Every time I open games they detect my Dualsense but doesn’t respond to any of my inputs until I hot plug it. I can’t find anything related to this online, can somebody point me in the right direction so I know what’s causing the issue?

Hello everyone, The issue itself it not lengthy but I'll try to explain it in detail (with images and everything I've tried) so maybe you can identify the root problem more easily. System Configuration: I'm using an dual monitor setup where I have a external Dell monitor connected through HDMI to my Dell Latitude E5470. I recently installed ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS alongside windows 11 (using dual boot) and am using it for development purposes. What caused the issue? A few days back, while messing with display settings on ubuntu i accidentally disabled the built in laptop display using the button on top right of display settings. At the moment I thought I would just be able to turn it back on whenever so I didn't care much since I was mainly using the external display anyway. But then sometime later, an ubuntu firmware update happened. And after that when I tried to enable the built in display from the display settings from the external display, it just wasn't there. The display settings showed up like there was only one display attached (See the image below) One thing to note about this image is that, the system does realize that this is second monitor, indicated by the number 2 on the top left corner, it just doesn't detect the built in display for some reason. Things I've tried to resolve it but failed: 1. On ubuntu, I disconnected the HDMI cable, since doing so normally auto switches to the builtin display, it did switch instantly but the laptop kept going to sleep (a.k.a suspended in ubuntu) just after a few seconds and I'd have to manually press the power button to wake it up and login again. 2. I tried opening display setting within the few seconds period I would get on built in display but that would freeze ubuntu and immediately go to sleep again. 3. I tried opening the display settings on external display and then unplugging the cable, so the built in display would be forced to display the display settings but the display settings page would just show one Night Light option (see image below) 4. I thought the issue could just be ubuntu related, so i restarted the system to boot into windows, and disconnected the HDMI cable so that it show everything on the built in screen. And everything appeared normal till windows loading screen, but after that the screen went blank, even though I could hear the windows startup sound. I then plugged the hdmi cable back and the lock screen appeared on external display. So i opened the display settings on windows on external display, but it also showed the settings as if there was just one monitor attached. (See the image below) I can't check what the display settings look like for built in display on windows because as soon as I unplug the HDMI cable on windows, instead of showing everything on the laptop's built in screen, it just continues to display a blank laptop screen. Few other technical things I've tried: 1. Tried to reset display settings on ubuntu using command line -- didn't work. 2. Tried reinstalling display drivers on windows -- didn't work. 3. Even tried reinstalling ubuntu but that didn't solve the problem either. And one particular thing to note about the re-installation was that even during the ubuntu installation from my usb stick, if i had the hdmi cable unplugged the built in display would keep going to sleep after every few seconds and i'd have to either constantly manually wake it up by pressing the power button of just attach the external display in which case it would switch to it and won't cause any issues. 4. Thought the issue must be bios related at this point since it is OS-independent, so reset the whole BIOS, but that didn't work either. If anyone can help me revive my laptop screen, I'd be super grateful since my laptop is just 'windows mini' (derived from mac mini) at this point. # EDIT 1: Please note that, I CAN work with BIOS on my builtin laptop screen as long as I want and that doesn't cause any issues. In bios settings, everything seems normal with the built in laptop screen.

I want to install Ubuntu as the main OS on my laptop. This laptop came with an OEM Windows license. So my question is that by installing Ubuntu as a fresh OS, everything deleted, will the OEM key be still valid if I install Windows back on my laptop? This is very confusing and making me nervous about the OEM license key. So please explain this to me.

Hello, I have a dev kit card and it's almost running out of space (eMMC = 16Gb), the "apt" command installs directly on the / and it is mounted on the eMMC. However, I have an external SD card (64Gb) and I would like to use its space to download and install programs in it as I normally would on the internal memory. Is there any solution or guide for this ?

As far as I know it is not (easily) possible to move/resize mounted partitions and that an active system will have mounted partition(s), but I thought I'd ask in case there is a way. The situation is as follows: Company laptop setup Win11+Ubuntu dual boot, but more space was allocated to Windows than requested. The Windows side is completely locked down and I have no permissions there. Disk Management and other partition tools are thus not possible and live boots are also locked behind an admin password. I have full administrator access in Linux so I essentially can do what I want there (agreed upon and intended) and they shrunk the Windows partition for me at my request, but because of the "extend to the left" issues and such that's where the saga ended. Now I foolishly assumed stuff was setup with LVM like I had on my previous laptop and that extending it in Linux would not be an issue, so I said I could take it from there. It was not, so now I'm stuck with the following unfortunate partitioning: What I would like is to move everything to the left such that the unallocated 99.37 GB can be attached to /home. Googling around I saw some hints that it might be possible to move stuff over by creating a new LVM, for example, in the unallocated space and copying over the existing swap and root partitions (perhaps in a special way)? I can always go for the nuclear option and just ask them to reinstall everything with the correct partitioning, but if there is a simpler way that would be nice. My questions: Could I avoid the mess and simply "extend to the left, shrink, repeat for every partition" without much trouble? If 1 is not possible, what would be the best approach for this if any?

Hi All I'm struggling to find the right setup for my situation right now, and feel that due to the below circumstances, Proxmox (which I'm using and would prefer) isn't going to work. I'm living in China, so a lot of repositories are blocked such as GitHub, Bullseye etc. I'm sure there are others available but it would really eat into my time to research them, and with not being a Chinese native speaker, could be quite difficult. I'm wanting to use my 11th gen NUC (has a 256gb boot drive and an 8tb SSD) as a server for mass storage, Plex, HASS, and qbittorrent. I may run some other things like Adguard down the road but they'll be lightweight. I'm thinking of moving away from headless to a more traditional OS that can have all of the above installed, but also my VPN which I can turn on and off as needed, so I can access the repositories. Considering the above, what do you think my best course of action would be? I really wanted to keep everything headless and lightweight, but thinking a simple Ubuntu install might be best. I have looked into VPN options for my router but this isn't going to work well here. Many thanks for any feedback!

So one of the things I have been fighting for a while is being able to remote access my server running Ubuntu w/GUI without display output. I used to have no issues at all and all the sudden one day things changed. At first and still to this day (been working and failing at this for over a year) I thought it was a driver issue, fixed and reinstalled drivers, I went so far as to completely wipe the server and start fresh during Christmas, I have updated the drivers for the crappy GTX 580 (I think is what is in there) and still. I can only access and use my server if there is a display output attached to the server, otherwise I get what you can see in the video. I have asked numerous professors at my college and not a single one has any freaking clue what could cause this. I found out there are some systems that do not allow access to a display output without outputting that display to a monitor, this wouldnt account for the 6 months I had with no issues though. I have tried TeamViewer and VNC Viewer and no luck with either. Would love any ideas or help. IMG_8390.MOV

Almost everywhere I go, I see ubuntu being called a Debian distribution. Debian began in 1993 by Ian Murdoch, ubuntu in 2004 by Mark Shutleworth. Ubuntu is derived from Debian. Since its inception, ubuntu has gone its separate way, becoming more commercia and incorporating non-free software. So, one is able to say that ubuntu is related to Debian and be correct. To say it is a Debian distro is not correct. Anyone who has tried both can verify that installing Debian is a PITA whereas installing Ubuntu is pretty easy. If someone has been using both for several years, he or she can also see the difference in stability. In short, ubuntu can be buggy and unstable, especially if other than the Long Term Support (LTS) versions of any 'buntu (kubuntu, lubuntu, ubuntu, xubuntu, et cetera) are used. Debian, once installed, is very stable. Which is why it is one of the preferred Server distros. I have included more or less chronologically links that show how the two differ, which is better for beginners learining about GNU/Linux and which non-ubuntu distros are suitable for newbies. I hope it sheds some light on why the two are not in the same category. Why Linus Torvalds Doesn’t Like Using Debian Or Ubuntu Linux? Debian vs. Ubuntu: Which One Should You Use? Hi, I have a set of Steelserise Siberia elite prism headphones, and in POP!_OS, and Manjaro they are really quiet. On windows it sounds fine. I tried looking for Linux drivers and such, but I could not seem to find them. When I push the volume up to 150% the bass distorts and starts to sound really bad. How can I make them louder without distorting and make them normal?

Alright so I am trying to make a linux virtualbox VM, I do all of the steps that every walkthrough video does, I have tried every kind of virtual disk file, both virtual chipsets, no matter what I change I always land at a completely black screen. As for the editing options, everything I type in doesn't do anything. This is the same with hyper-v on and off. Does anyone know what to do?

Hi, I got a Lenovo laptop last year for college and have been using windows 10 on it, but recently I have been interested in Linux, specifically Pop OS!. At first I was going to download Ubuntu, I got it ready on the usb stick and as soon as I started installing I noticed that my touchpad wasn't working, I plugged in a external USB mouse thinking it might just be a missing driver etc, but when I loaded in it wasn't even listed in xinput/ xinput list. At this stage I was quite busy and didn't have time to look into it. Few months later I recently started up my laptop and decided to put Pop OS thinking that it might go, but it didn't. When it comes to Linux I am still very new so any tips will be grateful I went through the installation with a external Mouse, then started troubleshooting. Did: xinput : Nothing related to touchpad came up. Did: cat /proc/bus/input/devices : Nothing related to touchpad appeared, however a device called i2c-ELAN0001:00/input/input4 what their with the name "Elan Touchscreen" this seemed strange as this isn't a touchscreen laptop. Did some searching and discovered that doing ctrl+alt+F3 enters a Virtual Terminal, I logged in and touched my touchpad: first touch: elants_i2c i2c-ELAN0001:00: unknown packet 0e 00 04 03 When I let go: elants_i2c i2c-ELAN0001:00: unknown packet 0e 00 04 01 Meaning when I touch it, its 03 and when I let go it is 01. Also that touchscreen ELAN0001 = Touchpad touch (ELAN0001). So I guess this tells us that it can detect it, put something is missing e.g. Driver is just bad optimisation with the kernel. The attempted fixes I have done: Tried installing/updated Elan Drivers as well as various other drivers that could of helped I looked into the kernel itself assuming that at this point the kernel has no idea what to do with these drivers and the touchpad "touchscreen". -Tried to "build my own" kernel following some guides, got kinda far but certain steps weren't working and since I don't have a vast knowledge I don't know what to do. I have also noticed that this seems to happen to mostly Lenovo products, so something with the way Lenovo makes their Touchpad Drivers doesn't work with the Linux kernel? I don't have much knowledge with Linux and would really appreciate some help with this, if you need anymore information just ask. Sorry if I have said something dumb etc.

I use Rclone to mount my OneDrive with all my Windows data in my Ubuntu partition, which works perfectly. I decided to symlink my Documents, Music and Pictures folders to their respective folders in OneDrive for easier access of the data. However, I ran into problems where all the contents of these folders ended up getting dumped into my home folder, and therefore getting deleted from OneDrive. I managed to un-link the folders and sort out the mess, but I want to know: Why did this happen? Is there any way to accomplish this without disastrous results?

Hi so I just received my new boot drive that I changed because I was running out of space. I am running a server with ubuntu 20.04 on it and I am using 2 2.5gbs nic in both it and my main pc. Before I was getting a steady 280-290MB/s of transfer rate. But after restoring a backup that I had made with dd and also restored it with it I am now getting ~180MB/s Anyone have any idea why that would be?

I am switching to Linux after a lifetime of using Windows and I ran into a lot of problems in terms of drivers. The main problem I'm having is getting my WiFi card to work. After many many tries I can't get it to work. I looked at a lot of tutorials and after an allnighter of trying to get it to work and miserably failing, I decided to ask for help. SecureBoot is disabled. When I run sudo lshw -C network I get the following: *-network UNCLAIMED description: Network controller product: Wi-Fi 6 AX200 vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:01:00.0 version: 1a width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress msix cap_list configuration: latency=0 resources: memory:fea00000-fea03fff *-network description: Ethernet interface physical id: 1 bus info: usb@1:2 logical name: usb0 serial: ae:9c:65:89:8d:5e capabilities: ethernet physical configuration: broadcast=yes driver=rndis_host driverversion=22-Aug-2005 firmware=RNDIS device ip=192.168.50.35 link=yes multicast=yes Ethernet interface is my phone being tethered to my laptop via USB. Ok so I've been working on this for the past two day days and I can't seem to figure it out; (Also I'm running Ubuntu 20.04) I've been following this tutorial https://www.linuxnorth.org/minecraft/modded_linux.html#Step 4 - Configure your new Modded Minecraft Server, and I can't get past step four. I keep receiving this error when I try to load the forge-universal.jar (I renamed the file so I wouldn't have to retype the file every four seconds) A problem occurred running the Server launcher.java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException at java.base/jdk.internal.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at java.base/jdk.internal.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:62) at java.base/jdk.internal.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:43) at java.base/java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:566) at net.minecraftforge.fml.relauncher.ServerLaunchWrapper.run(ServerLaunchWrapper.java:70) at net.minecraftforge.fml.relauncher.ServerLaunchWrapper.main(ServerLaunchWrapper.java:34) Caused by: java.lang.ClassCastException: class jdk.internal.loader.ClassLoaders$AppClassLoader cannot be cast to class java.net.URLClassLoader (jdk.internal.loader.ClassLoaders$AppClassLoader and java.net.URLClassLoader are in module java.base of loader 'bootstrap') at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.<init>(Launch.java:34) at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.main(Launch.java:28) ... 6 more I've tried reinstalling it, I've tried removing the files and redownloading it, I've tried just about everything that my smooth brain can do but I can't just seem to figure it out. I've looked at this github post thing and this looks like my best bet but honestly I'm not sure they even knew what they were talking about: https://github.com/MinecraftPortCentral/Cauldron-Issues/issues/26 I'm at my wits end and all I want to do is play Minecraft with my stupid friends... Send help!

Hi everyone, I've had amazing luck at developing a method to run steam games in splitscreen (basically already got it to work, but needs much optimizing which is why I'm here). So my goal is to create a linux program that will split a users desktop monitor into two, launch steam via LXC containers while pushing both usb and bluetooth controllers to specific containers to create a system of splitscreen gaming. I'm taking this one step at a time. I can split my screen into two using fakexrandr (I wanted to use xrandrs virtual monitiors but unfortunately that doesn't work on ubuntus gnome). I've created containers that are functional for keyboard and mouse (I haven't yet gotten to the usb and bluetooth controller stage) and run steam with vulkan at full speed. I used the snap version of LXD to get LXD version 4.0.11. When I install a game locally it will run fine, however I have also used: <lxc config device add steam1 steamlibhdd disk source=/mnt/Big_Ubuntu/LinuxSteamLibrary path=/mnt/Big_Ubuntu/LinuxSteamLibrary> so that I can save storage space. This works for lots of games, however lots of other games such as AoE2 DE and Halo do not run. The errors that steam seems to complain about are to do with bwrap. I believe fedora users are having a similar issue however I'm unable to follow along with their fixes. I don't believe this is a permissions issue as I run the containers as privileged containers, and have played with Idmaps. Is there any sort of way to resolve this issue? I don't really want to download 60+ gigs of Halo to get it to work in splitscreen (although that is an option...)

So I slot in an SD card one afternoon and immediately an error pops up. Assume that the drive's name is simply Drive. The error reads: Unable to mount Drive. Not authorized to perform application. I needed to use the mount command in the terminal and then change around some properties to get it to work. I can't do this every time I insert a drive. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi folks! I just got a new Radeon RX 6700XT (lucky one). Turns out, when attempting to install 20.04 from scratch, the common install menu does not even load: after DVD install media check for errors, screen goes black. I've noticed that even the "media check for errors" screen is different than usual (had installed 20.04 previously on this PC with old GPU), like super basic text graphics. What might be the problem? Can it be that 20.04 installer does not have basic drivers for the 6700XT so it does not even display the install menu? Thanks a million!

Hi guys, I'm experiencing a weird issue that I've tried to troubleshoot. Sometimes when I come back to my computer after a few hours, the screen is black and none of the peripherals are working. The motherboard is showing the Q code 90 and the DRAM LED is yellow as shown in the picture. The only way to use the computer again is to power cycle with the power button. It's mostly happened while it's being used in Ubuntu 20.04, but I've experienced once or twice a similar error in Windows 10. I've tried to check system journal, but I'm not able to find out if the computer suspended.

Applications that are installed on my main SSD (/dev/sda1) such as discord cannot access data on my secondary hard drive (/mnt/sdb1). For example if I try to upload an image that is stored on it, Discord tells me it failed to upload. This is also a problem for pretty much any software that isn't native to the OS.

Every time I try to install Ubuntu the GRUB bootloader fails to work and doesn't show any of my boot options. So, I can install Ubuntu but I can't get into ubuntu. I installed Pop os and I was able to boot into it from uefi by pressing f12 on my keyboard. The problem is that Pop os is giving me issues with not having the right resolution for my display and my aux port won't work with it. So, I decided I want to try stock Ubuntu. I then learned that Pop os used systemd-boot instead of Grub and that is why it booted and ubuntu didn't. So, I was wondering if after installing ubuntu to my drive, is there a way to boot from a live usb and access my installation using the live usb and change my bootloader from grub to systemd-boot in terminal?
