  1. I was wondering how the battery life is and whether or not the keyboard is as good as a normal laptop. Also, does it do well on a couch, i don't want it falling off then breaking . I like the tablet feature but a 2 in 1 might be worth it as well as the xps 13
  2. Do you think that 2 in 1s are worth it? Things like the yoga 700, inspiron 15, and hp spectre seem intriguing, Does anyone have any expeiriebce with them. I am currently looking into new laptops and think these might be a good option for media consumption and day to day life. What do you think?
  3. source: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-apple-lawsuit-touchscreens-idUSKCN1141OJ?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=Social about a week ago, "news" broke out over possible design flaws with Apple's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus' Touch ID circuitry well, someone(s) is taking Apple to task why oh why couldn't Apple used few cents of underfill to secure those chips in place is beyond comprehension, especially since they used it for other ICs on the logic board and especially since it was used in previous phones
  4. PROJECT HAS BEEN SCRAPPED - I switched to the Air 240. While I liked the S340, I wanted the more compact size of the mATX case and the Air 240 has a construction perfect for my mods. Concept: After completing my custom made white carbon fiber desk, I felt my NZXT Source 210 was due for an upgrade. I wanted a white case that was sleek and simple to mod. Therefore, it was a no brainer to go with the S340. The goal is not really to spec out my computer (though I am considering it), but a white and pinkish-red theme that looks good. One thing I have always wanted to do is incorporate an Arduino or RPi to add additional function to the case and I am going to add in a touchscreen to the front of the case (see renders below) to not only monitor CPU and GPU temps, but also control leds and fans via PWM as well as a backup function that was inspired by a DIYPerks video. Renders: Parts List: Current Setup AMD FX-4300 @ 4.4Ghz Corsair H100i V2 Cooler (inb4 people say overkill, I got it for free) MSI 970A-G43 Motherboard 12GB G.Skill Trident X Memory AMD Radeon HD 6670 GPU 550W XFX Bronze PSU 240GB Kingston SSD 1TB Seagate HDD Progress: nothing yet, but demos of the features of the touchscreen and arduino will be coming soon.
  5. Looking for a 13 to 14 inch laptop with touch screen and have a budget of around $600. Mostly using it for email word documents, and web browsing. Would love to have AC wifi and a SSD. Any suggestions?
  6. Is the iPhone 5 completely terrible? I didn't think so until what is in the attached image happened this morning. I didn't drop it or anything, I was just holding it and texting and then I felt something else other than the phone in my hand, then I saw what had happened, I then put my case on and am probably never going to take it off again...any tips on getting this to stay in place again or why this even happened in the first place?
  7. I got a new laptop recently Dell - Inspiron 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i5 - 6GB - 1TB Hard Drive - Matte silver on sale the thing is it has touchscreen I know how to turn it off by going into device manager then disabling it by right clicking but I've actually like the touchscreen when just browsing the web or doing something casual. The problem is when I'm getting advice from people when working in Photoshop they like to point at the screen and move stuff around by accident also I have a friend who thinks it's funny to try to turn of my laptop via touchscreen and other minor annoyances have made me wish there was a quick way to toggle it on and off Key commands would work the best if there's a program that could add that or if there's a program that could help toggle it via taskbar or something I just don't want to go deep into my setting every time I want to turn it on or off I'm running Windows 10 Any suggestions would be great
  8. Hey guys, I'm looking in to getting a new monitor and upgrading my setup as a whole Q2/3 this year. I'm going for a 4K monitor but I was hoping to somehow make it touchscreen? I recently got a Dell XPS 15 and have fallen in love with using windows on a touchscreen and constantly find myself trying to press things on my current monitor. So... 2 questions: 1: What decent price/24-32" monitor would you guys suggest (preferably 4K) 2: Is there any way this monitor could be touchscreen or made to be so? Cheers in advance..
  9. Hey, for about a year now my phone has been having some weird issues, the touch screen becomes very non responsive to touch, if i can get it to acknowledge me and unlock the phone it spams buttons on the screen, but now the sessions in which it does this have been getting longer making the phone practically worthless. Furthermore the bottom bar used for navigation never detects when i touch it. I have a nexus 4 running andriod 5.1 cyanogen mod. I have tried many different OS's telling me its not a software error. I have dropped the phone a few times but the screen is not broken, maybe i need to replace a part? any help is very appreciated.
  10. I recently got a nexus 6p and have admittedly been babying it for the last couple of weeks. I put it down very gently, not keep it in my pocket while sitting down etc. basically im really careful with it. I was doing something on my phone today and this guy in my class though it would be really funny to just come up and tap random things on my screen. He pressed quite hard, like with an audible thump, and I'm worried that there was damage done to my phone. So my question is this, how hard can you press on a touchscreen without damaging it and is there anything i can do to confirm that mine is still ok, just to give me peace of mind? Thanks
  11. When browsing the internet my cursor stopped moving on my Laptop (Toshiba Satellite, windows 10) so i restarted my laptop and it did some updates then once it was done the cursor had vanished and only the touchscreen worked so after restarting again a few more times in attempt to get my cursor back the touchscreen also stopped working. the cursor came back a few times after restarting but i am unable to move it. reading online many forums say "FN F5" but this does work for me. the "FN" (function) key works because i can increase and decrease brightness and volume which requires the function key. so I don't think it is a problem with the function key... Any ideas?
  12. This is actually a fairly neat setup, I'm tempted to give it a go since I have a fair amount of home automation tech already, especially my security system, so it would be a decent exercise to see how well an all in one system like this would actually work. Curious to see how well the router end of things are. The home automation stuff is generally not THAT complicated on the underside, the router tech however. If this is actually a very good router, it would make for a great purchase for those who aren't swapping out routers or other components all the time. http://www.engadget.com/2015/04/01/almond-home-automation-routers/ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R0C2U5E/
  13. Hey guys i was wondering if having say a 144hz non-touch screen center monitor and 2 touchscreen 120hz monitors on the sides would work? as in maybe having a game running center and changing pandora and another sceen using touch. I want a triple setup like this if possible. thanks in advance guys.
  14. Hello! So i recently got a new laptop which has a touch screen so i thought why not put android on there. Now, i'm not gonna sideload android because i plan to install it on a separate external harddrive but i wanna know, is there any harm that it could do to my computer? I don't think there is a possibility that it can screw up my computer so bad that i can't use it anymore but hey, i'm a human and i can't get everything right. So what do you guys think? Thanks --FTPCraft
  15. I have a touchscreen laptop, a Lenovo S210 Touch, that I want to install either elementary OS or Ubuntu 15.04 on. Only problem - whenever I try to install either I need to plug in a USB keyboard and USB mouse to get it working as the only input allowed seems to be the touchscreen, therefor making it impossible to enter info about me, my WiFi password, etc. Any way to solve this? Thanks.
  16. The application describes a technology that could be intended for use in products like Apple’s Magic Trackpad or Magic Mouse This could also be potentially used in future iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches thereby kinda solving the battery problem. But then again, it would probably take years to implement this feature and for the time being the trackpads seems to be Apple's target Source: http://9to5mac.com/2015/07/16/apple-solar-cell-touch-screen-patent/
  17. Hey all I'm in the market for a 13.3" ultrabook and i'm fairly set on the ASUS UX303LN. Now, Asus offer both a 3200x1800 and a 1920x1080 display. I was going for the QHD+ but then i saw some reviews saying a 1080p display would be better. I haven't really used many laptops but i would think the QHD+ display would be better considering its touchscreen and that the screen would be a lot closer than a desktop monitor, but some are saying the colours are off and that the QHD isn't worth the adverse effect on battery life. any advice would be great, cheers
  18. I'll put the TL;DR at the top so people notice it.... TL;DR - is the xps 12 good in general? Good for a comp. sci major? Does the lack of a digitizer noticeably affect it? Should I wait for broadwell/skylake? Suggestions for similar alternatives? Okay, my idea is that I can buy an XPS 12 laptop for college. It is light and thin, so it is convenient for my commute. It also converts easily to a tablet, and I figure I can use a stylus to take notes on it. This saves me the trouble of buying paper ad infinitum, and also allows me to pretty much have all my notes with me all the time without the added weight. So my first question is, if anyone happens to know based on experience, is this worth it? Or will I eventually just stop using the tablet + stylus and go back to pen + paper? Additionally, I know the XPS 12 doesn't have a digitizer. Does anyone have any experience using a stylus on an XPS 12 or similar product that could inform me of the pros and cons. Or can tell me about a way to avoid the uncomfortable "white board" method of writing with your hand raised off the screen? (I suppose I could wear a glove if I want to look real dorky...which I'm okay with). I also know broadwell and skylake is around the corner, but I'm unfamiliar with the typical release cycles. Do you think I'd be better off waiting to see if the XPS 12 gets a refresh / a totally new model comes out with some similar features? Finally, I AM in fact a computer science major. I have a more powerful rig at home and I commute, so I don't really need mobile heavy lifting. Regardless, do you think this is an okay choice of laptop overall? If anyone has suggestions for alternatives, feel free to say so. However, I am interested in something that manages to do the laptop and the tablet thing both pretty well, which is why I was attracted to XPS 12 as opposed to Surface 3 which leans more towards tablet. I'm also not too fond of models where the screen detaches from the keyboard to make it a tablet. The xps 12 is (seemingly) the only model that is equal parts tablet and laptop, and also manages to do so without removing the screen or having the keyboard stick out.
  19. i am thinking about getting two of them. This is because when i get the second one with the first one the second one is really cheep and was wondering what you guys thought about it. Here is the link http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&sku=859-BBBC
  20. Vendors stop developing touchscreen notebooks according to DigiTimes Source: http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20140929PD205.html Looks like Linus' touchscreen dream is somewhat coming to an end. ultrabooks and 2-in-1 devices with touchscreens will continue to exist gaming- and traditional notebooks won't have touchscreens in the future Personally I can't really comment on the usefulness of a touchscreen on a notebooke since I've never used one extensively, though nor have I ever seen anyone else use one either, but reducing the cost by removing a feature that wasn't widely used does seem like a good idea for the consumer and for the manufacturer.
  21. Hey, so here is my story. I recently purchased a cool new summer truck. It is a great vehicle, minus the sound system. The deck/head unit feels like it is from 20 years ago, and it sounds like crap all around. So why no put in some new speakers, a sub, and a new head unit? Well I fell in love with the touch screen,Bluetooth, phone thing head unit in the car i had rented. Upon some research, the hardware alone to do a touch screen deck with things like hands free calls and gps would cost me 800-1000$ from the local car audio store (Canadian BTW.) At first I was thinking my phone can already do all of that, but then I found windows 7/8 2dins. It could theoretically get internet access through my phone(3gnetwork) or wifi. I could get things like Google, Google Maps, Youtube, and a endless source of bad ideas to look at while driving. Here is what I found. Yes, I know, It is not supposed to be used while driving. Well maybe the passenger. "no officer, I am not playing Minecraft while driving." "Do you know how ridiculous you sound right now?" http://e3io.com/mini-itx-double-din-car-pc The base model is 1000$ USD. It includes no OS, no shipping outside the US. and only a 1 year warranty. Then the adult side of me comes out, "Hey I spent that much on my gaming PC." And I found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERI3rrz4UY4 I would consider my self a novice when it comes to PC builds, but i have worked on vehicles my whole life. So yeah I think I want to build one my self (kinda like in the first link.) I am left with all kinds of questions, from hardware, to software, to an inverter (if it even needs one.) Maybe I should go with the pre-made one, or just a regular vehicle 2din. I am going to do a lot more research on how to build it, how to include local radio / hands free calls, windows vs. Linux ect. ect. Maybe a Pokemon emulator. Maybe have it control a Parrot AR Drone that docks in the bed of the truck? I would appreciate all help, advice and to be talked out of doing this. Thanks,

  24. Review of the ASUS X202E CT-001H Unboxing The notebook is shipped in a modest cardboard box with a easy handgrip on the top. On the front are the specs and some details about the notebook. If you so desire you could use the cardboard box as a cheap lowbudget carrying case. De inhoud van de box is van links naar rechts van boven naar onder: - European guide lines - ASUS X202E CT-001H - Screen cleaning cloth - Warranty Guide Asus (2 year pickup & return) - Usermanual NL - Usermanual ENG The notebook itself: Asus did a really good job on designing this notebook. It looks just like the higher-end zenbooks. When you open it you will immediately notice the nice qwerty-keyboard surrounded by aluminium. It types well and has a reasonably long travel to the keys. The touchpad under the keyboard measures 10 by 6 cm. The left/right mousebuttons are also touchsensitive and intergrate seemlessly. The 11,6 inch 10 point multi touch screen is surrounded by a bezel of about 2-3 cm. This allows you to use the built-in gestures of Windows 8. There is a small gap between the keyboard and the screen which functions as exhaust. The underside is made of plastic and contains a vent for air intake. The rubber anti-slip feet prevent the notebook from slipping from your working space and create a little bit of clearence for air intake. Taking the plastic part of the underside is a huge pain in the butt. You have to take a creditcard or something similair and guide it trough the groove. If you excecute this properly the guts of the laptop will be visible. You will see a half-sized pci-e slot which is filled with a Atheros AR5B125 wireless b/g/n module. This card is replaceable. The 320gb 5400rpm hard disk made by Hitachi. This one is also interchangeable with a ssd/hdd with a max height of 7mm. The motherboard is located at the right side of the hdd. It’s equipped with a Intel Celeron B847 @1,1 GHZ and 2gb ddr3-1333mhz (soldered on, not replaceable). There is no discrete graphicscard, it’s using the igpu (intel hd2000). It will be fine for normal 2D, and light 3D tasks. At the bottom right there is the 4800 mAh battery which takes up the most space and weight (total weight: 1,3 kg and dimensions in cm LxWxH: 30 x 20 x 2,2). Size compared to a 15,6 inch notebook: Size: It’s very portable and doens’t take very long to get use to. You can compare it to an oversized tablet with dockingstation. My old Asus K50IJ feel like a huge monster and I can tell the pixels, which I didn’t notice when I was using is. It has the same resolution on a much larger screen which results in a lower ppi ratio. Also the x202e has a very compact power adaptor, which is also a pretty big advantage. You don’t have a large brick lying next to you, but instead it’s a little block the size of a tape-measure. It’s attached to the power plug, so it doens’t dangle in the air. The lenght of the cord is 2,40 meter. Dimensions adaptor (LxWxH): 5 x 5 x 2,5 First Impression: Robust, solid and compact. It boots up reasonably fast with Windows 8 and everything is easy to find when you get used to it. Coming from windows 7 I have little complaints. I wished they would make a little introduction video, because at first I didn’t know how to do basic tasks like shutting it down or searching documents. The desktop is abot the same as Windows 7 except for the start menu. I’m not really a fan of Modern UI, it feels a tad childish. Most people complain about it, but microsoft doesn’t force you to use it. And you can add the start menu via a third-party app if you so desire. Screen quality: The screen looks sharp indoor compared to my old ASUS K50IJ (same resolution but 15,6”). The TN-panel has poor viewing angles, but that isn’t an issue if you use it alone. It has a glossy finish which results in a lot of reflection outdoors, but there can be dealt with by pointing the back of the screen to the sun. It’s not really a fingerprint magnet, but it doens’t hurt to wipe the screen every once in a while. Connections: Left side (left to right): power in, 100mb ethernetport, 2x USB 2.0, kensington lock. Right side (left to right): VGA, USB 3.0, 3.5mm audio/mic combo, SD cardreader. Theoretical prestations: The celeron is often looked at as a slow piece of shit. Altough it is not the fastest in any stretch of the imagination, it is not a piece of shit. In most systems the bottleneck is the hdd, NOT the cpu. In this case the 5400rpm Hitachi disk. It can keep op in the Modern UI, because of the fullscreen apps. Once you go in the desktop environment it will struggle to keep up. It will constantly spike to 100 percent usage while excecuting more than one task. CPU usage will usualy be under 50 percent when the HDD begings to spike, and RAM usage will be under 1,5/2gb (75%). The Intel HD2000 plays youtube videos without any hassle. It struggles when playing dvd-rips, but after a few second the stuttering is gone. Real world performance Very good for the price. As said, the hdd is the bottleneck in multitasking scenario’s , but it’s easy to replace (with a crucial m4 in my case). The speed of any current ssd can be fully utilized because of the intel hm70 chipset. When the hdd is removed, you can throw it in an external usb3 case for quick and easy external storage. Bang for the buck Excellent, when I bought this notebook in december 2012 it was about 400 euro’s. Meanwhile the price has gone down by a little. I can recommend it in combination with an SSD, it’s blazing fast in normal browsing and other low power tasks, but it lacks the power for difficult tasks. Battery life Good, but not excellent. On the internet it was stated to get 6 hours of battery life. This may be true, but you have to leave it idle. Your average (grand)mother will get about 3-4 hours, but the average techfanatic will be getting between 1,5 and 3 hours of battery life. The notebook charges quickly if not in use, when in use it will barely charge and use almost all the incoming power to keep te notebook running. Heat and noise output Acceptable out of the box, great ofter a bios upgrade. Downloadlink is difficult to find, because the official name of the notebook ‘x202ep’ : http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&s=476&m=X202E&os=&hashedid=n%2fa windows 8 64 bit -> bios -> v203 for x202ep Temperatures are the same after the bios upgrade: 50 idle, 75 load. Only difference is the greatly reduced noise output. Sound: Sound is good, but I prefer to use a headset because the speakers lack bass. High tones sound harsh on high volumes, but it’s loud enough for multimedia purposes. After installing the audio driver from realtek the high tones sound much better, it can be found on the same site as the bios update. Just buy it and replace the harddisk with an ssd Postive: big trackpad nice keyboard sturdy compact and thin good sound for a semi ultrabook HDD is swapable Silent with bios v203 negative: The HDD (why asus, why) RAM is not expandable, but that’s not really neccessary (for me) 100mbit ethernetport Barely charges when in use audio/mic comboport, I prefer seperate ports No dvdburner, but I rarely use it and can be bought seperately (external) I'm dutch, so please don't judge me on my spelling mistakes :D
  25. Hi guys, I recently saw the ncix video about the bench marking rumors of the nvidia shield 2. I was/am very interested in the original nvidia shield but I always thought that there were some things that could be improved. I'm going to list what I think can be improved in this post, please post your improvement ideas in this forum belo (In no particular order) 1) Screen size: I think that the screen size should be bumped up from 5 inches to 5.5. This is because (as linus said in the original shield review) the fact that you have a controller in your hands means that the screen is slightly further away from your eyes, this could help provide a more similar experience to a smartphone screen. 2) Clicky buttons: Now, having never owned a shield before I don't know whether the buttons are clicky or not (maybe someone can tell me?) but if not, I would love to see them replaced with clicky ones for easier usage and more accurate and consistent keystroke registration. 3) Touchpads: This one will be one which divides opinions, and one that I am not sure about myself yet either. I was very interested in the touchpads on the steam box controller as it allowed for s apparently some-what simmilar accuracy to a keyboard and mouse. I haven't tried and so cannot be certain, but if this turns out to be true I would love to see them on the shield so I can play competitive first person shooters whilst in bed (or whatever) To be honest I think that the above are all the improvements I can think of other than than small design tweaks like possibly relocating the headphone port on the bottom etc. So, if they made those changes I would promptly go and buy one. Don't forget to leave your ideal improvements below, Thanks -Billy
