As the title says, I'm looking for an SSD for my computer. It isn't slow or anything, I'm just looking for an upgrade to my system. I currently have a 1tb Blue HDD from WD, and I haven't used half of it yet for any of my games and pictures, and I've owned it for a year and a half. Any recommendations on which SSD to get? My price range is below 250 $ CDN. Thanks If it matters, my specs are i5 4690, with 16GB or RAM, GTX 970, Asus z97-c Mobo

Hi guys, I am living in a rural area at the moment, with a limited broadband connection. My ISP does, however, allow for free data use between 00:00 and 06:00. I was wondering if there is any way to get a browser (preferably chrome) to only download between these hours (I leave my computer on normally at night). Thanks!

Hi everyone! I'm making an online game where time is a pretty important thing, both for back-end systems and for the game mechanics. Timezones are pretty complex, and I do not believe I want to get into programming every single timezone with all their exceptions into the game. So my solution: Would it be a good idea to create a fictional time and date system for my game (it's a sci-fi game, so it's not out of place in such a game) on top of the Greenwich Meantime system? That way, everyone playing the game uses the same timezone, but I have 'masked' the fact that it's just GMT but with different namings. Any suggestions to original solutions to this problem? or any ideas? Thanks!

Hello there, this is my first post after watching a few linus videos but im still confused about a few issues. So i thought of giving it a try before i go to a best buy and pick up a random gpu. 1. My budget is around $200 (for my first buy, ill get more at the end of the month), i am currently living in Laredo, Texas. 2. I'm currently aiming for a medium type pc gaming rig. 3. I only run one monitor at 1024 X 819 4. I'm going to upgrade since i just scored a free copy of "Overwatch" 5. I have spare Harddrives and PCU*s so no need to upgrade them since i can swap them to the needs of a new gpu. Hello Everyone, i am currently trying to assemble my first custom pc. i have no experience what so ever in terms of picking parts etc. however i am trying to do the best research possible. so far i have a few components chosen already, but i am unsure if they will work together and whether or not they are the right choices. so far the specs are: CPU: Intel i7-5820k GPU: GeForce GTX 970 SSD: Samsung Pro 950 m.2 The items below is pretty unclear for right now and i hope you could possibly help me make a right choice here. CPU cooler - none chosen yet. Motherboard - in future i might want to add another Samsung pro 950 m.2 so if its possible to find a motherboard which supports this would be nice. Ram - This all depends on the motherboard but i want either 8 or 16 ram in total. power supply - as not all parts are picked, i have not chosen this yet. bonus suggestion: if you know any silent case which fits these components, please let me know, though it is not much of a priority right now i will mostly use the PC for gaming, however i want to make it "future proof" as much as possible, by that i mean able to play games with 60 fps at decent settings for the next 4-5 years. i will be using a single monitor 24" or 27" full HD, however in the later years i might want to upgrade to 4k, however its not much of a priority for me right now. i will appreciate every single thought of yours, so don't be shy to burn my choices, however the budget is fairly tight after the purchase of the SSD, CPU and GPU, so please bear in mind. Best regards List of parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QJ4gRB

Hello! So, i am having some really weird problems with the PC of my Girlfriend. I build the thing from the ground up, partly with parts i had lying around and some new ones. Let me list all the Parts in the PC to start with: Gainward GTX 960 2GB (From my own PC after i Upgraded to a 970) AMD FX-6300 (Bought new, because i had the MB already) 8GB Kingston ValueRam (4x2GB) 1333mhz (From my own PC after i upgraded to 2 8 GB Sticks.) Asrock 980DE3/US3 (Also from my old PC after an Upgrade.) SanDisk Ultra II 120GB SSD (Bought new because i refuse to build a PC without a System SSD) A Seagate 1TB Drive, not sure what kind, but i don't think it matters here, since it's just for storage 450W Corsair VS Series PSU Antec GX500 Windowed Case I put all of the stuff together, installed windows 7, activated it, upgraded to 10 and did the initial config with all the usual stuff. Worked like a charm for a couple of weeks. Then it straight up refused to start windows. It booted fine, showed the Windows loading screen and then it went Black. Nothing happened and there was nothing on the Screen. Had to reboot and checked the Bios. The Date was set to 2014, which seemed to be a weird date to reset to, since the Board was, if i remember correctly, older than that. Changed the Battery anyway. Reset the bios to defaults, checked the time and rebooted. Seemed to work. Next reboot, same problem. Date was set to 2014 again. Checked the Battery with a voltmeter. Everything fine. The voltage in the bios was fine, too. Now the weird part, since then, it sometimes boots absolutely perfectly, other times it won't boot at all and other times it takes ages to boot. If it boots, sometimes it has the correct time, sometimes it's set to 2182 (It's always this year, though). Bios time is sometimes correct, sometimes set to 2014. It's completely random, but more often then not, there is something preventing it from booting. Takes 3-4 tries before windows loads at all and most of the time, the date will be set to 2182. Sometimes the time will be correct, though. I am all out of ideas. Last thing i can think of is to get a new MB, but I'd like to ask you guys if you can think of something first. I don't want to buy a new MB just to have the same problem again in case it isn't the board. Did a windows reset already (even installed 7 again and upgraded for a second time. All after formatting the Drive completely. So i have to assume it's a Hardware Issue. Thanks for your Time!

So I'm truly not sure if this is a "thing" or if it is a problem with my setup. When I press the power button on my computer, i hear my optical drive turn on, and hear my hard drives begin to spin, swell as my fans. but it takes 22-ish seconds for the American Megatrends logo to show up. It then, within a second, shows up with the windows boot screen. My rig specs can be seen below. thanks - mider EDIT: My HDD LED light IS connected and displays solid until the bios flashes, then it acts normally

So I have a problem with my LAN network; I built myself a new PC that boots and logs in with a key in about 2 sec to my desktop. I really love this about my new pc but now every time that I access the internet through my browser the LAN-connection drops out (still says it's connected) then it says there's a problem (normal icon but with yellow triangle) and then it disconnects and automatically reconnects and from there on it works (although most of the time at about a third of the speed). I should probably mention I have a PowerLAN which is fairly new so I doubt that's the case. How do I get the LAN connection to keep staying on so I can instantly start browsing? Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I've been on these forums for a while, asking about a custom made build but not made by myself. It was from a UK based company that makes them for you. However, I have chosen to cancel my order because I wish to build it myself. I want to use the same parts mostly, but at least I'll know exactly the brand etc that will be part of the build (the company does not guarantee a certain make/brand). The one component I've already purchased is the Seasonic S12G-450 450W 80+ as I know that's a great PSU (don't want to cheap out on it), but everything else is in the following Part Picker link. I'd like to buy everything on there, as I feel it's perfect for my first setup. However, I'm very confused about what RAM and CPU Cooler to get. 8gb RAM is what I'd like to get. I'd like to get a GTX 950 but again, there's loads of them!So many choices! I don't want anything overclocked if that helps. My budget is around £700-750 without peripherals (which I already have), but it's fairly loose so I don't mind spending abit more on a decent RAM/ CPU cooler. Here's the link: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/vtZrK8 It's not a very power hungry build, but I'll be using it for mid level gaming/ video editing, so could you guys perhaps choose suitable components to compliment the build? I prefer a balanced systemover raw power. FINALLY, is it really that hard to build one yourself? I'm fairly good with components but I'm 100% new to building- I feel its abit daunting- but which guides are really good for first timers like myself? Cheers, Tim

I'm planning on buying the AOC G2460FQ 24-Inch monitor, but I can't find anywhere how much input lag this monitor has, and I don't really trust the people in the store, so can anyone tell me?Keep in mind that this is a AOC G2460FQ 24-Inch monitor with an "F" not the AOC G2460PQ 24-Inch with a "P"

I use the smartphone as my watch, but I do realize that turning the phone on and off drains the battery too much, so I wonder if there was any phone that had a permanent time figure on screen, without doing anything at all. Because of this, I appreciate if the smartphone has good battery endurance, otherwise it would be a moot point.

I am wondering what monitor I should get. I am looking for something not to expensive that is 1080p or 1440p. I would like an IPS display and I am looking for a monitor that would have low input lag and response time for games like csgo. I currently have a small DYNEX tv for my build as I do not yet have any other monitors. Also, how good of a response time do you need for playing csgo comfortably with out any issues? All help is appreciated, thanks. My build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gKjF23

Hey guys, I just watched linus' video on the LG oled TV he got sent, and it got me thinking. If amoled has been on phones for so long now, why is it taking so long for it to be a viable option in the large scale? Is it similar to how you can get QHD phones for the price of some QHD desktop monitors?

So due to my problems with my last rig, thread on it is here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/465723-annoying-stuttering-in-games/ I decided to try out Intel and Nvidia instead of AMD/ATI that I've been using for 12 or so years. I'm now wondering what I should know about Intel and Nvidia. Things like what drivers and software are good to have. Is SLI worth it? BIOS options for the Intel CPU, I know absolutely nothing about that. My rig that I bought is: Asus Z97-a/USB3.1 4790K Devil's Canyon Asus GTX 970 Strix 2x8GB Kingston HyperX Beast 2400MHz Corsair RM550x Gold 550W Windows 10 Pro

Hello! ^^ I am studying programming engineering at university and I've got task to write a DOS program/game it should use only DOS commands, no C,pascal, or any other programming language. Only DOS commands It should have 7+ pages of code I do not ask you to write But maybe you know some sites where I can find simple DOS programs/games with "source code"? Or at least can you suggest something to write to fill 7 pages with commands? btw, I'll need to do everything under Windows cmd I can write it by myself, but I feel like it is a waste of time... I'd better continue my c++ projects rather than DOS, that's why I am searching for already written program/game. Hope you understand and thanks in advice

So I've been looking at monitors today, and I'm kinda torn. I want the low refresh time, but I really love having the IPS for the colors. I am going to be playing some CSGO as well as other games, which is why I want the low response time. A lot of monitors are around 21-23 inches, have a 5ms and response time, and IPS. How much of a difference does the IPS make? Is it worth it for games like CSGO to have the 5ms repsonse time and IPS, or should I sacrifice the IPS and go for a lower response time like 4ms and below? Thank you for any recommendations, all help is appreciated. My build:http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3PDPpg

I’m not actually a gamer, but I want to build a solid computer that will last me years and years (at least 5 or 6). I’m not very educated on the subject. I really only play starcraft 2 and will spend most my time doing homework or watching videos. I’m not too sure if I will overclock immediately, but I will one day! I will be buying a 32GB usb stick, a cheap external optical drive, and an HDMI cable on top of this. I have a windows 7 key. Here’s what I have painstakingly been putting together on pcpartpicker: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/W9rpyc Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/W9rpyc/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Micro Center) CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.50 @ Newegg) Motherboard: MSI Z170-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($117.98 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($69.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($79.99 @ Micro Center) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($53.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB Video Card ($319.99 @ Newegg) Case: Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($64.99 @ Newegg) Wireless Network Adapter: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($32.99 @ Amazon) Monitor: Acer G257HU smidpx 60Hz 25.0" Monitor ($267.58 @ Newegg) Total: $1321.98 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-02-14 16:20 EST-0500 My main thoughts are how good the motherboard is and if I could get a better power supply for around the same money. However, this is about as much as I would want to spend.

Hey everyone, I've been having an issue with the Date and Time settings in Windows 10 Pro. Whenever I put my PC to sleep, in hibernation or power down, the date and time seem to get stuck at that moment. On other forums, I've read that lagging date and time could be the result of a dying CMOS battery on my motherboard. I'd like to hear any other options if you guys have any before I start fiddling with the hardware. Oh, and I made sure it was set to synchronize with internet time; it doesn't seem to make a difference whether it's time.windows.com or time.nist.gov. Thanks!!

Hi guys, I'm getting myself some new parts for my computer (AMD FX-8350, MSI 970 Gaming & a Corsair liquid cooler) and I would like to overclock my cpu for the first time, and overclocking is pretty much free excluding the new parts I'm getting so why not? But as a overclocking virgin I pretty much don't know anything about it. I've already looked up some tutorials but as every beginner it's overwhelming & i'm scared to break my processor. So what do I have to know about overclocking before I begin with it? I appreciate every little bit of help

Hey guys, I have currently got an Alienware M17x and am considering upgrading to a new custom PC but I have no idea what I am doing. Below is a link to an amazon wishlist to the parts that I was considering using in the build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/JKev18/saved/zM7LrH It will be primarily used for gaming but would be used for studying/projects for Uni next year. There are still some aspects that I will need to deal with while completing the build and using it: I will need a wi-fi adapter as the pc will be situated quite a distance from the router/modem with no easy way of connecting them together. A disk drive would be a nice addition to the build to allow me to install large games as Australian internet connections are not that great Cooling will be a major issue as where I live, temperatures get up to 35/95 degrees in the summer I currently have all the peripherals that I need besides a monitor for the setup but do have displays for setting up the build I would like to keep the price around the point that I have it or less. Any pointers would be nice on parts to get as well as tips to build it. I would like to keep the budget around $2500 AUD (currently exchanges to $1800 USD). Thanks

Alright, so this is my first review, so let me know if there's anything I should change/add. Preface: I've been using the Time Steel for a little over a month now with my iPhone 6s Plus, which means I can't take advantage of features like responding to a text via voice (yet...), so experience may differ a bit from users with an Android device. Pebble Time Steel Let's start off with the Steel, I've been getting around 7-10 days of use from it before I decide to charge it (and it's usually still around 15%)....honestly, I'm really not sure how long it lasts since it lasts so long that I lose track of it. Honestly, it's in a kind of weird position imo, it's kind of expensive considering it's limited functionality, it doesn't look amazing, and it's not sleek like the Time Round. The only thing it really has going for it is it's water resistance (up to 100 feet) and it's unmatched battery life. So, (and I'm being highly original here) it's a watch first and a smartwatch second. Don't get me wrong, there's something really nice about getting notifications/checking the weather, controlling music playback, and responding to text messages from your wrist (although I haven't personally done the last one)....but at the same time, I'd also probably equally enjoy a more classy looking watch. Unlike other smart watches it doesn't have a touch screen, but rather three buttons on the right -- top/bottom buttons are for moving through the timeline, and the middle button is for selecting/going into another menu, and one button on the left (holding it down will toggle you in and out of quiet time, and pressing it will bring you up one page/directory). I feel like this is in a way superior to a touch screen on such a small device...but I can't say for sure as I haven't used any other smart watches. Lastly there's the screen, there are several brightness (low, medium, high, and blinding) and time out options (3, 5, and 8 seconds). I think it would be nice to have a never timeout option and a never turn on option (not that I would use either of those options). One thing that gets annoying is that their is no dynamic brightness option -- you can enable the ambient sensor (which means the backlight will not turn on if it's very bright -- usually a normal room isn't bright enough to stop it from turning on), and you can enable a motion sensor (which means the backlight will turn on when you move the watch -- assuming of course it's not blocked by the enabled ambient sensor). I do have one annoying complaint about my Time Steel, because of the way the music controller is set up, it's hard to see the time if you're playing music (and leaving the music control app open). I would prefer it if the normal watch face covered the music playback app in the form of a screen saver that wouldn't interfere with playback controls, however that's not the case unfortunately, which means if either have to look closely at the face (kind of awkward if you're walking outside) or back out of the music player. Pros: Unmatched battery life up to 10~ days Water resistant to 100 feet Simple non-touch screen design (?) Scratch resistant screen Cons: Small screen with an annoyingly large bezel non-touch screen design (?) hard to read the time if you're in an app Surprising lack of decent watch faces A pretty lack luster screen (but that's the trade off of an e-paper display) Pebble Time Round Most of what I already said above still applies here. However, with the Round they took a slightly different approach; instead of going with a big bulky design with amazing battery life and water resistance, Pebble decided to forgo both in favor of an ultra slim (and round) design. Which I'm a big fan of, the watch looks like a normal (non smart) watch, and it has a far more elegant look to it; I really like it. Unfortunately, the bezel is still quite large, but I feel like it's also not as obtrusive (at least on the black version, on the white version it's worse imo). While it sucks that it's not water proof (to 100 feet) like the Time Steel, I doubt I'd ever have gone swimming with my Time Steel anyway, so I'd consider that point moot (to me); and the vastly inferior battery life (2~ days) is a trade off I'm willing to make for the significantly better aesthetics, especially since it only takes 15~ minutes to get a days charge (reportedly), so, when I take a shower I'll charge it and not even know the difference. Now that obviously doesn't apply to everyone since some people definitely do wear their Time Steel when they go swimming/shower, so again, it's just a moot point for me. The final differing factor between the Round and the Steel is that the buttons are much closer to your wrist (since the watch is quite a bit slimmer), and therefore more difficult to press -- especially without pulling hairs (ouch). My only real complaint with the Round (other than the pulling hairs part) is that the vibration motor feels a lot weaker (at least from my limited use), which is kind of disappointing as I've gotten used to using my Time Steel as my alarm clock). Pros: Still better battery life than most other smartwatches Simple non-touch screen design (?) extremely slim design almost elegant looking Cons: Still has an annoyingly large bezel (and a slightly smaller screen than the non-Round, although it doesn't really matter imo) non-touch screen design (?) hard to read the time if you're in an app Lack of decent watch faces and app support is quite limited, even compared to the non-Round. A pretty lack luster screen (but that's the trade off of an e-paper display) harder to reach buttons lackluster vibration motor Summary Ultimately, I feel like both of these devices should be more...I'd like to see more granular control over the device, I'd love to have the option to have the watch face act as a screensaver if you haven't touched any buttons in a while (and are doing something like music playback), being able to respond to texts and answer calls (and speak) directly with the watch, and just generally more and better apps. But as it stands, it's still a good device and I do enjoy having worn the Time Steel (and plan on enjoying the Time Round just as much if not more).

As my title says I am a first time pc builder and I'm trying to get the best bang for a buck PC for around 1000$ (preferably under) I already have a mouse, keyboard, and monitor so i don't need any of that. I did some researching and throw this build together (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jBCxJx) I was wondering if this build would work and should i just get a GTX 970 is it worth the hundred dollars more? Thank you in advance for help.
