  1. Summary Google has been working on a new, open-source technology to replace third-party cookies for tracking users called Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC)[0]. They have launched a trial on Chrome (versions 89 and up) which automatically opts in users who sync Chrome using their Google account and have not disabled third-party cookies[1]. The trial currently only extends to users in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, and the US. EFF has been openly critical of the technology[3] and just launch a site called "Am I FLoCed" to help users determine whether FLoC has been enabled on their browser[4]. DuckDuckGo has also shared criticism and updated their "DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials" Chrome extension to block the new technology[5]. Quotes My thoughts I stopped using Google Chrome (and most Google products) a few years ago because of growing privacy concerns with the company, so you can probably guess that I'm not a fan of this. This tech only benefits advertising companies like Google. They want to optimize their ads by collecting user data and using it for ad targeting. I don't feel any better having the trackers identify me as an intersection of groups instead of as an individual. The silver lining here is that other browser vendors haven't expressed any intent to implement the tech. Hopefully it doesn't propagate to other Chromium-based browsers. 2. Hi community Maybe someone knows where I can find this kind of programs ? My visualization is on a local computer so it is not possible to show it on a website or slides in a presentation in the most popular recording programs. I only have a webcam so ... will be harder to find. < removed by moderation > Thanks for any answers .... they will be helpful.
  3. Summary USPS (United States Postal Service) reportedly using ClearView AI en mass as part of their Internet Covert Operations Program, tracks people all over, including through social media, and shares it with DHS and NSA. Quotes My thoughts Well, this isn't good. The pretext of the USPS is that this is for protection of their workers, to identify protestors/agitators showing up in an area to then avoid. That's great, but even if we took that as true and the only motive, this leaves a huge privacy issue...even before the network of information sharing they're part of. When combined with the mail scanning and recording that already goes on under the pretext of consumer convenience (being able to see pictures of your packages and each envelope going to your mailbox, along with where they are), this really starts to give the USPS way too large of a treasure trove of data for another government org to reference...and makes it that much easier for government to start acting more like China and target particular people and groups. There are of course big 1st and 4th Constitutional Amendment issues with this as well. ClearView has been a hot topic in the past...and sadly it probably will continue to be, until somebody else does it better or cheaper. The technological genie is out of the bottle, so to speak. Sources https://news.yahoo.com/facial-recognition-fake-identities-and-digital-surveillance-tools-inside-the-post-offices-covert-internet-operations-program-214234762.html https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/usps-reportedly-uses-clearview-ai/ IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a political post, despite many of the concerns being political due to the USPS being a government entity. Please be respectful of the mods and the LTT forum rules when discussing.
  4. One of the best reasons to build your own pc is security. BUT how can I be sure components I buy are not participating in uXDT or other forms of tracking?
  5. Summary I've encountered a strange issue on my work laptop and home desktop. When loading any website a <style type="text/css"> gets added. This css is loaded with trackers, and advertisements to sketchy websites. It's been a long time since I've done webdev, but it looks like it attempts to hijack existing ad spots on websites and serve their own ads. I've confirmed this happens in Chrome and Opera. This does not happen in Edge. The most concerning thing to me is that this is happening on my work laptop, which my company monitors. Some of these URLs are for things that would certainly get me fired. I have never looked at anything like this on that computer, nor have I plugged in a USB, so I'm not sure how it got on my laptop. Steps taken to produce issue 1. Load a webpage in Opera or Chrome. I use this URL because it's easy to find the fake stylesheet (https://phet-dev.colorado.edu/html/build-an-atom/0.0.0-3/simple-text-only-test-page.html) 2. Right click, inspect element 3. Look for a <style type="text/css"> , this is generally under <head> 4. Expand and note that it's full of trackers and advertisements I've attached the results that I see as a .HTML file of the website, in this case the fake stylesheet is showing on line 12. Steps taken to resolve issue I've cleared my cache, cookies, all browsing data, rebooted, ran CCleaner, and MalwareBytes. The issue persists. I did test another laptop on my home network and I didn't find any signs of this, so that rules out router issues. I'm sure this is just some kind of tracker that is incredibly suborn. If you have any ideas on how to remove it please let me know. Thanks, Denholm Simple Text Only Test Page.html
  6. Hi everyone! would anyone be interested in an app that would allow tracking used hardware prices? Couple of years ago I started a project for an app that would allow tracking prices of used computer hardware. I've been developing it solo as a side-project, so it took some time but also allowed me to accumulate a significant amount of data - I have over 2 years of historic offerings (currently it's only ebay) for some of the names. I've finally finished the alpha version of the android client that actually displays price graphs, watchlists, etc. It's quite lightweight, written in flutter, so it's crossplatform and I have plans of releasing it on iphones as well in the future. I would be really really glad if this project would be of interest to the LTT community and you would consider checking it out - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.finitefield.hardwareboerse It has to be in testing available to join by this link, It's an alpha, so there definitely might be bugs, and it requires an email registration as a precaution against data retrieving api being abused. Couple of screenshots attached, Please comment or contact development@hardwareboerse.com if you would like to check it out but are experiencing access issues
  7. Ello, So I like to play using fast DPI settings (1,000-2000) and mostly play FPS games. My current mouse-pad is the Razer Goliathus Speed. I've been using it since 2016, and it has finally wearied out. I am currently in the look out for a "newer" version of a mouse-pad, since many of them came out and I've seen a lot of "reviews" on YouTube and Reddit, however still, I am confused on which to go with that will match my gaming sensitivity style. So far, here is what I "think" might match my style: Coolermaster MP510 X-RAYPAD THOR Odin ZERO GRAVITY Glorious XXL Extended I am open for all recommendations and suggestions. I do not have any set budget, so go for any price. Also, I have never tried 'hard' pads, and I don't think I might like them. Looking forward!
  8. Hi all. I want to put a tracker on my phone (xperia XA) to prevent any stealing or any problem that may involve me don't knowing where my phone is. But i'm not finding any free software on google. So, do anybody here know an app that can do that for me ?
  9. I have a Deathadder 2013, which I no longer use, and a Deathadder Chroma. Both of these mice appear to be having some major issues: 1: Moving either of these mice in many games causes me to drop frames. My GPU usage goes down by anywhere from 10% to 60% on average. Moving a random mouse I have (from Lenovo) has absolutely no problems. 2: Both of these mice are having extreme tracking issues in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and are tracking as though I have some sort of variable sensitivity. They are both completely inconsistent. The previously mentioned Lenovo mouse has no issues. Both of the above only appear to be happening within games as I see no problems outside of gaming use. My system specs are below the post. This has been happening for (roughly) the past 5 days, and I've had no hardware or software changes within this time. Drivers COULD have been updated behind my back, alongside Windows 10. I've tried using different USB ports, and have also tried uninstalling the drviers (and Razer Synapse entirely) for these mice. Please don't bother commenting something like "Razer are shit", as that's just an opinion, and your opinion doesn't help me fix my problem. Thanks
  10. The mouse I bought for christmas, the G502, haws recently had Tracking problems. And i don't understand why. I have it plugged in a USB 3.1 port, I have lowered the Polling rate, I changed ports, I checked my settings, both in the software and on Windows. Any ideas? If you want more information, please ask! Thanks a lot!
  11. Total newbie question: Can I somehow track emails going out from webmail? I have a website and with the webhosting came email addresses that I could use. (is this even English?) My host is using roundcube as email client, or whatever the real term for this is. I know that there are services that allow tracking for Gmail and Outlook, but I couldn't see an option to "connect" my email from the website with Gmail or Outlook. I still want to know whether my emails have been opened or not, as this is essential to me for organizing the dates. I won't mind it if I have to do some non-trivial steps to achieve the tracking, as long as there is a descriptive guide to do that. By googling I found Piwik, but I have absolutely no idea what exactly it is and what I can do with it. Also, since English isn't my native tongue and I am totally new on this topic, I'd appreciate correcting my mistakes (using the wrong terms etc.) Thanks in advance!
  12. In a 'How can this possibly go wrong?' kind of way, Google at their annual Marketing Next conference has announced their new Google Attribution system to help advertisers figure out if their marketing is truly working. Basically Google will be using a combination of machine learning on data that it has collected and data from 'third-party partnerships, which capture approximately 70% of credit and debit card transactions in the United States' to model whether an ad is truly getting you to do out and buy a product. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/google/google-will-track-your-offline-credit-card-payments-to-make-advertisers-happy/ Seems like Google may be really bending that whole 'Don't Be Evil' thing on this one here. I know that all of this data will be collected no matter what I do (unless I destroy my computer, withdraw all the money from the bank and work in cash only), but aggregating this data to target ads better is kind of a creepy move, especially considering how some fourth party may want to collect this processed (or non-processed) data for their own purposes...
  13. My mouse stops tracking when making long and fast (about 23cm swipes) swipes over my mousepad, it just stops midway. I've tried slowing down and it solves the problem which poses some issues when making fast 180 degree turns in Overwatch and other games. Mouse: Asus Ceberus Ambidextrous Mouse MousePad: SteelSeries Qck Mass I have done some research before hand, some mentioned that the polling rate of the mouse low? Or Maybe the mouse's IPS(inch per second) rating is low? Or mousepad is bad? (tried the mouse on another random mouse pad surface, same issue) I can't really make any conclusions from this, Let me know if ya need more info Forgive me if I posted on the wrong section, I'm new btw
  14. My Story: I recently started earning some money this opens up a lot of new perspectives for an otherwise rather poor student. I had tried the Oculus twice at Gamescom 2016 - both times in sitting position - and was utterly unimpressed with what I saw. This and the price were reasons why VR wasn't very interesting to me until recently. I saw a review of the Pimax 4K and tried and HTC Vive at a local store - this time in a standing position - and "oh boy!" that was so much better. I thought: The Pimax could be it, my perfect cheap entrance to VR. Luckily I even found one on ebay for 260€ from a guy who got a Vive for christmas so he never opened or let alone used his Pimax. I went ahead and bought it. It was and is still interesting but I keep running into limitations. It is either the missing appropriate tracking (Pimax only has 3 axis tracking) or some other technical quirks of the glasses I don't want to get into right here. In conclusion I got a first look at VR on the cheap. Currently I am trying to sell the Pimax again and considering either getting a Vive or a Rift but i am not sure. I also had another taste of the Oculus Rift - this time standing - and it didn't feel worse than the Vive though there were mutliple weeks between trying both (adda grain of salt here). Since I now have the cash but not the knowledge I need to make a conscious buying decision I came here to ask you some things and compile what i found out so far. There are some pros and cons and I don't feel like luke has said enough in his month old "final answer". Do you personally have experience with both or any of these and can help me with this? Please leave a suggestion! (Notes: I have -1 on each - myopic that is - on each eye so without glasses is usually fine but I'd prefere to fit them in there I'd generally prefere not to support Facebook since i do not agree with a lot of things they do. I might be able to completely overlook that though if someone comes up with the ultimate feature of the rift I forgot I also don't like the exclusivity since it locks people out of games in an already small industry rough measuring I have couch to desk 2 meters and wall to the middel of the room 2.5m-3 meters of space (3770k @4.6GHz and a GTX 1080 should be enough power) So far I know (open question are marked in bolt - Feel free to add some to these if I forgot about something): Oculus: Way cheaper at 499€ from amazon + 119€ for the Touch controllers for a total of 620€ Shorter, thinner cable smaller FoV looking through a porthole feeling. On first impression text can be read easily, more easily that with Vive (subjective feel) lighter headset Removable headphones but not advised since stock sound is pretty good though I Comes with an X-BOne Controller Touch controllers are more ergonomic and pick up gestures better Controllers take AA batteries not yet sure if that is a good or a bad thing (claimed 30 hour battery life) Cams are "only" 69€ which i consider an ok price lighter controllers 4m long headset cable. Seems just long enough for my purposes Needs 4 USB ports, 3 of which have to be 3.0 ... srsly? 2.5m Cable for the cams - more bad than good. I am also missing unoccupied USB Ports: Should i get an PCIe extension for some more? Seems to have a lot more (partly exclusive) games than Vive (help please) I have no idea how good or bad the tracking really is when used in room scale mode Comes with a Remote o_O wth is that for? What games does it come with? The 6 listed on the Oculus website? (here:https://www.oculus.com/rift/) Robo Recall is included with the Touch controllers It Seems harder to clean than the Vive- specifically the headset's pad. Is that correct? How has your experience with their store and software been so far? Vive: starts at 899€ Controllers have proprietary batteries which are at 960mAh not even that large bulky 5m tri-cable solution (There is a separat 3to1to3 cable solution which costs 45€ or is that included nowadays?) uses only one USB 2.0 port heavier headset Higher FoV but also more screen door effect, harder to read text. More immersed feel (my subjective feeling) no included headphones, headphone strap available soon Additional lighthouse sensor is 150€ Additional controllers can be purchased but are 145€ has the cat cam though I don't have any livestock in house that I could step on, lul comes with 5 meh games as far as I can tell. (Subjectively I consider job simulator-like only meh) comes with in ear headphones though I will probably not use them since I have DT880s or Hifiman Re400s On steam are considerably more games listed that support the Vive though that doesn't say anything about a singular game's quality heavier controllers Are the Vive trackers (coming soon) any interesting for a consumer like me? How has your experience with their store and software been so far? I will probably have to add points later on but this is what is on my mind for now. The dilema basically is that I liked the roomscale-ness of the Vive but don't actually have that much room and the Oculus is 270€ (maybe 200 with a third camera subtractred) cheaper than the Vive but I think contrary to to so many things Oculus and Facebook stand for in the industry AND to add insult to the injury the Touch controllers really are better than the Vive Controllers. HALP ME PLS!
  15. Is it possible to do this effect in Vegas Pro (14), with one end of a line staying stationary whilst the other is able to move, in this case, tracking an object. (start at 1:28) If so, how?
  16. Hey there! So about 1 month ago I purchased a new Razer Naga Epic Chroma, upgrading from its predecessor the razer naga 2014. I had never had issues until the last couple months with the naga, the cursor would freeze up and just spazz all over the screen occasionally. After that I decided it was time to change, so I got the Razer Naga Epic Chroma, which was doing fine for a bit less than a month. The problem was the same problem I had with the previous naga, just spazzed all over the screen and froze randomly, pretty frequently. I decided it was time to get it replaced after I tried everything in my power and knowledge to fix it. For the first week of the replacement coming in it was doing perfectly fine, but whenever I plug it in with the wire it just stars to spazz out all over the screen, and occasional freeze. When it is wireless there is rare freezing but I bought this mouse to be able to use it wired/wireless, and this is preventing me from doing so. This problem also occurs in the bios, I do not have another pc to test it but I'm going over to a friends soon and could test it there. I really hope I do not need to get it replaced / refunded as I am very fond of this mouse, could there be a comparability issue with my system setup? MOBO: Gigabyte Z87 (not sure exact model) CPU: i7 4770k @4.5GHZ GPU: 760 PSU: Cooler Master 600W Thank you for your time, Ryan.
  17. So a couple of weeks ago I was browsing Redbubble looking for T-shirt’s with Grim Fandango designs. I did this on my iPad using either Chrome or Safari. I had never logged into Facebook in either of those browsers before. Today when using the Facebook app, on the same iPad, I suddenly got an ad for Redbubble and T-shirt’s with Grim Fandango designs. How does Facebook do that?
  18. And another incident of the industry flooding the market with cheapo devices without thinking the security road through fully. This time it's really frightening, because it endangers children. Some parents give their offspring smart, gps trackable devices to monitor their whereabouts. Although there is discussion about whether that's a good or bad thing, it definitely gets much, much worse when these devices are smarter than they need to be and not secure at all. Norwegian security researchers analyzed such GPS-enabled smartwatches, and the results are bad: A summary: https://www.mnemonic.no/news/2017/watchout/ Article from the researchers: https://www.forbrukerradet.no/side/significant-security-flaws-in-smartwatches-for-children Both webpages include demonstrational videos of the findings. (The german website where I stumbled upon this topic first: https://www.golem.de/news/gps-tracking-kindersmartwatches-sind-ein-datenschutz-desaster-1710-130818.html) The Forbrukerradet article says: Some of the failings are: Better turn off those devices for now until the manufactures provide secure firmware. And hope, that they will do this at all. P.S.: I do not know, whether these devices are also sold in North America, but I assume, that the devices that are available there might have similar flaws. Maybe somebody should check them up as well.
  19. I had seen some trackers for kids, dogs etc. But, I want to know is there any small tracker that I can place into the car and see my car location on the map while shopping in the market. I want to eradicate the chances of car theft. If anyone can provide some sort of information then it can help me a lot. Thanks!
  20. Dear People, Recently I did an outdoor event at a carnival using a few Vive Headsets as a VR Arcade. During the event our systems worked REALLY well except for a few specific times of the day. Is there some way on Vive or app to turn on the front camera or some kind of inside the headset that would show you where the headset was picking up IR signals from so we could track down what's causing the tracking problem? Maybe something that looks like the 3D front camera view but showed red colored lines or dots where it was getting interference from? Also, is there very much potential for the HMD for the Vive to overheat sometimes and cause any sort of problems? Extra info on what problems we were having: -Most of the mid day sun didn't cause a problem, but we started noticing tracking problems with some sunlight leaks coming into our tents. In one case it was one headset having a major problem at 2 or 3 specific points in the room scale. We ended up finding out that a car parked about a half a mile away was reflecting sunlight from it's windshield and just enough of it was shining through the trees to go through the front entrance of our tent (Entrance was facing away from the sun too which is why we were so confused for so long). -Another issue we sometimes had was tracking issues because of tiny pin holes in the top of our tent, or sometimes just worn down spots that weren't blocking sun. Cheers, Canto666Hades
  21. Ok so, I have just sold my PC and have completed the UPS collection and delivery etc. It did not have a changeable collection time whilst I was making it so my PC will be collected from 9:00am to 6:00pm. I want to change this but I can't seem to do that without a collection request number which was apparently displayed when I initially submitted my collection request. If anyone knows how to get the collection request number then please tell me... I cant get anywhere with this... Thanks, Brennan Price.
  22. Let me start by saying that I had a successful camera track and solve of some footage I had prepared in blender with a large number of highly visible tracking points. The majority of the tracking points remained throughout the entire shot and checking individual tracks in the track preview window showed that the trackers stayed properly centered on each point. I was working on setting up my scene and decided to call it a night, but I ended up opening blender again a few minutes later. To my confusion, there was a very noticeable jitter in the track and I could see my model sliding around the footage, whereas before I closed the software the model was locked to the footage. I checked through each point and saw that each and every point lost the track at the exact same time and in the exact same way (the track "slipped" in the same directions for each). This surprised me as each of the tracks had been successfully locked to their respective tracking points before. I had not locked the points so I assumed something had caused them all to shift, so I cleared the tracks and started over. Everything was fine until this morning, when I opened Blender and found that each of my LOCKED points had "jittered" at the exact same times and in the exact same ways, ruining the track again. I'm really at a loss for what to do here. Update: I've played around with this further and it appears to be an issue with switching from the motion tracking view to the default view. Even if I apply the camera solver constraint while in the motion tracking view, creating actual keyframes for the camera position, it will still ruin the track when I switch back to the default mode. Update 2: The issue appears to be an issue with a mismatched background video file that starts at a different time than the track.
  23. So I'm a truck driver, and my girlfriend is interested in following my adventures to see where I'm at, seeing as I am a national driver and I have already done trips from California to Pennsylvania. She can see where I'm at on Facebook since I have "Nearby Friends" turned on, however it takes time for her to see this update and its very basic. We would like a way for her to pull up Google Maps, but see my location, and watch my little arrow go just like using navigation. Any ideas on this?
  24. Since when is this a thing, and is that where we're going now?
  25. My Logitech G700s mouse (wired) will work completely fine when I use it on my wooden desk. No problems at all. Then I try to use it on my Steel Series mouse pad (which you would expect to be compatible since they're the same brand), but it stutters like CRAZY. All sources I have found so far tell me to turn on surface tuning in the drivers, but there is no setting for that for the G700s drivers. The battery is new, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on my mouse pad. Does anybody know how to fix this?
