Hello from the title im getting a abandoned computer left from a out of business office and from the pictures my dad sent me its a Dell Vostro 200. My questions are. 1. Can i gut out this computer and transfer its insides into a MicroATX Ranger-m Rosewill Case? I know Dell and HP like to be proprietary about their computers but Possible not Possible ? 2. The computer has Windows Vista, is there anyway i can use a vista key to upgrade to windows 10 pro (it has vista premium) 3. If i can use vistas key to upgrade to windows 10, how can i upgrade from vista to windows 10 (with watermark on it) or is the machine not compatible? 4.What parts can i upgrade from this computer? Like power supply wise , Ram, cpu , graphics card , Cooling system (like noctua not interested in liquid cooling as this is going to be a budget gaming pc that i wanna run games like Gta , fortnite, Vr Chat etc), SSD or Better Hard Drive? Etc, I do want to have this computer to its maximum potential. 5. Can this computer Run 4 Core cpu? 6. If i were to use this case because of it being "proprietary" how can one properly clean it? (Its been abandoned so it literally has dust i feel bad for it but happy that its found a new home)

So basically my friend wants a PC for school work and light gaming but in a few months he will be getting a bit more money and then wants to start streaming. So my idea was to have a weird build that he could just open up, drop in a 3600x and a 5700xt and not have to worry about anything except cooling (which he is considering getting something like the dark rock pro when he has the money). Anyway this was the build i threw together and was wondering if it is decent, i build it while keeping in mind he dosn't want to spend to much money on the main components (CPU and GPU) which would just go to waste when he gets the better parts. Here is what i have come up with - https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Tech_Void/saved/#view=xT49GX There is a weird thing with the memory, but he wants to get everything from amazon (since he has prime,it has decent return policy, ect) and it just didn't work so i entered my own price (the exact price from amazon at the time). Thank you for reading this.

I currently need a GPU upgrade as my current one is an R7 250 2GB and is lacking performance, I recently upgraded my CPU to an i5 2400, And i'd like suggestions for a good upgrade and combo for my CPU, I have no power supply limits and no case limits as I have lots of headroom on those fronts. My budget is up to about £90 or $110, I have mainly been looking over the used market and on sites like Cex or eBay but anything new within that price range I would go for too.

Specs: Desktop Single Monitor i7 6700k (not overclocked) EVGA GTX 1070 FTW 16 gb RAM 250 gb SATA SSD Uses: Gaming (Siege, Division 2, Wildlands) light CAD medium programing Currently playing games like division 2 or wildlands causes PC to dip into the 60s (FPS) under ultra settings (1080p) and big action. I only want to upgrade 1 item (either CPU or GPU) atm, was wondering what would make a bigger difference between the two? Note: my mobo is non overclockable and I don't plan on going down the route of overclocking atm.

Hi, I am about to try and upgrade my PC myself. This is the first time for me doing a build/upgrade. I do gaming streaming, edit videos and photos and play games mostly. I've seen some videos on YouTube but was just wondering if someone could help me with the following questions please. Here is a list of my old parts and the ones upgrading to: AMD FX9590 -------------- AMD Ryzen 9 3900X RAM DD3 32GB ---------- RAM G.SKILL F4 16GB DDR4 3600Mhz Dual Channel MSI 990FXA Gaming --- MSI X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Strix Radeon RX480 ---- AMD RX 5700 XT Corsair H110i ------------- Corsair AX1500i --------- The Ryzen 9 comes with a Wraith Prism - should I just use that or keep using the H110i instead? Also, can I just use my current SSD + HDD without having to format them or do I need to format them due to the components upgrades? If there's any videos in particular you think would help me on my attempt or if you have any suggestions/comments that would please let me know as it is much appreciated. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and super grateful for anyone that replies of course.

I've been thinking about liquid cooling my PC for a while now and have been looking into water blocks for my GPU and granted it's not exactly a new card I haven't been able to find any, I have a titan x, i was wondering if i would be able to use a titan v block or if any other block would be able to fit

Hello to you all, so I recently got a 2013 razer 14 for practically dirt cheap and although I know you can’t do anything to upgrade the cpu or almost anything other than the ssd and the battery, I was wondering if changing out the entire motherboard with one of the newer models’ motherboards was possible

So if anyone saw my last question, you know that my friend gave me his old i5-6600t since I don't really have money for new pc stuff. I want to build a computer around it, with room to switch out the 6600t for a better cpu when I get enough money. My question is, what motherboard should I get, and what cpu should I get in the future? I'm asking about the BEST cpu I could buy for a board that also works with a 6600t. I'm on a bit of a budget, though, so cheaper is always more helpful. I hope I described my issue well enough.

Hey everyone! I have a desktop PC which I built in 2015 which ran games like Battlefield 4 and GTA 5 without any problems. However, after about 2 years I kind of fell off PC gaming and ended up getting an Xbox One S to play games with my friends. Now with Xbox Play Anywhere and cross platform multiplayer I'm thinking of jumping back on PC gaming but I downloaded Halo 5 Forge to test my PC using a fairly modern game and it didn't hold up too well. The game is virtually impossible to play competitively with screen tearing and low FPS with medium to high settings. I get the feeling that I need to upgrade my PC or build a new one to get back to playing modern games with good graphics competitively so I was wondering what people in the know would recommend. This is my current setup: Intel i5 4570 Haswell CPU Asus H97-PLUS 1150 Motherboard Crucial Ballistix DDR3 8GB (4GB x 2) Memory Crucial 256GB MX100 SSD EVGA GTX 660Ti 3GB GPU XFX 450W 80+ Bronze PSU I currently don't know whether I would jump back into PC gaming or not, I guess it depends on how much I need to spend to start playing modern AAA titles at decent (not extreme) settings again. I've never been about playing games to their graphical best but I do like a smooth frame rate with decent graphics. Is this something I can do by upgrading my GPU and doubling my RAM or do I need to move to a newer CPU and upgrade the motherboard as well? What's going to get me the best bang for my buck? I would struggle to spend more than £500 on another build. I look forward to hearing your advice! Thanks in advance.

Today is my 18th birthday. As a present for this I am allowed to spend $400 on upgrading my pc in any way that I see fit. I almost solely use my system for gaming at the moment but will be bringing it to college and will want to maintain some productive capabilities. I am fairly satisfied with the current performance of my system and would not be apposed to cosmetic or non-performance enhancing upgrades. My current system is: GPU: MSI GTX 1060 6GB CPU: AMD RYZEN 1600X Storage: 1TB Segate harddrive and 1TB Samsung SSD RAM: 16GB of DDR4 It is all in a tempered glass cooler master case. My build theme is black and red. I currently have no cosmetic components. I am not apposed to any ideas, including a custom water loop, even if cosmetics is their only true purpose. Thank you for your suggestions.

Currently I am using 4th gen i5-4670k (OC to 4GHz), ASRock Z87 Extreme 6, 16GB DDR3 RAM, and an Nvidia gtx1080 FTW2. The 1080 is extremely bottlenecked by the i5, and the processor runs at 100% at all times while gaming. The parts I am planning on upgrading are the MB, CPU and RAM. I plan on getting an Intel Core i7-8700K Coffee Lake 6-Core 3.7 GHz, G.SKILL TridentZ SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600), and ASRock Z370 Killer SLI/ac LGA 1151 (300 Series). Will the new parts work well together? Are there parts that would work better? I'd just like peace of mind in buying new parts, and would like any recommendations.

Hey Guys! I have a guy that has been fairly cooperative with this Graphics Card. The guy wants 80 and I have it down to 70 at the moment. Is it worth it? Price/Performance? Thanks!

So I picked up a cyberpower PC. The non LED fan burned up on week 2 so I replaced it with a cheap insignia for now but then the LEDs started to flicker really bad, Not sure what the issue is but doesn't matter as I intend to replace things. I have a few questions I was hoping a few people would be kind enough to help me out with. It will mainly be used for gaming like WOW, eventually more. Id like to have it prepared before the more comes along. I've spent the better part of my day researching & watching videos on builds. I've learned a lot but since everyone building is starting from scratch some doesn't really help when looking to upgrade. For example, I currently run Wow with addons at High settings without issue so I don't think I need a 2nd GPU. Honestly the most I think I need is a cooling upgrade & maybe a power supply. I'm sure more memory wouldn't hurt either but best bang for buck first. This is my first "build" but figured this was a good start given I only paid 230 for everything and some of the parts alone would run well above that when I purchased it. 1. What software should I use to monitor temps, fan speed & things of that sort? I don't like MSI afterburner anymore due to I feel Ill click the wrong thing & overclock it or turn the fans up. Not a huge fan of OC due to I only have 1 machine to depend on for everything. I'm sure that will change the more I learn 2. Is replacing the Power sup needed in this case? I see people saying yes but it does have one that people recommend replacing it with so I'm not sure on that. 3. I wish to add 2 fans to complete the lighting look as well as I don't like the empty space for it. It also seems to run a bit hot during raids in game. Currently its running NEG pressure but I wish to have neutral with dust screens. 3. B. Should I think about water cooling? I keep this PC in the coldest part of my house even during the summer it still chilly, is it needed for what I'm doing or would air be enough? 4. If this was yours and you wanted to not break the bank but spend what you saved on upgrades(2-800 depending on how you look at it/given time it was purchased) What would you do first to improve the system performance & longevity overall? Please keep it mind I'm just starting out after to long time of letting myself think my Alienware m17 is still the beast it used to be 5 or 6 years ago. I also am trying to cram a lot of knowledge in little time and the options now are next to endless. I gave up on it years ago for a lot of reasons but one was mainly very little options so It was either spend the $$ or jog on, now its lego land and some parts are reasonably priced with good competition. I do plan on recording games, making videos, possibly streaming(my ISP is shet!) but most of all want a sound running machine for the long game or a good base start for the time being. My Alienware has been an unreplaceable work horse but now there is SATA & more options that only make everything better & easier, plus time is money friends. Any advice from the pro's that are here would be greatly appreciated! TIA

I've decided to upgrade my PC and need to do some major changes including new motherboard, GPU and CPU. I'm looking for someone who would be willing to help me find what I'm looking for and also have some patience with someone who doesn't know the ins and outs of all the components. If there is anyone who is willing to assist me, I can give my discord name or what ever is easiest to chat on so we can discuss what I'am going to be looking at and what parts I will need to purchase. I can give pictures of my current system or anything else that is needed, but it would be greatly appreciated if there was someone who could personally help with these upgrades. thanks in advance to anyone who decides to help.

Hi guys, So at the end of the month I plan on upgrading some parts of my pc and would like some help with choosing the parts. I already have a list of parts that will serve me well for my use case and should last me another 2 years no problem. My current use case for this pc is mainly gaming, productivity such as excel and databases, light content creation I.E I make short 5 minutes 1080p clips of the games I play with my friends ( Using adobe to render my videos ) and finally I have started getting in 3d modelling and 3d short animations ( mainly in Blender and Daz 3d ). Games I play are mostly Mobas and a few AAA games like borderlands 3, GTA V and DMC 5. The parts that I want to upgrade are listed below I’ve left out my GPU and monitor since I don’t see the need to upgrade them anytime soon as I’m getting over 144fps in my competitive games and 60fps to 90fps in those AAA games. Parts to upgrade: · AMD Ryzen 5 1600 · Crucial 16 GB Kit (8 GBx2) DDR4, 2400 MT/s, PC4-19200, CL17 (OC to 2800Mhz and CL16) · Corsair VS650 650W 80 PLUS · ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS · PC case – I have no idea what case this is I bought it off Ebay 6 years ago for my first build · 2x SSDs 120Gb (they are from Crucial, got them from work) · 2x WD Blue 1Tb HDD · 5x Corsair 120mm fans (not PWM) controlled with DEEPCOOL FH-10 Integrated Fan Hub The main purpose for this upgrade is to allow me to continue to do what I currently am doing but also increasing productivity times and increasing my 1% lows in games since I occasionally dip into low 30fps in AAA games and low 60s for some Mobas. Parts I think will serve me well: · AMD Ryzen 5 3600 · Noctua NH-D15 CHROMAX.BLACK (Over kill I know but I love the look and want to support the guys also may upgrade to a 8 core CPU if I get good and become serious with 3d creation) · Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 · Sabrent Rocket 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME · Fractal Design Define Mini C TG · Corsair ML120 ( 5 case fans that are PWM would like a quite system ) Any help is welcome, also for my budget it's set around £500 to £700 max willing to go over but I don't think I would need to.

How can i tell if my PSU is good enough? I've started buying parts for my PC upgrade, its a full platform change from AMD FX series to AMD Ryzen 2 series. I've already acquired the motherboard. I need to know if i will have any Problems with Power in the new setup. it is intended for gaming and some light streaming. this is a budget build and I'm trying to play it safe and only use new parts when i absolutely have to. i use a spiraling upgrade path, core hardware, Storage, GPU, Other, & Peripherals. My PSU is a 500 Watt EVGA 80+ This is my GPU: XFX AMD Radeon™ RX 580 GTS XXX Edition 8GB This is the MOBO I'm switching too: B450 AORUS ELITE (Already Purchaced) This is the CPU I intend to Use: Ryzen 5 2600x This Is the RAM I intend to use: XPG Z1 DDR4 3200MHz

Hello As i currently have a tower case and want to upgrade my pc with a bit better hardware than i currently have, and make it all a more compact pc. What hardware i currently have: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G Motherboard: MSI X370 Gaming Plus Graphics card: Nvidia 1070TI founders edition. Ram: 2*8GB Corsair Vengeance RBG( non pro) - samsung B die Storage: 1*NVME Samsung 970, 1*Samsung SATA SSD and 1*3,5" 6TB HDD. Cooler: Alphacool Eisbear LT 360 - AIO Case: Coolermaster Masterbox Lite 5 RGB Power supply: Corsair CX550M This is what i have been thinking about changing: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or better Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro WIFI Mini-ITX Case: Fractal Design Node 304 Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 But can the Noctua cooler fit inside the case with the ram being kinda tall and still leave enough space for a single HDD rack so i can fit my 2 sata drives? I was thinking about maybe 3D printing a holder for the 2 sata drives to let them be placed flat on top of the powersupply, or swapping the sata SSD to a second NVME drive. I live in Denmark, so i apologize in advance for my less than stellar English grammar.

Upgrading an almost decade-old PC. Please advise.
xmaestr0 posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi. I was given an old, but still functioning, HP Pro desktop and decided that I would gradually max it out instead of just throwing it away. It is not my daily PC but I plan on having it for entertainment in my house for movies, internet browsing and maybe some gaming, where capable. Here are its current specs: Processor: Intel Core i3-530 (73W) with its stock heat sink and fan. Motherboard: HP MS-7613 LGA 1156 RAM: 8 GB (4x2GB 1333 mhz) GPU: Nvidia GTX 650 TI PSU: 500W Please give me advice on the best CPU and the GPU to buy for this motherboard. Also, I'd like to ask if it would also be necessary to upgrade the heat sink and fan if I replace the current CPU with a quad-core one without any intention of overclocking it. Please help. Thanks!- 14 replies

At the moment I´m running an i7-4790 with 16bg (2x8) of ddr 3 ram on an MSI-7918-001R Mainboard Gaming 3 (yeah I know not the best choice for the Prozessor but hey it works). For graphics I got an GTX 1070 from ASUS. All of this is housed in an Corsair 600c inverted ATX case (I dont know why i bought an Inverted case and I´m considering buying another one). Furthermore, I have 2 1080p 60hz monitors though I´m planing to buy a 1440p 144hz monitor (got any recommendations?) meaning I will probably be running 3 monitors. What is my goal? I want to basically be able to support the mentioned monitor in the future for some time. I don´t really have an preference for either Intel or AMD though I want to stick with Nvidia. I don´t have any with issues doing upgrades piecemeal. So what should be the first thing to upgrade as I´m not planning on spending more than 400-600€ at once? What should be a road map for upgrading? On what releases or announcements/press events should I wait for? What is the best choice for processor and graphics card at the moment? Edit: Main task: gaming on a single screen for now (I´m intrested in ray tracing but not sure whether its worth it) and light video editing and 3d modeling ; PSU: BeQuiet! PowerZone 650W 80+Bronze BN210; Hope my vague descriptions are good enough for some help. Thanks in advance

So my current build is the list below (except for the video card which is the 4gb instead of the 8gb), the hard drive I have is the 2 TB version. For now I would say about a $300-$500 budget, I would like to stay with radeon graphics, less hassle with having to reinstall everything right now, just not sure where to start. So, want to upgrade my RAM in my current rig. When I first put it together, I had to make a compromise and go for a single stick of 16gb ddr4. i knew that it didn't take advantage of duel channel, but I was offered a good deal and didn't want to pass it up. Now I've made some upgrades and now my RAM is the only thing holding back my rig. I wanted to throw in another stick of the same model of ram but it appears its no longer available. So i thought about getting a single stick of 8gb from the same company. it would be the same clock speed and sub-speed. Would this be a good idea or should I look to buy an entirely new RAM kit. Looking to have more than 16gb but no more than 32gb Max budget is $150
