Guys I've spent troubleshooting a week and still can't play HDR through my laptop. Spent a few days on different HDMI cables before checking my laptop specs and finding out that it has 1.4 hdmi port and not 2.0 as required by spec. My laptop has 2 Thunderbolt3 ports, which was my next attempt, and I was sure it was going to work easy. I bought adapter (Ugreen 70444) which says supports 4k60 and uses VL100 chipset. Using adapter and good cable Windows still doesn't recognize my C3 as an HDR supported display. I tried latest GPU driver from Intel and latest driver from Lenovo, nothing changes. Also the Thunderbolt 3 app doesn't detect anything while adapter+cable are connected(Should it?) I have collection of blurays ripped to my NAS and jus't cant wait to watch the 4K HDR LOTR. HELP! I hope this is somehow fixable and I dont need new computer!

Hi all, I a m planning to build a new PC for gaming/work in a server chassis to put it as far away as possible from my office. For that, I am planning to buy motherboard with Thunderbolt3 support and displayport passthrough capability. I will connect my PC to a Thunderbolt 4 dock with a Corning Thunderbolt 3 optical cable. I haven't really decided what specific mobo or TB4 dock I will use, but I have a general question: can you game normally on a setup like that (PC->Dock) just like you would on a regular gaming PC in front of you or you would get performance deterioration? Lets say I will use something like RTX 4070 Ti and I would pair it with one 2k 144Hz monitor. So will Thunderbolt connection ruin my gaming experience or will it be just fine and I wouldn't notice any lags/stutters/etc.? P.S. Will my PC be able to wake up from sleep mode in this configuration if I tried to wake it up using peripherals connected to the dock? Thanks in advance

Hey guys! I ran into a setup where I got stuck and couldn't get to either make it work or to find the exact reason why it won't work. So please, help me out if you can! :) The setup: LG UltraFine 4K (24MD4KL-B) display with Thunderbolt 3 + USB-C hub in one of the USB-C ports MacBook Pro (2018) with Thunderbolt 3 connected to the TB3 input with TB3 cable Xiaomi MiBook Air 13.3" (2016) with USB-C 3.1 gen 1 connected to the TB3 input with either TB3 or USB-C cable, Windows 10 The good: The display works like a charm with the MacBook Pro, normal USB devices attached through the USB-C hub are recognized and working, MacBook is charged ---> all with a single TB3 cable The display is getting video/audio signals from the MiBook ---> with TB3 or USB-C 3.1 cable The bad: The display is not charging the MiBook, however both supports PD and the MiBook only needs 45W while the display can charge with up to 85W. I tried with TB3 cable and USB-C 3.1 gen 1 cable with PD support and none of them worked. Yes, the MiBook only has a USB-C 3.1 gen 1 port, but that's where it gets power from the original power brick and it works just fine. Also the USB-C hub and the connected devices are not showing up on the MiBook with Windows 10. The weird: Previously I had a Philips 258B6QUEB display which has USB-C 3.1 gen 1 input and also support PD (up to 60W) and it was working with both the MiBook and the MacBook without an issue (charging as well) and without any additional drivers. The question: So what am I missing? Why is the LG UltraFine not charging my MiBook? As far as I know, TB3 is backward compatible with older USB-C standards and power delivery should work. And although it's not the most important thing to get the USB-C hub working with the MiBook it'd be a nice to have. Any help would be appreciated! Have a good one, Pistabaaa^

Alright, This one is for all my Audio nerds out there. I have run into an issue I cannot figure out. I have been obsessing over this for the last 30+ days. I don't know If I am missing something right in front of me, or if I just truly bought something incompateble with my system. I have purchased an Apollo Twin X Thunderbolt to be used on an AMD Ryzen bassed processing system. Here is the system I am running: ASUS ROG STRIX B550-A Gaming motherboard Ryzen 9 5900X Processor Asus ThunderboltEX 4 Thunderbolt Expansion Card Corsair Vengance 32GB DDR4 3200 Nvidia 3090 Ti FE GPU ASUS ROG STRIX 1000W PSU Windows 10 Now IN THEORY, these parts should work together in harmony. I belive that the ThunderboltEX4 card is functioning properly because I can see the Apollo attached to Port one in the Thunderbolt(TM) Software. But I do not see any sign of the Apollo Hardware in the device manager other than the UAD-2 Drivers. Universal Audio Thunderbolt WDM also exists in Device Manager, but location is unknown. UA Control and Metter cannot detect the hardware either. I am not sure if the thunderbolt card is not bridging correctly in some way, but i am not even getting the "thunderbolt functionallity limited" Error anymore, just nothing. I attempted to find any hidden MOBO settings, but my BIOS does not have very many options reguarding Thunderbolt, But I was able to turn it on. If any of you have any experice with this, or have been in a similar situation, I would appreciate the help. I have read the manuals for my MOBO, TB Card, and this Apollo Twin X TB and I cannot figure it out. Here is what I have tried so far: -The first issue I saw was my NVM was out of date for the Thunderbolt Card, There was an update and thunderbolt software provided by ASUS, but I recieve this message when I run the Shell.efi in BIOS -I then attempted to roll back all TB compatable BIOS, and still no luck. -Cleared CMOS -Tried multiple different name brand cables -Spent hours digging through device manager to make sure my card is working properly, from what I can tell they are. -Rebuilt system and reinstalled card 3 times -Reinstalled all assorted Drivers a plethera of times The Apollo shows up in TBControl, but I cannot Approve it for a reason that I have spent hours not anywhere close to finding. I am not sure of an easier way to check if the TB Card is functioning properly other than device manager. Any knowledge you may share can to help put an end to my suffering is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Willy

My work laptop (Thinkpad P1 Gen 4) just upgraded from Windows 10 to 11. I have a TB3 to dual DP (Sabrent TH-3DP2) I've been using to drive 2 of my monitors which is plug and play on everything so far(Windows 10, and 11, linux, and mac os) except for after the upgrade. While troubleshooting I'm comparing: - Lenovo Thinkpad P1 Gen 4 (upgraded from Windows 10 to 11, adapter worked immediately prior to upgrade, but not after) - Azus Zenbook Pro 15 (purchased with Windows 11, and adapter works plug-n-play as it should) What I know so far: Thinkpad: It is showing up in the Thunderbolt Control Center on Windows 11 Zenbook: Thunderbolt Control Center doesn't exist Zenbook: A new "Thunderbolt 3 Device Router" shows up under USB controllers in the device manager when the adapter is plugged in Thinkpad: I can't find any changes in device manager on the upgraded laptop Thinkpad: has 2 Thunderbolt Controller devices under System devices on the device manager Zenbook: Has nothing indicating Thunderbolt until the adapter is plugged in, but it does have USB4 Host Router and USB4 Root Device Router under USB controllers. What I've tried: Installing the latest drivers from Lenovo for Windows 11 Uninstall the Thunderbolt Controller devices and remove the drivers(they reinstall automatically) Uninstalled the Thunderbolt Control Center using DISM in powershell I've had zero luck getting any new results. Does anyone have any knowledge in this area? My best guess would be to get the USB4 controller devices installed somehow, but I can't seem to find instructions on this and the thunderbolt controllers just reinstall themselves.

Hi everyone and thanks in advance to anyone that can help! I'd like to ask if anyone has experience with what i'm planning to do. I'm planning to upgrade my current UNRAID server that also host my virtualized desktop. My intention was to take a Z490 VISION G from Gigabyte and pair it with a I9-10900K. The idea behind the Vision G was because has compatibility with Gigabyte Titan-Ridge Thunderbolt 3 add-in card. (i want to connect the virtualized gaming pc to my livingroom TV with small thunderbolt3 dock) My problem is that i have zero experience with this whole Thunderbolt 3 add-in card world and I'm not sure that i'll be able to passthrough it to my vm without any problem, especially because it requires that strange TH connector. So my question is: is there anyone with experience in this? Any suggestion? Thanks! P.S. Sorry for any mistakes, I'm not a native English speaker.

Budget (including currency): 30000 EUR Country: ROMANIA (EU market) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Office Workstation Other details: Hi guys! I'm planning on redoing my entire office, we're talking new PCs, monitors and pheripherials for 7 desks in a medical clinic (so no high spec gaming components needed). Having limited space and planning on a minimalistic setup I remembered Linus's personal rig that is tucked away in his server room. I watched the videos, the 2015 upgrade and the latest refresh but I still can't figure out everything I need to make this work. The distance between the server and the furthest office is around 30-40m (~115ft) (probably, I haven't decided on the final location yet) Question is: What are the actual components I need to get this to work? And is it worth the hustle? Looking forward to read your responses!

I have a Dell XPS 9500 and I started having an interesting issue. I use the laptop docked with a WD19TB thunderbolt dock. This morning the computer kept on randomly shutting off. It only seemed to do it when it was connected to the dock, and it makes using the dock rather hard. I looked up the issue and it looks like some people with the same dock and 9750s had similar issues and they suggested changing the thunderbolt security level in the bios to no security. I tried that and it seems to have worked, but I was wondering if anyone has either had that happen to them, or if they know what could be causing the issue. Thank you.

Hey! I have an LG UltraFine 4K (24MD4KL-B) display that has TB3 ports with PD it works all good with my MacBook (TB3). But it won't charge my Windows laptop with USB-C (3.1 gen 1 with PD) even though video / audio works fine. Tried with both TB and USB-C cables, charging never works, but it worked with USB-C PD display and the same laptop before. What am I missing? Thanks!

Hello, I don’t know why MSI doesn’t have Thunderbolt ports on the Z690 Unify-X, HOWEVER, they do give a TBT3 header (14-1) on the motherboard. The only Thunderbolt card I found with that sort of a header configuration is the ThunderboltEX4 by Asus. Here are my questions: - will the Asus ThunderboltEX4 work on the MSI motherboard? (Yes, the motherboard has the same 14-1 pin-out which Asus uses) - Has anyone used the ThunderboltEX4 on a non Asus motherboard? - provided it works: the ThunderboltEX4 is a Thunderbolt4 card, and the header is TBT3 (thunderbolt3) so I am assuming it will only give me Thunderbolt 3 correct? Thank you

I am having issues with my Thunderbolt 3 port on my Razer Blade 15 Base 2020 (RZ09-0328). I am trying to use the Thunderbolt 3 port to power a 240 Hz display with a USB-C to DP 1.4 cable (specifically this one). However, I don't seem to be getting a signal to my monitor. I understand that the cable requires DP Alt Mode, however I thought that a requirement of a port being labelled Thunderbolt 3 is that it must support DisplayPort devices (at least according to the FAQ on the Thunderbolt website). Is there something I am missing here? Or any workarounds for my issue? I am able to connect to my display using the HDMI output on the computer, but it only supports 144 Hz signal. I'd like to take full advantage of my monitor if possible! Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

will a TB3 dock even use the built in 2080 in my laptop? or should I try another splitter, the issue i'm having is that the monitors go black and I have to fight with the adaptor to get them back. it's a well documented issue in the 1 and 2 star reviews on amazon with htis unit. but I only looked at the overall star rating, and looked at a few of the good reviews.

I was dumb enough to fall for this, I feel scammed. Cant find ANY use for a USB-C with no thunderbolt. Its 3.1 Gen 2. Cool speeds but what for? A fast usb hub? Who cares? What can I use this for? Google only tells me about the difference between T3 and USB-C which I now know.

Setup: - GX501VIK on Windows 10 with a Dell DA300 Thunderbolt3 dock connected over display port to my S2716DG. Theory: Windows is being dumb? I really have no idea at this point. I'd really like to get all that FPS G-Sync goodness I payed for. I got it second hand so there's no way I can even return it. So far I have: Disabled power saving mode Installed Dell's drivers Factory reset it from the menu Unplugged and re-pugged the cables in every way I could think Having just DP plugged in Having DP and HDMI plugged in Flipped the display port cable around Rebooting it and my computer in every order I could think of Had it be the only display connected (Besides the laptop display) Clues so far: Windows display manager shows the monitor in the arrangement window but greyed out and much smaller than the primary display. When it is selected and I go to "Multiple Displays" it shows as "Disconnect this display". Changing this to "Extend" asks if I want to keep the changes (Without the monitor turning on). On accepting the changes, "Scale and layout" now shows red text that says "The display setting could not be saved". All the settings are greyed out. In "Advanced display settings" it simply says that Display 2 isn't active. When HDMI and DP are plugged in and I switch to DP, info about the display shows up here for a second with the disconnection windows sound, then when it disappears the windows connection sound plays. I'm at my wits end, thanks for any help you can provide!

I just put together a post about adding a Thunderbolt PCIe card to a DIY NAS server for ultra fast point to point connectivity. I'm only getting around 20 Gbps now, but if anyone has any suggestions on how I might be able to get closer to the 40Gbps that TB is rated for (theoretical). Technically it's not a NAS itself, but it's also not a DAS because it's not using native Thunderbolt. It's using Ethernet over Thunderbolt, so I guess it is a NAS but in a bridge / token ring style network layout. I appreciate any feedback or suggestions! Thanks!

Everyone knows that macs have thunderbolt ports. My mac does too. I have a thunderbolt dock. It has two DisplayPort outputs. Here's the thing. I am the curious type, and I'm wondering, has anyone connected a mac to a display using USB-C alt mode? Any youtube videos or blog posts? It's easy to mistake Thunderbolt 3 DisplayPort and USB-C alt mode DisplayPort. I'll repeat myself: I already have thunderbolt. It works fine.

No budget, prospective build Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CAD workflows, limited gaming, VR design software Other details The parameters for this build as wide, As I don't see any current components that would allow this type type of setup: excluding interior components, although I would be interested in potentially connecting ssd storage as a series of portable drives connected by Thunderbolt3 in a case, what would be the process of researching a build like this? even more if there are manufactures that use thunderbolt 3 as the video output of a dedicated gpu. What would be most impressive if there are case-motherboard connections where all io on all sides excluding power supply are usbc. With the type of work I do, the only port I would ever need is usbc, though with the potenital of ethernet, though I would rather run wifi 6 internally even if that hurt latency and bandwith. The question all of this revolves around the possibility of motherboards that have only usbc and thunderbolt IO, which I haven't been able to discover yet. Thanks.

Hey Guys, I have question to ask. I am a Mac user (sorry) with a MBP 16". My ports support Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 Gen 2 (or as its now known 3.2 Gen2x1 ). I love Thunderbolt because of the upload speeds & the support it has for my Monitor. However, thunderbolt storage devices are expensive so that leads me onto my question. Currently, Thunderbolt 3 supports 40Gbps upload and download through the same exact port whereby the USB 3.2 2x1 supports a maximum of 10Gbps. So, why can/can't USB 3.2 simply be updated by software to USB 4.0. Given that the port already has the 40Gbps bandwidth via Thunderbolt, what's stopping them from to take advantage of the psychical capacity the port already has? Thanks in advance!

Hello guys, I have a Work-From-Home (WFH) set-up consisting of 2 external monitors connected to a Thunderbolt USB-C hub via HDMI, they used to work great. During the holidays I turned my work computer off never to be light up again until today. But I did test my wife new computer, given that the whole reason of buying her a new PC was for her to be able to use this set-up when I get back to Work-on-site (WOS). We tested it and I believe it worked just fine, allthough I don't remember doing any exhaustive testing I basically just checked if connecting it would turn on charging (sinec we both have Lenovos 65W chargers) and it had a video feed on both monitors. Her PC is Thunderbolt 4 Ready btw, while mine is only Thunderbolt 3. When I turn on my work computer, turns out that the TWO monitors connected to the Thunderbolt hub are recognized as one. They both show the exact same video feed and when I right click the desktop and select "Display Settings" only one monitor is recognized. See image Any ideas on what to do to solve this? Thanks a lot in advance.
