Hi I currently plan to upgrade my GTX 970. I'm considering 1070ti, and 1080ti. I have a monitor that is 1080p 144hz. I know some people say 1080ti is too much. but having max settings at a constant 144hz is not too much for me. but I want to know which is best for me price wise and also performance wise. I have 16gb DD3 ram 1600MHz Also, i'm planning on buying a used gpu because I can't afford a brand new one.

I have been using my own build for a good few years now and it can run the newer games but not on the highest settings (which is fine by me) and most of them I can reach around high 40 fps to mid/high 50 fps and sometimes 60 fps . But I have been thinking to upgrade some of my pc parts. So I'm wondering which parts are best to upgrade. Hi, I am new to the forums. I have a really old laptop- a Samsung NT300V5A-A16B. I think I got it in like 2011 or so. It's running a Pentium B950, 8GB of DDR3 ram @1600mhz (originally had 4GB), and a painfully slow HM641JI hard drive. The laptop was extremely slow, and I mean really! It took 40 minutes to load into Windows and for all the icons to load. Opening a browser took 5 minutes. And if that's not enough, it also overheats. Since then, I've done a factory reset and cleaned the laptop. It still takes 10 minutes to load Windows, and a minute to open a browser. My parents want to use the laptop, but it is way too slow. I was very sure the hard drive was the problem, so I went ahead and bought a Crucial MX500 250GB SSD. Now here's a plot twist: The laptop screen is cracked and I cannot access the bios. The bios does not output to the TV via HDMI nor VGA. Normally I would plug the Windows Installation Media flash drive into the laptop and install Windows that way. But I have no way to boot from the flash drive since I don't have access to the bios. So instead, I used one of my other systems to install Windows onto the SSD. It went perfectly fine. I took the SSD out of the system and installed it onto the laptop. I booted it up, thinking it'll boot up fine. But no, for some reason the laptop screen turns on for half a second, goes blank for a second, and repeats. I have no clue why. So instead, I used a Sabrent 2.5" SATA Drive to USB 3.0 Adapter to connect the SSD to the laptop. I see output on the cracked screen, but there is no output on the TV. I tried using HDMI and VGA, with no success. At this point, I am completely clueless on what to do. Did I do something wrong? What should I do? Is there a way to display the BIOS to the TV? Or will this whole thing not work? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Ok so bear with me for a minute because I like to type it ALL out so its easier for you all to help me without having to ask the basics. 1. Budget & Location $1500~ USD but can go up if needed. Fort Lauderdale, Florida 2. Aim Currently I only do 1080 video, but alot of it. I currently do not do 4k/8k video editing, but will in the future. I cover drag racing and do full feature event features, DVD's and BluRays. The editing isn't extravagant with crazy special effects and color grading/correction etc, BUT there is ALOT of fast paced editing. So I am just trying to speed up the workflow in Adobe Premiere Pro and Encore, which on my end has become alot faster since I started in 2010. So currently my computer is my hold up on waiting for things like renders, file transfer etc. plus alot of dropped frames and just all around lagging when I am trying to rush thru the editing progress. So with recommendations from alot of others with this new build I was wanting to do a 3 SSD setup with 2 of my current drives for local storage. I also have my 48tb QNAP which i move older stuff to and backup to regularly, but wanted to still keep some stuff locally incase its needed from previous events and edits. I was going to break down the SSD/HDD setup like this -m.2 1 - OS and Software (970 Pro)m.2 2 - Project files and source media (970 Evo)m.2 3 - Media Cache & Scratch files (970 Evo)HDD 1 + 2 - Storage for everything else I dont game, or OC at all, but do ALOT of video all day everyday. Im sure at this point anything I put together will be faster than my current setup. I also currently use Adobe Master Collection 5.5 and will be upgrading to Adobe CC with this new build. 3. Monitors Currently have 1 Samsung and 2 Acer's. Only 1 of the Acers is hooked up. I have 2 more of the same Samsung's in the box, just haven't hooked them up yet since I am redoing the office desk area along with this build. 4. Peripherals Reusing my current keyboard, mouse, speakers etc. 5. Why are you upgrading? Basically the computer I have I built as my first computer when I started really getting into the racing videos. I built it in March of 2010. I think since im coming up on 9 years of duty with this thing its about time. I have gotten faster at what I do, and the computer now slows me down. I have upgraded parts in it over the years, new SSD, newer HDD, newer GPU, more ram . I just feel its time to revamp most of it. Attached below is the original build from 2010, and the current Speccy list of what I am typing on with some changes. I plan on reusing the - HAF 932 case GTX 1050 Ti DVD Drive I purchased the GPU not too long ago so it will do for now. Im not planning on waiting another 9 years for upgrades, so the GPU can be upgraded in the next few months once the initial build is done. My racing season starts shortly and I need to get a jump on the main parts first. This is the PCPP list I currently have put together. The two WD HDD I added on there to layout the list, but I currently have them already installed in the current system. Hope this was all enough info to help with my questions. I'm trying upgrade my aging i3 3220 build from a more than half a decade ago. I'm from the Philippines and my budget is around PHP 20,000 ~ USD 385 I've abandoned using my Pc for my laptop years ago, but even my laptop feels a bit sluggish under a heavy mix of engineering programs/gaming recently. Particularly running Autodesk Autocad/Revit/Fusion 360/Blender & TW3/CivV/Cities:Skyline respectively. Not much of a graphics enthusiast, just want to have smooth gameplay. Also do light video editing with Davinci Resolve if that factors in to anything Peripheral wise I used to run two 1366x768 monitors for my pc but since relegated the second monitor for my laptop. Moving forward I recently bought a 2 screen monitor arm and consolidate my two monitors to my pc again. Basic keyboard / mx anywhere 2s / win 10 Carry overs from my old pc are my: GPU - Asus 750ti / HDD - Segate 1tb / SSD - Kingston 128gb / Case - generic basic case (thinking of replacing it if possible) Parts List: CPU/RAM/MoBo: Ryzen 5 2600 / 8gb ddr4 2400 / Msi B350M PRO-VD PLUS (Bundle) Php 15,300 link (lazada.ph) This was a pretty neat find for me, cpu motherboard bundles of the 2600 usually cost at least a thousand more than that and doesn't include ram. I bought ram from this seller a month ago and they seem legit. PSU: Seasonic S12II 620 Bronze (SS-620GB) 620W Php 3,448 link (lazada.ph) Of all the component categories aside graphics card, power supplies seemed to be the most marked up and limited in terms of options in my area. An alternative I did find is the Corsair cx550m for php 4,250. Case: Honestly, I'm completely paralyzed by the amount of choices in this category. Can you suggest cases around php 2000 ~ usd 40 y'all like, doesn't have to be from a local marketplace I just want to see what is possible under this price point. Not big on rgb tho. My gpu will most probably bottleneck the system... I just want to have six cores for that sweet quick blender render. (and mid tier gpus and higher cost like a fortune here). Never OC'ed before but might explore it a bit to eek out that extra performance.

So I'm in the process of choosing parts to upgrade my old Windows 7 i5-4690k PC. I'm going to keep the 750w psu and my GTX 970 to use in my new system, until I get more saved for a RTX. I'm mostly going to use it as a gaming PC but I also am in the process of learning Android development, I also do some HTLM and Java programming, but at the moment I'm still new to Android. I'm upgrading becasue Windows 7 only supports 16GB of RAM and I have DDR3 atm. I might OC a little down the road, but I didn't OC my current PC and it's been fine for me. I was originally looking at the i7-9700k but after doing some research the last few day I'm leaning more towards the i7-8700k. For the MB I was getting the Asus ROG Strix z390-E but I've heard a lot about how Asus kinda dropped the ball with it's z390 boards. I also haven't chosen my case yet, I would like a full tower, but will take a mid tower if I like it, so I can upgrade again with SLI RTX cards and a water cooling setup. I also picked the most popular fan on pcpartpicker as a place holder until I finalize the rest to make sure I have a big enough fan. My part list that I have so far, I would like to keep the MB around $250 and the case around $200. Any advise would be helpful, I pick the Asus board since i have the Z97-A and have always gotten good boards from them. For a while now I've been wanting to upgrade my gpu from my 750ti. I cant afford something over around $250. I considering something like a gtx 980ti, gtx 1060 6gb, or an Rx 580 8gb. Brand doesn't really matter, but my preferred brand is asus.

The new display + new graphics card is now requiring a new case, with my old one being the corsair crystal compact barely able to hold my zotac card. A buddy of mine wants to sell his thermaltake 71 case for 50$, and that seems like a really good deal, i have no clue what could come close to that price for the size Another concern i have is the 2080 super FTW hybrid gpu i wanta get, if ill have a good spot for the little 120 mil rad + fan, along with having the 2 ring coolers in the front with a back 120-140 mil fan in the back. The cpu will be a 240m aio on the top as well.

Hey all, my current build is: 5 3570k asrock z77 extreme4 MSI GTX 980 4gb OC Windows 10pro 64 bit I primarily use my computer for work. I am a photographer and most recently, getting back into video editing. I'm curious would it be worth upgrading to some newer hardware? If I were to upgrade I've been thinking about getting a Ryzen 2600, system. Thoughts?

Hello, I'm currently using i5 6600(non k) with RX 480 and after 2 years I'm thinking about upgrading my gpu. Had a lot to choose from and I'm thinking about the GTX 1080. Other choice was GTX 1070, but here in my country the price difference between these used GPU's is pretty small, only about 45USD. One of the most troubling thing about upgrading was the CPU bottleneck. I've read a lot of forums about this and similar duos and opinions are very different. Some say it doesn't bottleneck at all, some, that it's even worse after upgrading to higher end GPU like 1080, doesn't matter if the game they are playing is more GPU or CPU demanding. And btw, I don't really have money to upgrade GPU and CPU at the same time. So my questions are, what's your opinion about this duo and is it worth upgrading into this GPU? I would like to play in stable 1080p 60hz, but if it would work I'd like to push the resolution up to 1440p.

Hi all, I am planning on upgrading my CPU from an Intel i5 8400 to an i7 9700k relatively soon, and I was wondering if I need to do anything with/to the bios so that the upgrade is as seamless as possible. And do I need to worry about losing my Windows key at all? I have a MSI Z370 SLI PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard currently, and I'd like to keep it if I can. Any advice is very appreciated!

Currently I am running a system with a Core-i5 3570 with 12GB of DDR3 Ram, I have been looking at upgrades, something that a high school student could afford? My GPU is a 1660 Ti and I feel like the rest of my system could use an upgrade. I am looking for something a bit on the cheaper sides, I live in Canada and am looking to go with Ryzen instead of Intel, are there any suggestions on CPU's, RAM or Motherboards that come on sale often and are good?

Hey there, I'm going to be getting a new laptop soon since it's been awhile since I had a functioning pc of sorts, and due to moving multiple times a year along with having small amounts of space I like to keep things as light and portable as possible while still being able to play awesome games and edit videos. That said, after some research I picked out the Acer Predator 300, namely the newer 2019 model. Only there's a slight problem, I'd like to upgrade some of the things inside of it. Namely replacing the original SSD and Ram with these larger choices, • 2 TB Sata SSD • 32 GB RAM I've looked up how upgrades work but for some reason I haven't found a clear cut answer to whether or not this laptop could handle higher upgrades than what comes with the model I'm looking at. I'm worried about the upgrades either not fitting right, not working at all even if they fit, having compatibility issues with other parts of the laptop, or overworking the system and causing the cooling to not be enough and eventually leading to some of the parts melting! ? I've had that happen with a prior laptop years back, but ironically, that wasn't due to upgrades. It was just poor treatment and leaving the thing on a bed and other not-so surfaces for years on end. Not to mention banging it around at work and on buses. I'm a bit childish with my tech at times. It's amazing it survived three years with all that. Granted I definitely learned my lesson with that experience, but I also scarred myself for life thinking tech will just straight up melt if I get something not specific to the original build. So if you guys could look over the laptop and the things I'd like to upgrade it with, and let me know if it will survive the procedure (so to speak) I'd be eternally thankful! ♡

So I decided to upgrade my gtx 745 to Rx 570. Unfortunately I don’t have 8pin connector from PSU so I decided to remove 15 pin sata from CD drive and use it with an converter. I was doing it with a friend, the converter needed a 2 15pin sata connector to power 1 8-pin GPU connector. My friend removed the sata power from the hard drive and tried to run it like that (I know he doesn’t know a thing). After that, I reconnected HDD but pc doesn’t post at all. There is a weird buzzing sound comes out of motherboard. Idk what is wrong. I have i-4770, 12gb of ddr3 ram, and plenty juice for GPU from PSU(about 500w). It makes the same noise with my gtx 745, intel onboard graphics as well.

Need help finding a compatible motherboard!
mattwv02 posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Right now I need help... I currently have an Omen 870-224 (https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-870-200/13687063/model/15741160/document/c05389962) And i'm looking to upgrade, already going to add another 8gb memory, and a new hard drive, easily figured out those.... Now I have hit a road block, the motherboard, the motherboard is an Odense2-K and i'm having trouble finding a board that fits and would also accept my current internals so I can just move it all over. I mostly want to get a new board so I can expand my memory even more past 16gb but I have hit a wall as I cant find a board that has the same form factor and chipset (I don't want to have to buy a new case). If anyone can help I would much appreciate it. *and with a LGA 1151 processor socket -
I'm thinking of adding a Geforce GT710 to upgrade my Acer aspire 280? pc I'm 90% sure that the model is the 281-eb11 and I might go down to best buy to get some parts for it before christmas and I need help. The power supply right now is either 300 or 350 watts and it will probably need an upgrade for the upgrade but I think I'll test it first before that, is there any damage that could occur by using it with too low of a wattage or will it just not work? I'm also wondering if there could be any issues as the built in GPU uses Gddr4 memory and the card only uses Gddr3 memory? Also are there any places or ways to return the card if it isn't compatible with my system? Link to the gpu I'll probably get https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/zotac-zotac-geforce-gt-710-2gb-gddr3-video-card-zt-71303-20h/10416248.aspx?

I will soon be upgrading my PC and I8 currently have a motherboard that supports my I5-7400 and a 1060 3gb I will be upgrading to a 1070ti and I was wondering if the about £100 increase in price is worth it for the I5-8600K since if I chose the I5-7600K I wouldn't have to buy a new motherboard. So the question is: Is the boost in performance worth it and will an I5-7600K bottleneck my GPU at 1080p normal gaming and Vr using the Vive (also streaming sometimes). If anyone could help I would be really grateful as I've given lots of thought to this and still don't have a decision.

Hello, I am fairly new to pc building and upgrading parts. I was gifted a Cyberpowerpc prebuilt last year for a birthday present. Although the pc is fairly decent to run most games like CS GO, Pubg, Farcry 5, etc, it just doesn't seem to be able to run the new games like BF5, Call of Duty, and some other games. It can't run these games at medium settings at all and I have to go to the lowest settings to be able to get at least 60fps. Here is the pc: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883230178 ^^^^ I have actually upgraded the fans to some nice Corsair ones and the power supply to a 650w silver rating Location: USA Budget: I generally don't have one, I'm going to be gathering money throughout 2019, I dont want to spend any more than 700$-800$ on parts for upgrading the thing. Aim: To run high end games like BF5, Far Cry 5, Cod at medium to high settings. Idk, I just want the games to run with ease. Monitors: I have two monitors, my one I want to use for web browsing/ secondary monitor https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?reviews=all&Item=N82E16824236758 , and the gaming monitor I ordered coming in soon https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Monitor-Refresh-FREESYNC-Technology/dp/B075KFPJ5C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1543795722&sr=8-3&keywords=27+curved+144hz+monitor+acer . Peripherals: I have a good keyboard, mouse, mousepad, and headphones, I know I am fine there. Why I am upgrading?: Being able to run some nice looking video games is pretty much all I want haha Thank you for reading my thread and I hope that I get a response xd

Hi Guys I'm new to this forum but love linus tech tips.. My current build is Core i5 6600 Gtx 1070ti 8GB DDR4 Ram 550 Watt PSU I would have thought upgrading my graphics card would allow me to get better performance in games such as Rainbow Six Siege and steams free to play Ring of Elysium. But alas no. I am sitting at 50—60 fps on elysium with severe frame drops(down to 5-12) I need some advice on what I can do to boost my performance. Wether it's over clocking, investing in a new cpu, getting more ram. I'm not a massive know it all, wish I was, and I'm struggling to figure out what to do. Any advice on things I can do to boost performance would be great. Many thanks Shea...

So, gaming on my old 12" Asus Touchscreen Laptop was getting old, I couldn't even play Minecraft at 15 fps. So I decided to upgrade to a Desktop, now I'm not as affluent as I wish I was so I couldn't afford an actual "Gaming" computer. I bought a Dell Inspiron 3668, which came with (what was a big upgrade from my last system's specs) an i5 7th Gen, 8GB of Ram, and a 1TB HDD. Just recently I've wanted to upgrade my GPU to something OTHER than integrated, and after some digging, I found out that I couldn't possibly find a PSU in the weird size that Dell uses to power a decent GPU. So after some talk with a few of my buddies, and a few google searches to find others with the same problem, I found out that I needed a 24 to 8 pin adapter and then my PSU would just have to sit outside the case. This is fine with me because I am going to be putting it in a desk anyways. After looking for a while, I settled on the EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 SC. (I'll have a link to all the parts at the end) I just recently talked to a friend of mine and asked if he would do anything different or add something, he recommended that I get an SSD too so I can decrease my load times and such. Trying not to break the bank, I chose a 250GB SSD. My real question is: Is there anything that I am missing here? I'm new to even looking inside of PC's so I just don't want to end up frying it. Thanks for any help! :) Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A210HKO/?coliid=I3FQSICCAGA509&colid=2LP09X0UNI900&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Power Supply: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EON40CS/?coliid=IC0327LOYN37D&colid=2LP09X0UNI900&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Graphics Card: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M64G435/?coliid=ITRHHFHF2AQU6&colid=2LP09X0UNI900&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it SSD: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07864WMK8/?coliid=I29DBKYZ0OM21K&colid=2LP09X0UNI900&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Sata Cable? So my first gaming pc was a pre built Trace940 from iBuyPower and I'm wondering if it'll support a MSI Geforce GTX 1070 Ti. I believe it can but I don't want to buy a $400- $500 Graphics Card and find out that my computer can't support it. I have i7-8700 CPU, 16GB of ram, a 500 watt PSU. I'm pretty sure my computer can support just would like to know from people that know more than me since I'm knew to the PC gaming field and love it and want to get more into it I also stream and use 3 monitors all at 144HZ.

I just got a rtx 2070 and am pretty much upgrading everything in my system that I got from Cyberpower over a year ago. I would really appreciate any help that I can get and I hope anyone can help me with this. If you are confused on my description please leave a comment so I can clarify. Thanks!
