budget: Maybe 1000€ ish Country: Finland Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games, but other than that no clue, asking for a friend Other details: No parts, a PC or peripherals of my own other than headphones. 4K 120fps alternating between the two depending on situation, but that might be a long shot (do recommend a RES and FPS this could run) The specs of the system I'm looking at are: HP Z240 tower workstation Intel Xeon E3-1245 v6 | 16 GB DDR4 (single channel, 2133MT/s and CL15) | 512 GB SSD (HP sata III) | GTX 1650 4GB (New) | Windows 10 Pro Ready to use PassMark score is 16293 Price 699€ (with tax) There's also another option with a 1660ti that's 999€, otherwise same specs, PassMark score 20457 So basically the company that's selling these buys workstations in bulk, deletes all data and slaps graphics cards in them. Are these good value? Is cpu the bottleneck in the 1660ti model? Are we in a simulation? Anything else I should find out before pulling the trigger (if at all)? Thank you in advance Edit: added some info on RAM and SSD

Hey guys, a couple of months back I asked around here on the laptop/prebuilts forum to see if I should buy a 2017 Macbook Pro with 16gb RAM and 512 gb storage for music/photo/video editing/production (ProTools, Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop etc.), and I was told no, I would be better off saving up a bit longer and buying an M1 machine, (here's the topic https://linustechtips.com/topic/1388936). So, I trusted you guys, just over $1k in laptop savings, and I'm looking around for 16gb RAM options which are pretty hard to find in my price bracket. I noticed on Apple.com that they sell refurbished M1 Macbook Airs with 16gb RAM/256gb storage for $1,019, which comes to about $1,119 with tax+shipping in my area. I have also found a used M1 Macbook Air in "good" condition ("barely used") on Swappa that also has 16gb RAM/256gb storage, for $950 with tax+shipping, but the warranty expires at the end of February. Would it be better to buy the used one and save the $200, or buy direct from Apple? Also, would it be prudent to pony up some extra cash for a 512gb option, or can I just use external ssd's to hold my projects? Thanks guys

THE VIDEO I HAVE ATTATCHED HAS FLICKERING. EPILEPSY WARNING! Hi, I have been having very strange issues with my gpu. It is used and my setup is not the most common. It is running in a virtual machine with the host being proxmox and the virtual machine being arch linux I have 8 core deticated to it with 16gb of ram as well. My setup is a remote gaming setup where i use moonlight game stream with sunshine to allow me to play games anywhere. Now the screen is a virtual screen using Xorg tricks to make the driver think it is connected to a screen but I do not think this could be the issue The gpu utilisation in unigine superposition jumps from 70 to 100% constantly and causes the fps to jump from 20 to 40 in the extreme 1080p test. The final score is around ~ 3850 which is much lower then the usual a gtx 1080ti can get. Playing minecraft with shaders also feel choppy but without the insane flickering i get with the unigine benchmarks. I have attatched my dmesg which seems to have some errors but I cannot tell what they are about. Posiibly the gpu but I do not know. I have attatched my xorg.conf and the edid i am using for my virtual display The gpu itself never gets above 68C when gaming for long periods so it cannot be throttling. The gpu is at 1936mhz and it stays there but the gpu utilisation is a bit haywire My nvidia drivers are the latest 470.74 I am running linux kernel 5.14.7 I am using Arch linux Any help would be appreciated gpu1.mp4

So I'm building a computer from used parts from online and friends/family and I'm trying to get a ryzen 3 1200 working on a msi b350 tomahawk but I keep getting the red LED for the CPU. I believe the CPU is fine cause I tried another first gen ryzen and that didn't work and I also tried a ryzen 2200G which I know for sure works. I can't find anything online to help me aside from turn it on and off again. does anyone at least know why thats happening?

I want to build a small form factor workstation, I'm buying used parts so there's a wide range of parts I'm willing to use so long as they're cheap enough. This is the "largest" extent of my plan, https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Boredome_________/saved/#view=9NPkJx Threadripper 3970x or better, eatx gigabyte or MSI, Quadro p4000 in a Lian Li O11 dynamic mini. What do you think of this plan? Budget (including currency): 2600 Country: usa Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: autocad, inventor, illustrator, VM, vpn, IPS, systems modelling Other details I have a Dell t5500 tower from which I'm pulling the Quadro p4000

A friend asked me for a build recommendation for a little guitar recording /music editing and some light gaming from time to time. Due to the chip shortage and a smaller budget (1000 € max. Germany) I looked up ebay and saw this listing. Gerade bei #eBayKleinanzeigen gefunden. Hi, I am currently looking at getting a computer that someone is selling. The specs are as follows: - CPU: i5-6600k (Overclocked to 4.5 Ghz reliably) - GPU: R9 390 (8gb model) - RAM: 8GB 2330Mhz - Storage: 500gb SSD, 1TB HDD - OS: Activated version of Windows 10 - PSU: EVGA-850 B2 This computer comes with a 1080p monitor (60hz). The seller is asking for $500. My situation right now is that I want to build a computer in a year to a year in a half from now, but I want to have something better than my 2 year old laptop until then. My idea for this was to buy the computer and upgrade the ram with ram that I would use in the future build (probably 16Gb @3200 or 3600 Mhz) just not overclock it all the way to the max rated clock speed. I wanted to buy this system now and buy the RAM later during Amazon Prime Day, all for an extra $100. I already have a high refresh rate monitor, mouse and keyboard, so I won't have to worry about that. Is this a good deal? Should I change my plan? I know that this was a lot, but if there are any questions, let me know. -Thanks

test Need advice on a comprehensive way to test a used computer
jippa_lippa posted a topic in Windows
Hello, everyone. I have never bought a used computer in my life, and I'm about to buy one, specifically an HP Envy 360 13" that is pretty much almost new. I was wondering if you had some advice on how to test the computer works properly, once bought. I'd imagine a way to test the drive, ram, CPU, USB ports and GPU (integrated) for errors. Thank you very much. -
I ordered ryzen 5 3400g from Amazon.in. After i received the package i unboxed it. And to my surprise it's ryzen 5 3600xt. The thing is i ordered APU because i have no gpu and can't get one at reasonable price. So can't run this without gpu. I have 2 options. 1 is replacement and other is to keep it and buy cheap graphics card and when stocks are back I'll buy good one. Another problem is that the 3600xt came in box which is not good in condition. The stock fan has no thermal paste applied on it and i think someone removed it. The processor looks like in good condition but i think it's also used. So help me on below questions. 1. Do i still get warranty for this scenario as i have different item than i ordered so the bill might not work. 2. How to check if the processor is working or not as i dont have any graphics card. For second question i have ez debug led in my mother board. After i put this cpu and other parts together none of the light is turned on which means the processor is working right? So do i replace or keep the processor (may be second hand) and get cheap graphics card?

Hello, I might be able to get my hand on a decomissioned server for free. I don't know what cpu it has , all I know is that it has at least 32gb of ram and 24 1tb drives. I don't have any illusions of beeing able to use it for bitcoin or hosting services for a fee. besides that having a loud server the room isn't the best thing and electricity is a bit expensive where I live. I see this just as a fun project and opportunity to learn some stuff about running your own servers. So What are interesting projects I could do/play around with. So far I've come up with freenas (doing some raid with those 24 drives), nextcloud and Minecraft. What interesting things do you know that I could do with this server? I'm really open I just want to play around and learn a bit. I don't want to set up anything permanent. Big Thanks already in advance

Hi, we recently made a little experiment at our admin circle, where we started testdisk on a used hardware that came with and old laptop from ebay. And as you may have thought, we managed to recover all the data on the drives. Now to my question: Does attempting to recover data from used drives, make you an ass ? Or is it the risk, the seller is willing to go when selling the drive too.

He said that the sticker seals are intact, it was never fixed or opened up. Lower I'll provide some pictures

Preferably below £100 (GBP) Anyone got any suggestions as I've been out of the pc building game for so long. I have a HP Z400 pc with a Intel Xeon 5650 CPU, 18GB RAM and a old as hat quadro nvs 300 GPU. My son is getting into gaming more and is showing interest in PC now. So could anyone help please?- 4 replies

DISCLAIMER idk if this is legal question or whatever so if a mod sees this and needs to take it down or something please do, I don't mean to break any rules I don't know about. Are those cheap "used" windows 10 keys legit and legal? If so where is the most reliable place to find and buy one in your opinion?

Dose anyone know a reliable site, where i can buy used PC pars?

Hi, so i have had a pretty crappy GPU for a while and I have decided to upgrade now that i have some cash, my old GPU is a MSI GTX 1650 AERO ITX, im thinking about selling it to fund some more upgrades like my motherboard which is also very crappy but i don't know how much to sell it for. I've been on ebay and other sites that resell used items but there weren't any listings of the exact card to show me how much i should mkae the price. I'm not great at this kind of thing so i thought it would be a good idea to go somewhere where people actually do know. If you have any ideas please let me know, thanks.

Hi everyone. I'm building my first pc, and I've come across a used 2070 Super (Gigabyte Gaming OC 3X 8g) for 370 euros. The lowest new 3060 i can find in France is the MSI Ventus 2x for 430 euros (for reference). I've used gpu.userbenchmark.com to compare the 2070 Super and the 3060 and it said that the 2070S had better scores. Is this site trustworthy? Does the small advantage in this benchmark translate well to games?

Budget (including currency): 1000-1500 Country: South East Asia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: for me, Chrome (Kantai collection browser game), Wows, Anno, FF14, (homeworld maybe?) ps3 emulator. For her excel, phtoshop maybe light gaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'm currently running, CPU 3700x Mobo Aorous X570 ultra (chipset fan dead, well not dead but loud so turn it off) Ram 32GB Thermaltake 3600 (running at 3200 coz 4 sticks) GPU RTX 2070 Super. Custom water loop 360mm rad, ek block, pump res Case O11D Air I have a spare RX5700XT to give to my wife and i've commited to her pc so far Mobo ASrock B550m Steel Legend O11 Air mini, Asus 850 psu, EK Basic 240 AIO, LTT noctua (it refuses to die) I'm planning to give her my Cpu and ram. so she will have a decent sytem with the 3700x and RX5700XT and 32gb ram of whatever the memory speed the board/cpu will run at. The question is do I go in on AM5 7900x/7700x + X670/B650 + DDR5. switch to intel then i have a choice to make with ddr4 vs 5. but what ever cost i saved from going to intel ddr4 will be offset by the need to get a new lga1700 waterblock. theo ther option would be 5900x or 5800x3d in a x570s mobo or another b550 without the chipset fan. or just get ryzen 5000 and stick with the same mobo and run it till the chipset die of heat. from now on i'll probably stick to 2 stick ram. And i have no plan to buy new gpu at this point, the 2070super is fine, eventhough i'm on the aorous 43in 4k monitor. i just run game at 1440p.

I have been thinking about buying a smartwatch for years. I use Android and do not want an apple watch even thought they are the best ones out. I just have never been able to justify the price of a smartwatch. On TechQuicke about the new Samsung watches it was mentioned that used wearables are really cheap. Why is that, because a quick ebay search had a ton of Samsung watch 4s for sub $75 (US). That is low enough that I can justify taking a shot on one. I just am surprised about the huge price drop. Are there issues with used wearables I don't know if?
