Is upgrading from a GTX 1650 to a RTX 4070 really worth it?
Grant M posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Is upgrading from my really old 1650 to a brand new RTX 4070 worth it considering the $550 price and the specs? I need some opinions. I like fortnite, minecraft, call of duty warzone, forza horizon 5, jedi fallen order, apex legends, counter strike, etc. I play at 1440p. CPU is a AMD Ryzen 5700g overclocked to 4.4 ghz RAM: 16 GB 3200mhz trident z neo MB: Asus ROG strix b450f-II gaming -

I currently have the Lenovo h420 PC running as my home server, and it's running a 2nd gen i3 CPU. The socket also supports 3rd Gen Intel cpus and I recently bought one to upgrade it for longer life. When installing the CPU, the PC fails to boot in any way, and when I put the 2nd gen CPU in it boots as if nothing has happened. I'm thinking that I may need a bios update but as the computer is running truenas scale, I can find out what bios version it's running. The motherboard is the Lenovo CIH61 v1.1. Can anyone help me or am I fighting a losing battle and should wait until I can find a 6th-generation motherboard with 4 RAM slots instead of just 2. (A new motherboard is just a very last resort.)

Hello everyone! I recently got an old Alienware Aurora R1 desktop from a friend. They didn't need it anymore and since I don't have a Windows machine to play games, I decided to take it. The hardware inside is the following: Intel i7 920 16 GB of DDR3 1600mhz ram, 4 4GB modules ATI Radeon HD 5970 500 GB 2,5 inch Intenso SSD wifi card proprietary Alienware motherboard (+daughterboard) proprietary Dell power supply The case is not in perfect condition, with a few scuffs and a lot of dust, but I did clean the main airways. The power button is broken, so a replacement button and LED are fitted. The case also has side lights, but I have not been able to get those working as the Alienware command center doesn't detect them for some reason. Lastly, I have been unable to measure any temps of the PC, so most likely there is something broken with the sensors (as far as I can tell, the machine doesn't overheat). Performance is not great. While playing Minecraft the framerate varies wildly from 80FPS when standing still, to 20 or even lower when walking and doing almost anything. My question is now, what should I do with it? I have two main options in mind: either I upgrade this machine and live with the defects, as well as the old motherboard, or I sell most if not everything, and then use it for a brand-new build. What are your suggestions? Thanks!

Country: India Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Blender Cycles, Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator, Cyberpunk 2077, Forza Horizon 5, Minecraft RTX SCENARIO: So, I have my system with me since almost 6 years, her name is Stygian and she is my first high end build. I majorly use her for my Automotive Design related projects along with Gaming and Entertainment. The specs are as follows: Intel Core i7 6700k / NVidia GeForce GTX 1070 FE / Asus Z170 Pro Gaming / HyperX DDR4 16GB RAM / Cooler Master MA610p / Adata SSD + WD HDD / Cooler Master G550M / Cooler Master CM Storm I have it paired with Logitech Mechs, Wacom Intuos, LG IPS 4K panel and HK Soundsticks 4 for my requirements. Elephant in the room: Now, I have a MSI NVidia GeForce RTX 3090 Suprim X sitting with me that I would love to use. The Plan: As I am not willing to spend too much of money on a computer in today's market (And do not wish to go through the pain of re-installing windows and migrate the data) I have planned something out: I will be investing a bit in a Cooler Master 850 Gold PSU, a Corsair or Lian Li Cabinet and a couple more RAM sticks, then just throw my current system into it along with the 3090, and keep my 1070 FE as a pretty trophy. I need help with: Knowing if it will be a 'survivable' enough combination, and/or if there are better ways I could plan this revamp out, as I have fallen quite off from the PC building world in past few years. I am willing to keep the 6700k and the mobo because it is good enough for my needs, and I don't wish to break my wallet that is being eaten by my car and bike and bike gear! Hope to know your views, thank you!

Budget (including currency): 1600-1800 EUR Country: Greece Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly any MMORPG (WoW, FFXIV, GW2 etc) while being able to run 2-3 instances of said games and watching youtube/movies on a second monitor. Upgrading from: Ryzen 5 1600, Asus Rog Strix B350-F Gaming, 2x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3600, Gigabyte GeForce GTX1060 6GB Windforce OC, Corsair CX Series CX650M 650W, Be Quiet Dark Rock 4, NZXT S340 Elite. Monitors: 1x BenQ 24" 1080p 60hz 1x Samsung 24" 1080p 60hz (I don't remember the model for either unfortunately) Upgrade Reasons: It's been a long time since I built this rig as you can tell from the parts and it started showing it's age a lot recently, I have to compromise a lot on the graphics to get some decent fps and it gets annoying. Goal: My main goal is to get a decent upgrade within my cash range and with some things in mind: 1. I want it to be somewhat power efficient. Electricity bills are a huge pain where I live so I'd like something that doesn't require my personal factory to power it. 2. I don't plan to upgrade anytime soon in the next 5 years so something that would last as long as my current rig would be great. If I would also have to upgrade a GPU later on but save everything else that would be fine too. 3. Other game titles are not really my priority, it wouldn't hurt to be able to play some Cyberpunk now and then but I finished it on my trusty 1060 so I can handle playing it on a low res. Current and future MMOs are my priority. 4. I don't have a preference for a CPU and GPU brand, whatever is cost and power efficient and pairs well with each other is good enough for me. Other details: Storage wise I'll keep my current ssds for now (1x NVMe Samsung and 3x Samsung sata 250GB, 500GB and 1TB). I'm also looking to upgrade my monitors on a later date (Not to be included on the current budget) but I'm not sure what options would be better. Should I aim for 1080p 144hz or go for 1440p 144hz? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated! I don't have any build prepared because I've been so out of touch with any recent releases and I didn't know where to begin.

Hello guys i will upgrade a friends pc in the next days and i im gonna add the MSI MAG B660M Bazooka DDR4 / Intel Core i3-12100F/Corsair CX CX550F RGB 550W/Kingston Fury Beast RGB 16GB DDR4 with the old pc parts gigabyte 1050ti 4gb gpu and an old 120gb sata ssd from his old system. Plus his old case(3 120cm fans) and 500gb hard drive. My main question is are the motherboards the same? I first i was gonna buy the msi pro b660mA but i was afraid with the bios support out of box with the intel i3 12100f because i saw the the intel i3 supported from march bios and after that was said i found that the msi mag b660m bazooks is almost the same motherboard and also saw that the cpu support of i3 12100f is better (the intel i3 12100f is supported with older bios from December. My main fear is that i buy the motherboard (b660mA pro) and the bios doesnt support the intel i3 12100f in that case i dont have an alternative cpu to upgrade the bios and i will have to send the mobo back for bios update.... Thats why i was looking the bazooka mobo which i found that support i3 12100f from bios update from December... (The b660ma pro have from late march) Also is the bazooka motherboard and b660ma pro almost same motherboards quality wisr? With different heatsinks? An some back io ports difference.

I have a pc that started as a prebuilt which I have done some upgrading to. It came with an i7 10700f, which I am still rocking. I bought a 3060 ti to replace the original gpu (yes, I replaced the psu to make sure it's high quality), and Amazon sent me a 4070 by mistake. So, now I have a 4070 with my i7 10700f. This isn't necessarily a terrible pair, but I think there is some performance left on the table. In demanding games - namely Jedi: Survivor - I notice when I enter new areas or when I'm in a large open area, there is some stuttering. My frames sit around 75-80 on average on high-ultra settings, but the stuttering is a little annoying. I'm not an expert, but I have a feeling this is a cpu issue. Can someone smarter than me tell me if that is accurate, or if there is something else that might cause that? If it's a cpu underperformance issue, then my idea is to upgrade from the 10700f to an i9 10900k. This is the best cpu that my motherboard is compatible with. Is it worth the upgrade for a bit better performance and perhaps some extra future-proofing? I would like for my pc to last as long as the 4070 is viable, and the main issue I see with that besides being stuck with ddr4 ram is that my cpu might not age well. I know the 10900k is an older chip as well, so ideally if I really want a future-proof machine I wouldn't buy a 3 or 4 generation old cpu. I don't really want to change the motherboard, though. Is there enough performance increase between those two cpus to warrant the change, and is the 10900k good enough to get by for 4-5 more years? If the answer is maybe, at what price (usd) would you say that maybe becomes a yes? I have a feeling people will say this simply isn't worth it, and that's fine. I'm just not knowledgeable enough to make that decision entirely by myself. Thanks!

Hi guys, I currently have a gaming pc of about 4 years old (see part list below) and for the bigger part of this and last year, I've started to notice that I can't play most new games on high or ultra anymore without having performance issues. I don't necesarilly want to upgrade this PC as I might donate it to my SO or sell it to fund some parts for a new PC build, but I am open to suggestions. On that note, I'd also like to add that while I like building a PC, I'm not up to date with the latest trends and news on what is the recommended hardware. Which is why I've ended up here! Budget: 3000 EUR - which would translate to around 3150 USD. Country: Belgium - but I'm open to builds based on US prices etc. Ordering from other European countries is also no issue. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I'll mostly be using the PC for gaming, multimedia and some photo editing in Lightroom and Photoshop. Other details: (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'm currently using a 4 year old computer with the following parts: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Wraith CPU COOLER: Corsair iCUE H100i RGB PRO XT 240mm MOBO: ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS Gaming RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4-3600 RGB (2x8GB) GPU: MSI RTX 2060 Super Gaming X 8GB SSD: ADATA XPG Gammix S11 Pro 1TB CASE: Fractal Design Meshify C Dark Tempered Glass midi tower FANS: 6x Corsair LL120 RGB Fans PSU: Corsair RM750 (2021) 750W OTHER: Corsair Vengeance RGB Kit (2 fake RAM sticks) Corsair Commander Pro Corsair Gaming K68 RGB keyboard Corsair M55 RGB Pro mouse DISPLAY: 1440p LG monitor (144Hz) 2x 1080 ASUS monitor As for what I'd like to ask: What would my current PC build be worth if I were to sell it? Is it worth upgrading my current PC build or would it be smarter to look into a new build since I have the budget (3K EUR 3.15K USD)? If I were to build a new PC, what are some recommendations for my preferences? 1440p gaming or higher Fits a Fractal Design North No/minimal RGB AMD processor preferred Thanks in advance for your help guys!

It's been almost a year since I first built my new custom loop PC so it's probably a good time to start thinking about doing a little loop maintenance, clean it out and put in some new liquid. *Knock on wood* I have had zero issues with the loop so far. This got me thinking that it would also be a good time to upgrade my case. While I am mostly happy with my Corsair 5000D I didn't realize at the time I was limiting myself to a pair of slim 360mm radiators which don't seem to be quite doing the job of cooling my Ryzen 5 7600x and RTX 4080. Originally I was looking at the Hyte Y60 but I couldn't find a Canadian retailer to buy from for MSRP. Is that still a good option and what other cases should I look at, like the 5000D's big brother the 7000D?

Budget (including currency): under $500 CAD but open to suggestions Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Data Science, light gaming (rocket league, CS, Dota, Brawlhalla, etc.) Other details Current specs: Ryzen 7 2700 GTX 1070 B450M Pro4 32 GB RAM (8x4) EVGA 650w 80+ Gold I’m looking to get into Data Science where I work with AI/ML. The RTX Cards have Tensor Cores which I think might be beneficial for when I explore Deep Learning. I also do a bit of light gaming on the side (can’t really find a lot of time these days) just 1080p 144hz with a secondary monitor just running at 1080p 60hz. Which GPU should I buy? I’m thinking of upgrading my CPU later down the line to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D so I don’t want a GPU that will bottleneck that. Any suggestions?

Budget (including currency): Variable as I'll be upgrading as I hit the budget points for my plan. Country: Turkey Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Modern games such as CP2077, Horizon Forbidden West (once it drops to PC), Star Citizen etc. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): (Copied over from my post from r/pcupgrade) Current build is Mobo: MSI A320m Pro Max GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 3060 Aero ITX CPU: Ryzen 5 5600 (up from 2600) CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Spectrum (up from stock) Ram: Geil 2x8gb CL15 3200 DDR4 Storage: 480 m.2 SSD Storage2: 256 SATA SSD PSU: Corsair CX550F 550W 80+ Bronze Case: Just a regular ITX case with 2 120mm fans (it says Xigmatek Vanguard Plus 600W on the invoice, however the product isn't listed anymore for me to get any more details) Display: 1920x1080 Philips 23'' 165hz (Freesync) Display2: 2160x1080 LG 21.5'' 60hz I am on 1080p mainly because if I don't want to get used to better visual fidelity before being able to have the performance to match up with it. That means no monitor upgrades before a 4070 (and I'll go up to 1440p only then :3) I don't have exact model numbers due to making this post while away from my PC for a while I am trying to plan a path to upgrades that'll keep me able to play the most recent games at least on Medium settings while keeping my things relevant. I also don't know anything about cases, don't know how they'd affect performance or anything, so I have not planned a case upgrade at all at any point. I know I will switch to Noctua brand case fans at some point due to just liking the brand and hearing good things about it. My use case is mainly gaming alongside some 3d rendering (Actually got the 12gb 3060 over 8gb 3060ti for this reason). I don't care if a product has RGB or not, I'd prefer not if all things are same though. I was thinking that I should get an ITX mobo and a 650w powersupply to prepare for the future upgrades (ryzen 7 5800x3d and a 4070 once 5000 series drops). The reason I am not waiting for an upgrade to AM5 is that I think my current motherboard is just not enough and I don't have the budget for AM5+CPU anytime soon anyway. https://www.amazon.com.tr/MSI-A650GF-650W-POWER-SUPPLY/dp/B08MWCKD43/ref=sr_1_51?qid=1696838698&s=computers&sr=1-51&th=1 This is the 650W I was thinking about, as I like the MSI brand personally (not to the point of picking them over others if they offer better price for performance though) https://www.amazon.com.tr/B550-Gaming-Plus-Ddr4-Usb3-2/dp/B08B4V6H3N/ref=sr_1_8?__mk_tr_TR=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=b550+itx+motherboard&qid=1696839406&s=computers&sr=1-8 and this is the Motherboard that'd go along with it. Personally I don't understand much about PSU's besides knowing 80+ is good, gold is better than bronze and modular means less cables overflowing (I have no idea what MPG means though) Same with the motherboard, I don't know what are the differences between various chipsets, I just want to have an ITX one over m-ITX because I think it looks better. If anyone has any advice that fits similar budget constraints, I'd be happy to hear it If I were to wait for an AM5 upgrade that'd take at least 2-3 months and even then I'd have to settle for a mid-low tier CPU. + it'd delay me getting a 4070 anytime soon.

I have a Z420 workstation and upgraded it recently. I swapped out the Quadro k4000 for an RX 580 and switched the E5-1620 out of my system for an E5-2690. After I swapped out the GPU, I've been experiencing severe FPS drops mid-game. At the beginning of a game, I get and average of 130 fps, and then out of nowhere, it spikes down to 30 fps then back to 130 fps, and keeps happening repeatedly sometimes with short intervals if I'm lucky. I really want to get to the bottom of this because this happening when I had the old GPU in my system so someone pls help.

So I upgraded my pc to the point it is almost a new build i am using my existing case and gpu. The build is; Asus tuf b550 plus motherboard Ryzen 7 5700x Arctic alpine 23 cpu cooler 32gb corsair vengeance ddr4 ram Msi 1660ti gpu Thermaltake 600w 80+ psu Case is from cyberpower Storage is 250 ssd and 1tb hdd which i will update when i get more funds. I built the pc earlier today and did boot up several times and i was able to update bios, play games, watch youtube and all general use. I shut down the pc after i was happy it was working well for well over an hour, to come back later and it does not boot up. Nobody had been on the pc and it had not been moved. The motherboard has rgb lighting which still lights up when the 24pin connector is in and jumping the power on the front panel isnt working with and without the gpu installed. Does anybody have any idea what else I can check?

Hello everyone, I'm back here again. I've just added some minor upgrades to my PC (3x BeQuiet Light Wings case fans and a set of 2x 16 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB RS RAM modules) to my PC. At first, it refused to boot until I unplugged my 2nd monitor and checked if everything was seated correctly. Sure enough, everything was properly in place and it booted. So in my next step, I went into the BIOS settings to turn on PWM for the case fans, as well as enabled the RAM to clock at it's rated speeds. After that, same issue as before. PC turns on without display output, likely not posting. Thanks for the help in advance.

Recently I posted on this forum for the first time. I needed help choosing a GPU to upgrade my PC with. The good news is that I got myself a 6700 XT with a great deal and I'm absolutely loving it so far, playing Hogwarts Legacy 1080p at ultra settings. (Upgraded from a GTX 1060 6GB) I'm starting to look for a CPU upgrade because, as discussed in my GPU upgrade thread, the 6700 XT is getting bottlenecked in more CPU-demanding scenes. Hogwarts Legacy is running at 56 fps average, but still. I see that there is more potential and with new and more demanding games coming on my Steam wishlist, I’m realizing that a CPU upgrade is in order in a few months. I purchased the 6700 XT full well knowing it will bottleneck. It went on sale and I got it for the price of a 6650 XT/6700-nonXT. Budget: 400-450€? As little as possible, but still decent hardware. Country: Estonia (Europe) Monitor: 4K 55'' TV. I’m mostly playing at 1080p, but for games that I can run at 1440p I will run at 1440p like Uncharted. Games: Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, The Last of Us, Uncharted, (The Witcher 3), Starfield. Goal: Play these games with high – very high settings @ 60fps. Current build: CPU: Intel i5-7600 (non-K) GPU: AMD RX 6700 XT MoBo: MSI H270 TOMAHAWK ARCTIC RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 32GB 2400 (4x8GB) PSU: Corsair CX650M Storage: Samsung 500GB SATA SSD + 2TB HDD Cooler: Be quiet! Pure Rock BK009 Case: NZXT S340 Elite Requirements for new build: Won’t bottleneck my RX 6700 XT. Other: I’d like to change as few components as possible, if possible. But what kind of bottleneck will 2400-speed RAM be on a newer platform? Or is the PSU getting to an age that for safety, I should upgrade that as well? It’s been in my system since 2017. I don’t have different mounting hardware for the cooler so that has to be replaced. I’ve looked at upgrading to a 7700k, but I can’t find any in my local marketplaces. New ones are still listed for 300+€ new… I don’t know where to begin with looking up current-gen hardware and what is good and what is not. Gen 4 PCIe and resizable bar and so on… I'm not loyal to any brand. I’m hoping to get multiple possible paths forward. I want to thank everyone who had the time to read all this and has decided to give me some advice! It means a lot!

Budget (including currency): <$500USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Baldur's Gate 3, It Takes 2, Split Screen Games in General as well as catching up on From Software's Library Resolutions/Refresh Targets: 1080p/60-120fps (singleplayer) 4k/30-60fps (steam link to game room for splitscreen/singleplayer on a 4k TV) Details: I recently purchased a new graphics card (MSI Gaming Z Trio 6800) and I've been enjoying the new life it's given my PC (coming from an EVGA 1060 6GB) but I know I need to upgrade my CPU. The thing is, I'm not sure where to go with it. I'm thinking about going with the AM5 since I'm rather envious of the position my cousin is in (He's got a Ryzen 5 1600 and plenty of upgrade path) but I'm not sure if the performance/upgrade advantage is worth the price right now compared to an AM4 or LGA1700(12th gen) platform. I don't really believe in future proofing, but I would like a nice upgrade path. My main goal right now is to be able to play BG3 split screen without worrying about it crashing as has been happening which I'm sure is due to the CPU. **A CPU that comes with a cooler isn't necessarily required, but it's a plus as I have a tower cooler from Cooler Master, but It was given to me so I don't know the model or if it can be adapted to either of these platforms** Existing Build: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wVNDqR CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor (Purchased For $0.00) Motherboard: MSI Z97 Guard-Pro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (Purchased For $0.00) Memory: G.Skill Ares 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR3-2400 CL11 Memory (Purchased For $0.00) Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Video Card: MSI GAMING Z TRIO Radeon RX 6800 16 GB Video Card (Purchased For $0.00) Case: Rosewill REDBONE ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $0.00) Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2023) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $0.00) Wireless Network Adapter: Gigabyte GC-WBAX200 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax PCIe x1 Wi-Fi Adapter (Purchased For $0.00) Monitor: MSI Optix G242P 23.8" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor (Purchased For $0.00) Keyboard: Keychron K4 V2 RGB Bluetooth/Wired Standard Keyboard (Purchased For $0.00) Mouse: Corsair SCIMITAR RGB ELITE Wired Optical Mouse (Purchased For $0.00) Headphones: Sennheiser HD600 Headphones (Purchased For $0.00) Total: $0.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2023-10-04 12:14 EDT-0400 AM5 Idea: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KL2bKX CPU: *AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor ($218.24 @ Amazon) Motherboard: ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 Micro ATX AM5 Motherboard ($124.99 @ Amazon) Memory: *Silicon Power SP032GXLWU600FDEAE 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL40 Memory ($76.97 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Video Card: MSI GAMING Z TRIO Radeon RX 6800 16 GB Video Card (Purchased For $0.00) Case: Rosewill REDBONE ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $0.00) Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2023) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $0.00) Wireless Network Adapter: Gigabyte GC-WBAX200 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax PCIe x1 Wi-Fi Adapter (Purchased For $0.00) Monitor: MSI Optix G242P 23.8" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor (Purchased For $0.00) Keyboard: Keychron K4 V2 RGB Bluetooth/Wired Standard Keyboard (Purchased For $0.00) Mouse: Corsair SCIMITAR RGB ELITE Wired Optical Mouse (Purchased For $0.00) Headphones: Sennheiser HD600 Headphones (Purchased For $0.00) Total: $420.20 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available *Lowest price parts chosen from parametric criteria Generated by PCPartPicker 2023-10-04 12:19 EDT-0400 LGA1700 Idea: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9Bk789 CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F 2.5 GHz 6-Core Processor ($149.97 @ Amazon) Motherboard: ASRock B660M Pro RS Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($94.99 @ Amazon) Memory: Silicon Power XPOWER Turbine 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($29.97 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Video Card: MSI GAMING Z TRIO Radeon RX 6800 16 GB Video Card (Purchased For $0.00) Case: Rosewill REDBONE ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $0.00) Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2023) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $0.00) Wireless Network Adapter: Gigabyte GC-WBAX200 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax PCIe x1 Wi-Fi Adapter (Purchased For $0.00) Monitor: MSI Optix G242P 23.8" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor (Purchased For $0.00) Keyboard: Keychron K4 V2 RGB Bluetooth/Wired Standard Keyboard (Purchased For $0.00) Mouse: Corsair SCIMITAR RGB ELITE Wired Optical Mouse (Purchased For $0.00) Headphones: Sennheiser HD600 Headphones (Purchased For $0.00) Total: $274.93 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2023-10-04 12:47 EDT-0400

Hello guys, I am upgrading my old system (4790k) to am5. Last fabruary I got a used 3080 to replace my 980 and now I decided that this old platform needs to go. I ve ordered aourus b650 elite ax, 32 gigs of trident z 6000 cl30, samsung 990 pro and a mount for my nh d15s. Now only the cpu is left, I am choosing between 7700x and 7800x3d the price difference in my country is a bit more than 100 usd. Should I pay more for the 3d v cache, considering that my gpu is only a 3080 10gb? I'll be playing some online games on my 1080p 144hz monitor and singleplayer games on my 4k oled tv. I was searching for benchamrks, but found only ones with a 4090, where understandably the difference will be higher than on my gpu.

I am also not a tech expert at all. I built this by watching YouTube videos which is also how I discovered LTT. I am mostly curious and if I don't upgrade or the advice is upgrading from what I have creates a bottleneck which in turn, leads to more parts needing updating etc, then I am happy to leave it for now, but Christmas is on the horizon so thinking of an early self present Every part listed above would have been bought in August 2018 except the CPU which is about a year old. So I'm quite happy that everything has worked without issue (so far) for 5 years. I don't play exclusive AAA games although the newer games on the horizon are starting to look a little spec heavy. According to Can I Run It, I meet the minimum and recommended specs for AC Mirage which feels surprising but in a good way. Cities 2 says I reach the minimum but not the recommended. It suggests the CPU should be at least a 5600x and GPU should be a 2080 Ti. My extremely uneducated opinion points to upgrading the GPU? I am happily surprised at how well this 1070 has held up, including running RDR2, AC Odysessy and Valhalla with relative comfort. I am not someone craving for the best - hundreds of FPS at 4K, just a well-running 1080p experience with consistent frames and a high (if not extreme) level of detail. The one thing I have zero knowledge about at all is the power supply, specifically if what I have now is only just enough for the power to handle and therefore any upgrade to the GPU would necessitate an upgrade in power supply. Apologies for the long post, I am just looking for a little advice from people far more knowledgeable. Appreciate there's not any detail on budget but it's kinda open, so if someone says, there's an incredible deal on this GPU and you can buy it, plug it in and go then I can look at that. Thanks! -

Hello LTT Community! I am soon to be looking into upgrading my CPU and i figured around this time of year would have been a good time, While im not so desperate to upgrade due to still running a i9 10900k which is a few generations old now but still a very good performer for most systems. I am hestitant to bite the bullet and upgrade my platform as while current intel and amd offering are very good we are on the edge of new generations coming, with intel 14th gen this year being more of a refinement generation and the disapoiting news meterorite lake wont be coming to the desktop in the way we want. Then with the news that AMD is gearing up for the launch of Zen 5 at the start of next year, its put me in a tough postion as to waiting to upgrade and for how long do i wait. When i bought my 10900k back in may 2020 i really enjoyed it however i did feel buyers remorse when ryzen 5000 came out later that year and i dont want to feel like i am repeating that pattern, In this industry that is always the risk we are always playing. It is the same feeling of do i bite the bullet and hop on ryzen 7000 or intel 13th/14th gen (As 14th Gen comes out this month). Maybe 14th gen launch will make ryzen 7000 and intel 13th fall in price, or is it worth holding out and see if waiting out for Zen 5 will be a much worth while investment, both in time and money. When i do come to upgrade i would very much be wanting to upgrade to an i9 or a Ryzen 9 as i would very much like to upgrade my core count too and i am whilling to spend around £500 to £600 GBP for my next CPU, i just want to make sure that i can make the correct choice when it comes to dropping this much on this platform upgrade, i am currently so torn between what generation to hold out for aswell as if i go AMD or intel. I have no brand loayaties, so the only brand i want to give my money is the one who is offering the best performance for the price. If the community has any adivce and addition insight, your wisdom, views and opinions would be more appreicated on this. I want to make the best and most informed decison that i can so the wisdom of the wider community will greatly help! Thank you for taking the time to read all this, Maddie
