Hi! First, I apologize if I misworded the title, I'm not fully knowledgeable in this field. Anyway, my SSD probably died 2 days ago. I can't boot to windows, can't reinstall windows, and all I could do was copy things off of it, but other than that it was write protected and I couldn't cancel it in any way. Now, I brought an old hard drive which has Windows 7 on it, so I could at least boot. The drive didn't show in UEFI mode, so I had to change to CSM/legacy to boot from it. The problem is that my keyboard and mouse don't work now. They work in the bios, but as soon as I boot into windows they stop working (they both have lights, and they turn off when starting to boot). I'd appreciate any help regarding this issue. Thank you!

So when I boot into the UEFI advanced startup options screen, I'm missing a few of these options in the screen below for some reason. Only 'Startup Repair' and 'UEFI Firmware Settings' shows up, and I'm assuming the latter is supposed to take me right into the motherboard BIOS right? I did recently change my disc partition from MBR to GPT, so maybe something got corrupted in the process?

New boot manager entry created every time I start up my pc
yelifiv posted a topic in Troubleshooting
This started happening after I installed Pop OS! alongside Windows 10 dual boot and using gnu grub bootloader Every time I boot up my PC a new boot entry is added to my boot manager inside my bios. All the entries are exaclty the same have the following name : UEFI: SAMSUNG MZHPU512HCGL-00000, Partition 7 I already tried removing all of them with bcdedit /delete on my windows os but they keep reappearing. Does anyone know how to fix this or what might be causing it, it's annoying and I'm scared if they pile up it might cause errors. -
Bios cant boot in uefi mode Edit; I don't know why but resetting my computer after completely powering it off has some how solved the problem.

Hey guys, I have issues running some games after my update to Win11. I need to enable secure boot. Everytime I have tried it, my pc doesn't boot up. It gets stuck showing "AsRock" with the press f2 to enter bios prompt, but I can't enter the bios without resetting by removing the cmos battery... I tried the following When I enter the bios, I set in Advanced/CPU Config AMD fTPM switch to AMD CPU fTPM Security/Secure Boot Secure Boot Mode to standard Security/Secure Boot Secure Boot to enable this gives me the follwing error message: "disable the csm in setup, repeat operations after rebooting to ensure uefi video driver is operational" then i try the follwing to turn off csm Boot/CSM CSM to disbable when I now try to enable secure boot, I get the message from above again. When I save and restart i get the problem with not booting (see above) My system: Ryzen 5 3600 (stock) RX 5700 XT (stock) v22.2.1(most recent) As Rock B450M Pro4 v5.3 (most recent) 16 GB Ram c: 970 EVO 1TB GPT d: CT500MC 500 GB Win11 (since today, problems started right away…) Update: the not booting error just occurred after normal restart without doing anything to bios. Weird… Update2: reinstalled windows, same problem. Also when choosing fast boot instead of just deactivating csm without turning fast boot on. Starting to think the problem might not be fixable, I’ve contacted asrock, but I’m still hoping for someone here to be able to help me attachment 1: picture of screen I’m stuck on

Hi guys, I managed to upset my brand new PC trying to do windows update to get windows 11. Their app said I can’t as I need to enable secure boot but when I changed it in bios and came back, it still said I had the same problem. Went back into the bios and tried un-enabling and re-enabling it and now it just keeps loading back into the bios when ever I reboot the system, without pressing f2. it can see my m.2 but In boot menu it says I have no bootable device. Any idea how I can get back into windows please? Why is windows being such an arse anyway? I totally meet the requirements according to this from ASUS but that’s by-the-by until I can at least figure out what I messed up that’s preventing me from getting back into windows. “2021/07/24 20.24 MBytes ROG STRIX X570- GAMING BIOS 4005 Support Windo/Vs 11 by default, no settings changes required in the UEFI BIOS” Details of the dream pc: Windows 10 pro 64 bit x570i Motherboard ryzen 5900x coolee master 850sfx psu 3090fe Spent over a year hunting a 3080 and ended up getting the 3090FE at msrp for cheaper than any 3080 I could find. Saved up for 10 years and had to get really deep into procurement to get the parts but am a complete and utter ignoramus, hence why I managed to mess up a brand new pc! Any help much much appreciated thankx, Annie

uefi Cannot enter UEFI of Gigabyte Z490 VISION D (Windows 10)
ramimLFC posted a topic in Troubleshooting
During POST my monitors do not receive any video signal. The displays only receive signal once the Windows 10 Login screen appears. As a result I am unable to enter the UEFI menu. I tried repeatedly tapping the Del key, which is supposed to be the key that takes you into the UEFI menu, during startup. I've also tried to enter BIOS using the "Start > Power > Shift + Reset and then Navigating to the option that boots to UEFI" method. It still only ends up showing the Windows login screen. Can you please help me to diagnose the problem? Guys I'm new to forums so apologies if I'm doing anything wrong. I wanted to get win 11 so I ran the pc health check and followed steps to enable tpm 2.0. I did that and got an update for win 11 without enabling secure boot. However, when I tried playing valorant I got an error that said secure boot was needed so I looked up how to enable that. My mobo is gigabyte b550m aorus elite. I went to the BIOS and disabled CSM and exited and rebooted my pc. Then again to the bios and enabled secure boot. This is where it goes bad. My system seemed like it booted but I had no display. O did everything from changing displays to cables, nothing worked. So I removed the CMOS and reset the bios. I reverted back to Windows 10 and followed the same procedure, but again the same results. And by drives are already GPT and Windows shows bios as uefi. GPU is 1660 super. What am I missing? Please help.

Hello all, This is my first post here really looking to get help on this issue. I recently upgraded boot drive on my custom build PC. I went from a Samsung 970 Evo to a WD Black SN 850. Motherboard is an MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi with the latest click BIOS 5 and the boot type is set to UEFI not Legacy+UEFI I am able to install Windows just fine from USB but when I power off the PC and power it back on, I go straight into BIOS. The only way to boot into Windows is to press my PC Case's reset button afterwards Other things I noticed are that my SN850 is no longer recognized in BIOS, but it was earlier and was recognized as an empty drive in slot 0 when installing Windows and still recognized in the Windows OS with no errors as far as I can tell From my research hit looks like I Should be having some sort of windows boot drive as a boot option but I do not get that Before this attempt at installing windows I had another attempt but accidentally left it on Legacy+UEFI (please note that when I had my samsung 970 it was also UEFI) and I was getting a similar issue there except it was a black screen with white text at the top asking to insert boot device and restart computer. Again, this only happened when turning on PC after being off and was resolved by pressing reboot button on my PC case It was also trying to boot from my second drive for some reason which is a WD SN750 even though it was set to the 850 so I went back into bios and set it back to 850. I have tried to reinstall a 3rd time with only my SN850 inserted into the motherboard but I get the same issue and the SSD is still not being recognized in the BIOS, it says it's an empty slot but it's connected and it was showing up earlier. Edit: I have an update on this issue: so it looks like resetting CMOS helped with SN850 recognition and was able to set the boot drive to be the windows oot device but the second I powered off my PC and powered int back on, the SN850 went back to not being detected

Hi, I'd like to change my BIOS mode to EUFI from legacy if possible. I couldn't see anything in the BIOS settings. Could someone run me through how to change it please? I've enabled TPM2 and SB for Win11 but I think I need to be on UEFI BIOS mode to install Win11 when available. I have an Asrock A320M-HDV R4.0

So I purchased a used msi z390 gaming pro carbon motherboard from a seller on ebay that sells tons of used working motherboards. When I recieved the board I couldn't test it right away bc I had problems getting a 9900k. I wasn't able to get a cpu until a few months later and when I assembled the pc I was shocked to see that the bios for the board was actually for a z390 gaming edge ac model. What's even weirder is the pc seem to work perfectly fine with the wrong bios. Long story short I started to notice when I play gtav online I would crash to the desktop randomly everytime I played. Sometimes it would take awhile but every single time I played it would happen. So its unplayable. I tested a million things and eventually determined that the reason this was happening was bc the motherboard has the wrong bios. So I tried to install the correct bios for the board. I tried several diffrent bios versions for the z390 gaming pro carbon but can't get the bios update to start bc the compatibility check that it does for the correct bios. Basically the board is identifying as a edge board and will not let me put the carbon bios on it. So I'm confused how the hell someone got the edge bios on the board in the first place ? I can't open a dispute with the seller or request a refund bc its been so long since I bought it. I basically got scammed. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? The board works fine for anything but gaming. Im thinking there could be some way of making a custom bios that skips the compatibility check and put the carbon bios on but I don't know how to do stuff like that. Anyone Please help!

My ultimate aim is to get the hard disk formatted GPT rather than MBR and boot accordingly. The laptop boots from USB as long as "Legacy Support" is enabled in BIOS. When I change this to disabled the laptop won't boot from USB and reports the hard disk error originally mentioned. Note: When "Legacy Support" is disabled in BIOS, the F9 boot screen shows no entries My question is how can I get the laptop to boot in GPT mode from USB to allow me to install windows with GPT partitions?

Hello All. I am currently typing this over Linux running from USB. Long story short, I found my 1-year-old in my BIOS banging away on the keyboard. He was on the EZ RAID tab and it was asking him if he'd like to proceed with wiping everything. I exited without saving changes and was not able to boot to Windows 10. I know it's hard to believe that banging on the keys got him that far, but here we are. Nothing appears to be in RAID. All 3 drives appear intact, and the m.2 (OS) I'm having issues with works fine as far as putting it in an external case and checking it on another machine. Here's a HW list before we proceed: GIGABYTE Z270X-UD3 i7-7700K 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 C16 (4x8GB) WD BLUE SN550 NVMe 1TB (2 other misc drives for game library, raw vid, etc.) I built this PC in early 2018. I upgraded from a 250GB SATA m.2 back in July or August 2021 along with the RAM. In September replaced a noisy AIO with a be quiet! fan cooler. I removed the CPU to clean the paste off. Everything worked fine until this happened. For some reason the m.2 no longer appears in the boot options, and when I go to the NVMe section under the Peripherals tab, nothing shows up. The only place I see the drive in BIOS is in the RAID menu under "Not in RAID" with my other drives. As I mentioned above, I (painstakingly) removed it and checked it on another machine via an external enclosure. Everything is there and the drive checks fine using the WD utility. I tried different things in setup such as changing it to Legacy instead of UEFI, loading defaults, updating BIOS. I used the old SATA m.2 I upgraded from to make a Linux drive in an external enclosure. I used it to check the partitions and it's not there either, although I'm not sure I'm doing that right. I also tried unplugging the other storage. Nothing has worked. Please feel free to correct my terminology. I know enough to build/upgrade a PC, but not enough to do much troubleshooting on my own. I feel like 1 of 2 things happened: 1. the boot sector of the drive is gone/damaged, as I think NVMe has to be tagged by windows or something for it to be visible in BIOS. IDK... That stuff is over my head 2. the m.2 slot is bad If you need more info or pics/screenshots, lmk. TIA, BLaK

Hello everyone, I have Asrock 970Pro3 paired with Phenom II x2 555BE unlocked to Phenom II x4 B55 and 24GB RAM (my Proxmox homelab). I have some weird problem and I can't figure out where is the problem. MB doesn't save the UEFI settings for the CPU like frequency or voltage in stock or in unlocked 4 core mode. I tried to change the CMOS battery with new one and no success. Also tried to manually set the frequency and voltage settings but after reboot everything is stock, tried to re-flash the UEFI with the same version or with the older one but still no success. There are some weird things also noticed when tried to clear CMOS not every time is cleared, doesn't boot with 1 RAM stick on the 3rd slot (tried with all 4 that I have and randomly boots) and when CPU is unlocked the Asrock boot guard tells me that the system failed to boot 3 times and the UEFI settings are back to stock also happens in stock non unlocked CPU but not so frequently. The last weird thing that I noticed that even all of the 4 RAM slots are populated (correctly for dual channel) UEFI shows single channel mode. At the moment I don't have other CPU to check if the MB is the problem but the whole setup was working for about 3-4 years without any problems. Can someone help me a bit will be grateful. Thanks in advance.

I rebuild older systems and help people with there aging gaming rigs. Is there upgraded BIOS / UEFIs that have been written by the community or tech groups that would add more functionality to a system. (Especially for DELL or HP workstations) Something similar to DD-WRT for routers, except for motherboards. I know a friend in years past had mentioned this but I don't remember what he called these modified bios files.

I recently bought a new ASUS laptop, specifically a ROG Strix G17 model installed with Windows 10. For some reason, I'm unable to boot into a UEFI flash drive I installed with Linux, even though I set to boot from that in the BIOS menu. Instead it just boots straight from the SSD where Windows is. If you need any more info about the problem, I'd be happy to answer. I appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks.

fast boot Can't get into the BIOS anymore because of Fast Boot
whyisluistaken posted a topic in Windows
Hi everbody, I installed windows on my new PC yesterday. Before installing it though, I went into the bios and disabled Fast Boot because I've experienced cases where I could no longer enter the bios because Windows Fast Boot would just skip the boot screen. Well, exactly that happened again. For the first few boots Fast Boot was clearly off. But now Windows is definitely fast booting. Even though I specifially disabled Fast Boot, Windows still seems to be using it. When I boot up my PC, I immediately get thrown into Windows. Pressing the DEL key does not work, entering the Bios through Windows does not work either. I even downloaded Gigabytes Fast Boot app, made sure that fast boot was indeed disabled and clicked on the "bring me into the bios now" button inside Gigabytes app. The PC reboots and brings me back into Windows. Plugging my monitor into any other display output won't show me the bios either. The only way for me to get into the bios is to unplug my ssd. I did that, reinstalled windows, again making sure fast boot was off, everything worked fine the first few times, but now its back on. Does anyone know a solution to this? My motherboard is the Gigabyte Aorus B550M Pro-P Thanks in advance! -

Hello. Well I bought an X79 (X79A to be precise) and I expected it to have an UEFI interface. (keyboard, mouse and fancy GUI design) I use this computer almost every day and this question is pissing me off. Any ideas why didn't this motherboard go for an UEFI Setup Utility and if possible, how to upgrade the BIOS to a newer setup utility? PD: motherboard is called Kllisre X79A-V5.0 U3.0 and found no BIOS updates online. BTW whenever I restart my computer, when it turns on again, it just blackscreens forever and never posts.

So today I decided to attempt enabling Resizable Bar and enjoying the free FPS gains and... it worked. Kinda. The short of my issue is: I manage to get Resizable Bar on, but once I disable CSM, I can't see my BIOS. (I can boot into BIOS, I just don't see any display.) It can however still boot into windows normally. Here is what I have done, in this order: -Updated MOBO BIOS (vers. F33j) -Updated VBIOS for GPU -Updated Nvidia Drivers (vers. 466.27) -Changed my Windows Boot from MBR to GPT -Used MSInfo32 to confirm BIOS mode is UEFI -Disabled CSM Support in bios. -Enabled ReBAR in BIOS. (4G Decoding ON) -Saved BIOS, booted into Windows -Verified ReBAR in Nvidia Control Pannel. -Rebooted into BIOS. (MOBO reads Ab, code for in BIOS) From here, my display receives no input despite being in the BIOS. (Able to confirm by pressing escape + enter and rebooting PC w/out needing to reset or clear CMOS) Additional things I have tried: -Different HDMI Cables -Forcing Windows into UEFI Settings via Recovery Mode -Clearing CMOS and only disabling CSM -Flashbacking to old BIOS vers. -Checking PCIe Display Output in BIOS when disabling CSM -Hotswapping HDMI while in BIOS -Different HDMI Ports on GPU I did read somewhere that people were having issues with CSM when on Display Port or using the silent BIOS on their GPU. Unfortunately for me, neither are my issue cause I using HDMI and my card is single BIOS. Hypothetically, everything works with CSM disabled, I just can't access the BIOS afterwards to tweak anything without clearing CMOS. I am completely out of ideas... maybe there is something I am not understanding? HELP!
