Hi guys, I owned a Sony Vaio Fit 14 (SVF14A15SGB). I've upgraded the laptop with SSD and additional 4GB of RAM (originally 4GB soldered to the board). The laptop is running windows 10 Pro UEFI mode I rarely use this laptop, one day when I try to boot the laptop, the booting process is EXTREMELY slow, by booting process I mean the spinning circle before entering windows. First thing that come to my mind is either virus or dead SSD. I waited patiently until the computer finishes its boot process and run asSSD benchmark. The result was fine, read and write is fast. I also notice that windows runs just fine, speedy as usual. Next I reformatted the SSD and do a clean install of windows 10. This doesn't help either, the boot process is still very slow. I even tried removing the extra RAM to see if it is the problem, but the problem persists. I'm also on the latest BIOS from SONY. Can anyone suggest what should I do to troubleshoot my problem? Is this some kind of BIOS virus?

Hi, All of a sudden I have a really weird boot problem that I can't get my head around. Firstly, my system specs are: - Intel Core i7 4960X - 64GB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 - Asus Sabertooth X79 - Gigabyte GTX970 G1 Gaming - SanDisk Extreme 240GB SSD L I do have other bits, but this is all that is connected at present to try and troubleshoot this issue. A couple of days ago when I turned my PC it failed to boot, even though it's been working fine for approx 18 months with no issue and no new hardware or software was installed. The error I got stated that "the current BIOS setting are not fully supported and you need to go to your BIOS advanced setting and adjust your CMS settings" [sic] (photo attached). Following the instructions, I went into BIOS to make the suggested CSM changes. This made no difference and had same message again. Went back into BIOS and taking more notice realised my OS SSD had disappeared and was not detected. This made me initially think it was an SSD failure. However, I cleared CMOS by resetting using the battery removal method. Started the machine back up and this time the SSD was detected. Upon booting it automatically went into an automatic repair and said that it was "repairing disk errors and might take over an hour to complete". Once done, after a couple of hours, it said the drive was repaired and ready to boot. This therefore made me think it was not a motherboard failure, but a random anomaly. However, upon rebooting it went back into the previous error of being undetected in BIOS and giving me the CMS error on boot. I tried a couple of times and this seemed to be cyclical, and a cycle I couldn't get out of. to troubleshoot a bit, I use different SATA ports and different SATA cables and all got the same results. This made me think again it was an SSD failure. However, I took out the SSD and hooked up to my Surface Pro using a SATA to USB 3.0 connector cable. To my frustration, the drive seemed to be detected as you would expect and seemed to allow for reading and writing to and from the SSD. This obviously made me think it was not an SSD failure. I then stuck an old mechanical 3.5" in my PC and the boot process seemed to go as normal, giving me the boot error you would expect if no OS on the drive, implying the motherboard is working fine, i.e. the no boot loader prompt. I then downloaded the latest BIOS (4801) which I already had and flashed it onto the mobo. This seemed to make no difference. By now I am all out of ideas and stumped. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions would be HUGELY appreciated, especially if you're aware or have come across this issue before!

I have an HP omen laptop (the 2014 metal edgy one with a 960m) Recently, I tried upgrading the SSD to a brand new 1TB Intel 600p. I then installed Windows 10 on it (Installer recognized it and everything, no problems) However, it refuses to boot from the SSD and says that there's no OS installed. I've tried updating the UEFI firmware, enabled legacy boot mode, disabled secure boot, reinstalled Windows multiple times, and the same problem persists. Logically, this thing would happen if there's no bootloader, but I put the exact same drive into my desktop and it booted up just fine. Therefore, that can't be the problem and I must be missing something I don't know about. Any help is appreciated

Fellow Techies, I received a motherboard (i bought on ebay) to replace my dead board that is in the process of RMA. Will updating the bios (without the hard drives installed) cause any problems? I would update it via usb. Thank you in advance.

1) I'm aware UEFI BIOS is technically of redundant/contradictory but whatever 2) Not really sure if this belongs in OS forum... I just bought an Acer Switch Alpha 12 to carry around when I'm not home with my nice gaming dektop. I went into the bios to see how much control I had and it was... basically 0. I can set a password and set up a bios recovery partition... that's about it. Is there a reliable/semi-safe way of getting a nicer feature set here? Like some ram settings, cpu feature options, etc?

Hello everyone, first post, since I didn't know where to post i will post here, hoping it's in the right section I have a gigabyte Z170X gaming 7 motherboard, paired with a Samsung 950 PRO NVMe SSD M.2, the problem is that I can't install Windows when "Storage Boot Option Control" in UEFI mode, as when it is set as UEFI the ssd isn't recognized in the BIOS, but during the installation process I can see it, altough I cannot install Windows because the installer says that the controller is not set to be capable to install to the ssd. Instead, when the boot oprion is set to legacy I can install on the ssd no problema at all, but I don't think I will usae the performance of the ssd at its best in Legacy mode Bios version is F20, I have a 6600K, 16GB RAM Did anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how to solve it? Any type of help is appreciated!

I have an X99 Deluxe with American Megatrends 3402 UEFI and triple asus GTX980 strix GPUs in PCIEX16_1, PCIEX16_2 and PCIEX16_4 in SLI configuration. PCIEX16_5 is set to X8 disabling M.2 slot although the slot is currently unused. In the UEFI GPU Post tool, I can only see 2 GPUs in PCIEX16_2 and PCIEX16_4 with an exclamation beside it. The GPU in PCIEX16_1 does not show up in GPU Post. When I boot to either windows or linux, I can see all 3 devices in either device manager or lspci | grep -i vga and they work fine and as expected. Nvidia control panel and GPU tweak also registers all 3. What can I do to make the first GPU show up in the UEFI GPU Post?

Hello Forum, I have created a problem for myself. I'm hoping you can assist me in resolving it without the need to reinstall Windows 7 Professional. My boot drive is a 500GB Samsung SSHD in GPT format which is recommended for SSHD. I boot on an ASUS Z170-A LGA1151 Motherboard. I was recently playing around with VeraCrypt, a branch off of Truecrypt software, when I must have tried to encrypt the whole drive where the OS resides instead of encrypting a drive I had plugged in via USB. Not just the OS partition, but the whole drive. The program encountered an error stating that the drive was in use or active or something and did not allow me to continue. I then realized I had selected the wrong process and proceeded with the correct encryption method. Long story short, I ran the computer without rebooting for over a week when suddenly I had issues transferring files to portable medium. As soon as I restart my PC, I lost the ability to boot. The motherboard will post, attempt to boot the drive, then fail to ASUS UEFI without any error messages. None. Just a white line before UEFI. I've since installed and boot other OS partitions to my ASUS without issues so I do not believe my motherboard is the problem. I have taken the affected drive and installed in different computers and it will also not boot there. The storage partition is completely intact. I can browse every file on the disk when connected to a different PC but there is a 1MB partition before my OS partition that I believe is corrupted. I've attempted Windows startup repair from a CD and that didn't work. I've run fdisk on the drive. I believe I have corrupted the boot partition, but I'm only firmiliar with MBR repair, I have no experience rebuilding GPT /EFI information. I did not yet have a backup of this drive. I've created an image of this drive in case I screw something up. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to manually rebuild the boot partition for a GPT drive? I appreciate the help,

I have been trying at this for weeks. I've gone over all of the tutorials and threads that I could find, I've tried my own tricks (converting Windows from BIOS to UEFI), I cannot get this to work. My build utilizes a GA-H110M-A Mobo, which supports a Trusted Platform Module. I bought a Gigabyte TPM Module, and put it in. I enabled Trusted Platform support, booted into Windows, looked up a tutorial on how to set up a TPM, and my problem was that the "Initialize TPM" option was missing. I cleared the TPM, accepted the request within the BIOS, and then booted into Windows. The same thing occurred. Issue: TPM has no initialize option in tpm.msc Proposed solution to said starting problem: Clear the TPM. Result of said solution: Nothing was changed, let alone solved. Can anybody please help me in this?

My newly built desktop has to go through the bios and uefi everytime before I go into Windows. Is my boot order incorrect? Also, do I get that cpu error because of the liquid cooling fan or I had it wrong?

Hi, i just build a new pc with a msi z270 board and an intel i5 7600k. Everything works but when I tried to recover windows from a recovery image disk I got the problem that the disk was not correct. It seems that the image was made from a system using bios and the new system uses a uefi system. I tried a few things but then gave up and just reinstalled a clean version of windows. I just would like to know how I can prevent this in the future. When I made the backup image I got no warning that there could be problems when trying to reinstall on another system. I even think that the image was made on a bios system, it was an asus B85M-G board with a 4570 (i think) processor, also running windows 10 64. Is there anyone who can give me some more info with this? Thanks

Hey guys, yesterday I installed Windows 10 on my newly build pc, but in a video from Paul's Hardware he explains you should select the option of the bootable usb that says "UEFI:". I accidentally selected the other option and I was wondering if there was another way to fix this besides reinstalling Windows 10 as that would take me way too much time. Thanks!

So I built a new Ryzen 7 build, And I put the OS on my SSD but the problem is it's 30GB so I'm already hurting so I wanted to clone it and move it to a spare 300GB HDD i have so I used Macrium and cloned it perfectly and then tried to boot off of it and it says no OS found so I went into bios and the SSD says it's Uefi and the HD says its not? Could this be why it's not finding OS? I have a Msi B350 Tomahawk with the Bios updated to date and I found an option saying Uefi+Legacy supported so Is the HDD legacy? I'm just so confused. I just want more C:) drive space.

Hi, I decided to update my BIOS on my A68HM-PLUS motherboard. At first, it went alright, but when it restarted itself after the update, it doesn't post. All the fans do turn on, but nothing happens on the screen. I was just wondering if I could try to fix this, or I have to buy a new motherboard. Also, would there be any other broken parts?

Please let me know by put it in the comment if you know/have it^^ Thanks My Poteto w/ Annoying Double-Clicky Mouse :v

I built myself a new PC earlier this year. It runs great, but the boot times seem to be really slow. I'm running a Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev 1.1) motherboard. (More PC specs to follow at the end of post.) When I start it up, it spends 20 to 30 seconds on the Gigabyte logo screen. So if I'm going to go into the UEFI settings, or select a different boot drive, I'm mashing those keys for a long time. Once it gets past that point to where it wants to load Windows up, it works just fine. No slowdown to speak of. In an effort to speed things up, I've paired down the available boot devices to just the two SSDs that I boot from. (I have a multiboot setup) For various reasons, I do not have Fast Boot or Ultra Fast Boot enabled in Windows or my UEFI. But, then, I have a laptop at work that I use. Fast Boot isn't enabled there, either, but it gets into Windows a lot faster. (I should add that this faster-booting work laptop also doesn't have specs anywhere near as good as the desktop I'm having all this trouble with.) Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! PC Specs: CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 980 MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (Rev: 1.1) With latest F20d firmware) Boot SSD: Samsung 500GB SATA Storage HDD: Western Digital 3TB HDD OS: Windows 10 Pro

Hi there. I am bulding a modest gaming pc that should work also as my personal machine. Meaning I am planning on dual boot (windows for games and adobe; debian for the rest). Thing is, I am trying to decide over a mobo (nowadays Asus H110M-M.2 is on the top) but I am concerned about the BIOS coming with UEFI. Anyone know if it can be changed to legacy? Is there a f--g secure boot? I am aksing this because in the past I encountered problems between Linux and UEFI, and I wanna be sure it won't be the case with the new mobo. thanks.

I am trying to install windows xp pro sp3 but it simply will not boot from cd nor usb. the screen just turns blakc and the hdd activity led stays on 100% of the time while not doing anything (i guess since nothing on the drive is changing nor on is the cd or usb being accessed). i flashed my uefi to the latest version. any ideas on how to fix it? my setup: asus z170 pro gaming i5-6600k 16gb gskill ripjaw 3ghz ddr4 ram some shitty harddrives that function fine for now. running on igpu atm. seasonic g-550
