Intro I got this from Pick Your Path bundle so I pretty much has nothing to lose when I grab the copy. Not really a fan of FarCry even though I admit FC series is actually very good. Not gonna say anything about The Crew. Knowing that it is a bug fest when it was released, I did think a lot before actually redeeming this code. But I kind of glad I did, even if it's not the best thing ever.Story Not the best story, but acceptable by my standard. Reminds me a lot of young Ezio in AC2. But modern story is pretty much non-existent is pissing me off a lot. Especially when they went "Ok, templars won't find the sage so let's do nothing". Seriously, it feels like the writers went lazy or the devs simply doesn't want to make the modern time story. Voice acting is good, but the missing accent really bothers me. The excuse given to us is that because everywhere we go in the game the feel of Paris and French Revolution won't make us forget that the characters are Frenchmen. The problem is, Assassin's Creed 2 pretty much Italian Renaissance wherever I go so why there's accent there? The lack of accent really throws the feel of the character off that I can't enjoy the story as much as I enjoy Ezio's. I tried to change the language to French and the animation is not in sync with the speech, again the feel is lost. Probably just a pet peeves but this kind of details what makes me miss Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood. Gameplay You now have 2 options while free-running; free run up and down. This is supposed to tell Arno to climb up or down while free running with the safest and fastest route. But the problem of random climb is still not solved as the game still allow and guess random climb on low items, and you will also jumps of the cliffs as well. Nothing is solved with the improvement given. Combat controls is clunky as well, but at least it is well animated and most of the time doesn't really punish me too much for each mistakes. Combat does feel better and improved compared to previous games but targeting system will probably need some works, or perhaps I'm the one who need to works my combat. Stealth mechanics feels great. Makes a little more sense compared to any other Assassin's Creed I've played. Blending in crowd to be stealthy in open; chairs, table, walls, closets are useful indoors. The only thing that bugs me is that wearing yellow attire while blending in dark colored clothed crowd isn't attracting any attention. Main story missions felt too much like the original Assassin's Creed. Briefed by council, investigate, and assassinate. Good thing they modify the assassination mission a little bit by adding in opportunities. These are secondary optional objectives that will really helps you with the mission, but completing them isn't a piece of cake either. Good challenge and helps with the assassination. Crowd missions introduced taking advantage of the crowd number in the game. The missions is basically giving helps to the citizens against thieves or harassing extremist, but the frequency of the citizens being harassed is too much that I get confused whether I'm in Gotham or Paris. Not to mention they can actually fight, some of them actually carry swords but doesn't fight when harassed until you act. Borderline logical for me, but that's probably because I've never lived in a revolution era. Co-op missions are fun, it's just that I keep on asking myself how many Arno is there in this world. I kind of missed the PvP multiplayer. It's not in the game, if you need them you had to go back to previous installation. Animations are cool! I like the high-profile assassination, low-profile assassination and the parkour animations. Nostradamus Enigma is fun investigation too. Deciphering clues requires good knowledge of the in game area, usually pretty obvious if you know Paris well enough. These enigma will lead you to the artifacts that will unlock unique armor. Side missions are good too. 2 kind of side missions, local stories and investigation. Playing detectives in investigation missions are fun, problem is the most of the time the clues sometimes direct you right to the person who did the crime. Without much effort you can solve the crime. As for the local stories, my main gripe with it is that the need to either re-load the game or fast travel to get to the next part of the story after you complete one part of it. If you are the kind of completing one story in one go, you'll find that the way they do it is giving you extra works. Because of the co-op, the devs implement some sort of RPG elements in the game. You can modify the stats of your Arno to be stealthy or to be a tank. Problem is, the stats are not well explained. Example; High-Profile Noise and Low-Profile Noise. In game they have positive values, so you'll get confused whether the equipment is adding more noise or actually reducing noise? Some of the stats that improve your stats has negative values. So, you decide to seek your answer on the web. And there you go, the value on the AC:Unity page is upside down from the in-game (positive in-game, negative in the web). It felt like the stats modifier is an afterthought rather than planned from beginning and poorly executed. Though the function remains the same. I would say that Ubisoft is right on making the crowd as their selling point. The crowd is pretty lively, has their own agenda and the number is simply enormous. The problem is with the protesters. It's like they don't have anything else to do other than protesting. They don't need to eat, they don't need to rest, they don't have other business to attend, they just protest. Good thing is that they still know how to react to their surrounds, one guy release a shot every one will start running away saving themselves.Graphics I'm running the game at 1080p with graphic presets High with additional HBAO+. The problem is, it felt very much like being rendered by potato rather than my GTX970. Some objects that is imitating bokeh (out of focus object) is not out of focus but rather rendered with very low res textures and polygon. Faraway buildings are having seriously low res textures that you start to wonder if you actually owns GTX970 or GeForce 2 MX400. This might not bother much if you are simply running around but when I'm stopping investigating enigmas, this really bothers me. As for the framerate, yes it struggles to maintain 60fps. But at least it can maintain above 40fps. No weird framerate issues that I experience. Dem low poly and textures Dem low textures If you really want to maintain 60fps, probably you'll need SLI. Problem is, SLI is broken as of my review was done so it's pretty much not an option right now.Microtransactions Oh yes, you don't want to play the game yet wants to unlock every single equipments in this game? You got the money, Ubisoft got the answer for you. I see it as pay-to-win since basically it just jumps you forward with more powerful equipments, but it won't upset any balancing in the game so you might argue it's not pay-to-win and I'm willing to accept that. A mobile game level of microtransaction in full fledged triple A game that cost you $60 isn't bad enough for you? You can throw your money to Ubisoft another extra $2 for premium access in the companion apps. This will give you "full experience" with the companion apps when the companion app is useless without you buying the game. Companion app is primarily for you to throw more money at Ubisoft. Companion App I like the idea of 2nd screen experience and extra things you can do in it. Introduction of Glyph Puzzles to unlock missions and send your assassins to complete the missions for you and unlocking extra chest in the game is an idea that I actually like, just that you'll need to make sure that you collect the rewards in game as soon as possible, else you'll lose access to one of your assassin for 24 hours as they were automatically assigned to collect your rewards for 24 hours. Conclusion Assassin's Creed: Unity isn't a bad game. But the inconsistencies, microtransactions and textures in certain area really bugs me. I like the story, I like the stealth mechanics, I like the animations, I like the co-op multiplayer, but the game itself is released in such conditions that makes everything becomes bad and leave sour taste in my mouth. If you're hoping to run this game on SLI to boost performance, hold your horses. But if you really can look past the bad pc port graphic quality, microtransactions and inconsistencies, I'd say it is passable as an entertainment. The game itself is fun though nothing excellent, but all the bragging points buried by the bad stuff in the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdSk6vJmW5M

When I try to launch a Ubisoft game that is connected to Uplay there is a processes called Uplay in Windows task manager but no application. The game does not start and Uplay does not appear anywhere. I've tried starting just Uplay, even running as administrator, but it still does not appear on the screen. I guess it would probably work if I just re installed Uplay, but I wanted to know if anyone had seen anything like this. Also, if I re install Uplay do I have to re install all my Ubisoft games that are linked to Uplay? I'm on a Windows 7 machine. Thanks otan

Every gamer will know that DLC has kind of gotten out of hand lately. However, Ubisoft Brazil is telling people not to complain about it. Ubisoft Brazil held a Q&A session on YouTube the other day. In the 3 minute mark of the video, a question was asked as to why Ubisoft keeps charging for DLC and expansions. The person wanted to know why games are not shipped as a complete package anymore. A NeoGAF user translated Ubisoft Brazil’s response and it’s not pretty: Many gamers disagree with Ubisoft Brazil’s stance on DLC. The video in question has nearly 20,000 dislikes with only over 1000 likes. No matter what publishers say, gamers still feel that DLC is too excessive these days. Update: The video in question got removed shortly after this got published. I managed to view it as the channel really was from Ubisoft Brazil. Source: http://attackofthefanboy.com/news/ubisoft-brazil-tells-people-not-complain-dlc/ Reupload of the video: (You can turn on the english legend) Well... I think that first day DLC shouldn't even exit, I bought the game, I don't want to beat the game and still can't be able to get that beautifull armor just because I didn't spend $20 on a DLC... =/

Steam Ubisoft/UPlay Games in a different drive not running
Dubscee posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hi Guys, I just built a new PC , installing my Windows 8.1 OS in an SSD , and installing Steam, its games on a 1TB HDD. When I try running AC4 or ACUnity, it just crashes on me. Is this a common issue? What is the cause of this? Is there a solution other than installing UPlay and games on C:\ , I mean since my SSD is limited in space, I am hoping to avoid that. Thanks in Advance-

To describe Jonathan Dankoff's job in the most digestible way, it's hard to do better than his Twitter bio, which explains in a sentence that he tries "to help people make their games better." Officially, Dankoff is a user research project manager at Ubisoft Montreal. And for the last five years, he's been focusing on Assassin's Creed at the studio behind games likeAssassin's Creed 3, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Unity. About a year ago, he started specializing in something new. Along with his partner, Corey May, he now examines story through user testing. And all that really means is that he takes the criticism and suggestions that a bunch of people have and shares them with Ubisoft's writers before it's too late. Ultimately, Dankoff, who talked about what he's learned at a GDC 2015 session this week, sees himself as a helper. And as he was working on games in development, he realized something not that long ago: Narrative needs help. For reasons even the new process' creator doesn't understand, narrative was never part of the rigorous playtesting process that has become a hallmark of video game development. He decided to fix that. Game and mission design receive constant feedback, but story gets "next to none," he said. And that doesn't make any sense, given his understanding that narrative has become the second most important component for game reviews. Narrative tends to becomes fully integrated into games late in the development process, he said. At that point, scripts are locked, motion capture is done, voice over is recorded. Identifying story problems late into a project can make them somewhere between difficult and impossible to fix. So, to Dankoff, the solution seemed to be identifying these problems before it's too late. As everything does with hindsight, his process seems obvious. But it's new at Ubisoft, a company whose flagship Assassin's Creed series is steeped in lore. Now that he had a plan, a logical question followed: How do you formally review narrative? They couldn't use standard user testers because they "are not critics," Dankoff says. Their criticism often boils down to "Oh, I don't really like this part." And that's not particularly helpful for figuring out how to change a game's story and make it better. So he and May devised a solution, based on the belief that there's value in iteration. Playtesting shows that. The process of building a game and testing it with insiders and outsiders to find and fix mistakes is an integral part of making games. Narrative, they decided, needed the polish that gameplay got. That's why they devised the narrative review process, where project writers become Ubisoft's clients. Dankoff and May insert themselves into the process, calling attention to narrative in the messy middle where it's sometimes ignored. Their job is to listen to mixed signals and filter them for writers, who can use that feedback to make better games. At Ubisoft Montreal, they assemble a team made of two distinct parts: peers from the writing community as well as those who are "specifically not writers," like game design, level design and other leads. Through a systematic process, they review the narrative, analyze it and synthesize what they learn into a report. Their job is to "read, write, analyze and discuss," he said. Participants have 10 days (and, likely, an extension beyond that, because everybody's always so busy) to read a story synopsis, take notes, ask questions and provide notes. A longer questionnaire finishes the process. At Ubisoft, it's a very basic web form. You don't need "a fancy digital questionnaire," he told the audience. Next up is the analysis phase, where they look for consensus as well as divergent opinions, like comprehension of the story's continuity and character motivation. And then it's time to provide that information to the writers, in the least messy way possible. Dankoff warned against the multiplicative effects of negativity and suggested anyone employing this process should and end with positivity, saving the criticism for the middle. Think of it as a criticism sandwich. A formalized discussion follows. The writer can now ask questions of the reading group. And they can employ brainstorming sessions to workshop the problems people have identified. The results go into the first report as an addendum. The point is to provide meaningful feedback for a very important part of a game that hasn't been given the proper amount of feedback. They want to be early to act and discover problems and then provide a clear direction for fixing problems. They want, ultimately, to help everyone invest in the narrative, when it's easy to make changes. They want to do it long before they'd have to get a voice actor to come back in the studio. Their narrative review process provides actionable feedback, and the document that comes from the process becomes ammunition for writers, when people want to change the story. Before he ended the talk, Dankoff made one thing very clear: The narrative review process is not story design by committee. "What I'm talking about is accountability," he said. It's a process that allows writers to "justify your actions much more easily." None of the games Dankoff and his writer cohort May have worked on for the last year have come out, so he was careful not to give away any Ubisoft secrets. But he believes the process already provided benefits. There is a writer (on an unspecified game) who had no idea that a problem existed until the review process pointed it out. Under the old process, that kind of thing might've been swept under the rug and uncovered when it was too late to fix. Another example took the opposite approach: A writer knew there was a problem, and the group worked to improve the part of the script without overriding the writer's intentions. He said he couldn't believe they were the first people to think of this. That's why he came to GDC: to share what now seems simple and obvious with fellow developers. OP: I've alwyas liked Ubisoft, but things have gone stale, as a gamer all i can wish is for a better game with better story that doesn't feel rushes like a bakery item, i hope ubisoft has learned their lesson over the years and get back to the roots, Prince of persia days were gold Source : http://www.polygon.com/2015/3/5/8140249/ubisoft-montreal-narrative-review-writers-clients-gdc-2015

The PC accounted for 23 percent of Ubisoft's sales this quarter, an amount only (and only slightly) surpassed by the PlayStation 4, which totaled 27 percent of sales. Xbox One sales made up just 11 percent of Ubisoft's sales for the quarter, as did the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The Wii U came in a distant last with three percent, and "other"—mobile and ancillaries—grabbed the remaining 14 percent. The PC's 23 percent share also represents a dramatic increase over the 14 percent of total sales last it achieved last year. http://www.pcgamer.com/the-pc-accounts-for-nearly-a-quarter-of-ubisofts-first-quarter-sales/ Thoughts?

So what seemed like a good-will gesture from Ubisoft relating to AC:U Season Pass purchasers, in which they get a free Ubisoft game, has actually turned into a sneaky "cover our butts as much as possible" ploy by Ubi. In their terms of agreement when you go to download this free game, there is a line in which you waive your ability to ever sue Ubisoft or receive compensation for poor game releases. "You hereby irrevocably and unconditionally RELEASE, WAIVE, AND FOREVER DISCHARGE AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE Ubisoft Entertainment S.A.," Horribly dirty play from Ubisoft. But then again what else have we ever come to expect from them? Keep on diggin'....... "It basically says in 200 words what Ubisoft wants you to say in five: "I will not sue you," whether for the busted game or the fact giving away free DLC devalues the season pass you bought. The waiver is buried in the mile of legal text that no one ever reads, but they're required to say they have before they can get their stuff." So this why they gave the free games out, and here I thought it was out of the kindness of their hearts. Just keep digging, just keep digging, ... So I recently bought an Asus Strix gtx 970, and I got the free Ubisoft game thing. I decided to download Far Cry 4. It's currently downloading, probably won't play it until I get the 970 (for xmas). So who else has gotten a free Ubisoft game and now feels dirty as a result? I feel kinda bad for downloading it because I am boycotting Ubisoft for their bullshit. Meaning I won't purchase a game of theirs, but free is free right? Can taking a free game from a Dev you hate, make them (or their digging) appear more popular than it should be? Discuss

Hi everyone, my copy of Watch Dogs will not start anymore. It has been a while since I played, so I don't know exactly when the problem started, but it used to work fine (on the same setup, nothing changed except for software/driver updates). Has anyone had the same problem? If so, how did you fix it, if at all? I tried uninstalling and reïnstalling, also resetting the graphics options did not work (geforce experience, because I can't get into the game at all). Yes it is a genuine bought copy, Uplay is acting normal (normal being a piece of crap that is slow and buggy, but working for once). Grtz, Stef Ps: Yes I know, Ubisoft sucks blablabla, Watch dogs sucks blablabla... I know it's not the game they promised and doesn't perform well. It's not the best game ever, but I have played worse and I do enjoy it from time to time so I would like it fixed...

Ubisoft might need a drill if they dig any further. What have they done this time? Ubisoft has pulled their upcoming games from Steam, such as FarCry 4 and Assassin's Creed Unity. Valve or Ubisoft have not provided a statement as to why it has been pulled, but as seen before games such as FarCry 3 and Assassin's Creed 3 have been released late on Steam before. Ubisoft...I just want to like your games. Original article

GameInformer article: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/12/18/your-assassin-s-creed-unity-season-pass-free-game-comes-with-a-legal-catch.aspx Bad news, people! You can't sue Ubisoft if you got a free game as an apology for the problems in AC: Unity. So basically they're sayng "you get a free game, but don't tell anyone our game is bugged and full of problems"

So I just downloaded patch 1.4, it took me 49 hours at about 50KB/s, and now my game crashes after selecting "continue" on the menu. I tried searching for a solution, but all I could find was other people complaining about the same problem, and when I googled it it just came up with a bunch of articles saying "Patch 1.04 will alleviate most of the remaining bugs". If anyone has a solution please share it, I really want to play this game because despite how shitty Ubi is getting, I still enjoy their games. (Also this cost me $90AUD). Running an Intel CPU and AMD GPU, my rig is in my sig. EDIT: Updated with solution

So... I just ordered a 970 and I get to choose 1 free game, and my choices are Unity, Far Cry 4, and The Crew. While I am boycotting Ubisoft, I guess a free game is kinda hard to turn down. At first I was just gonna get Far Cry 4 because it does look kinda fun, I don't like AC to begin with so that's just not an option (it's just not my kind of game), but how is The Crew? Is it worth it over Far Cry 4? The only racing games I've ever really liked are the NFS ones that you can run from the police and stuff in.

TechLand, the creators of Dead Island and their current game, Dying Light, have recently decided to join the ranks of Ubisoft in the grave digging marathon, stating that 30 frames per second is “the optimal solution for Dying Light and all its gameplay features on consoles.”. "In such a fast-paced game, a stable frame rate is paramount.” “When you’re desperately trying to escape from a horde of pursuing Volatiles, even the smallest drop can lead to a mistimed jump and consequently your death. That’s why we made the choice to lock the frame rate at a rock-solid 30fps on consoles, at the same time reducing the input lag to the minimum. The result is a perfectly smooth, gameplay-tailored performance.” Wow! Seems like console and multi-platform developers cannot resist to run off their mouths and talk about how great 30 fps is, they want you to understand just how awesome it is and how it helps gameplay! Rock solid 30 fps and minimum input lag? Hmm, they seem like two mutually exclusive elements, but i guess we should put our trust in the game developers, right? You heard it right folks! They didn't stop there, here's their last statement to put the final nail in the coffin: “Focusing more on an enjoyable experience and less on numbers, we believe we hit the sweet spot with Dying Light’s performance on these platforms.” Because as we all know, there's nothing more enjoyable than the silky, buttery smooth 30 frames per second, for that perfect cinematic movie theater experience! After all, it is common knowledge that resolution and framerate are arbitrary numbers. Here's my take, this stuff is just getting out of hand, i'm sure that everyone, including the console user base, would appreciate to not be treated like complete idiots. I'm sure that most of these developers are not this stupid, so it leads me to think that Sony and Microsoft have a sway in their PR, apparently simply admitting that their hardware has its limits would cause damage. Apparently the right choice is to keep feeding lies and attempting to delude the public. Source: https://www.facebook.com/DyingLightGame/posts/503677419775309

So this might have shown up on here already (if so I'm sorry) but holy shit i just fond out about this now, Ubisoft is re releasing heroes 3 in HD for windows, ios, and android. Expected release date is January 29 2015. Growing up this was the first ever video game I ever played and probably still my favorite. So I'm very excited for a higher res release that hopefully will work on OS' later than XP, and not have to deal with the 3d crap that ruined the other heroes title IMO. At least for me, for the time being, Ubisoft has stopped digging . What are your favorite memories of playing this great game, and how do you feel about companies re releasing old classics? Ubisoft to Take Over Superpit Operations [Not Actually News]
saya_kucing posted a topic in PC Gaming
The recent drop in the Australian dollar has provoked long-time super-pit operations managers to contract PC game developer Ubisoft in order to reduce overheads and increase digging operations. The overseers of the gold mining operation have declared that in order to upscale efficiency they were left with few choices, however none as ingenious as their current model. The Superpit - the world's largest open-shaft mining operation located in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia has been struggling to keep up with demand and have previously had issues with scaling their venture. "The problems we face are that the demand for our goods is out competing our capabilities for growth... ...in order to secure the future of or company, we must adapt." a company spokesperson told media. Their new strategy will see Ubisoft, a well known PC gaming development company effectively take over the endeavor, claiming that if predictions are accurate, they should be able to increase the size of the pit from 3.6km*1.6km to double that by Q2, 2015. The size of the impact is not the only thing that will be seeing development. Current depth is also rumored to increase exponentially under Ubisoft's business model which could break through several layers of the earth's mantle by 2025. Many current employees of the company are criticizing the move - saying that it will put hundreds out of jobs and see the face of the community divided between cheap, fast results and those wishing to protect the environment.- 3 replies

Those of you who purchased the Assassin’s Creed: Unity season pass or Assassin’s Creed: Unity gold edition will soon be able to claim your free game. Ubisoft announced that it would be giving out free DLC and free games a couple of weeks back following the very troubled launch of this year’s Assassin’s Creed game. Those who didn’t buy the season pass will receive a free copy of the Dead Kings DLC. Those who did will be eligible for a free copy of one of the following games: Far Cry 4, The Crew, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Rayman Legends or Just Dance 2015.
