Little bit of context: At the moment im booting my WIndows 10 of a raid 0 setup with 2 SSDs. I know this is kinda stupid but i was young back then . Since these SSDs where bought back in 2016 im kinda worried that they might be reaching EOL pretty soon. My plan is: Boot Ubuntu from a stick Mount both the raid and a new M.2 drive And then just use the "dd" command to copy the raid to the new SSD. Profit! Some things: The "raid drive" has a capacity of 500gb (2x250) and the new SSD has 1TB so it will fit. The raid magic is done by my motherboard (Msi Pro Carbon x370) so it should show up as a single drive in Ubuntu... i hope. I did something similar before with my laptop but not with a raid-setup and the drive i copied was a Ubuntu boot drive So my Question: Wll this work for windows 10 too or are there some checks windows does to see if its on a diffrent drive? I should just be able to boot the new drive after the copy ... right? Thanks in Advance

Saw a few of [these] on eBay refurbished. They have 16gb of RAM and SSD support (all user serviceable). Moreover some of them even have 6th or even 8th gen i7 chips which have up to 8 cores (albeit with hyper threading). I figure this would be perfect for me to load an install of Ubuntu and configure some home automation stuff. I also want a spare machine that takes the load of my main desktop PC since wfh has put some miles on her.

Hey guys, this is my first post here, hopefully this is in the right section. I have a strange problem with my Ubuntu server. My server is running regularly out of disk space due to the installed MySQL 8 server doing a full backup daily without deleting the old backups. I have configured this backup years ago (some time in 2017, the logs started back than) but I really don't know where the backup script is located and how the backup is configured in general. The only thing I know about this backup is that the SQL dumps are stored in /etc/backups/mysql and that the backup runs daily at 3 AM in the morning. There is also a log file which is written with every backup at /etc/backups/mysql/mysql-backup.log, but the log file does not contain where it is created from. Typical log entry (/etc/backups/mysql/mysql-backup.log): === Start of Backup 20220117_030001 === # Backing up entire DBMS mysqldump: [Warning] Using a password on the command line interface can be insecure. mysqldump: Error: 'Access denied; you need (at least one of) the PROCESS privilege(s) for this operation' when trying to dump tablespaces # Retrieving databases mysql: [Warning] Using a password on the command line interface can be insecure. ### Backing up database **TABLE** mysqldump: [Warning] Using a password on the command line interface can be insecure. mysqldump: Error: 'Access denied; you need (at least one of) the PROCESS privilege(s) for this operation' when trying to dump tablespaces ... --> Entry repeats for each DB table === End Backup === What I have checked so far: Crontab configurations of all users on the system --> No scheduled scripts found for MySQL backups Home directories of all users on the system -> Could not find any MySQL backup scripts automysqlbackup (typically recommended for MySQL backups) is NOT installed Configuration of MySQL --> I am not aware of any automatic backup mechanism baked right into MySQL Configuration of PhpMyAdmin --> I am also not aware of any automatic backup mechanism in PhpMyAdmin Searched the whole file system for files called *sql*.sh --> This took ages, but I could not find any suitable backup scripts either so the file is probably called something different Back in 2017 I was very unexperienced with Linux servers, this was also one of my first dedicated servers. So I have probably followed some guide on the internet, however this guide might have looked like... I have not used the DB in years so the problem did not raise to my attention until my server run out of space the first time a few months back. Now that I am using the DB regularly, the issue occurs more often and I need to clean up the backups regularly. An easy fix would be to simply delete the backups automatically after they have been created but this does not fix the root cause. Do you have any further ideas how I could find the script on my server which is creating those backups? Thanks for any help!

I have a rackmount Dell server downstairs which I need to automatically turn on at a certain time every day. The servers hardware doesn't seem to support a way for it to power itself on automatically but it does support WOL so I want to have another PC on my network, my print server, send a WOL packet when it turns itself on every morning. All the documentation I'm finding for how to use WOL isn't the most clear and I was wondering if someone could point me to a quality guide and maybe offer a few tips.

Hi guys I'm a seasoned computer user with over 20 years of experience with Windows (ever since 3.11 basically every single version of Windows there was I was using at some point). I'm building computers for friends, family. I have never had a problem with installation or configuration of Windows and I have done it more times than I can count or even remember. That's why I was certain that installation of Linux (I'm looking to Install Ubuntu to keep using Secure Boot) would be a puce of cake. Two days later I couldn't even live boot into desktop environment let alone successfully install the OS. Why do I want Linux ? Well I have installed Windows 11 just to try it out on a spare drive and it looks hideous, messes with my style and color scheme (with either white or black taskbar and pop outs) and there is no folder previews). Not to mention privacy concerns about Windows in general. What I want is to transition my home PC with SMB server, Plex server and gaming PC to Linux with gaming part being handled in virtual machine with full GPU pass through for best compatibility and performance and do anything else on OS that I can trust and can customize. Besides I do not want periodic updates to ruin my desktop style and color scheme. So get back to problem at hand. I have tried Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and Ubuntu 21.10 as well as popOS (I have Nvidia card so with Ubuntu I used my iGPU to get Ubuntu running and than Install Nvidia driver). So far none of it even live boot. I loaded them all on SD card with Rufus in UEFI mode as disk image. I have disable Secure Boot and enable SGX in bios. None of it help. In Ubuntu I went as far as my motherboard splash screen logo or something that looked like driver initialization process. After a few seconds screen froze and my peripherals shut down. That's as far as I went. I have attempted Linux before with similar result but this time I'm rather determined cause the perspective of using Windows 11 as my daily driver is scary to say the least. If you have any suggestion please go ahead my specs : - Asrock z390 Extreme4 - i5 9600k @ 4,8 Ghz - 2x8GB Kingston Predator RGB 3600 cl17 - Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500 Thanks in advance

Hey guys I'm planning to switch to Linux. Primarily Pop OS or Ubuntu. (from win 11 ofc) I was just wondering if the Epic Games launcher would work on Ubuntu. I read a reddit post where 3 people were have trouble w/ the launcher/store. I wanna know which is the better option in terms of the launcher. (I don't use or wanna use Steam) Also, is there a way to transfer my files for Win 11 to "that" specific OS?

Wine 7.0 Install Instructions So you have decided that you want to install Wine 7.0 for Ubuntu, Ubuntu variations and Debian. Well this quick and easy install guide will take you over how to install it directly from WineHQ. As of the time of writing the Wine binary has not been updated on the official repository so the only way to get Wine 7.0 is to download and install directly from WineHQ. This is pretty easy with no issues. Preparing for install When are ready to install Wine 7.0, check to see if you have wine installed first. To do this open up a terminal window and type the following wine --version Once you have done this and established that you either have Wine installed or you are Wine-less we can now move on. Removing older versions of Wine This is pretty easy to do. Type the following into the already open command terminal that you have open. sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove winehq-stable Installing Wine This is the part where we install Wine. Follow this list of steps This enables 32bit architecture on your operating system allowing the use of said 32bit software. sudo dkpg --add-architecture i386 This step downloads the public key from WineHQ to allow the installing of Wine software. wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key This step adds the public key file to your keys file. sudo apt-key add winehq.key This step adds the Winehq repository for version 7 to the repository list sudo add-apt-repository 'deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/debian/ bullseye main' It is HIGHLY important that you do not forget the '. If you forget the ' It wont work and you will get a blinking >_ If that shows up just CTRL+C and correct the mistake. This step updates your system sudo apt update This step finally installs Wine7.0 sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-stable This will install Wine 7.0 This will get the most update to date version installed. You will be able to run Windows software with no issues at all. You are likely wondering where the Debian version is. Well I made install scripts for all of this on my GitHub that cover both Ubuntu, Ubuntu variations and Debian versions 10, 11 and testing. You can also watch a guide video that I made if you don't want to use the install script. Thank you for reading this. I hope you have a good rest of your day! Hey guys, I would appreciate your point of view on this one. I am building a little NAS server for our office. We do video content production, but mostly as producer, we are not editing or grading etc... So we need the storage to offload some raw footage or something that is needed for a few months and than it goes to big slow HDD into shelf. Ofc. FreeNAS, UnRaid or OMV were my first ideas, but than I realized I need also to offload to that computer. Connecting an SD reader od external drive and offload data to it, that is mostly the case. And I need to just connect HDD directly to the NAS and let it work and go so I need a GUI in my OS on that station. So the question is: Wouldn't a simple Ubuntu PC with RAID5 and SMB enabled be just fine for this case? What would actually be the advantages of a NAS OS for my case? One think I am thinking of, not sure if it works that way is, I would like to incorporate an SSD in the system so the offloading is not bottle necked by the speed of the HDD RAID, lets call it an SSD buffer, is there such a thing? Can this be done on Ubuntu? Lot of questions, I would appreciate your input guys. What do you think?

Hi, So I recently decided to switch to linux for my main OS and I have been having some problems with my nic. So my setup is pretty straight foward I have two 2.5Gb/s nics one in my pc and one in my server that are both directly connected to one another. My problem is that I am not able to get the speed that is advertized on linux. I am on Kubuntu 21.04 btw. I never had this problem on windows. I have the r8125 driver installed and loaded but even then It dosnt work. When doing "ehtool enp9s0" these are the results I get. Settings for enp9s0: Supported ports: [ TP ] Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full 2500baseT/Full Supported pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only Supports auto-negotiation: Yes Supported FEC modes: Not reported Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full Advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Advertised FEC modes: Not reported Link partner advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full 2500baseT/Full Link partner advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only Link partner advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Link partner advertised FEC modes: Not reported Speed: 1000Mb/s Duplex: Full Auto-negotiation: on Port: Twisted Pair PHYAD: 0 Transceiver: internal MDI-X: Unknown Supports Wake-on: pumbg Wake-on: g Current message level: 0x00000033 (51) drv probe ifdown ifup Link detected: yes So it is supported but the speed is stuck at 100Mb/s for some reason. Any ideas would be greatly apreciated since I didnt buy both cards wanting them to be as slow as in integrated eth port lol. They work perfectly fine under windows and have a problem ONLY when im on booted in kubuntu on my main pc.

This is my first attempt at setting up a home file server so I appreciate any help I can get and apologize if I am missing something obvious. Just recently I threw together a home file server running ubuntu server 20.04. I spend most of my day at school and would like to be able access my server from school to transfer files to and from school and my home server and I thought to use Teamviewer for that. I looked up online tutorials and they all seem to be for ubuntu 20.04 while I am running ubuntu SERVER 20.04 w no GUI. I still went through the steps to install it but when I go to launch it i get this output : Init... xprop: unable to open display '' CheckCPU: SSE2 support: yes Checking setup... Launching TeamViewer ... Launching TeamViewer GUI ... Aborted (core dumped) It seems that it installed ok but is running into an issue when it goes to launch the GUI. Is there anything else I can do to get this to work or try a whole new idea? What I want most is to be able to transfer and save files from my home server to wherever I am at. I appreciate any help w this. Thanks!

I'm running windows 10 under qemu/kvm and I'm trying to pass through my graphics card (RTX 2060 mobile), but it always throws code 43 because the VM doesn't have a battery. I've tried the method of creating a fake one through ACPI tables but no luck. Is there any way to pass through my battery or trick windows (spesifically Nvidia drivers) into thinking the VM has a battery?

Hello everyone! I feel sorry if im making a really dumb question, but I have been searching all over and can't really figure out a solution! So I'm trying to install the Ubuntu distro from the microsoft store, so i can programm on it withou having to do some more complex stuff to get a linux distro working. But when I installed it it gave me a weird message saying that "the specified network name is no longer available", then "Element not found" and finally asking me to create a default UNIX account. My problem is that it won't accept any name i give it, every time i chose an username it spits out "specified network name is no longer available" and then asks for the username again!? I have already installed ubuntu twice on 2 separate computers and havent got that problem, so what now??? I appreciate any kind of help.

I installed ubuntu on my new PC and after I installed drivers for my AMD GPU it just gets stuck at my MOBO manufacturer's logo and won't boot. I've tried reinstalling ubuntu, fixing grub2 and something more that I don't remember. If you have any idea how I can get my PC to boot, please tell me! I've been at this from 8pm yesterday to 6:30 am today an I'm tired because I only slept for 4h.

I'm getting ready to set up my PC to dualboot linux and Windows 10. I know I'm going to use Ubuntu, but I still have to decide what GUI I wand, KDE, Budgie, or the fork of Ubuntu by System76 Pop OS. The trouble I'm running into is that I don't know what to use to replace Logitech G Hub (which replaced the stand alone Blue Software). I have a Blue Yeti X and I use Logitech G Hub to mix audio live while recording with OBS. I like that it's set up with preset profiles which are easy to edit. I'm not seeing were I can get something of the same quality with Linux and I don't believe that even if G Hub did work in Wine there would be a way to get it to work with OBS.
