Hey there ! I'm sorry I'm sure such a thing has already been recommended millions of times, but I just can't find it. My PC has had this problem where everytime I plug something USB that is a bit power hungry (VR Headset, Hard drive) it just immediately turns off. It did that and now 2 days ago it just turned off while I was playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 while watching a video in PiP. I need to make sure my power supply is my problem here, but for that I'd need a software that reads all my hardware's date, like HWMonitor does but constently saves everything to a log file so that I can see what went on. Where can I find such a piece of software ? Thanks !!

Hi all, I have a question. In my brain it should work, but idk if the cables would handle it. We have 2 phones with an inconvenient place for power outlet, that's why we use laptop chargers. We both have 65W charging phones. My idea is a 130W Dell usb-c laptop charger with a splitter on the end to charge both phones. Would this work? Thanks in advance!

I bought a USB 3.0 around 5 years ago, I had a entry level laptop at that time and then I got the change to upgrade my computer to a better one and I decided to use the USB to transfer my most important files and when I was transferring my files from the old laptop to the USB, my computer got stacked in the process and I wait for around 30 minutes to see if the transferring continue but it did not. all the computer was stacked and I couldn't even turn it off so I just unplugged the USB and manually turned off the laptop afterwards. Then I connected the USB to the new computer and everything seemed ok, the files that I care the most were there and others less important did not transfer to the usb. I started to transfer the files to my new pc but during the process it got stacked and then the USB stopped responding and then it disconnected by itself. I tried again a few times but the outcome was always the same, it stopped responding and eventually it disconnects. I was able to navigate through the folders and see the all files without any problem but when I specifically go to one folder it always stopped responding and eventually disconnects. With the time it got only worse. Now I cannot even see the files on my usb because as soon as I connected the file explorer stops working and it doesn't even let me see the files anymore. It always appears for a few seconds on my pc and then it disconnects. It doesn't even show me how much storage space is being used. Is there a way I can fix the usb without losing any data or formatting the usb? Is there a software or tool that I could use to finally recover those files? Thank you so much in advance for the help.

So I have a flash drive ( I do not remember what was on it) and I would like to format it so that I could install OS. However, it doesn't show up in windows`s file manager. When I tried to find it in disk manager, which I was able to do, I found out that it can't be formated. What do I do?

Hello all, So I recently got an MSI RX 6600 XT and a 760 watt PSU for my build. I realized that my current rig was bot compatible due to the motherboard and the PSU in that (it was meant for servers). So I switched to my first rig with a normal motherboard and just swapped out the hardware. Everything is pulled in and working...except the USB ports. I can't set up the computer without my keyboard, which is USB. I have tried every USB port on my computer and not a single one worked. Any suggestions/fixes? I've attached 2 pics of where I think the problem may be at.

Hello, Can someone suggest a good brand for USB-C to USB-Micro-B. I am working on improving my work backup server and need a new cable that I can plug in to the computer my boss bought.

For a while now I have been struggling with strange USB dropouts; ranging from my keyboard no longer functioning to sometimes every USB port dropping out including the USB headers. I am not using any hubs either. This problem happens at a roll of a die, but usually happens at start up and usually if there is no activity to the impacted device (this tends to be my keyboard most times; so if I don't touch my keyboard then this issue happens). The total USB disconnect has only happened twice but still has happened more times than it should. When it does happen; it's as if both power and data have been disconnected and reconnected however nothing happens on screen and the computer seems to work as intended; not even Event Viewer will register the event. When it's only the keyboard or mouse; the power is still going to them (they are RGB devices so they still light up), but the animation to the RGB freezes until I disconnect the device and plug it back in. Now more recently, as this part is an update of sorts to the previous paragraph, using Mega to sync files from an external drive to the cloud; will cause a complete mass disconnect with all USB drives AND the onboard Bluetooth module gets disconnected. I have had the ethernet port drop out twice as well. Everything points to the motherboard, but it was doing this with the previous board as well (as I have RMAed this board before with them sending me a new one in exchange). Some forums suggest it's the z690 chipset as it is happening on Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte (so not just one specific manufacturer). Others suggest it could be a PSU or RAM issue, but after testing RAM it then doesn't seem to be the case and power doesn't seem to be the issue either as there are plenty of times the system works perfectly fine with everything connected and can last for a few days to a couple of weeks like this even under heavy usage. Update: I have done more research and have found the issue leads to an error message via Reliability Monitor: Received a "Live Kernel Event" code 144: LKD_0x144_CONTEXT_ERROR_AFTER_STALL_RESET_EP_USBXHCI!TelemetryData_CreateReport_VEN_8086_DEV_7ae0_REV_0011 This error seems to relate to the USB3.2 eXtensible Host Controller 1.20 (Microsoft). Hi all, I have a pretty weird issue with my Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro board. If I have a big USB 3 hub connected to one of the USB 3 ports, specifically a 10-port hub that has 3 hub chips in it, then my 4 rear USB 2.0 ports will not work before an OS loads. This means I cannot enter BIOS settings or boot selector by mashing keys on boot. A 7-port hub (has 2 hub chips) is fine, a 7-port hub connected to a 4-port hub connected to the PC will cause the issue. Once in an OS, all USB ports will start working. Am I running into some sort of limitation? Anyone has ideas how to fix/workaround this? Thanks in advance.

Hey, I've been having issues for a while when it comes to installing Ubuntu, Raspberry Pi OS, Kali Linux, etc. and I'm starting to think that it's my computer's BIOS that is restricting it, but this is my first time installing an OS of any kind on another PC so I really have no clue. Every time I am able to boot into GRUB and such, but for some reason it doesn't continue from there. At some points (when loading from ISO) it gives me "GRUB loading. Welcome to GRUB!" while it also gives me just "GRUB" when loading from DD (all from Rufus terminology). USB: SanDisk Ultra 3.0 128gb PC (installing Ubuntu on): Old Dell from 2007 or something (idk the model) ... 32 bit, Intel CPU, 256gb HDD, 2gb DDR2 SDRAM, BIOS: Dell BIOS 1.0.15 Disk Imager: Rufus, Raspberry Pi Imager, balenaEtcher Here's what I've tried (from tutorials and StackOverflow, etc.): - Switching USB ports - Formatting the HDD in the system - Trying different file formats on the USB - Using different OS's - Testing each on Oracle VirtualBox (they work, perfectly) So this led me to believe there was some sort of setting in my BIOS (Dell BIOS 1.0.15) that is not letting me continue to booting into Ubuntu. Please help :)

Useful Information: Laptop Model: Razer Blade 15" Base (2020) — RZ09-03519 CPU: i7-10750H GPU: GTX 1660ti Memory: 2x8GB stock memory Laptop Spec. Page: https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3919/ BIOS Version: Aptio 2.21.1278 Operating System: 64 bit — Windows 11, Dev. Insider Build 25163.rs_prerelease.220715-1711 / Ubuntu 20.04 LTS When the laptop starts up, the built in keyboard is not functional. I am not able to open BIOS or interact with GRUB in order to boot to my Linux installation. I was able to get to BIOS via Windows troubleshooting options, but I can't interact with it at all, so I don't know of a way to boot to some other medium (even if that would make a difference). When I try plugging in any USB devices I can think of (mouse, keyboard, USB drive, etc.) they do not work, and sometimes display error messages saying they are not recognized, in addition to adding error messages to the device manager which go away after I uninstall the USB Devices and re-add them, but they simply reappear when I try to plug in a new device. Strangely, the touchpad is still functional, which is the only way I can navigate the computer (to some degree). I do not imagine that drivers could be a problem since the keyboard doesn't work in the BIOS or boot screens either, but I tried updating drivers and from what I can tell they all appear to be up to date. I also attempted uninstalling HID and USB devices in device manager. If there's anything else I can try (with drivers or otherwise), I'd be happy to try it.

I have a Dell Latitude 3420 laptop and I want to perform a clean install of Windows 10 on it. But it turns out that if I have a USB stick plugged in, it wouldn't start to windows and if I try to open the BIOS it be will stuck at loading and will only go in the BIOS once I remove the USB stick from the laptop. However, when I access the BIOS from Windows using the advanced options with the USB plugged it opens up the BIOS but the USB are not in the Boot Menu. The laptop is a UEFI only and Legacy mode is not supported. I tried multiple fixes for this including using Rufus, trying different USB slots, disabling secure boot, converting RAID 0 to ASCI. But still could not fix it. I also tried the USB to other PC's and it does show up in the boot menu of others.

Prolly not the right area to put this topic but i wasn't able to find a section for cables. I am looking to buy some usb extension cables that don't have plastic on the female end so it can be mounted inside of a housing of my monitor arm. It has space for 2 usb ports to be added or not. like so So, my question, is there a name for these ends on the usb?, i mean all i see is like this and i can't use them, This is how they are mounted in the arm that i have, mine only has 2 but this is just an example.

Does anyone know what USB card Linus uses for his VR set up. I know that he has a usb pcie card where each usb port on that card has is own usb controller. I am looking to get the same one (or one similar). I play VR and I am having problems with my motion tracking (I have a Rift). My PC is not great. I have a 3080 (12 gb vram) and I have an AMD cpu (Phenom II X6 1100T) with 24 gb of ram. Its not great by any means. I can only play about 30 mins to an hour before Steam VR crashes because Oculus lost connection with my headset for whatever reason. I also have issues with the motion tracking where it says there is poor tracking quality where both trackers are plugged into USB 3.0 ports on my computer. I am getting a new computer from my parents once my sister has finished building my new desk. I want to try and do VR the right way from day one so I can enjoy VR and not get frustrated everytime I play. Thank you all in advance.

Alright, so you know how most routers have a USB port that most people who use it use it for printers, NAS use with flash drives and external hard drives, and LTE connectivity. Considering that wireless routers with 2.5Gb ports cost so much, and with the knowledge even the slowest USB 3.0 ports are 5gbps, why haven't more people used their router's USB ports for plugging in 2.5Gbe and 5Gbe adapters? (my best guess would be that it wouldn't be directly connected to the switch chip) Hell it's to the point where I couldn't find any discussions or even pictures of the practice online.

Hi, Recently, I got new headphones that are yet to be delivered. Steelseries Arctis 7+. One thing about them is that their wireless dongle is type-C. The problem I have is that neither my case nor my motherboard have a type-C female port. I plan to use these headphones with an OTG connector, USB type C female to type A male connector for the wireless dongle. I understand this is not the optimal way to use them but my real question is wether this will cause any problems such as input lag and audio signal loss since these are wireless headphones. My primary use is gaming and video editing. I have also had some plans to update my PC case, now I'm specifically looking for one that has a type C front panel port. Would using an OTG be just as good or should I make the case switch as soon as I can? Any help is appreciated. My motherboard: Gigabyte B550 gaming X Thanks!

I run multiple Software Defined Radios on my computer and I would like to use a dedicated PCIe USB card for them so they can get consistent power and data throughput. Just like an audiophile wants expensive Japanese electronic components in their amplifiers, I want my PCIe USB card to be high end as well. My PC has a PCIe Gen2 x16 slot and a PCIe Gen1 x4 slot available for use. must have At least 4 USB ports (USB 3.0 or higher), and rock solid power delivery (not like Quick Charge or USB PD, just high end components, I guess? All of this is so important because the Software Defined Radios decode multiple P25 Digital Trunked Radio Systems 24/7 and rock solid stability is important, any power spikes, inconsistent power, poor quality components, all increase the chance of decoding errors.

Hey guys, Having infrequent intermittent signal loss when using an RTX 2070 Super, an LG CX, and a 5m Ruipro gen 3 Hdmi 2.1 AOC cable. I know 5m is really pushing it for 2.1, but unfortunately I'm entirely restricted by distance. My actual question is: would plugging the included 5V USB power inserter (injector) that comes with the Ruipro cable be okay to use with my GPU? Want to give it a go, but I've not found any definitive answers online as to whether it would damage the GPU. Any help is much appreciated!

I am mainly a macOS user but I have a desktop with Windows that I occasionally use. Now I wanted to try Linux and decided to install Arch on a thumb drive using the GUI Installer. Everything went well. I managed to boot on the iso thumb drive and then I went ahead and selected another thumb drive for the installation. In the beginning it went very quick but it is stuck on the boot loader for hours now. Is that normal or is something wrong? Thank you very much for you help already :)

Hello, I just came across this abomination and it would be nice if a "proper" Tech channel could take this and correct some things. There is much more wrong than I stated in my comment but I think it shows my point. My comment to this: "didn't suspect a thing" besides the whole camera RIG and lights in front him. This is some next level reality TV sh*t. OKok... wth! 7:21 onwards: replace "these devices" with "firearms". What do you think now about these arguments? "Law enforcement can use this to spy on predators and criminals." IF, law enforcement already identified them as such well, the need is not that high anymore - but ok. And IF NOT: well then it is for multiple very good reasons ILLEGAL! What is this video??? I expected you to show how a "normal" person should defend himself against such things. Not using the cable inside CAB for example or use Androids usb connection settings. But this is horrible and very dangerous product advertisement!

My new employer sent me a monitor and laptop (Dell Latitude 5520) with a USB-c dock (Dell WD19S), While this is awesome and all, I new have 3-1080p monitors and 4 USB devices that need to be switched between my desktop and my new laptop. I would rather not have to every day switch each device manually. My Desktop has a RTX 2080ti and I was able to get the dock to do USB and one DisplayPort over its USB-C port, but that's it. I can work off of one monitor for now but in the future I would like to switch all 3 between the desktop and the laptop. If I end up buying anything, I don't want to break the bank either since this is only a summer internship. If you have any suggestions please let me know!
