Hello Linus Tech Community! Well, it's been about a full year since I had my computer built, and I think it's time for an upgrade. I am going to put a link to my current build first, and then four upgrade paths I would like advice on. A optional fifth upgrade path may be submitted, but I would like to stick with the four I provide. Don't think I won't consider your fifth option though! Everyone was very helpful when I first bought my parts and I thank each and everyone that helped me make my decisions! The reason I'm upgrading? I find that my computer is lacking a little in the VR department, I mean, it CAN play games, but I notice stutter from time to time, and a few times the frames don't want to keep up. Besides, a year has passed, and new tech has come out, so I want to keep up with tech, at least a little. Preferred vender is ASUS, but will look at others upon referral. No AMD! I am Team Blue and Green. I have nothing against AMD, I just think Intel and Nvidia are better. So without further delay, let's get into it! Current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/GoldForest/saved/jg6hMp Upgrade path 1: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/GoldForest/saved/GDLkLk I chose the 6850K because it has a higher clock speed than the 6800K 64 gigs of ram because I like to have a lot of mods, A lot. Upgrade to the storage Two 1080s so it can handle any VR game that gets thrown at it. More powah! Bluray player so I can watch movies And the Peripherals because I like them. Upgrade path 2: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/GoldForest/saved/bfWZLk Same 6850K Upgraded motherboard Two 1080 TIs instead of the non TIs, when they come out that is. Upgrade path 3: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/GoldForest/saved/JHHxrH What I consider a downgrade to the Z170 platform, but I know that the 6700K's speed will more than make up for the loss of two cores, would love to have those two extra cores though, for extra computing power in other applications. Z170 Motherboard to go with the change in CPU socket Two 1080s Upgrade path 4: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/GoldForest/saved/wX6hMp Same as 3, but 1080 TIs instead on nons. Any and all advice welcome! These upgrades won't be all at once, it will be pick and choose when I get money, so if you want to suggest a product that's not out yet, please do, and I will look into it. P.S. I am considering two 1070s instead of two 1080s, or 80 TIs, but I'm leaning towards the TIs.

So I was just wondering what you guys thought I should upgrade. Comp Specs: G3258 @4.6Ghz (will higher when my cooler comes in the mail, using stock rn) EVGA GTX 750ti (the basic mini one, not sc, and not ftw) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7BB34G5883&cm_re=gtx_750ti-_-14-487-025-_-Product H81-P33 Motherboard (just putting this here since there is conflicting reports on where or not it can overclock a i5 4690k, etc. Currently run dual 1080p monitors (only game on one though, adding just incase it would still affect the 3GB on something like a GTX 1060 3GB) Blah stuff that doesnt matter So for Christmas I plan to choose something under $300CAD. Im currently looking at the Zotac GTX 1060 3GB or looking at something like the i5 4690k or the new Zen CPUs if they come out before Christmas. Games I Play: Arma 3 Overwatch Black Desert Online Space Engineers So if you just wanna say upgrade GPU or CPU please do so, If you would even like to recommend me a new GPU or CPU (haswell plz, cuz mobo) thanks. Just remember CAD not USD too many times that was messed up.

Hi I could really use some help on deciding on what to upgrade my GPU to, currently have a ASUS GTX 750ti, but I now have $260/£200 to spend on upgrading, and I already upgraded my CPU to a i5-6500 I'm not a huge "gamer", and I don't play a lot of Fps heavy titles, most consuming I'd play are Rust and GTAV I went through some sites, looking around for brand new ones, and I've been looking these cards : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00SKWIISQ/ref=ox_sc_act_image_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B012G7VCGU/ref=ox_sc_act_image_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00UHHXXH8/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE#nav-search-keywords And https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01KHWOB78/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE But I just can't decide if I want 2,3 or 4 GBs, if I want a 1060 or 960, or if I should even go this high Thanks

Good day, I am looking to upgrade my GPU ( Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 OC - GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 Graphics Card - 2GB ) in the near future. I paid $191.21 for it and would like some advice on a newer (it doesn't have to be the NEWEST on the market) GPU's with the same price range and specs (maybe a little better) with the budget of $200 AND how much can I resell it for - I bought it 19 May 2014 and have done no overclocking or changes to it. Thank you.

Hello, I want to upgrade my current PC in order to play games such as GTA V Witcher 3 and all the A titles in general. I can see that my PC is falling behind and I really want to upgrade but I'm on a tight budget. I am at around 500 GBP (English pounds) can go up to 600 bu that's max. I know I need a new CPU and GPU, I might need to change the PSU as well for the new card. also I need a recommendation for a really good looking monitor, the one I got now sucks. Anyway here is my current build : http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/pYGt3F

Hey guys! I am currently looking into upgrading my gpu in order to get some better frame rates in games, but I have some concerns. I was just wondering what you guys think would be the best graphics card I could get with my current build in order to maximize performance without being bottle necked by the rest of my components. Or it is possible for me to upgrade my cpu with my current setup so that I could handle a better gpu such as a gtx 1070? (im pretty much just trying to avoid buying a new computer) Click here for my build Thanks, - Andrew

My current computer components are as follow - Mobo : MSI 970A-G46 CPU : AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6 core 3.5GHz GPU : ASUS GTX 750ti RAM : Corsair Vengence 16gb ddr3 1600 I am looking to take these parts and maybe put them into another computer later on and upgrade the one in use now. I have a budget of around $600 - $800 for new parts. I would prefer Intel components as well. Thank you!

Hi there, pc masters A while back I got my first pc form my grandpa, he used to use it for video editing(so not your average grandpa pc) But it has been 5 years or so since it has been build and the Gpu isn't keeping up with current games. So I'm planning a upgrade, here is the pc:http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Willem_Me/saved/fjtxFT (the ram has been upgraded lately from 4 to 16, dads choice) I'm planning on getting a RX 480 8gb (No board manufacturer yet) my question now is how much will my CPU + MoBo bottleneck it, to much? And do I need to upgrade my CPU and MoBo now with the gpu or can I what and save some money and buy it with in a year. my budget is around 600 € = 670 $ so, -will my mobo bottleneck a RX480 8gb, how much, to much? -can I only upgrade my gpu and wait a bit with cpu + mobo, and if ddr3 or ddr4? Thank you very much, and have a nice day. A dutch starter pc master.

I purchased a pre built pc back in February for $500NZ. This pc had an AMD A8-7600 quad core APU on an asrock fm2a68m-hd+ motherboard, 8gb of DDR3 ram, a 400W power supply, a 1tb harddrive, and a coolermaster n200 case. How would I go about upgrading this PC with a $300NZ budget?

Hello everyone (: I'm thinking of upgrading my display monitor, currently I'm using dual 23" monitors (both of these monitors are by Samsung). My daily uses of my PC are audio editing (using softwares like Cubase, Ableton and etc...) and gaming (not competitive gaming, right now I'm playing Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid 5, Star Citizen and etc...). I thought of purchasing 34" but in my country the costs is too freaking high... so I went down to 29" but I'm afraid it'll be too small for using split screen. Models I considered: Samsung S29E790C, LG 29UC88 or Dell ultrasharp u2913wm (rather not because it has 8ms response time..) - I don't really care about the speakers, I have audio monitors by Tannoy and most of the time using headphones. Any thoughts? something I was missing? Please lend me your wisdom and guide me to the right display! (:

I want to upgrade my PC, which is a HP Pavilion 500-326na, with a new gtx 970 and a EVGA 600w power supply. I'm not sure if all my parts are compatible and I'm wondering if this is possible. Thanks in advance for any help

I am a college student and I have a laptop (acting as a desktop) and a gaming tower. My "desktop" is running win 7 and my school is running win 7. My gaming tower is running win 10. I am thinking strongly about migrating everything over to my gaming tower and make it my home pc (I have a macbook air to take with me on campus). What problems (if any) am I going to be facing when it comes to using a school computer or emailing certain files/docs to my instructors, as well as migrating everything to my gaming tower. I am nervous as I adore Win 7 and hate to leave it but it is getting very expensive and hard to find at a decent price. Thank you in advance.

Hello, My name is Ethan, and I purchased an Asus M32AD about a year ago. Here are the specs: Power Supply: 350W CPU Cooler: Stock, I think Storage: Toshiba 1TB 7200RPM HDD Memory: Samsung 12GB (8+4) DDR3-1600 Video Card: Asus Radeon R7 240 2GB Motherboard: Asus H81M-E CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz 4-Core I have also moved everything into an NZXT H440 to make room for future upgrades. I have already put together a new partslist for future upgrades here: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/KingShoga/saved/27xhP6. I'm actually looking at an Aerocool VX700W PSU but PCPartPicker did not list that as an option so it says NZXT Vale. I know it may not be the best, but I'm on a budget and definitely need a new video card at some point. I was wondering what I should upgrade first? WEI says the slowest part of the system is the HDD if that means anything. I mostly play Minecraft and like to use custom shaders, high resolution resource packs, and many mods but this R7 240 just can't handle much. What do you think I should buy first?? BTW, I know if I upgrade my video card, I will need a new PSU as well due to this one not having 6-Pin/PCIe connectors.

Hello everyone, I'd like to start by saying I'm not completely blind when it comes to system building/upgrading I'm not incredibly knowledgeable on the subject. (Hence me making this post) I recently acquired an Optiplex 390 Minitower (one with an i3 processor not an i5) from a closing office, and while it's definitely an upgrade from my previous computer, (the thing ran at full load constantly) I think I can improve it. I've already added an SSD and my thoughts are to upgrade the PSU, add RAM and a graphics card (I'm eyeing a GTX 950), but after reading up on the subject, I'm wondering if that's a good idea or even possible. Should I go ahead with my plan or should I just use this system for now until I'm able to get a decent tower? I think there's potential here but there's a huge possibility I've completely overlooked something. Thanks in advance

i have tought upgrading my pc next spring and im thinking of already upgrading my graphics card and everything else will wait. so the real question is will my intel core i5-4460 4 core 3.2Gh CPU be a horrible bottleneck and will i get any noticeable improvement if i upgrade to a GTX 1070, i have a GTX 770 at the time of writing. also will the 8GB of DDR3 RAM be in the way. i play games at 1080x1920 and have a 144hz screen. so what do you all think, will i get some value for my money in advance or should i wait until i upgrade most of the computer

i just sold the old sli gpus 2 4850 hd amds getting rx 480 when it drops got 4 2gb ddr2, stock motherboard, and quad core at 2.33ghz trying to replace this all in time when i save up more cash ill bottleneck for abit geting 1 stick of 8 gb ddr3 and i guess i would go amd for the cpu so the motherboard would need to have that set I'm having fears of saving the case but i want to i know asus board would not be good with the front board connectors and that i need atx standerd to save the case plus im trying to save the 750watt powersupply

So i have a MSI B85-G43 motherboard. it has 4 slots for RAM for a maximum RAM capacity of 32GB of DDR3. currently i have a stick of 8GB 1600Mhz memory. i want to add another stick 8GB for a total of 16GB. now i sometimes stubble upon some posts saying that there's a chance that adding another stick to achive dual channel will cause problems if their not coming from the same pack. The stick that im going to buy is the same brand, same speed and even the same product code/series. will i have problems ?

So i do alot of gaming/streaming/Youtubing/ect, and i was thinking of upgrading to a 1080 once either i can Afford a founder card or i start hearing good things from custom cards from evga/msi/ect . My PC Specs~ 1. HDD - 2TB Harddrive (some seagate drive i cant remember) 2. Core - Intel Core i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3. Ram - Corsair vengeance (BLUE) 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit 4. GFX Card - MSI GTX 670 power edition 5. MOBO - MSI Z87-G41 Also my case is a Thermaltake Chaser MK-I if any ones curious. This is the "My Baby" build That i am currently using. I know its not "high end" and needs atleast another 8GB of ram (possbly an ssd as well) I was wondering if i would need to make a serious upgrade to avoid major bottlenecks or if it wont be too bad. Edit: I Mean upgrading The other parts besides the video card like the mobo or core.

Hey All! DarthPotato here again. I currently own the HP Envy 700-216 PC and wanted to upgrade it. Not just the GPU as most people do. I want to upgrade the PSU, Motherboard, GPU, CPU and possibly get an All-In-One Water cooler. My main concerns are if the GPU will fit in the case, and the watercooler. If anyone can tell me if the PSU will fit as well, that would be greatly appreciated. I have two plans, either budget or mid-level, and I will be posting both of the ideal specs that I want here. Budget: CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 PSU: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 950 2GB Superclocked+ ACX 2.0 Video Card Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Mid-Level: CPU: Intel i5 6600k Motherboard: ASrock B150m Pro4 PSU: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply GPU: Asus Radeon R9 380 Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO RAM/Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black (2x4GB) I also wanted to know which setup is the future proof one. Thanks Again To Anyone Who Sees This! -DarthPotato

So I got an ssd a while ago (kingston sv3 120gb) and I installed into my system and left it there for a while. Now I want to put it to use by putting windows 10 onto it via free upgrade. I know I need to initialize and format it first (I need help with that), then I don't know where to go after that. I feel pretty dumb right now and I hoped you guys know what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

So basically I need help with what the heck I can do with my PC, I really need an upgrade but do not have the money to upgrade anything. I run a GeForce GTX 750 Ti GPU And AMD A8-6500 CPU and I have 16GB of ram, I am running Windows 10 home. I have never overclocked, I have pretty ok case cooling but just the standard crappy AMD cooler, I have never overclocked anything before. What the heck should I do to get more performance without spending any money?
