Hello Community, i'm searching for a mechanical keyboard. I want to have Cherry MX Brown switches and (really important) media control keys (play/pause, next song, last song). My budget is around 100€ (115 - 130$). Hope there is a good and not too expensive one. Greetings

So i feel like i am really slow at typing i don't think me having dyslexia helps one bit lol but i am not sure if that why i am a bit slower than most people at typing but if you guys know of any ways i could improve my typing such as any tests and things that would be great. Thanks

Well i am a software engineering student and i need help to choose a keyboard for my first build. The keyboard should be both for typing (i.e coding and regular typing for projects etc...) and gaming(i am not a pro gamer but i do play games to relax a bit ). LED backlit is a must because i code mostly at night and this would help a lot .I intend to use this keyboard for 4-5 years so i am looking for something that is durable . A quiet keyboard would be awesome as well So which keyboard should i buy guys ?

Hi, So I came across this Zalman ZM-K400G €25 "gaming" keyboard and I'd like to know if it is worth buying it. At this price, I'm not even sure it should be called a "gaming" keyboard, but the feature I'm more interested about is the back lightening. I'm not really gonna play with it, since I play all my games with a controller (sports, racing, adventures, fighting...) so I want to know if I should buy this keyboard,or this Logitech K310 which looks more designed for non-gamers and should be more silent and washable. I also trust Logitech products. So in short, what's better between a pseudo-gaming keyboard which seems not enough expensive (!) and a professional keyboard which has no back light but costs about the same price? Thanks

Hi guys, Yesterday my Logitech G19 died on me after just 2 months, so I contacted Amazon for a warranty replacement. They told me they have none in stock so they are just giving me a refund when the receive the keyboard back. So now's I have the opportunity to buy a keyboard again, I'm thinking of going mechanical, more specifically, the QPAD MK-80. I've never owned a mechanical keyboard before but have used them, and I quite like the feel from what short experience I have had with them. My question is, are the QPAD keyboards decent? The MK-80 is £5 cheaper than the £90 paid for the G19 so is ideal for the price range I'm aiming for, as I can't go over that price. I'm quite a fan of the cherry blue switches too, so if there are any other keyboards out there that utilise those within the price range, I'm open to suggestions. I do quite like the look of the QPAD MK-80 right now though. Cheers.

A while back I made a claim that some of the claims about mechanical keyboards are false. I got a response from AW3i which disagreed (shocking surprise): I've been thinking about this ever since and today I decided to test the theory for myself. The results are by no means definitive and probably won't even apply to you but here it goes: Four one minute typing speed tests for each keyboard at http://10fastfingers.com/typing-test/english The mechanical keyboard was Ducky Shine 2 with blue Cherry MX switches. The non-mechanical one was Logitech Illuminated with scissor type mechanism. Mechanical: ~74 words per minute (72, 77, 72, 74). Scissor: ~69 words per minute (65, 70, 71, 71). I'm surprised. I was sure that the mechanical wouldn't be any faster and yes, you can definitely say there's no real difference here. I guess that's the main point: there is no difference that would matter in any way.

Just another random poll on typing habits. Personally I use left hand for both space bar and shift (thumb and pinky) respectively, even though I am right handed, yet a lot of my friends use their right hand for both because they are right handed. I think the reason why I use my left hand so much is due to all the time I spent gaming and using WASD that it's just muscle memory because my right hand was almost always on my mouse.

I was talking to my friend the other day and he noted how I typed 'wrong' because I didn't follow the basic keyboard finger map, instead my hands danced all over the place and I didn't always use the same finger to press a key, instead of the proper way of typing where your fingers always rest on the home row. I was just wondering am I the only one that types like this? Personally I find having my fingers lingering on the home row to be uncomfortable and slow and I am able to type significantly quicker when I am able to switch it around a bit. In case you're wondering what the finger map is it's this thing:

I'm not trying to tell you you should, this is simply a curiosity of mine. Personally I didn't even know they existed until a while after I got my first mechanical keyboard, they kinda seemed odd and foreign to me. Upon becoming a regular browser of /r/mechanicalkeyboards I learnt that the people who had bought HHKBs were almost always in love with theirs, while all this time I had written them off as crazy people for spending that much. At this time I was in the same boat as I assume many of you are in, they are super expensive for the most part, and I had already spend a lot of cash on a Filco. That is, until my saviour came, and that saviour is the Leopold FC660C, a decently affordable Topre keyboard. Many of the reviews for it say that it is a nicer typing experience than a HHKB, but I personally can't say anything towards that as I haven't used one. Now here I am typing on Topre keyboard and loving every single keypress. If you do have one, lets hear about it! For more info on Topre key switches here are some links Lots of into on this page: Here You can find some info on this page: Here Want to buy one? Here is a good place (Shipping can take a while though) Happy Typing everyone

So I was wondering about this for a while and I just wanted to see your guys input and say about this,So typing we all do it. But how do you do it what letters on the keyboard do you start on before you start typing. Example:I start out on wasd for my left hand with my pinky on shift and my left thumb on space bar my right hand my left hand on ji and enter. This is kind of strange in comparison to the "Home Keys" which they teach you which are these http://www.typing-lessons.org/lesson_1.html. For me these are so hard to type with starting out I guess I type in a strange way,But that doesn't matter how do you type!

My dad needs a new keyboard. Which switches are the best for typing? What keyboard do you recommend? (it shouldn't be too expensive) thanks edit: oops, seems like the title is missing "my dad"

My keyboard has several broken keys, and many times just stops working. I'm looking to buy a new keyboard or a keyboard+mouse set for under $200. Because I have a $200 budget, I'm not too tight on money. Can someone recommend to me a keyboard that is good for both gaming and typing? The typing part is very important as I have to type a lot for the classes I am taking in college at the moment, but it should also be decent for gaming. I'm thinking about this one: http://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B0068INSUM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1390855186&sr=8-4&keywords=cooler+master+gaming+keyboard My friend has it, and is very satisfied with it. But are there any other suggestions?

I'm currently using a CM Storm trigger with cherry MX blues at home for gaming, but I need something I can take to school with me. I'm sick of typing on awful membrane keyboards that we have there. I have a few ideas but here's my prerequisites. Exclusively for typing long periods of time, barely any gaming whatsoever. I'll use my CM Storm Trigger for that. Nothing flashy, it's for school and professional use. Quiet(ish), tactile response. Probably going to be going with MX browns if I get a board with cherry switches. Tenkeyless, I need it to fit in my backpack. If not tenkeyless, It would need to still be under 16 inches or so. Nothing 60% as I hate the tiny space bars. Removable cord preferably, but not necessary. Needs to last practically forever. PBT Keycaps would be fantastic, but I can't seem to find ANYTHING in stock anywhere. For now, let's say that pricing is out of the question. I'm realistically trying to stay under $200 but I might go over that if it's really worth it. I know it's a rather tight list of requirements, but if I'm going to be spending this much on a board that I'll be using at least 4 days a week for the next few years (and even more after that once I get a job in the field) I want it to be exactly what I need. So I was looking at a few boards, and I'm looking for some advice from people with more experience in keyboards than I, and some opinions on possible alternatives. 1. Topre realforce 87u. I like the PBT caps, but I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about the Topre switches. From what I understand it's like a hybrid brown/membrane switch, if you will. I really hate the feel of membrane keys, but it's the lack of tactile feedback from them that I dislike. I've never typed on a Topre but I just continuously hear amazing things about them. I tend to bottom out my keys anyhow out of gaming habits (although I'm trying to stop doing so, I hate the sound of the plastic hitting the board) so I feel as if I would like the Topre. The only downside is while I'm not looking looking for something flashy, this thing is just unbelievably ugly. I can get over this though if the experience is really worth it. The price is a bit much, but I may be able to get over that too. 2. Ducky Shine 3 TKL. What I really want is the Ducky Pro TKL with PBT caps in all white. Unfortunately, I can't find it anywhere in the world not sold out. If anybody can tell me otherwise, PLEASE let me know. I'll pay a premium for this board. It has all the features I want and I LOVE the aesthetic. The Shine 3 TKL is my alternative that I was considering. It has the majority of the features I want, albeit a lack of PBT caps. I was considering one in white LEDs as that's not too flashy, and they can be turned off when needed. I've heard both extremely good and extremely bad things about ducky though. Hopefully somebody can back up either side. 3. Filco Ninja Majestouch 2. I've heard nothing but magnificent things about Filco and their boards. From what I've read and people have told me, Filco boards are some of the best in the world. I really like the aesthetic of the front printed keycaps, but the only downside is the only place I can find this currently is Amazon and while i'd happily pay $160 for it, I don't want to pay the $70 of shipping that also comes with it. As of right now my choice is the Ducky Shine 3 TKL, mainly because of the price and availability. I don't want to just "settle" for something if I can help it. I know I'll be happy with the shine 3, but I feel as if there is a better option out there, as I feel as if I'm compromising on a few things I really desire. Any advice or feedback on any of the aforementioned boards would be greatly appreciated, as would assistance as to where I could purchase any of the above. Especially that ducky pro with PBT in browns. It just looks so gorgeous Keep in mind I am in the USA for pricing and shipping.

I'm interested in getting my first mechanical keyboard and I've really been debating between the G710+ or the K70. Formerly the G710+ was the only option as it was the only one available with brown key switches, but now that the K70 is available with browns I have a bit of a problem. I am not a huge user of macro keys, and most of the gaming I do is MMOs. I keep a lot of in game functions (attacking skills, potions, etc.) on the function keys, so ideally I'd like the function keys to be more or less in line with the number keys. Sorry if this post seems like it's rambling on, but it's my first time posting on the Tech Tips forum. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

So recently I ordered myself a CM Storm Trigger blue keyboard to replace my Logitech G110. (Yes, I know.. I'm a membrane noob) The trigger doesn't have reactive typing, which IMO is a very cool but not entirely useful feature. I'm wondering if its possible for the trigger or any keyboard for that matter, to have software mods to give it different lighting control? Maybe a driver mod or something through the trigger's application? I understand this may very well be not possible but if anyone can give me some info or a link to somewhere with some, that would be great :) Cheers.
