Hello everyone, I plan to buy a MacBook (please don’t judge the brand, I just prefer macOS for everything except gaming) and I am therefore looking for a USB-c Dongle/hub. I want at least one type A port, as well as one HDMI port. Ethernet and USB-c Pass through are a plus, but not needed. My problem is that I am not able to find a dongle that supports 4K (or even 1440p) they all support max 30Hz, or 1080@60. Is it a limitation of USB 3.1 gen 1? or just cheap brands? And I know the thunderbolt 3 docks supports everything I want and more, but they all cost about 300€ and/or require external power

LG has seen an increasing popularity in the market of displays from phones all the way to jaw-dropping televisions The company has announced that they will showcase new monitors that will surely entice consumers with the latest technologies available The monitors will appear in the next Consumer Electronics Show which will happen from January next year (less than a month away) The first model they would like to introduce is the 32UD99, a 4K HDR IPS monitor with USB-C The company has also stated what specific HDR standard they utilize which is nice to see The second monitor they will introduce is the 34UM79M, a chromecast-enabled Ultrawide monitor designed as a "multimedia" monitor The more interesting bit about the Ultrawide monitor is the Dual Controller feature which enables users to switch between the PC and mobile device using a single screen This means you will be able to adjust the monitor's settings using your mobile device so adjusting settings using buttons on the monitor won't be necessary I have become a fan of LGs monitors and televisions because of the sheer amount of features they pack and the sleek designs they utilize I would honestly like to see more monitors utilize the technologies that they're bringing forward to enable the market to be a tad bit more crowded Source: LG, The Verge

So recently I bought a Dell XPS13 (2016 version, w/ Kabylake) and I am happy with it (it looks very nice and fits my needs perfectly), but I have one problem. The only output for external displays goes through the USB-C Thunderbolt port, which works fine under Windows but not on Linux. I use Dell's DA200 adapter (which wasn't cheap) and the HDMI port doesn't give a signal. The screen is detected in the OS, but it won't receive signals. VGA, USB3.0 and ethernet seem to work fine. After trying Ubuntu (usb-c port didn't work) and Mint (standby resume issues) I'm running Fedora 25 (kernel version 4.8.6-300 if that helps) currently. After some reading it seems like Thunderbolt 3 and Linux isn't the best combination out there yet, but there are others saying it works fine for them and it seems to vary between adapters and linux distros. The adapter I have does not work with HDMI, but I found this article using a different adapter saying it works fine (he has the Skylake XPS13 though) for him. Is it worth trying this adapter; what are the chances it'll work? I'd rather not waste my money on trying tons of adapters as this laptop cost me enough already TL;DR Dell XPS13 2016 Kabylake version USB-C to HDMI not working with Dell's DA200 adapter under Linux (fine in Windows), is it worth trying other adapters like the one mentioned above or Dell's own USB-C to HDMI? I'd rather not end up with a basket of adapters that all don't work and having wasted my money Thanks for your time

Hi, again I am really confused with peripherals and usb-c, I hope someone can help me. specifically I am looking for: the smallest possible formfactor motherboard (down to mini-itx) where I can connect 1 Display (at least Full HD), 2 HIDs (USB 2.0) and 1USB 3.0 device over one connector. So I am looking for one connector type that can carry the mentioned signals. Thunderbolt 3 can obviously do it some USB-C connectors can do it, but what do I have to look for? (it is not always clear which features are supported on a specific device) can a USB 3.1 type-A connector do what I want? (I don't think so, but asking just in case) Additional requirements are: 1x PCIe x16 slot, 1x M.2 slot, 1151 socket It would be great if someone can help me with my questions and maybe point me to a board. Thanks a lot.

so I recently purchased a touch bar MacBook Pro from the Apple Store, on Thursday. I did read all of the negative reviews and complaints, but I thought that they didnt apply to me, so I went ahead and bought one. a few points I would like to point out. 1) its damn beautiful machine 2) the usb-c issue I feel was very over-hyped. For professionals, the lack of an SD card reader is frankly the only thing I can get on board with as far as IO is concerned. If you are a professional, I would assume that you carry your MacBook in a laptop bag or maybe a backpack, there will be room for the dongles that you require. I honestly haven't plugged anything in to it yet, other than my iPhone which they do sell USB-C to lightning cables at the store for 25$, whatever I don't mind. 3) Keep in mind, I am a student. I am in no way a professional (yet) and I don't use it for any intensive tasks, yes I will get berated by some of you for getting a machine like this for school, but thats my biggest issue with the new MacBook Pro. its name. It should have replaced the MacBook Air and let the pro tasks to the 15 inch. 2 cores and no dGPU are an issue for pro users. 4) Yes this thing is bloody expensive, but what apple product isn't, I wanted to get involved with Mac OS, I had never used it and I've been told by people around me at school that its the way to go. I would love to answer some questions about it because I want to defend the product, because I don't believe it is getting what I deserves. I do understand the issues that people have with it, and I would love to share my experiences. Desktop PC is has intel 4690k i5, Gigabyte G1 GTX 970, Z170 ASUS motherboard. I am not an apple fanboy.

So I watched an LTT vid where Linus was talking about feeding one of the optical USB-C/Thunderbolt cables through his wall and using that for all his ports. I love that idea but I have struggled to find info on USB-C/Thunderbolt cards and docks that allow you to pass through your dedicated gfx to it, some seem to have their own USB driven display card and others there is no info. it's all quite confusing. most google results I get are talking about external gfx cards over USB-C/Thunderbolt. Any advice or help would be much appreciated

So, Ive been looking for the past week or so and cant seem to find it. I am looking for some way to get a 180 degree usb-c male to female to plug into my tab S5e and wrap around the back so that I can plug in other dongles without them looking like an antenna. Ive come across some charge/sync cables that has this 180 degree angle but nothing that would work well for what Im wanting to do.

Hello, I've spent the last few days searching for a monitor to use at home with my Macbook, but couldn't come to a conclusion. I am going to mainly use it for programming. Would appreciate if you guys could help me with some suggestions. The specs that I'm looking for, are: curved display, usb-c port, 27" , and not more than 350$. I did find a product, but I wasn't able to find that many reviews for it. Also, what do you think about it? This is it: Samsung lc27h800. Thank you, Eric

I'm streaming from OBS in Bootcamp (Windows10) on a MBP (2018). (yeah I know, just go with it)... I have this old (as in I got it when I got my Pixel C) USB-C to ethernet and 3-USB A dongle. I've noticed that sometimes my Ethernet just plain craps out when pushing heavy data loads through it. This happens only on this adapter in Windows and in MacOS. My question is: Has anyone done any testing on actual throughput and limitations on the adapters out there? (Sounds like a good video. hint. hint.) Am I crazy in thinking that it could even be the adapter, my backup one (which is a super one with VGA and HDMI and all sorts of crazy on it seesm to work fine.) What adapter can I buy that's just straight Thunderbolt 3 to Gigabit that works well? Amazon reviews are mixed for the Belkin USB-C to Ethernet adapter... (Which is the Apple Store sanctified version.) Is a TB3 ->TB2 -> Apple Gigabit adapter chain just stupid? Yes, I'm an apple fanboy but it's only because I have to use Mac only software; I do really advanced printing... I could totally use some help. Thanks. CMYKninja

I got my mother a Fractal Define R6 USB-S and I'm going to upgrade her current PC to the next gen ryzen (if the benchmarks are any good). I'm unsure which current B450/X470 Mainboards have a USB-C Frontpanel header so she can use the front panel USB and my research didn't really get me far... also: What about the upcoming b550/x570 platform? Do we know anything about USB-C Headers on announced mainboards?

I want to be able to charge all my devices with a single usb-c cable. If i were to buy the: Samsung galaxy note 10+ (45w) Galaxy book s (45w) Galaxy tab s6 (25w) Galaxy buds (idk) Sony wh-1000xm3 (7.5w?) Could i then charge the laptop, phone, tablet, headset and earbuds using the same 45w charger (that samsung will be selling for the phone and laptop) to charge every device. I guess it would work just fine and i know that you can most of the time charge high speed supported devices with slower chargers at slow speeds, but can i SAFELY charge my low speed supported devices with a high speed cable. Will the devices regulate the input so that it only draw as much power as needed and not more which wont damage the battery over time or maybe even overheat or start a fire

Hi! So, I recently bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, and it supports quick charge 4.0, the thing is, can I use a Moto fast charger without damagin the battery? I had a moto g5 plus, and the Moto fast charger has three outputs, standard: 5v-1.6A, turbo1: 9v-1.6A and turbo2:12v-1.2A. The only difference is that Xiaomi's phone has USB type C, which forces me to swap cables. The original Xiaomi charger has a single output of 5v-2A, and the phone recognizes the fast charger when I plug it in. Using it normally, and with Xiaomi's type-c usb plugged in moto's fast charger, will damage my battery? I know fast charging degrades the battery "faster", but I want to be sure this doesnt damage the whole thing in months Thanks!

Hi, Now that my LG G6 stopped updating, 3.5mm is dead and MicroSD tray broke, I am looking for a replacement. For now my goal is to find a unicorn in a way... Let me explain I need an android device with clean android, NFC, Usb-C, MicroSD slot, dual sim and a 3.5mm Jack. The only option that I see right now is ASUS Zenfone 6 released recently. It does meet most of my requirements, yet this ZenUI is absolutely killing me! Any alternatives? Am I blind and dont see any other options? To be clear - I usually buy a device for a long term, so I need a reliable device too... And that flip camera doesnt look very durable to me. Suggestions? Links to devices? Any help is appreciated. Cheers P.S. Rooting is not my strongest suit

(copying this off my reddit question in /r/pcmasterrace, since I never got even an upvote there). I'm trying to find a small, silent PC case with front-panel USB-C, but can't seem to find a decent selection. Requirements are, in rough order: Front-panel USB-C (even if as an addon module). Top/side mounted works, too. As much sound dampening as possible. I'm 0% interest in RGB and side windows for this build. ATX-sized (tentatively for an AORUS Master) Compatible with existing gear that i'm carrying over: H115i pro (2x140mm) rad, HX750i psu, RTX 2070. Right now, I'm replacing a case that's about W190mm x H423mm x D485mm. So far, after a significant search, I've only found two possible options: Fractal Design's Define R6 (it's an E-ATX case, so about a size too big from what I wanted): W233mm x H465mm x D543mm Silverstone KL07, which I'm having trouble sourcing: W222mm x H510mm x D467mm I'm looking at something like the Corsair 270R, 275Q, 330R (on the bigger side) or 400Q, and wishing Corsair would upgrade their lineup or sell usb-C upgrade kits. I was also wondering, should I just settle for a bay-mounted USB-C port? My initial thought on this is case with ODD bays might not be smaller than the other options I've already got. Any good suggestions?

I built a new computer recently, went mostly all out and spent $4000 on it. Typically when you spend that much you kinda expect everything to work and be compatible, but oh no it wasn't. The Coolermaster Cosmos c700p and the Msi x570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi motherboard. This coolermaster case comes with a 3.1 gen 2 usb type C port on the front, and this particular usb generation needs a special internal motherboard header called an A-Key 20 Pin Female Header. It wasn't until I went to find this header on my board that I came to realize my board doesn't have one, and I would have to upgrade to one of MSI's top tier boards to get it, that being either the x570 Godlike or the x570 Creation board. Is front mounted type c (Or I guess any type rated for that generation speed) such a luxury that support for it needs to be reserved for the most expensive boards. That's $500 - $650 for a motherboard. I saw a refurbished creation board for $400, but even then, is that really worth buying another board just for the front type C port? Any thoughts on all this?

Greetings. I have a Samsung s10e with pictures on it that I need to transfer to my pc. Unfortunately, my pc doesn't recognize it's plugged in. The phone starts charging without asking for a file share. I followed YouTube tutorials and forum "how to" with no success. I have never had this issues with my previous android. The only thing I have not tried is using a cord made for the s10e. I tried 2 different types of cords. Could it be the cord? Thinking about buying this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072LY7465/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AX5T5JLFOTX3S&psc=1 I don't have the original cord anymore. I don't see how it make a differences but I'm out of ideas. Any ideas? (The amount of pictures I need to move over is impractical to download through google backup. I need to fix this issue. I'm not looking for a work around. )

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro from 2017 and I am mostly happy with it. However, now that I have started using USB-C I am realizing how much I am missing out not being able to charge it with USB-C. So, I had this idea to get a Surface Pro charging cable or rather connector and a USB-C cable and put those together so that I have USB-C on one and the proprietary Surface Charging Connector on the other end. My question: does something like this already exist and where do I find a Surface Pro Charging Connector/Third Party cable/connector as I am not willing to pay the price for the original cable? BTW I am open to any better suggestions. It literally just was an idea.

My phone is Samsung Galaxy A8, 2018 model, running Android 8.0. It has a USB-C connector with USB 2.0 My laptop is the HP Spectre x360 late 2017/ early 2018 model - 1 USB-A 3.0 and 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports that are also used for charging. The laptop comes with a 65W USB-C charger (and accepts even a 60W charger without complaining*) OK, so lately I've been travelling via train a lot more than before, and because trains suck where I live, I need to tether my laptop and phone if I want to get something done on the way. I do that by plugging the phone to the USB-A port via a USB-C to USB-A 3.0 cable. I just allow the phone to share the connection over USB, it works perfectly, the laptop charges the phone and I can reply to my emails. Paradise life on the train. But then I got a Samsung T5 SSD which comes with a USB-C to USB-C 3.1 Gen2 (?) cable, so I thought, I'm gonna use that instead. What could go wrong, right? Well apparently it's not so simple, because every time I plug the phone to the PC with the USB-C2C cable, the phone freezes for a second, then shuts down and reboots immediately, and a HP popup window shows up on the laptop, saying that "this charging adapter is not compatible with this computer". I know it's a ridiculous issue, but like, it pisses me off and makes me worried about potential damage to the phone. My smartphone clearly is not a charging adapter and I don't want it to charge stuff it's connected to! Or at least not unless I specifically allow it to do that! Has anybody encountered this issue? Do you have any idea about which settings I should change to make this behaviour go away? Or am I just SOL and destined to use legacy ports for the remainder of my life? *ridiculously, plugging the original charger to a USB-C hub results in the laptop throwing a "HP recommends an original charger" popup, while the 3rd party 60W charger with a 4th party magnetic-tip USB-C cable gets a pass...

I'm looking to get a new 34 inch monitor, and narrowed it down to either the Dell U3419W (which is more productivity-centric) vs X34 / AW3418DW (which is better for gaming; high refresh rates etc..) I can't make up my mind because of the advantages that each offer. The Dell offers very good color reproduction. I would know, because I own a separate 24 inch monitor from their Ultrasharp range. It also has a USB-C port which would be good for display mirroring using a laptop. However, it doesn't have those bells and whistles like high refresh rates etc., which I would really like to get. On the other hand, the more gaming-centric kinds offer much higher refresh rates, which I would really like to see and feel the difference of. So, my questions are the following. 1) How does the color reproduction and vibrancy look on gaming monitors as compared to monitors meant for productivity? 2) I have actually done a bit of research, and it seems that you don't actually need to have a USB Type-C port on the back of the monitor to mirror the laptop and provide power delivery. I thought that USB-C was my only choice, but it seems that one can also use the DisplayPort over USB-C technology, which also provides power as well. Does this effectively mean that I can use DisplayPort instead of USB-C, which is harder to find on monitors? 3) Are there any downsides to using DisplayPort over USB-C as compared to USB-C? I read around and there was a Quora post that mentioned that if you use DisplayPort over USB-C, you lose functionality of the port in terms of transferring data? How does this work? Finally, if it turns out that a gaming monitor can do all of these, which gaming monitor would you guys recommend? The AW and Predator ones are definitely 2 of the most popular, but I would be open to other recommendations. Preferably one with PiP, as I see myself using the monitor as a split screen for 2 different systems. (I think they call it Dual Linkup / Dual Controller on the LG systems). Sorry for so many questions, really hope someone can answer all of them!

So I have been curious about what charging speeds are supported by the iPhone. I know that in order to “Fast Charge” the iPhone you need a Lightning to USB-C cable and a power brick that supports USB-PD. What I’m curious about is what is the maximum charging speed allowed for a standard USB-A connection. I have an Anker 24W, 2 Port USB-A charger. Does this mean if I have one iPhone plugged in, it will charge at 5V 4.8A or it will charge at 5V 2.4A and the 24W is just so that it can power 2 devices at 5V 2.4A? I also heard about how some Android devices use 12V for “Fast Charging” and would this charger support that? It had PowerIQ but I’m not sure what that does for me. Any info is appreciated ?
