First up, I'm not very forum experienced, so if the topic is in the wrong place or something else isn't right, feel free to inform me of that. To my question, all I generally want to know is, whether I can use a Thunderbolt connection as an ethernet connection. I have a practical example: I own a 13" Asus 2-in-1 that has two Thunderbolt 3 ports. I'm currently thinking about building a SFF computer using a MSI Z590I Unify mainboard which has two Thunderbolt 4 ports. If I could connect the two computers over a Thunderbolt cable and have them establish an Ethernet connection somehow then I could use the laptop as a screen and keyboard for the computer (using Spacedesk) whenever I am not at home, meaning I would only need to carry the computer itself, a power cable for it, the laptop which I have with me most of the time anyway and a mouse which is even optional. It would make for a super sleak setup because the computer could charge the laptop and I wouldn't need to bother with USB-C to RJ45 adapters and ethernet cables and maybe I could even make use of the fast Thunderbolt connection.

Hi, I just wanna ask if any of you have done similar daisy chaining connection: Currently I have one Samsung s34j55x (21:9 1440p) display I wanna buy two additional 1440p 16:9 displays with usb-c (like Dell P2720DC or LS27A600UUUXEN) All of them are max 75Hz, and using yours calculator: total bandwidth of displayport 1.2 wont be enough, it will require at least displayport 1.3. Unfortunately the spec of both of the displays says that they support displayport 1.2. These displays are quite new and I really dont believe that displayport 1.2 is their max version. The second question is: will usb-c port of my Dell Latitude 5480 be able to push displayport 1.3+ signal to any of those 2 monitors? Its displayport capable port but also version 1.2 according to spec. Have any of you had any experience in similar setup?

I'm contemplating a setup where I have my computer in the basement and connect the display and peripherals via a Thunderbolt (or just plain USB-C) over fiber connection (like the one in https://youtu.be/Dy312cUHumk). The problem I have is that most desktops do not come with a USB-C port and if they did it, they may not be able to carry video. Some video cards have a USB-C output, but I am unsure whether mouse&keyboards connected to it will work out of the box (may need drivers, may not work during boot). In short, my wishlist is: - USB-C/Thunderbolt port on desktop -or- some other adapter that can carry video and USB, but must be over fiber - able to carry video, at least 4k 60Hz - supports mouse&keyboard including in BIOS and all stages of boot (e.g. in Grub) - supports all features on Linux with and without proprietary drivers - should support audio (possible via the display, although in the worst case I could do with an USB adapter) What hardware would you recommend to support this scenario? PS: I found this reference https://dancharblog.wordpress.com/2020/07/20/add-usb-c-with-dp-alt-mode-to-your-desktop-pc/ but it doesn't answer my questions.

would an adapter going from USB-C to HDMI send more power to a projector or tv than going from HDMI to HDMI? Another question right now to work a projector we are going from HDMI on the computer to VGA connected to the projector. Every so often the connection is lost due to the VGA cable being a little too long, I've lowered the resolution and refresh rate which has helped but is there a was to improve the signal without having to install repeaters or would that be my best option?

Hello! Looking for help regarding a Huawei P20 Pro please. How can I charge and have a cable-USB mouse connected to this device at the same time. It doesn't seem to accept both at the same time. I tried using this splitter USB C Splitter . It only accepts one or the other. When mouse and charger are plugged in, none works. I don't know if this has anything to do with the Android 10 OS, not being able to protocol being charged and reverse charging a mouse at the same time. Any advice & help would be appreciated! Tx!

Hi all, I cannot get my display over USB-C working. Some background: I've got myself a shiny (second hand new) Dell XPS 15 7590. I'm coming from a Dell XPS 15 9560, which was fine untill I trashed it with coffee. I have a Gigabyte M27F display with KVM switch; DP is connected to gaming rig, USB-C is connected to work laptop. This was awesome with my previous laptop; plug in usb C for work, unplug it for gaming, one keyboard and mouse to rule them all. So, I just swapped laptops, kept all the cables the same, but cannot get the display over USB-C working. It worked so well with the previous Dell. (HDMI output works fine tough, so I don't think it's a GPU hardware issue, good assumption?) The laptop charges over it, accepts the KB and mouse, and everything seems to work, but the screen stays black and says "No-signal". Even in windows: the screen is there both in widows Display settings and in the Intel Graphics Command centre. Refresh rate was set to 59, changing this does not seem to impact it. There are no other options as far as I can see. I think I've got all drivers up to date. Got the Geforce experience, did the Dell update, and the Intel Driver support assistant. Even via the windows control panel I tried updating drivers. (This actually rolls back the intel driver, which Intel Driver support assistant then wants to update agian.) Today I tried at work with one of those Dell USB-C docking stations, and with a Dell U2721DE. These both worked just fine! Why? How? I don't understand. Is there any additional info I can help you out with? So you can help me out... I will bake you a cookie if you can help me! Cheers, Me

I am looking for an USB hub with Card Reader, USB-A and USB-C connectors but as far as my searching go I found only the overpriced low-profile docks for laptops. I want it for my desktop pc on my ...well.. desk to have quick access to those 3 types of ports Anyone know about this kind of hub? Seems like there is not single one All are Full USB, or Card+USB-A but not all three.

Hello there, I currently own a Dell XPS 17 9700 and will be sending my laptop back to Dell for some repairs - i.e., dead pixels. Before I send it to Dell, though, I was advised by their customer service to backup all my files on my XPS 17 just in case something happens while they do repairs. While I wouldn't purchase a backup drive just for the sole purpose of having all my files safe while it receives repairs, I thought it'd be nice to have a backup drive, anyways. Thus, I purchased a 2 TB LaCie Rugged USB-C external drive for backup. Now, while the internal storage drive on my laptop only maxes out at 1 TB and that I'm only using half of it's storage, I'd assume that a 2 TB backup drive may seem unnecessary for my case, though, I just wanted to be safe. My main concern is that if anything does happen while it's repaired, and that all my files on my PC do get lost, I basically want to make an identical copy of my PC saved on this drive - i.e., all my applications, video games, everything. Put it this way, too, in the case that I do loose all my files, I'll just want to plug this backup drive into my computer, and after restoring the files, my computer will look just like it did before I sent it back (I hope you know what I mean). I'm not sure if I've done this already, though it only seems like Windows, documents, and other background stuff (i.e., display software, Dell bloatware, idk, other stuff, too) have been saved to the drive. In that, while this drive claims it has 1.8 TB out of 1.8 TB of storage capacity available, I use 472 GB of storage on my XPS - albeit, most are games - and I've completed a backup to this LaCie drive twice now. Maybe it's the fact that most of the games downloaded on my computer are from Steam, and that there's probably something blocking me from copying my data to this drive so that users don't copy games onto other people's computers so others don't have to pay for them, but I'm concerned about my save files getting lost. It's also vital that I get this resolved soon because the dead pixels on my display have been bugging me for the past couple months, and the reason I didn't do this sooner was because I needed my laptop throughout my fall semester of college. In addition, I'll only have 3 and a half weeks of break before enrolling into the next semester, and Dell predicts that this repair process can take about 5 business days or more (i.e., 1 to 2 weeks; from when I ship my computer to Dell, to the day I receive it back). This community has helped me so much thus far, from helping me decide on a laptop and monitor, to making me a bit more "tech-savvy" than the average consumer (at least, that's what my friends tell me), and to introducing me to the wonderous world of Windows computing. So, I really hope you folks can help me out on this one.

I recently got the Gigabyte M27Q monitor which works fine when connected to my PC by HDMI but when trying to connect it to my laptop (Asus Viviobook n580vd) by the usb c port it doesn't work. When I plug the usb c port into my laptop I get an error message on my main pc "display connection might be limited" On my laptop if I look at the usb c device under device manager it says "port reset failed" when opening the properties I get an error message "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43) A USB port reset request failed." To troubleshoot I have tried 2 different cables, checked the usb c port on my laptop works by using a hdmi to usb c cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I forgot my charger at home, so i went looking for alternative ways to charge my laptop. Lets get to the problem.. I got a bright idea: My phone can charge from USB-C cant laptops aswell? i quickly googled: HP Laptops can chargw from USB-C, i tried and it worked. But only when 100% powered off, After POST (After leaving the bios) it would stop charging. This problem is only with USB-C, But i havent tried with the standard AC as i forgot it at home. But then it stopped charging from USB-C after running out of battery after one charge. i began googling found it can blow capitors in the pc with low-wattage usb-c, But then i found HP says its fine: https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/tech-takes/3-different-ways-to-charge-laptop-without-charger TLDR: Is it bad to charge hp probook g7 with a low wattage USB-C (can i blow the capitors)? or is hp correct or did hp mean that i needed a power brick? https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/tech-takes/3-different-ways-to-charge-laptop-without-charger

Hey guys! Just today, I started getting this bizarre issue that I can’t seem to understand where it is coming from. So I have a laptop, the 2021 g14 zephyrus. Up until today, I have been using a leftover dongle I have, using it to connect it to the usb-c port on the g14 and plug my ethernet cable, as wifi and csgo don’t go so well. It was all running flawlessly for months now. Earlier today I launched the laptop as usual, went to youtube and that’s when I noticed - at a very random time interval, you’d hear the very familiar sound windows makes when you disconnect a usb and then the ethernet is gone… a minute later, or some seconds, 10-15-20 sec later boom it’s back. Without me moving a finger. So since its a laptop, I made sure that windows doesn’t shut down usbs to save power (but why would it do that now anyway, it was working fine just last night); I tried to re-install the ethernet adapter, re-install basically anything i can get my hands on - no luck, nada, issue goes on. In a blind rage I completely formatted the life out of this laptop and reinstalled Windows. It was fine the first two hours, really. Then out of nowhere — this issue reappeared. I give up guys, I have no idea even where to begin troubleshooting. I suspect a windows update partially, but not sure. Tried the dongle on my MacBook - no issues at there, so I doubt its the dongle. Can you possibly help or advise, I’m pulling my hairs out. Thank you so much for reading through this!

One big problem with the 13" M1 MacBook Air (and Pro) is that it only has 2x USB-C ports. Therefore, I'm looking to maximize the use of these ports. I'm considering the LG 27UL850-W monitor, since it has built-in power delivery to charge the MacBook, and also a built-in USB hub. Here are my questions for you monitor experts out there: Will the USB hub on this monitor be able to operate on full USB 3-speed or will it be as slow as USB 2? Is this monitor good for color accurate work like film editing? (My budget is around $500 for those who are curious) I do really wholeheartedly appreciate all the help!

Hello! So, I just got a HomePod mini and were planning to power it through the ''USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C'' port on my motherboard but it is unfortunately not working... I had originally thought the port would be able to provide up to 100W but when searching more for it on the internet, I seem to get some conflicting results about how much power it can provide. Does anyone know how much power a ''USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C'' port can provide? The HomePod Mini is working with the included 20W power brick and my 18W power bank so there is nothing wrong with it. It could also be something with Windows potentially? Because, when I plug it in, the HomePod Mini shows up in device manager as two ''other devices'' so maybe there is something you need to do with those to get power delivered properly? Any help or feedback is appreciated! Thanks for taking your time reading this.

Hi, Just recently got the Razer Barracuda X a few days ago and I can't get it to work properly. The headphones itself are fine, the audio quality is there when using aux but it just won't connect using the usb-c dongle (if that's how you spell it). I've tried all different way to get it to work. I've tried to download drivers that could be missing and tried to use every different port on my pc but with no luck. Does anyone else have this issue with there Razer Barracuda X or did I already break something? Also want to mention it did fall out of the box when I was opening it all up but no way did that cause it to break right? wasn't the high of a drop either any help with this is much appreciated :)

random question. Would I be able to link my MacBook Air to a pc via the usb-c? I know you can't do it with older USB but I think usb-c is bidirectional which makes me think that they might be able to connect two computers together. I don't understand that much about usb-c/thunderbolt.

I was dumb enough to fall for this, I feel scammed. Cant find ANY use for a USB-C with no thunderbolt. Its 3.1 Gen 2. Cool speeds but what for? A fast usb hub? Who cares? What can I use this for? Google only tells me about the difference between T3 and USB-C which I now know.

I have two MSI based PC's, one with MAG X570 Tomahawk and the other with MPG Gaming Edge B550i. They both work fine except none of the USB-C ports on either motherboard work. I have a USB tester and none of the USB-C ports provide any power. None. Nada. Zilch. Note: This doesn't appear to be the 'intermittent USB disconnect' issue that AMD motherboard owners are reporting. I can't get connected at all with my USB-C ports. USB-A ports work fine. Note that I can't get a USB-C peripheral to connect in the BIOS (using the 'Board Explorer'), under Windows 10, or under Linux. MSI tech support chat was useless. I got "RMA the board. <hangup>". So, any ideas? I've tried everything except burning the Beta AGESA 1.2.0.2 BIOS. I'll do that eventually once its out of Beta but for now I'm exploring other solutions. Thanks.

I recently purchased a laptop, The Asus Laptop 15 X515JA. I needed the extra ports provided when using a usb-c hub with the laptop. Upon trying to use a usb-c hub. It showed up with error that the device is not recognized. The usb-c hub's ports behaved as followed The usb 3.1 ports only ran at usb 2 . The HDMI port just didn't work at all. The ethernet worked. I tested with another hub and got the same results. I updated the drivers in device manager and that still did no solve my issue.

I am at the verge of purchasing an iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd Generation) 2018; because I know the 2020 model doesn't have many significant upgrades in addition to price. However, I had some concerns pertaining to its I/O V.S. the iPad Pro 2020. I am a University Student and purchasing for note-taking (Notability and with Apple Pencil), media consumption and occasional video editing (LumaFusion). I came across this USB-C Hub (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M8QR83T/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_5?smid=ALKJOI57VEXOD&psc=1) and wanted to know if the iPad Pro 2018 has I/O restrictions as opposed to the iPad Pro 2020. With this hub, would I really be able to connect an ethernet, HDMI, mouse, keyboard, HDD and 3.5mm audio jack simultaneously? Would all components function in the iPad Pro 2018?

Hey guys, thanks in advance for any help. So I bought this Dell G3 3590 about a month ago and ever since I first used it, I have been experiencing problems when connecting anything via USB-C to it. When I plug my phone to use it with Dex, it almost never works, and when I tried to connect an iPad via the USB-C port, it also just charges it, with no connection appearing on Windows (everything works just fine via the USB-A ports, though). Also, even when I plugged a USB-C headset, it kinda worked (audio was normal but the mic wouldn't record) but showed "not enough USB controller resoures", even though it was the only thing connected. In device manager, it shows as "Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)". I have tried the BIOS, as well as updating all the drivers, but no luck so far. Don't know if it is an issue on Windows 10 v. 2004 or some kind of interference between it and some Dell or Nvidia driver.
