Budget (including currency): $350 (4x towers, $1,400 total for towers) Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, Roblox, Low-End Steam Games Other details: Plan to use with Asus VZ249HE 1080p monitors, aiming for 16GB of RAM, SATA SSD boot drives Hello fellow enthusiasts! As a summer project for my daughters I'm planning out a home computer lab build. This will be replacing two old Lenovo laptops running Manjaro, I'd like to take the plunge to some excess business towers (Dell, Lenovo, or HP) that are running last-gen hardware at a good discount. I'm thinking Intel i7-4770 with around 16GB of RAM and room for a future graphics card upgrade (Maybe GT 730 or AMD equivalent), running pre-installed Windows 10 Home or Pro. Current laptops have i5-3320m with 8GB of RAM so this should be a nice performance upgrade. We will use these computers to play Minecraft and Roblox primarily, but I'd like to help them dabble in some other popular games on Steam which hasn't been super easy right now with the Manjaro Linux laptops. I'd like all 4 computers to be identical hardware to make supporting them easy. Just for level-setting, I found these refurbished Dell Optiplex machines at Best Buy. They look pretty much like what I'm after, but maybe I can find something cheaper that would give me the budget margin for adding a graphics card. Where can I find a sweet deal on 4x excess workstations? Dell - Refurbished OptiPlex Desktop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 480GB SSD - Black/Silver Other Relevant Info: - The two old laptops have Samsung 850 Pro 1TB hard drives which I will be scavenging, these can be used either as steam drives or potentially boot drives in two of the machines - I already have two Asus VZ249HE 1080p monitors and am planning to buy two more (on top of budget above), they're nothing special but they're cheap and work fine for this use case - I have recently installed Gigabit fiber internet and a Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE with Cat-6 cable to the room where the computers will be located. Planning to use a small Ubiquiti managed switch to fan out wired connections to the computers - Would be nice if they had bluetooth for headphones, not critical though.

Hello people I have two computers, 1st system is fairly reliable and I have been using it for a few years, 2nd system was handed down to me by a family member. I want to sell one of these systems or mix & match parts and both GPUs to buy a newer used GPU. What should I build on 4th gen or 6th gen? Which one would be better for gaming and some data analysis workload like Power BI, MSSMS The goal is to end up with one system from existing parts and a new used GPU something better than RX580. without putting any money in. Also what used options do I have for budget GPUs after selling one of the two systems Budget (including currency): Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming, Power Bi, MSSMS Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):
-
Edit: someone else already bought the GPU. But I still wouldn't mind a reply so I can learn for the future. No rush, tho. Budget (including currency): $75 CAD (Cuz I wanna save most of my money for if/when I need to build a brand new Pc). Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Play Path of Exile. Use Blender 4 and newer versions (mostly low-poly, no textures). Other details 1) See gpu pics, plz. It's an Asus Gtx 970 Blower Style Gpu. For $36 CAD + $28 shipping (so $64 CAD total, $47 USD). Lots of pics. Seller has all positive ratings. They responded to my questions quickly. They said: - it's cheap because they tend to flip products quickly due to limited storage space - it was used in an office pc before they upgraded it The back has dark spots, white specks, and what I'm guessing is dust (I have a blower). Is any of this a red flag? Also, when I looked up Asus Gtx 970 blower style, the pic is a sleek white gpu, and not the generic-looking gpu for sale. When i image-searched, lots of other gpu's had a similar generic look. Is this normal? 2) Is it as simple as needing a psu with high enough wattage? (Which I believe I do). Or do one of the +12v rails have to have high enough amps or something? The gpu for sale requires a single 8-pin connector. Existing Parts: - Stock Psu is 460W (Might not have an 8-pin connector. But let's assume it does). (see pic) - Other Psu: Thermaltake 500W Tr2-500NL2NH (see pic) - 23-inch 1080p lcd monitor - i7-3770 - 24GB Ram (2x8GB and 2x4GB iirc) - 1 Ssd sata - 1 Hdd sata. Edit: I can put this in an external enclosure if I have to. - Whatever mobo came with a Dell Xps 8500 Desktop Pc - This has been running with an Xfx Radeon Hd 5770 for a while, no major problems at all, other than outdated for newer versions of Blender. And sometimes I have to restart pc when starting up (not sure if this is gpu related. It's no big deal).

Hey fellas, Just picked up a MSI RTX 2060 SUPER VENTUS GP OC for cheap!!! Card is super clean, still had all the rubber output connector plugs, box w/ documentation, anti static, etc... Only paid $130 locally on Fb... From the brief conversation I had with the seller, I'm pretty certain the card was used for mining... **** MAIN ISSUE / QUESTION **** I ran a benchmark using MSI Kombuster in order to verify temps, and that the clock speeds were boosting to where they should be, etc... Its boosting all the way up to 1950mhz and will stay there for quite a while before dropping down to 1800/1750mhz... Which is fair bit higher then the cards factory rating... The spec sheet shows a boost clock of 1665mhz. I then checked the bios version on the card and GPUz shows version: 90.06.4c.00.65 Upon searching on Techpowerup for the card model and that bios version is says that "Warning: You are viewing an unverified BIOS file." Does this mean that, that bios version is not stock and is a modified bios in order to boost the cards specs? ******* Normally I would be thrilled and not mined at all that the card is "Over clocked" and running as fast as possible! But I purchased this card to upgrade my daughters gaming pc I Built her a few years back. So because of that I want the card to be stable as possible without having to monitor it or even think about it at all. In just a few minutes I'm going to clean and replace the thermal compound and run the card though a long stress test and monitor the temps. I'm thinking that as long as the temps stay below 90c and is boosting to at least the stock 1665mhz, then it should be perfectly fine. I'll make sure to set a decent fan curve when I install it in her tower. ***** Sorry for the long elaborate post. Just want to make sure I gave all the details, etc... Thanks for your help!!!

Budget (including currency): Bottom dollar, or using what is available and replacing as necessary in future. Country: 'Merica *bald eagle screech in the distance instills majesty* Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: NAS/Storage for datalogs and tuning files. Other details: TLDWR (too long dont want to read); I'm trying to build my first nas with leftover pieces, and budget hardware but need guidance as well as someone to test my spare motherboard. MPG z390 gaming pro carbon. Secondly, I have 0 hecking clue what I am doing, and would love guidance on how to do it effectively, what would be necessary to build one, and keep it maintained in a terrible pc environment (dust, vapors, you name it we got it). Hey! Im JD and I work in the performance automotive industry, specializing in domestic v8 building and tuning. Cool, what does that mean here? I end up with a plethora of pdf instructional documents and anecdotal notes, that I would like to begin organized storage and easy access to it. On the other hand we also accrue a large stash of datalog files, too large to store locally on our devices that would be lovely to keep for future reference or C.Y.A factor when a customer has an issue, I can pull a file and improve my ability to diagnose or provide insight into potential issues. So... what do I need? Thanks for asking. I'm trying to piece together, what i believe would be a NAS. I would like remote access if I can from home, however being able to transfer over network in the same building is a necessity, home access is not. I am using leftover pieces from my first few PC builds that I have kept for rainy days or tinkering interests alike, which leads me to my first need. 1: I have a spare MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon. It was purchased as a good working board, however on arrival I could not get it to post and replaced it with another of the same board, so it got shelved. Everything looks visually fine (pins, traces, etc), but I am a tinkerer and not an IT/PC wizard like some folks here. It could be a simple issue, it may be detrimental. I am just hoping to find a trustworthy service or individual I can have test the board for me. 2: I have no idea where to begin with hardware/software and reading just makes things more confusing sometimes. I am a total newb when it comes to storage systems and simpler is better for me and the others who would use the system. Therefore, a simple software/os would be lovely. Stable is a necessity as there is no to minimal downtime for service. While I am semi-competent and have built my own PC's and service regularly, this is a nas in a shop with no IT department. Just a nerd who sees a need lol. 3: Hardware! My plan is to reuse the aforementioned z390 if it is good, and I have a spare case with disk drives. From there, I am lost. Is there a special bit of hardware I should include, or need for QoL, or do I just jam this punk full of drives, boot up the recomended OS and just let it rip? A serious thanks in advance to anyone who not only takes the time to read my word spew stew, but provides some insight and education on the topic.

Hi. I live in the U.S. I just started working on my new build because my old gaming laptop is dead. I originally wanted to purchase the RTX 40 series graphics cards, but I heard that they are too expensive for their performances. Hence, I started considering buying used, high-end 30 series cards. What are the current market prices for used 3080, 3080 Ti, 3090, and 3090 Ti? How do their performances compare to the 40 series cards'? What do I need to keep in mind when buying used cards from websites like ebay? Thank you! Here is my build (without a graphics card): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PW4cZw. I've already ordered all the parts on the list. My budget for the graphics card is flexible as long as the card worths the money. I will most likely not upgrade the card in the next 3 years. p.s. I am only considering NVIDIA cards because I need to use CUDA from time to time. OpenCL on AMD cards is not an option for me.

UPDATE: Ended up getting an aorus master 3080 10g for 400 usd. From what I checked my 9600k should not really bottleneck it too much and i should be able to get the performance i want from it. Thanks everyone for the help! Hiya, this is my first post. I have been thinking of upgrading my GPU and am just sifting through options. However, it is quite hard for me to figure out what is a good deal as performance between cards is hard to measure sometimes as some of the testing videos are 2 years old now and might not be accurate. I am looking for consistent 144fps at 1440p, I usually play at around medium settings, rarely going to high cause I think it just doesn't look as good. Mostly interested in being able to run Warzone 2 at those settings and maybe witcher 3 at 1080p with RT on for the Nvidia cards I am looking at. My rig: I5-9600k (not overclocked, can overclock) 16gb ram 750w 80+ gold power supply Rog Strix 1080 (what I'm looking to upgrade) I have been looking at rx6700xt, 3070, 3070ti and 3080 because prices in my country seem decent put I'm not really sure. This is where I need your help! Currently I am seeing offers at these price points: 3080 - There is one for 400usd but in the ad it says "the fans need to be at 100% otherwise it goes to safety mode" - Aourus card - Most of the others hover around 460usd 3070ti - Between 345 and 400 usd 3070 - Between 316 and 345 usd very rarely one pops up for 287usd Rx6700xt - Around 281 mostly a bit higher price than this Not considering the 6750xt because it hovers around the price of the 3080. There is a 6800xt for around 517 and there may be some wiggle room there but I am not sure if I should try if it is not much better that the 3080 There is also one 6800 for 400usd but the rest hover up to 460usd so quite similar to the 3080. There might be some wiggle room on most of the card but any help based on those prices would be highly appreciated.

Budget (including currency): 500€ Country: Germany Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mainly 1080p gaming, triple A to small lan party games; a bit of workstation use for university Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Current setup: CPU R5 1600; GPU Zotac 1070 Amp Extreme; PSU Corsair GS800; an old Enermax case and some 20€ cpu air cooler First of all, Mobo (Asus Prime X470 Pro) and 16 gigs of corsair´s vengeance ram stay the same. I decided to finally upgrade my rig bc i got some money saved up and i feel its time to retire the rig that served me well for the last 4 years atleast i think I managed to buy (on kleinanzeigen, idk somewhat german craigslist ig) a RTX 3060 Ti Gddr6 8G used for 200€ R5 5600X used in an office pc for 100€ Corsair RM650i used in the same pc for 60€ a scythe mugen air cooler for 30€ once again used in the office pc And a bequiet pure base 600 new for a 6nice9 amount of money bc the old Enermax case is just hard to build in and i modded it somewhat over the years( my old posts document my raspberry pi which was installed in an optical bay for a while ae) In general im very happy with the outcome bc i think these are somewhat good bargains right? And should hopefully be a significant upgrade and at the same time carry me through the next few years as the previous hardware What do you think? And as always sorry for possibly existing spelling mistakes :)

Budget (including currency): 1000€ Country: Portugal Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, 3D Modelling Other details So I have a prebuilt from 2015, Intel Core I3-6100, NVIDIA GTX 950 2GB and 8GB RAM, I really need a new computer it's not that slow most of the time but I'm starting to reach the absolute limit of playing games, newer ones I have to play at 720p low 30fps limit (yes I know), I want to be able to play at minimum 60fps I don't care about any more than that, I have a 27'' 1080p 75Hz monitor that I mistakenly bought for the size disregarding a higher resolution, its fine for me since I have not experienced anything better so I won't notice how bad it is compared to 1440p which I would instead upgrade in the future. I have been looking at motherboard and CPU bundles on the used marketplaces and I know how to see if they're compatible but I don't know which one would be the best choice for future upgradability, I want to make a wiser choice this time, for a GPU I saw the last video about used GPU's from older generations and the idea sounds very good, anything would be a massive upgrade from a 950 I was thinking maybe a 3060, I've seen some for around 300€ I'll appreciate any suggestions. P.S. I put the 1000€ limit but I'd like to spend much less on something decent if possible

Right now my PC is as follows:- CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 MOBO: Gigabyte B550M DS3H RAM: 16GB 3200mhz (8GB*2) GPU: GTX 1050 2GB PSU: KCAS 650W 80+ Gold Semi-Modular I'm looking to upgrade to 1080p, 60+fps at medium-highest settings. so give me your thoughts, Budget is about $USD120 or ~RM600 I'm buying Used I've heard Intel has been massively discounting their GPUs so are they something I should consider?

Heyo, Looking for a cheap 144hz monitor, I'm down to buy a used to save a few bucks Budget is $USD200 or RM800, but I'm trying to find the cheapest possible The main priorities are: colour accuracy (nothing like creator levels, something that's good enough for gaming and content consumption) Smooth image quality Minimum bezels I've heard good things about AOC's offerings but id like to consider all my choices I thank ye in advance

Alright, So I plan on buying a used HTC Vive off Craigslist for $400, yes it's low, also an hour drive away. but that's why i'm here. What is the best way to test an HMD? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5577G with a 4gb GTX 1050(desktop is better, see profile for specs), clearly not VR ready but would it work to test in a Starbucks or something? What are some other things I should be looking for? (also not sure where to post this, HMD = Head Mounted Display so i'm posting here. mods feel free to move or delete)

Hi, I was wondering, do you guys think it's a good idea to buy a used workstation? I know a company here in Japan, with a shop in Osaka, that sells tons of used computers. Among them, quite a few Dell or HP workstations. Deals are often interesting, start rather low for 4C/4T or 4C/8T Xeon + 16GB Ram a Quadro and new SSD (about ¥40,000~¥50,000), up to quite a lot more for a Dual 10C/20T Xeon + 128GB Ram a Quadro and new SSD. They also offer a 3 years warranty, which is totally unheard of around here for second-hand computers. My worry is, well, for what I know all these computers might have been ON 24/7 for years and could just stop working anytime. Can't make up my mind. It's tempting, but is it really such a good idea to go the second-hand path...?

I'm planning to set up a plex server. I'd love to hear some input or be warned of any red flags with this plan. I can either buy a used server rack or just stuff a regular cabinet full of drives and upgrade my rig. I want the system to be able to handle whatever the 1080 Ti can handle in transcoding, I'm fairly certain both rigs will be fine for this. I already have 2 9211i HBA's in the mail and I will be using a SN750 1TB m.2 2280 NVMe SSD as cache. Prebuilt option: 12x 3,5" slots 2x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2660 v2 25M Cache, 2.20 GHz 10C/20T 128GB ram (unspecified) Dell PERC H710p 1GB Minicard RAID kontroller. (Seller offers preflashed to IT mode for small charge) 2x 750W PSU 4x 1GbE ports Idrac 7 Enterprise managment system +1080 Ti from old rig cost ~$1000 (drives not included) OR 1x i7 8700K 8 or 16gb of cheap cheap ram any case that can fit 12 drives Single PSU 1x GbE port LSI 9211i HBA's cost ~$300 (drives not included)

Budget: Maybe 1000€ ish Country: Finland Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games, but other than that no clue, asking for a friend Other details: No parts, a PC or peripherals of my own other than headphones. 4K 120fps alternating between the two depending on situation, but that might be a long shot (do recommend a RES and FPS this could run) The specs of the system I'm looking at are: HP Z240 tower workstation Intel Xeon E3-1245 v6 | 16 GB DDR4 (single channel, 2133MT/s and CL15) | 512 GB SSD (HP sata III) | GTX 1650 4GB (New) | Windows 10 Pro Ready to use PassMark score is 16293 Price 699€ (with tax) There's also another option with a 1660ti that's 999€, otherwise same specs, PassMark score 20457 So basically the company that's selling these buys workstations in bulk, deletes all data and slaps graphics cards in them. Are these good value? Is cpu the bottleneck in the 1660ti model? Are we in a simulation? Anything else I should find out before pulling the trigger (if at all)? Thank you in advance Edit: added some info on RAM and SSD
