So, gaming on my old 12" Asus Touchscreen Laptop was getting old, I couldn't even play Minecraft at 15 fps. So I decided to upgrade to a Desktop, now I'm not as affluent as I wish I was so I couldn't afford an actual "Gaming" computer. I bought a Dell Inspiron 3668, which came with (what was a big upgrade from my last system's specs) an i5 7th Gen, 8GB of Ram, and a 1TB HDD. Just recently I've wanted to upgrade my GPU to something OTHER than integrated, and after some digging, I found out that I couldn't possibly find a PSU in the weird size that Dell uses to power a decent GPU. So after some talk with a few of my buddies, and a few google searches to find others with the same problem, I found out that I needed a 24 to 8 pin adapter and then my PSU would just have to sit outside the case. This is fine with me because I am going to be putting it in a desk anyways. After looking for a while, I settled on the EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 SC. (I'll have a link to all the parts at the end) I just recently talked to a friend of mine and asked if he would do anything different or add something, he recommended that I get an SSD too so I can decrease my load times and such. Trying not to break the bank, I chose a 250GB SSD. My real question is: Is there anything that I am missing here? I'm new to even looking inside of PC's so I just don't want to end up frying it. Thanks for any help! :) Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A210HKO/?coliid=I3FQSICCAGA509&colid=2LP09X0UNI900&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Power Supply: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EON40CS/?coliid=IC0327LOYN37D&colid=2LP09X0UNI900&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Graphics Card: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M64G435/?coliid=ITRHHFHF2AQU6&colid=2LP09X0UNI900&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it SSD: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07864WMK8/?coliid=I29DBKYZ0OM21K&colid=2LP09X0UNI900&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Sata Cable? I will soon be upgrading my PC and I8 currently have a motherboard that supports my I5-7400 and a 1060 3gb I will be upgrading to a 1070ti and I was wondering if the about £100 increase in price is worth it for the I5-8600K since if I chose the I5-7600K I wouldn't have to buy a new motherboard. So the question is: Is the boost in performance worth it and will an I5-7600K bottleneck my GPU at 1080p normal gaming and Vr using the Vive (also streaming sometimes). If anyone could help I would be really grateful as I've given lots of thought to this and still don't have a decision.

Hello, I am fairly new to pc building and upgrading parts. I was gifted a Cyberpowerpc prebuilt last year for a birthday present. Although the pc is fairly decent to run most games like CS GO, Pubg, Farcry 5, etc, it just doesn't seem to be able to run the new games like BF5, Call of Duty, and some other games. It can't run these games at medium settings at all and I have to go to the lowest settings to be able to get at least 60fps. Here is the pc: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883230178 ^^^^ I have actually upgraded the fans to some nice Corsair ones and the power supply to a 650w silver rating Location: USA Budget: I generally don't have one, I'm going to be gathering money throughout 2019, I dont want to spend any more than 700$-800$ on parts for upgrading the thing. Aim: To run high end games like BF5, Far Cry 5, Cod at medium to high settings. Idk, I just want the games to run with ease. Monitors: I have two monitors, my one I want to use for web browsing/ secondary monitor https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?reviews=all&Item=N82E16824236758 , and the gaming monitor I ordered coming in soon https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Monitor-Refresh-FREESYNC-Technology/dp/B075KFPJ5C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1543795722&sr=8-3&keywords=27+curved+144hz+monitor+acer . Peripherals: I have a good keyboard, mouse, mousepad, and headphones, I know I am fine there. Why I am upgrading?: Being able to run some nice looking video games is pretty much all I want haha Thank you for reading my thread and I hope that I get a response xd

Hi Guys I'm new to this forum but love linus tech tips.. My current build is Core i5 6600 Gtx 1070ti 8GB DDR4 Ram 550 Watt PSU I would have thought upgrading my graphics card would allow me to get better performance in games such as Rainbow Six Siege and steams free to play Ring of Elysium. But alas no. I am sitting at 50—60 fps on elysium with severe frame drops(down to 5-12) I need some advice on what I can do to boost my performance. Wether it's over clocking, investing in a new cpu, getting more ram. I'm not a massive know it all, wish I was, and I'm struggling to figure out what to do. Any advice on things I can do to boost performance would be great. Many thanks Shea...

Hey, my system is about 4-5 years old now and I'm wondering if I should upgrade or consider buying a brand new pc.. Last year I upgraded to a ASUS GTX 1080 turbo so that is still very fresh. My other specs are : i5-4690k, ASUS z97-K-CSM ATX, 16GB RAM, 750 Power supply, Seagate ST2000DX001 2TB. I mainly game and stream and I have been noticing a bit of lag in my gaming and streaming. I'm also pretty sure my HDD is dying because it's pretty loud when I boot up my pc and when I feel my case, I can feel sudden vibrations in the area where my HDD is located. I am aiming towards the i7-8700k for gaming, streaming and editing. I would also need help picking a motherboard if the upgrade is worth while.

So I have been thinking about upgrading my CPU for quite some time now, because I usually sees it on 100% in task manager. (https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/12276263) I meanly uses my computer for gaming (Fallout 76, LoL, Fortnite and so on.) UserBenchmarks: Game 100%, Desk 69%, Work 48% CPU: Intel Core i5-6402P - 70.3% GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 - 122.2% SSD: SanDisk SSD Plus 240GB - 88.4% HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1TB - 71.1% RAM 1: Kingston KHX2133C14/8G RAM 2: Corsair CMK16GX4M2A2133C13/8G - 71.5% (This is them combined I guess?) MBD: Asus B150M-A But I am not totally sure what I should upgrade it to and/ or if I should get a new motherboard as well.. (For future generations of CPUs and what not) Anyway I fell over this nice offer, I guess (https://www.komplett.dk/product/1007144/hardware/pc-komponenter/saml-selv-pakkeloesninger/opgraderingspakker/opgraderingspakke-ryzen-5-2600x#) Which contains AMD AM4 Ryzen 5 2600X ASUS AM4 ROG STRIX B450-E GAMING HyperX Fury DDR4 2666MHz 16GB (2x8GB) For 459 dollar (Beware this is danish prizes if they seem a bit high) Or I should just get like a newer CPU from Intel which my motherboard supports, something like this: Intel Core i5-7600K Kaby Lake Processor (https://www.komplett.dk/product/904700/hardware/pc-komponenter/processorer/intel-core-i5-7600k-kaby-lake-processor#) For 306 dollars Also please come with a nice noob friendly explanation, also would I end up bottle-necking/ am I already bottle-necking since my CPU runs so high?

Hi, I have just recently watched the latest LTT video and come to thoughts of upgrading my HP Compaq 6005 Pro to turn it into a semi decent gaming PC. As I don't have a lot of money to mess around buying the wrong things I have come to the community of LTT to ask for some help. I am ideally looking to upgrade the GPU, CPU and RAM as they're the main goto when creating a gaming pc. I don't want any mistakes with buying things so if you're not completely sure then please say and maybe someone else could give a second opinion. I have wrote down my PC specs below and a link to the website for the PC. If you need any screenshots then please let me know and I'll be glad to supply some screenshots. Here is CNET page with the specifications about the PC: https://www.cnet.com/products/hp-compaq-6005-pro-sff-1-10-athlon-2-x2-b24-3-ghz-ram-2-gb-hdd-1-10-160-gb-dvd-supermulti-radeon-hd-4200-gigabit-lan-windows-7-pro/specs/ I am also looking into replacing the HDD with an SSD but I am unsure of how I could put my OS onto the SSD as I do not have the original disc for Windows 10. Recommendations for that are also appreciated. It did originally come with Windows 7 Pro but the previous owner upgraded it to Windows 10 Pro when the update was free to all. If you need any photos or any further information, don't hesitate to ask! Thanks in advance, Ben

alright so, I got a pre-built Asus a while back and I've been tying to make it into a gaming machine, I have a GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti G1 Gaming 4G that I recently installed and it's running great! but now I've noticed my CPU bottle-necking and sitting in high 90% in most games. I would like to upgrade my CPU but researching it I'm having trouble finding out which CPUs would be compatible with my motherboard. I have put a screenshot of CPU-Z with my motherboard info in a hopes that someone can help me find a good CPU to upgrade to.

Hi So I have a GTX 1070 8gb (https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GEFORCE-GTX-1070-GAMING-X-8G.html <- this one) with the launch of the RTX cards, there are many people who are upgrading to those cards so there is are a lot of GTX 1070s that people are trying to sell I can get one for around $350AUD (my current one cost me $650AUD ish) is it worth getting a second one and adding it to my system in SLI, as I would assume this would theoretically double the life of my system in the graphics department (by life I mean till its a bit outdated not till it stops working)? thanks a lot for any help

Hello! I am very new to this community and just came here to ask a few questions. I want a PC done tomorrow and found one on amazon that can get delivered by tomorrow. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071DM6TWM/ref=twister_B073VG29GL?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 However I still have some money left over and want to buy a graphics card, I am interested on buying this https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-04G-P4-6253-KR/dp/B07F4GGWL1/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537481641&sr=1-1&keywords=Gtx%2B1050ti&th=1 The PC’s power supply is 300W and the EVGA 3gb card recommends a 300W power supply and I want to ask if this is a good fit for the prebuilt PC. The only game i am interested in running is CSGO so yeah! Thanks!

Hi there. A few months ago, I bought a HP Pavillion 15 (2014 Model) for £40 second hand. There are quite a lot of issues but all of which I have the solution to, however I was wondering about the possibility of upgrading the laptop. I know that things like All-In-One PCs and Laptops aren't really designed with this in mind, but surely it is still possible. I was hoping to do a RAM upgrade and maybe a CPU upgrade (depends on if it is a socketed CPU rather than BGA). The exact model of the laptop is 'HP Pavillion 15-n270sa'. Thanks for taking your time to read this. Edit: More specifically, I was wondering what the limitations are if I was going to upgrade it

Greetings, long time fan first time poster. I can't seem to find a decent answer elsewhere on the net so I figured I might get a decent answer here. I am currently running a 780 Ti which surprisingly has held up great for the last 5 years at 1080p 60hz. However, I recently bought a new 1440p 144hz G Sync monitor and it is crushing the poor thing. I got excited when I heard about the new graphics cards coming out but not really sure if I should jump on the bandwagon and get a 2080 or just buy a decently priced 1080 Ti. I would prefer to be future proof for several years if possible as I'm sure you can guess I don't upgrade often. Just looking for some advice on what to buy.

CPU: FX-6100 Mobo: ASRock N68-GS4 FX R2.0 (Socket Type: AM3+) RAM: 1x 8GB DDR3 @937MHz GPU: AMD RX 550 (4GB XFX) So I've been planning to upgrade my "Gaming" build, and would like recommendations on what part would be in a good direction. Thanks

Hey guys, I currently have a i5 4670, and I'd like to get a GTX 1080 and a WQHD monitor with 144Hz very soon. But my CPU would bottleneck my system as I heard from some in the forum, so I'm curious if I can and if it would make any sense to get the i7 4770 to get the Frames I need for a 144Hz monitor. And I'm not 100% sure if the i7 would fit into my mainboard (MSI Z87-G43). If this would make sense, how much FPS would I get? Maybe one of you has this setup? :-) Otherwise I would stick with 75Hz. The games I play are Squad, Battlefield, TESO. Thank you in advance!!

I've had the thought the last few months to upgrade my current system, or at least partly so games run more smooth as it seems to be lacking a bit Currently; i7-2600k OC to 4.2ghz (Noctua NH-D9L cooler) 16gb RAM (bit unsure which atm) Maximus IV Extreme-Z mobo GTX 1060 ROG strix OC 6gb Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD Seagate® Desktop SSHD 1TB PSU 550Wats (It's a bit hidden in my R6 fractial case, so dont remember the brand) Monitor: AOC G2460PG The reason I'm looking to upgrade is since my main games; WoW, Fortnite, PoE etc are getting low FPS in the situations that matter and I've been toying with the idea to stream. I've also looked a bit into what to change, and if I want a better CPU, I need a new mobo anyways since the one I have doesnt support anything newer than 2nd gen. Supposedly, by all the PSU calculators out there I dont need to upgrade this, and upgrading my GTX 1060 is also not needed. I've also heard/seen that if you want to stream and game people recommend a Ryzen, thoughts on this? By the description of the NOCTUA cooler, I should also be able to use on any of the newer generations. (Living in Norway, btw) The setup I've been looking at; i7-8700K - 389$ @ komplett.no MSI Z370-A Pro, Socket-1151 - 136$ @ komplett.no Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2666MHz 16GB - 238$ @ komplett.no Samsung 970 EVO 500GB PCIe M.2 SSD - 214$ Total = 977$

I've been wanting to upgrade my laptop from a 5400rpm hdd to a ssd. It has Intel integrated graphics, and I was wondering when I upgrade and do a clean install do I have to get the drivers again? Also, is it just the graphic drivers or some other stuff.

Hi Everyone, I have been saving up some money recently, and would like to upgrade my system. Current Specs: RX 470 @1300 MHZ Ryzen 5 1600 @3.8GHZ 16GB Dual Channel @2400MHZ AsRock AB350 Pro4 EVGA 600B PSU 256GB SSD 1TB HDD Acer GN246HL 144hz Monitor I was thinking that currently the weakest link would be the graphics card, as my main use case is Gaming (Fortnite, Overwatch, Warframe etc) It does pretty well at 144hz in these games, but i need to drop the detail down to low in fortnite to sustain the 144 fps. I was thinking of upgrading to either a 1080, or waiting for the next generation of Nvidia card. If you think that there is somewhere else in my system that should be upgraded instead, or if the the ryzen 5 1600 will bottlneck the 1080, please tell me. Thanks.

Here are my current specs: Intel Core i5-7600k 8GB DDR4 HyperX Fury Black RAM GTX 1060 3GB 500W Silver EVGA PSU MSI B250M PRO-VD Motherboard Internet [from speedtest.net] Ping: 9ms Download: 241.13 mbps Upload: 11.73 mbps I want to stream ATLEAST 720p60 smooth, but 1080p60 would be amazing, should I buy a dedicated streaming box, or upgrade, and if so, what should I upgrade to? Any help at all is appreciated! Sidenote; If you want to request upgrading to an AMD CPU because you think it's a good option, go right ahead, I wouldn't mind!

Hello! I recently bought a prebuilt PC from ironside called the ironside grunt advanced, i was happy with the computer but felt there was more to be desired, so i started saving up for a new proccesor because i have a 1050 but an intel pentium proccesor so i figure it was time to upgrade. But with the motherboard i currently have i cant put the proccesor on it so i need a new motherboard to put an i7 8700k on and so i was going to ask, what is a good budget mother board good for overclocking, should i get a new cpu cooler and remove the standard intel heat sync and if so what cooler, should i get more case fans? Should i get more ram? I only have 4 gigs, i have a budget of about 670 usd to upgrade this thing, what are my best options? If anyone could inlighten me right now that would be fantastic, Thanks!
