Okay, so my computer is a 300$ eBay bought computer that’s 100% not for gaming. Does not have a good cpu (currently really old and bad AMD) and does not even have a graphics card. I want to start YouTube and Twitch streaming really badly. Over the months I’ve had enough money to only buy 4 main parts I need to upgrade, this is what I got. CPU • Intel Core i3-8100K 3.6GHz Motherboard • (I don’t remeber the exact kind but it’s made by gigabyte) Ram • DDR4 8gb 1600MHz Graphics Card • GTX 1050 (I’m on a strict budget btw) My two questions are : Is this good enough to start up a gaming YouTube channel and a little bit of streaming on the side? And : I have a fully copy of windows and I don’t want to pay any more money on a second copy of windows if I do need it. So when I’m changing my cpu and my motherboard, will my copy of windows I had before stay? Or will I have to get a new copy of it to put on my computer. (I’m not changing the hard drive btw) I’ll be able to answer any questions you have! Many info helps! Thanks! ??

Current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Yose/saved/ymZNnQ Hello! I'm thinking about downsizing to a nzxt h400i and I want this to move my last upgrade (downsize) for several years. I'm looking to buy a set of 3 Corsair ml120 rgb fans, as well as a Asus strix gtx 1070 RGB enabled. I was wondering if there are enough fan connections to power the three fans I'm looking at. I'm also wondering if there's a way to get an RGB fan onto my current CPU heat sink because I don't really like the plain, black fan. Would I need to buy one of those usb 2.0 header hub things or am I okay with the hub that the h400i comes with? Thank you!

So I did some research and went to the cooler master power calculator to see just how much my current rig pulls from the wall outlet and btw this is an AMD card that's called "Radeon HD 6900 series" now for some reason I couldn't really find this card in the list of AMD GPU's so I went for the next closest thing a "Radeon HD 6950 series" which I figured will have a somewhat close amount of power pull from the outlet. And then after getting the calculation of around 408 watts, I believe (including gaming keyboard and mouse) this looked all fine and dandy. Then just to see if I needed to get a new power supply but by my surprise, the GTX 1060 apparently takes less power then the graphics card I have in my own pc which really surprised me and this was with the core clock and the memory clock in the default position. Also the power supply I believe that's in my PC is a 500W so I guess that I'll do me fine, not sure though? Also, side note: I have an intel core I5 2500 how much of a bottleneck would it be if I don't change this? Anyone know cause I'm unsure if it's not worth keeping or not?

Hey guys! My dad recently bought an HP Omen 880-160SE gaming desktop, and we tried plugging in a WD Blue 500 GB M.2 SSD. It's this one: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-500GB-SSD-WDS500G2B0B/dp/B073SBX6TY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526611509&sr=8-1&keywords=M.2+SSD+WD+500. We started up the computer with pre-built hardware, configured Windows and then created a backup to boot from. Only problem is, we can't even get the bios to boot with the M.2 plugged in. No screen, no graphics, nothing. Is this SSD card incompatible with the HP Omen we purchased? If so, we need to know soon so we can return the drive and purchase a compatible one. We talked with WD; their "customer support" couldn't tell that an M.2 was an "internal drive" and said that if changing the boot sequence didn't fix it, it's a Microsoft problem. HP tech support didn't understand what an M.2 drive was, and we talked to them both before and after purchasing the desktop, and they've been equally unhelpful both times. Does anyone know a good resource for this? Or can answer this themselves?

Hey guys, I have what I believe is a dumb question but I want to make sure I'm doing this right. I have an MSI laptop with a 128 GB SSD that I want to upgrade to a 512 GB one. Thing is the OS is installed in this drive and I want to know if I just have to replace the ssd and the bios will automatically have the windows 10 key for the installation and I just need the ISO (or not even that) or if it is more complicated than that. I have 1TB HDD too.

Hello all. I currently have a pg278qr and some 21" 1080p monitor from Acer. I'd like to upgrade the 21" to a 2nd 27" and I'd like to match brands. So I'm having trouble deciding between the pb278q or the pg279q. I play games on the 27" I already have, I'd be doing editing on the one I'm trying to get. Is the pg279q worth the extra dough, or should I just get the pb278q and save some money? Thanks for the advice.

Hello! I hope I have put this is the proper thread, so we will see how this goes. So. I have had my self-built computer for about a year now, and am a bit stuck as to where to go next. I'm very new to the PC building world (This is my first computer) and I would appreciate some advice on what to do now. My hardware is as follows: Motherboard- Asus GA-M110M-A CPU- Intel i3-6100 (With stock cooling) GPU- Nvidia GTX 1050 RAM- G.Skill - NT Series 8GB DDr4-2133 Storage- 1 TB HDD I know that I have a long ways to go, but I would love some advice on what would be best to upgrade first, and perhaps a few suggestions. I don't have a ton of money, so please try to bear that in mind if you do make suggestions. Thanks loads, A fellow internet goer Edit: Thanks for all the quick responses! So you guys have some pretty good advice. I do have one question though. My cooling is really weird. Even though my CPU is not the most powerful, my temps still stay around 50-60 with just Firefox and the temperature monitor open (CPUID HWMonitor). Is this bad? If so, what should I do to improve my cooling? I have looked in a few places and most of them say my idle temp should only be around 30 or 35. Again, Thanks for all your help, A fellow computer guy. Edit Edit: I. Am. An Idiot. I open up the case, thinking perhaps some cables are blocking a fan somewhere, and lo and behold, THE CPU FAN IS UNPLUGGED. Please ignore me, and proceed with your day. Thank you.

Will Upgrading my PC Parts Interfere With My OS?
aaronhare posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
I was wondering if upgrading my motherboard and cpu would affect Windows 10? I am going to upgrade my motherboard from a Gigabyte GA-H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard to a Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard and upgrade my cpu from a Intel Core i5-6500 to a Intel Core i7-8700K. I was just wondering if I would have to re-install Windows 10 Home (I hope I don't have to). I do not have a OEM version of Windows 10 Home by the way. I thought this is the best forum to post this in since I could not find a more qualified one so sorry if this is in the wrong one. -
I'm looking to upgrade my PC. While I play games sometimes, I'm more concerned with speed for things like compiling in game development. Relevant specs are, motherboard: P8z68-pro Processor: i5 2500k Ram: 2 sticks of jm1600kln-4g SSD: samsung evo 500gb Graphics Card: Radeon HD 7990 (I dont plan on upgrading this, for now.) HDD: Various (dont plan on upgrading these) My main concern is that I don't know how much of an improvement certain processors would be, and by extension if it would be worth it to upgrade the motherboard. The ram is also fairly cheap, yet I've seen a lot of mixed info as to whether it would be worth upgrading at all, and I've run into few limitations even at 8gb. (Only one has been loading huge vsts in music production) Budget is anywhere from $200 to $1000 CAD, it really depends what the advantages would be. Bonus points if it can be ordered on amazon because I have prime, and thus free shipping.

I want to replace the integrated of my Lenovo IdeaCentre 510 15 IKL desktop with a proper GPU and was wondering how I'd do it and if there was a plug to connect the GPU to the PSU. If not then would I have to buy a low power consuming card and which cards would be best? I'd appreciate any help

Hello, I am a newer pc builder and I'm looking at upgrades for my cpu. I currently have: CPU - AMD A10-5800k (Currenlty overclocked at 4.2ghz for the 4 cores.) Motherboard - MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 Ram - 2x4GB Dual Channel DDR3 Graphics - Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 (EVGA) SSD and a HDD I am looking to upgrade my processor, but want to get something that would be better than what I currently have. Most preferably something at 3.0ghz 8-core or better. I am just curious what others would suggest as I am not that experienced in building. I'm looking for something under $200 for my CPU and Motherboard that would still support my ram and GPU. Any suggestions you guys have maybe a little over or under my budget is gladly accepted. I'd like to get a good idea of what some good options are. Thanks for you help in advance!

Hey guys! I've been watching LTT for a few years, and I just decided to join the forum. I have a pc that I build pretty much entirely from spare parts and I want to start doing some major upgrades, I'm starting a new job so I'll have some extra money in the next few weeks. I won't be upgrading all at once instead I'll buy a part or two each paycheck, so I don't exactly have a specific price I want to spend. I use my system for light to medium gaming, web surfing, and school work. I currently use two 1080p monitors and I have a third one hooked up to my laptop. Realistically, my 1050 can handle one monitor with a game and a second one with a browser simultaneously, any more than that and my fps drops like a rock. So, everything will be upgraded, I'm just trying to figure out what to do first, yeah I know my setup really sucks but I paid less than $200 (US) for the entire thing. One other thing, I want to stick with DDR3 because I already have 16 gigs and I don't really want to pay for ram twice, also I would like to get the FX9590. I'm asking for parts recommendations and which things I should upgrade first. I attached my specs and btw the ram isn't faulty, it's just running at half speed because the motherboard is throttling it and I can't change it in the BIOS. Thanks guys

So my friends PC is getting old, so he is deciding to upgrade. He mainly plays PUBG, GTA5, 5M and a little bit of CSGO, medium-high settings, 1080p 60hz. His budget is around $700-800USD, I already made 2 builds but was looking for some feedback. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ZIC/saved/ytTVYJ https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ZIC/saved/bsXZ8d Thanks

Hey everyone! I'm considering a big upgrade from my R9 270 to a GTX 1080. My only concern is that GPU performance might be bottle-necked by processor. I have an i7-3770 running at 3.40GHz and I'm not quite sure how it'll affect the performance if I upgrade. Would it make a significant impact if I didn't upgrade? Should I try and upgrade both? Any insight and information is appreciated!

Hi there! I want to upgrade my PC's motherboard and CPU. 1. Budget & Location I live in Germany and have a budget of around 500€ (+- 40€). 2. Aim My goal is to play 3D games like GTA V, PUBG, Just Cause 3, Assassins Creed Origins and maybe stream from time to time, but that's not really what I need. I want more fps and a - like linus would say - butter smooth gameplay. I also want the build to be upgradeable in the future. 3. Monitors Currently, I'm running two monitors: my primary monitor has a resolution of 1920x1080 and my secondary monitor has a resolution of 1600x1200. 4. Peripherals I already upgraded to a mechanical keyboard and a new mouse with programmable keys. 5. Why are you upgrading? Like I already said, I want to have a better gameplay. More fps and more powerrrr in general. My current rig: MB: H-Joshua-H61-uATX CPU: Intel Core i3-3220 @ 3.30GHz Fan: stock GPU: GTX 750Ti by GALAX (2GB GDDR5) RAM: 2x 8GB DDR3-1600 (I think one is from kingston; I don't know the brand, consider them no-name) PS: be quiet! bqt e8-400W (non-modular) SSD: SanDisk SD8SBAT-128G-1122 (for my OS - Windows 10) HDD1: Seagate Barracuda 1TB ST31000524AS (for my games/steam library) HDD2: Western Digital Red 1TB WD10EFRX (for programs and ...stuff) External HDD: WD Elements 2TB connected via USB3.0 Mouse, keyboard and headset are connected via USB2.0. The plan I have compared and checked for compatibility over the last two weeks and have come to the following combination: MB: MSI X370 GAMING PRO (117,93€) CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X (209€) Fan: Alpenföhn/EKL Ben Nevis Tower (22,04€) and since the CPU needs DDR4, this is the new RAM for my computer: RAM: 16GB G.Skill RipJaws V black (2x 8GB DDR4-3200 DIMM) (169,90€) The online shop where I'm going to order these offers a service to install the cpu on the motherboard and updating the BIOS on the motherboard and ship all that to me. That way, I won't struggle with bent CPU pins and such things... (costs only about 10€) My question I just wanted to ask you guys if you have any recommendations or tips. I would be glad if you can tell me what I could do better. Thanks! Regards, Ricardo

Hello everyone, So the last week my motherboard died. Since it's a pretty old one (6 years old or so) and Black Friday is coming, I've been thinking about getting a new motherboard, CPU and RAM. I've been looking at i7-7700k, which is not a bad price at my country (299 euro) and since there is not much difference between the 7700k and 6700k (295 euro) I thought it was a nice option. But I've been looking at reviews/benchmarks and so on linus' channel and some other websites and I've seen that i7-7700k has some problems with temperature. My current setup has no liquid cooling and I'm not planning on getting one right now. I thought about getting 'Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo', which I've had before and I'm pretty happy with it, but I don't know the magnitude of the temperature problem and if it will be enough to solve it. My PC current use is pretty much working and gaming. Working on my computer doesn't demand much power (since it's mostly programming or similar) but gaming is pretty important to me. My current GPU is a EVGA GTX 1070 sc. So do you guys think that getting an 7700k is a viable option? I'm not considering getting an AMD CPU since I've had pretty bad experiences with them. Thank you very much. Btw, sorry for any possible mistake on format and/or english, it's my first time here
